I had been craving a good BBQ chicken or a brisket since long long time and having watched a mouth watering show on Netflix about food travel I knew I had to get it. Since my wife does not care much for BBQ I was by maself on this one. What a stroke of luck, I happened to come across this place tucked inside a shopping complex near Decatur. Since this complex is newly built there is plenty of parking option and quiet a few food choices too. Well...coming back to the food experience..overall it wasnt the best I should say. Since I had been wanting a brisket since long, I got it. I had it on the buns and with a side of Mac and Cheese. Its a little sad that the brisket does not come with a side of anything. For me the quantity to the price ratio was not balanced. for $11.5 bucks something I got a tiny looking brisket bun and a side of MC. Glad I wasnt that hungry and I was sufficiently full with that. I've been driving past here for weeks and couldn't wait for the grand opening. I ordered brisket with no bun/bread, baked beans and corn pudding. I read another review that said the portions were small, but I cannot agree. They were just extra hungry. I couldn't finish mine. I liked the brisket, but it was fatty and I didn't eat a lot of it. The baked beans were just ok, not great, but not terrible. There were several selections of bbq sauce. I opted for the warm original. They called out my order when it was ready and when I went to confirm that my name was called, but the server had moved along to another patron and was gladly helping him and going thru his order with him to make sure he was happy. We've been using this as a convenient curbside pickup option (you can order through their app). We really like the brisket and the more cowbell sandwich. The wait for pickup was really long over the holiday weekend, and we had an issue with our order. However, they took the time to fix it which I really appreciated. We love BBQ and have been to most of the BBQ restaurants in the Atl area. We have our favorite spots which are waaaay out numbered by spots we will never go back to, so I wasn't holding out hope for this City BBQ. I was very surprised at how good the food is. I got the 2 meat (turkey and brisket) with fries and mac & cheese. The mac & cheese was hearty, creamy, and filling; clearly not homemade but very good. The turkey and brisket were both delicious with huge portion sizes. Both meats were fall apart tender. There were 6 sauces to choose from but the meat was good without. Side note: at the condiment area they have the best pickle chip......I am a pickle freak.......my new goal in life is to figure out how to get the entire stainless steel tub of pickles in a container to take home. I had been hearing about this place and finally found myself in the area and hungry so I tried it out. The food is decent. I had the pulled chicken and it was ok. The portions are plentiful, especially for the price. As for the sides I had the collards (they were decent), the potato salad (it was good), the French fries (they were fantastic) and the banana pudding (it was delicious)! Overall, it was a decent dining experience but I don't think all of the hype surrounding the place is warranted. In case you think Decatur doesn't need another barbecue restaurant, this shows one more is welcome to our food scene. The staff are welcoming and more than happy to point out the flavors in each of their eight sauces- from the 'sweet city' to the spicy 'Piedmont pride' (nicely hot but overly harsh). We tried their turkey and brisket and although the brisket had a nice salty bark, the smoked turkey was actually our favorite. The sides we tried were really quite flavorful- the Mac and cheese had great flavor and the corn pudding was moist without being soggy. No room for dessert this time- have to come back for it and for what we were told are the award winning ribs. Maybe takeout next time the weather isn't great. read more

I have been waiting weeks to try the food here and may I say, it did not disappoint .The sides are all good but I must say the potato salad is the best I've had at any restaurant. Horrible on Mother's Day. We've been here a few times and I think the BBQ is decent. We ordered take out for Mother's Day and were told it would be an hour wait which was no problem. We showed up and the entire take out operation was completely unorganized with orders coming out and nobody there, and everyone was being told it would be an additional hour from the time we were told to pick orders up. There was some system of writing people's names on paper and of course we gave them the name for our order and the guy never wrote it down so we had to ask for a refund. Needless to say it was a huge waste of time and caused us to have to find fast food for Mother's Day. Definitely not going back. read more

We tried city Barbecue and were very impressed. (We are bbq snobs) Then when we were getting quotes for our wedding, I decided to try them. They were amazing from start to finish and Kimberly was attentive, detailed and made us feel like family! I think I put a request in on the website and she called me within 30 minutes and had a quote to me very quickly. Everyone raved about the food at our wedding and the lemonade stand! TERRIBLE service tonight. Put in an order on the app. Went for curbside pickup 30 minutes later and had to wait an additional 10 minutes after arriving. 40 minutes total. Then got home and 3 of the sides were missing. So had to drive back up to get those. Meanwhile all the sandwiches got cold. And the baked beans were cold initially as if they weren't even heated when served. I can get cold beans from the can at Kroger. And now I have a stomach ache from the food. Mmmmmm very good. I Had the pulled chicken sandwich with the garlic Texas toast they make in house. The combination of these two are so awesome to top it all off our use the signature barbecue sauce. I paid over 18 dollars for 3 average sized ribs, coleslaw and brisket that was greasy, literally 70% fat and inedible. I was really hungry.! Unfortunately I had takeout so couldn't return it, so disgusting to pay that high a price for sub par food, the manager needs to know what is being served, those that cut the brisket should pay attention, mind you I do enjoy the marbled fat in brisket but not in big chunks, was very disappointed...won't go back read more

Stumbled across this little gem today and am pleasantly surprised. The more cowbell sammich was a nice blend of flavors with fried onions, peppers, cheese, n brisket on BBQ bread. The BBQ sauces were all tasty (even the ginger). The gumbo was a bit thick for my taste, but flavorful nonetheless. The corn pudding was a nice touch as well. I called City Barbecue to get a party pack for an early (11:20 am) Saturday pickup for a noon football party. I arrived about 5 minutes early and my order was waiting for me. It was nicely heated, packed beautifully and included plates, utensils, napkins, serving tools and a couple of sauces that I had requested. I selected pulled pork and brisket with an add-on of a slab of ribs. My sides were sweet potato casserole and green beans. Every item was delicious. The ribs were tender. The pork made wonderful sandwiches. The brisket went quickly, so I know how much our group enjoyed it. We enjoyed the sides and the whole meal was a big hit. Once again, the people at City Barbecue were terrific and bent over backwards to insure that I had everything that I needed. That was great service! Ribs are wonderful - tender enough to fall off the bone and melt in your mouth, never overcooked or dry. Baked beans - yummiest baked bean sauce I've ever had. I'm sure it has a calorie or two in it, but I don't care. Slaw - original, unusual in a good way. More flavorful than standard slaw. Potato salad - creamier than I care for, but I suppose that's a matter of preference. (I'm German, so I expect potato salad to consist mostly of huge chunks of potatoes.) This used to be my favorite BBQ restaurant every Tuesday when they first opened a few months ago. The restaurant was always full with customers wanting a taste of their great grilled ribs. Now the ribs tastes awful. The ribs are preboiled and finished in an oven. Grease drips off the BBQ letting you know they were baked in the oven. The potato salad used to be delicious, now it's made with a lot of mayonnaise in the fuel. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant. The BBQ they make here is just average. Their brisket has a good smoke taste. It was not dry or too moist. It's worth ordering. I also had the ribs an end piece as well as two rib bones. Could've used more smoke flavor and while it didn't fall off the bone it was not over cooked. But very meaty. Their baked beans was not sugary which is good, but could've used some smoke flavor. Their creamy coleslaw was excellent and worth ordering. Finally their mac & cheese was creamy and bland could've used some smoke flavor or maybe some melted cheddar cheese chunks for flavor. However, I had a meal delivered recently which fell short of what I've gotten from City BBQ in the past....since I'd never had a bad meal from them before!. When I called and spoke with the Mgr. Jackson, he immediately tried to rectify the situation and extended excellent customer service. When I expressed my displeasure of the meal that was received, Jackson was very accommodating to both my mother and I, and replaced our meal, going above and beyond in order to satisfy the customer. Great service 95% of the time. The girls there are so sweet and everyone moves fast to get people in and out. The lines are usually crazy and sometimes they run out of ribs, it's really that good. I use the app since I'm so close and enjoy going so I get to skip the lines and collect points towards future orders. The ribs are great, sandwiches are excellent and their banana pudding is probably the best banana pudding I've ever had.... like in life. I haven't even tried any other dessert cause that's the winner/ I remember eating one every day for like a week and had to stop cause my scale looked crazy. Oh and their hush puppies? Absolutely delicious. Most people make there's hard, these are so soft and just everything. I couldn't give it a full 5 stars because I'm honestly not the biggest fan of the sides; I don't care for the Mac and cheese, potato salad, beans or greens...idk just nothing that stood out, but definitely edible and fries always work.
