We had our first City BBQ experience recently, while pregaming for an Indy Eleven match. It's safe to say we'll be going back at some point soon. I got the city sampler, which was an overwhelming amount of food. Turkey, brisket, pulled pork, sausage, plus sides. Everything was cooked well. The turkey was a little dry, but most smoked turkey is, right? Pork and brisket were excellent. Sausage was tasty. Both the baked beans and the mac and cheese stood out as sides. The sauces were a little weak - the Sweet City actually tastes a little bit like General Tso's sauce (no joke), and the mustard-based sauce was a little too smooth for my tastes. The Brush City was by far the best of the sauces. Very tasty if you like bbq. Is it as good as what you'd get in Memphis or Kansas City or Austin? Of course not. But it's still very good. PS - It's sad that the owners felt like they had to put a sign up on the wall explaining why it's okay that the meat is pink, but that's Indy for you. read more

The food here is very good and the guys in my lunch group like this place. I got the quarter chicken and a couple of side salads. The service was good but something here is missing. Maybe it's just me but everything was a little too polished and clean. It just doesn't seem to fit my ideal of a Barbecue joint. City BBQ I have a thing for roasted/smoked/BBQ'd chicken. Most of the time when I order it in various restaurants, instead of the above I am served Sahara chicken, sometimes Kalahari chicken, and lately it's been Atacama Desert Chicken. There's seems to be a dearth of moist chicken served in Indianapolis except at City BBQ, the location near IUPUI. I haven't been to the other locations so I can't really talk about those. I did ask a young man working there, I believe a manager, if the chicken was moist. He was perplexed at the question. And I warned him, menaced more like it, that I would be returning it if my chicken was going to be like the other dessert- like chickens I have encountered in other eateries. To my surprise, and I was startled to tell the truth (my partner has even forbidden me to order chicken out btw) this was the most moist, smoked, BBQ'd chicken I have ever encountered in Indianapolis! After polishing it off with gusto, I crossed paths with the young manager as he was coming over to ask me how their chicken compared, we met halfway. I almost embraced him. He was so touched he wanted to treat me to bread pudding, which I would normally accept but am following the Keto diet presently so that was not an option. But thank you, thank you for your chicken being moist. I enjoyed the sides of cole slaw, greens with bacon, the presentation, and over all the smoky smell in the place. Have been back several times. So we've only ordered to go meals from here. The pulled pork is great and so are the BBQ sauces. It smells amazing. Nice and smokey. We've picked this up for dinner a couple nights. Plus my guy loves their sweet tea. The sides haven't been that great though. We've tried mac n cheese, green beans, baked beans, and greens. Some were more tolerable than the others but nothing blew our socks off. Still. We'll continue to swing by for the great tasting pork and tea. read more

Full disclaimer: I'm a South Bend native who's never lived outside Indiana... So naturally I feel fully qualified to review a Texas BBQ joint. The restaurant was nice and the staff was super friendly. They also have outdoor seating which was a huge plus. I got the beef brisket sandwich and the meat was tender, delicious, etc. The sauces were also great. My favorite was the sweet city sauce that reminded me of my grandmas BBQ sauce. (She's from Detroit so she's legit with this stuff too.) In closing, the food was a lot like Dick's downtown but with outdoor seating and easier parking. read more

Located near Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis this restaurant Gives pulled pork a whole new meaning. Good sized portions with plenty of hot sauce varieties, I enjoyed all the options available. The prices seemed a bit high but the clean dining room was worth the extra cost compared to other smoked pork restaurants. read more

Never ordered City BBQ through Uber Eats before. Awful experience. Tried to call to ask a question about the BBQ, have been placed on hold 3 times for approx 30 mins. Can't speak to a love person. Call center reps are awful!!!!! This is crazy. Still on hold while writing this review. Never again! Waste of time and money! 8th time calling to get zero assistance! Pretty good. I don't have Southern roots so I'm not very particular about BBQ. The corn pudding was excellent. I had the pulled pork which was just OK. However, I do know of some places in the city that do not specialize in BBQ that have better pulled pork. The only thing I really didn't like, and what took away a star, was how much of a chain it felt like. There was the run of the mill sports paraphernalia, TV's in every corner, and cheesy signs everywhere. If I am in the area during lunch time I would be fine with stopping there. I have only love for City Barbeque. Technically, they are a chain, and for a chain, I think they are the best in Indy. I think the owner is great as well as his team. They stand for quality and service. The brisket is probably my favorite, but they have some good ribs and pulled pork. The turkey is a nice detour from the usual. For me the sides are hit or miss just depending on one's personal preference. I like trying the special side that's not on the menu. They've had some good ones such as the cukes and onions. I love, love, love their sweet tea. For my taste, it's perfect. It's not too sweet, and it's fresh! I have even had City Barbeque cater a work event, and the quality and price was outstanding. They young lady who did the set up didn't forget a thing, was on time, and was very courteous. Also, City Barbeque has been very good to us Yelpers. This is only my second time at this location. All of the locations that I have been to our equally as nice and clean. I was greeted at the door by two employees. They were both very nice. I ordered a sandwich and it had two sides. I got greens and corn addressing, I believe. The corn addressing it was a amazing. I almost wanted to get a second helping before I left. read more

I moved to Indy about a year ago and have heard really good things from friends about City BBQ so I was really excited to finally try it tonight when my husband and I were in the area. We picked up a family pack (supposed to feed 2 adults and 2 kids) with pulled pork, green beans, cornbread and fries. It was plenty of food - easily could have fed a small family and was more than enough for the two of us. The pros: - Pork was tender and tasty - Plenty of food at a good price The cons: - We tried 3 of their BBQ sauces (skipped the mustard bases one) and they all tasted pretty much the same to me. If I loved the flavor maybe this wouldn't be a big deal but it was heavy on the molasses and not too much else Overall it was plenty of food, tasted pretty decent but nothing really stellar about it. Great spot for some good BBQ. Be aware that they get pretty busy at lunch time. The line was actually out the door with people waiting (noon on Friday), but the line moved faster than I expected and the food was ready pretty quickly. I had the "more cowbell" sandwich. Last Sunday, I was craving a great "Barbeque Meal", but I didn't feel like cooking, so I decided to call for "Curbside"! Everything was awesome! Ordered pulled pork and brisket sandwiches with slaw, green beans, baked beans, and corn pudding! The order was perfectly correct, packaged well, and the food was all of great quality and freshness. I usually have a good experience with city bbq and have never had any issues with the service or food! However I did have a poor experience with the rewards program. I preordered a holiday meal for Christmas and scanned my rewards code when I prepaid for it. I never received my rewards points for it! I contacted them on three different occasions on their online portal. I still to this day haven't received a response from them. I considered ordering a meal from other restaurants, but thought I would get a good meal and earn points also! I will not be placing any more large orders from them in the future! read more

I have to say that City Barbeque is my go to for large group dining. I have had City Barbeque catering for as many 50 people and no matter how big or small the group...they never disappoint. So far, they have the best barbeque, besides mine , and for the amount of food you get it is quite affordable. I always treat my newly hired staff to lunch at City Barbeque. The only downside is that I always go to the IUPUI location and getting into and out of the parking lot is frustrating. read more

5 stars for the show put on tonight by City BBQ! It was so on fire, even the fire department showed up! We had everything from their beef brisket, turkey, sausage, ribs, greenbeans, coleslaw, potato salad, to their peach cobbler. MOST IMPORTANTLY, the baked beans are to die for! The founder and pitmaster Rick gave us an amazing history and description of their values and what is important to be successful. They donate all leftover food to a local charity and NONE their employees make minimum wage. Class act and amazing BBQ! Ate here with Granddaughter on Sunday. Atmosphere very good. You could smell the smoked meat before you entered. We were offered a free sample of any of the meat we would like to try they were all excellent. Both of us agreed to pulled pork and baked beans. I finally got a chance to go here after a coworker recommend it highly and I understand why. The meats are a four star. The beef is the best I've had yet. The pork is good and I've heard a lot about the sausage. The sides are mediocre. I don't think they make them in house that's disappointing to me. YUSSSSSS!!!!!! After spending a week in NYC, I was craving some proper pull pork. This place did not disappoint. The Brush Fire sauce is great, pulled pork is tender, brisket is tender and flavorful, the hushpuppies are everything you'd want them to be, and the baked beans were really yummy (and that's coming from someone who actually hates baked beans). I had a banquet here at City Barbeque. We got catered some delicious pulled pork with Mac n cheese, corn bread, etc. I am a huge fan of corn bread. Any time a restaurant offers corn bread, you know I'm getting it. City Barbeque's corn bread is stellar. It's nice and fluffy and sweet. Not bland like some places have it. It also doesn't have peppers or jalapeños in it which I appreciate since I am not a big spicy/hot kind of person. I think I could have eaten 12 of those loafs alone. The meat was also very good. I live close to this place and I always smell them barbecuing. Gets my mouth watering every time I get a whiff. Overall, this is a nice bbq place to eat at. read more
