I've been by here a few times now and have really liked everything thing I've tried including the sides. The drive thru is really convenient. The brisket and burnt ends are my favorites, but on last visit the lady told me they didn't have burnt ends anymore, hopefully they come back. I've never been to a bbq place looking for a salad, but I've had the brisket and the pulled pork salad here and they were really good, the ones I have had were made with super fresh and bright colored vegetables, no wilted or old brown produce here. Although kitchen was a bit overwhelmed (after all it was peak dinner hour on Saturday night and not surprising), the food was worth the wait. The portions are extremely generous and the meat is perfectly smoked and juicy. Try the banana pudding, it's made fresh every day and it's delicious! And the staff! On a not so quick Target run, I got dinner from here for my family, as it was in the same location. It didn't seem like much, but some BBQ sounded yummy! It was! It's not amazing but it's good! I've had my fair share of brisket and Nashville sandwiches, and it didn't compare but for drive through food, it was definitely good. Their bbq sauce is pretty tasty, my partner didn't really like his brisket, as he said it felt a bit too fatty. But for me, that was what made it good lol. First time here. I was so hungry that I was HANGRY. Downloaded the app to get $5 off $30. Totally worth it. We are HUGE Brisket eaters. Was disappointed that brisket was $3 more in the 2 meat plate. Ordered sliced brisket and sausage, 2 sides, mac n cheese, green beans. The meal itself was good, unfortunately the brisket didn't have that smoked flavor we were hoping for, we only got 2 thin slices and it was cool in temperature. The sauces were good but didn't have that made fresh from scratch taste. The sausage, green beans, mac n cheese were very good. The place had a real BBQ feel. Wood and industrial style is one of my favorites, plenty of paper towels on the tables. The service was quick and friendly. Everyone was impressed by the quality and portion sizes. The corn pudding situation was fyya (fire). So was the cobbler. Look at the pictures. It's beautiful. Meat paradise. Only critique is that they seem understaffed which is pretty normal around Greensboro. If you order ahead it shouldn't be an issue. This just opened up a few months ago in Greensboro and this spot has exploded. And honestly it's easy to see why. We had to see what all the fuss was about and we decided to roll on out there. As soon as you walk in the delicious smell hits your right in the face and your stomach immediately starts yelling "Feed me"! We got a sampler platter for 2. The ribs were excellent. The pulled chicken was tender. The brisket was sort of dry but glad we tried it. We choose the spicy sauce and the down east vinegar pepper sauce and both were about what you'd expect. Sides were good but nothing that really knocked my socks off. I would go back. read more

It tasted like it was just baked with no seasoning and then after cooking they threw on the BBQ sauce just before serving. Needed hot sauce which brought it from basement 1 star to 2 stars. The sauce was really flavorless. So the chicken was a 2 of 5 stars. The collard greens were good. A 4 star. Give it 5 if it had fat back in it. The Cole slaw was swimming in cream. Needed pepper. Like a lot of it. None on any table. Cost was $21.63 with coke. Too much for this food. I prefer the Country BBQ across the street. They are doing a great job and moving a tremendous number of people through the inside line, the drive through and the curbside pick up. As a former restaurant operator I was truly impressed at how well this new restaurant is operating. Kudos to the team. They have also done a great job with the interior renovation. It is a nicely done space and very comfortable, even in Covid times. I have a mixed impression of the food. I had the brisket, sausage, corn pudding, vinegar slaw, a sample of all the sauces, Texas toast and tea. The brisket had an excellent texture and was moist, not an easy feat. I found it to be too salty and lacking a discernible smoke taste. The sausage was excellent. A nice casing, good snap, nice smoke, and excellent seasoning. This sausage is mild but well flavored, a do over for me. The vinegar slaw was not to my taste. It was much stronger than I like and I believe would benefit from a hint of sweetness. The corn pudding was outstanding. A strong corn flavor and a bit of crunch from an edge or crust...I really liked this. The bread did not add a whole lot...maybe a hint of garlic would help as it did not have much flavor. I tried all the sauces and really enjoyed the hot sauce. It did have some heat but really not a great deal. It was nicely balanced and worked well on both meats. I found the sweet sauce too sweet and seemed to have a hint of cherry. The other sauces were fine and I likely will get the hot (brush fire) and original on my next visit. All in all, I will definitely go back and will be supporting this new restaurant. read more

As a foodie I am always eyeing when a new place is being built. As soon as I found out this was going to be a barbecue joint I was sold! Grand Opening was yesterday but we decided to pick up for lunch today and it was delicious! The sandwiches I thought had a lot of meat on them and these were the "lunch portion" sandwiches. Also, Tuesdays are Rib bone day they are 1.50/bone instead of 2.50/bone so we had to pick some up to try! The rib mean fell off the bones! My review of City BBQ Ribs- perfectly cooked, very tender and excellent smoke ring on the meat Brisket- great flavor, just a tad bit dry, but not enough to take away from the great flavor. Pulled pork- great flavor, tender, none of the grisly pieces that make it in to other places. Chicken- great smoked chicken flavor, cooked perfectly so it wasn't dry at all. Brisket taco- Great fusion of flavors, right amount of spice. Corn bread- perfectly cooked outside with a slight crunch. Inside was also perfectly moist. Wasn't sweet but the flavor was amazing. Corn pudding- probably the best corn pudding I have ever had. Baked Beans- very good flavor. Reminds me of a good cookout style bake beans. Sauce- I used the Swine Wine sauce. It is a vinegar based eastern NC style sauce (which is in my opinion the best) Chocolate Cake (not pictured)- moist fudge style chocolate cake, with chocolate icing and chocolate chips covering the top. Hands down one of the best chocolate cakes. Like 50 said, like a fat kid loves cake! The staff is amazing, polite, and helpful. I definitely recommend to anyone and I will be back very soon. This time 1) my order took too long, 2) my beloved Nashville hot chicken sandwich had almost ZERO crunchy crust, 3) the chicken had obviously sat around for a while because it was only luke warm and the chicken was HARD (not tender and juicy like I expected). SO disappointing. The baked beans had plenty of brisket in them but they are FAR too sweet with no other flavor than sugar, so I threw them away after one bite. The shredded pork (I took it home to heat up later) was SUPER GREASY! That eastern style vinegar based BBQ sauce doesn't stand a chance against that grease! The chicken sandwich was the biggest disappointment since I was so impressed with it on previous visits. :0( I definitely won't be back for the barbecue or the baked beans, but I may give them another chance to make the chicken sandwich right. If you get the chicken sandwich, order the slaw on the side so that the sandwich doesn't get soggy and stale on the line as they're filling other larger orders before yours. read more

I have given this place two opportunities. Nothing special ordered for lunch in drive through, Chicken and Turkey platter with a couple sides. First they told us to pull up and we waited 15 min. My wife finally went in and they apologized as they forgot about us. How does that happen?? Also, One side (corn pudding) was wrong gave us double turnip greens. This place went down hill fast. Brisket lacked a smoked flavor, a pink ring around the meat and appeared only to be seasoned and rubbed with excessive amounts of salt. Pulled pork lack any smoke flavor to it as well. Hush puppies lacked flavor. Cole slaw had too much vinegar in it. It's obvious they didn't cook their meat properly. They cooked it at a higher temperature to get it done. In doing so the meat isn't able to break down and become tender, the smoke flavor isn't absorbed and the pink ring isn't given time to develop. I've smoked three briskets in my life. Hands down they were all better than this crap City BBQ is serving. This place should be called Shitty Barbecue not City Barbecue. read more

Now, I wasn't going to write a review b/c I genuinely like the sides and the ribs but after the situation City BBQ gave us the best meal the first time coming, but today after the third time it seems to be a problem to get uncut Ribs. The reason I want uncut ribs is b/c you can enjoy them with out them being dried out or missing meat. The ribs I got replacing the last ones where worst than the first dried-up ribs they messed up on. It was a bad after taste as if what ever it was cooked around or with was dirty and left a stale after taste that lingered to the point of me gagging till I had to brush my tongue and rinsed my mouth out. Very Disappointed The second problem is customer service through the window is always horrible. Once you get to the window, u receive a whole different negative vibe. And don't make me go into the woman that had a issue with my uncut Ribs, while wearing a see through mask that had bad condensation build up in a fast food restaurant. But lastly, after getting manager Rodney to give me a lovely meal, we opened the Mac n cheese for it to be completely dried out crunchy and hard, was a waste of food and honestly the question is who is in the kitchen that allowed that to go out as quality. TBH that was my last straw with them I'll find somewhere else to get nice bbq at! The employees cooking the food and serving through drive-thru do not care about the customers. Only the mangers do it seems. There is no excuse for the bad service. There is no excuse not to give customer what the want, especially if it is really simple. The portions for a 25.00 plate were woefully lacking...I wish we had taken a picture! So glad we didn't order a more expensive meal! Like many of the other reviews on Yelp, the prices are very high compared to portion size and with the proteins being a la carte. A pick-two of brisket and ribs, along with sides of mac and brisket baked beans ran me over $24! I've never eaten sawdust, but I feel like this meal would've been the closest to it. I would bet my salary that this food had been slowly dying a painful death under a heat lamp all day-- it wouldn't surprise me if it was over a day old. The mac was above average, definitely the highlight. Brisket baked beans had good flavor, slightly too much of a cheap, generic bbq sauce flavor though. Was very excited to try City BBQ. We had lunch at approximately 12:30. First, the good: the service and wait staff were courteous and attentive. The restaurant appeared to be extremely clean. The food. Admittedly, I am a BBQ snob. I've eaten BBQ all over the southeast. I cater BBQ for events. I know a little about good BBQ. The meal that my wife and I were served was just plain sad. My wife had a dark meat chicken quarter. Somehow, the "pit-master" cooked this chicken quarter until it was dry as a bone. I wasn't aware that you could cook all of the fat out of a thigh! The leg was almost dusty. On a high note - my wife said her salad was fresh and her fried okra was very tasty. I ordered a two meat tray - brisket and 3 ribs. The meat was probably better when it was cooked - which had to be the day before. Both my ribs and my brisket were dry. In all my days, I have never left brisket on a plate - but I left about 1/3 of the brisket. Never have I had such dry meat. The ribs were a little better, but I expect they were yesterday's ribs. There was also every little meat on the ribs...,I guess that was a blessing. My meal came with 2 sides. I ordered corn pudding (more on this later) and baked beans. I was told that I'd get a slice of Texas toast with my meal. I asked if they had cornbread - they did. I was informed that cornbread was $2.99. So, I dropped beans from the order and I ordered cornbread - AS A SIDE DISH. Unbelievable. I am from the south. Corn pudding is a delicacy in our parts. I don't know what classified the "corn pudding" I received, but it was - by far - the worst I've ever tasted. It seems they use leftover cornbread to make the pudding. There was zero sweetness to this dish...I am still mystified that it could be called "pudding". To be quite honest, this dish no taste at all. It was just mush. I couldn't eat it. The tea was a day old and was beginning to sour - I am also a sweet tea snob. I choked it down and refilled with Pepsi... And so...$43 and change later, I was extremely dissatisfied. However, I believe in the old adage that begins "Fool me once, shame on you...". I will never darken these - or any doors on other City BBQ chain restaurants. If you want good BBQ, drive a little further to Lexington, NC and eat at Lexington BBQ, or at the BBQ Center. These folks understand how important BBQ is to southern cuisine. read more

We had a wonderful experience at City Barbeque! It was my first time eating at this establishment. The food was delicious. I had pulled pork, green beans, baked beans and banana pudding. One of the employees, Audrey, was phenomenal. She was so personable, kind and nurturing. She made the banana pudding herself and it was the best I have ever tasted! Audrey was so friendly to everyone. She is obviously the lifeblood of this establishment. We came for the food but left fortified body, mind and soul.
