Best City Bbq I've been to. All employees are super friendly. A tip of you're a late eater- they typically start running out of menu items about 8 so don't go in after 9 expecting them to have a full menu. With that said they will.always try to accommodate your order and even upgrade it with a more expensive cut for the same price if they are out of what you want. read more

Ok so my mom and I came up to visit my brother and his girlfriend. By the time we got there we were starving. I had looked up this place ahead of time and the website looked like it would be tasty. So we ordered... 2 of us had a half slab of ribs and 2 had brisket. The brisket was fabulous, I just didn't feel like I got my money's worth, the portion was small, but again very tasty. Now the ribs on the other hand were very tough. We are used to fall off the bone ribs like every bbq joint usually have. I did notice a sign that said, "Not fall off the bone/bite off the bone" so I guess that's just their way of doing it. Their cornbread was great and their potato salad was pretty good. One of us had fries, oh my they do know how to cook a crispy yummy fry! The only sauce I liked was the original... The others were not something any of us liked. So that's the food part of it, now to the customer service... My brother had ordered a canned beer and the cashier said that she couldn't give the beer because she was underage and she would have to ask the manager to grab the beer for him and I totally understand that they can't have underage people serving beer, it's a law..... That's not what the problem was. So we get our food and we're starting to eat because we figure it'll come soon. We get halfway through dinner, still no beer, so my brother goes up to the counter and says something because he's getting frustrated because he paid for it and he would like to drink it with dinner... The cashier said she forgot to tell the manager... Really? Isn't that the first thing you should do before taking another order? So that was frustrating. Other than that service was good. We fell in love with this barbeque when we lived in Toledo. We were excited to find a location in Greenwood then downright elated when one came in so close to the IUPUI campus. Large portions of delicious food. We typically split a sampler or a half chicken. The sides are delicious. There are some great staff at this location too. Very friendly and helpful. We tried City Barbeque once. I filled out the order online which really saved time. The line for pickup was empty while the lunch line was long. The girls were fast and efficient filling the order so I didn't wait long at all. The food was good. I love City Barbecue! There is a location directly in front of LA Fitness. Every morning when I leave the gym (about 7am), I can smell all the smoked meats, but of course they are not open that early. What a tease!! Lol I won't accuse them of teasing me because it is a process to create awesome BBQ. This a process that produces mouth watering brisket (my favorite), pulled pork and ribs. There are a variety of delicious sides, but I am on love with the mac and cheese and corn pudding. Yes, please pile on the carbs and while you're at it, throw in some peach cobbler!! I have also tried their fresh cut fries, baked beans and green beans. All of them are great! I get the same every time, but one time I decided to try the Cowbell. Oh my my my! It's a yummy sandwich with Beef Brisket, peppers, provolone, onions and horseradish sauce. I indulge often, but really looking forward to have a party catered. Bad, just absolutely bad... I'll give them the benefit of the doubt that their food might actually be editable, but the day I went everything was going wrong for them. Service: Absolutely horrendous. The place is mostly self service. You give them your name and they call it when the food is ready. We placed a small order of three lunch specials and it took over 25 minutes for them to put it on the tray. They weren't especially busy, it was beyond obvious that the kids chopping meat behind the counter were extremely high and moving at the pace of 90 year old grandma. Food: I order the lunch bbq sandwich plate. Feeling a little homesick I ordered hush puppies and macaroni as the sides. The macaroni was inedible, it was cooked properly, the flavor was just gross. I am almost positive that there was not any real cheese in it. I tasted it quite a few times trying to figure it out, after much debate my coworkers and I determined it tasted like what a kraft single would taste like if you melted it down still covered in the plastic wrapper. The hush puppies were actually good. Not greasy at all, their attention to detail was lacking in that I got a stray fry. Maybe it was freebie... maybe it was a sign that their standard for cleanliness and sanitation was lacking. And now for the pièce de résistance, the bbq. Heres all the reasons it was bad, ONE it was on a store bought bun, TWO, it had absolutely NO flavor, THREE, in addition to no flavor it was dryer then cardboard on fire. This is just my own personal opinion so take this as you will. City BBQ is without a doubt the best BBQ I've ever had. I pride myself on trying as many different BBQ joints as I can and I had previously awarded my #1 Favorite BBQ to another restaurant for years until I tried City BBQ for the first time about a year ago. Little did I know on that fateful evening last year that my stance on BBQ would be forever changed. Upon tasting the savory, fresh pulled pork, I immediately knew this place was the real deal. The pulled pork is the best pulled pork I've ever had. The brisket is terrific. Honestly, the green beans might be the hidden gem of City BBQ. The combination of the green beans and bacon bits give it a flavor unlike any other. Another obscurely amazing dish here is their peach cobbler. Mix that cobbler with their cream or take it home and throw some vanilla ice cream on there and wow, that's a tasty explosion in your mouth! Words could never adequately do justice to glorious food served at City BBQ. If you're just passing through Indy or a native to the Circle City who has never tried this place before, there is no BBQ place I would recommend more than the outstanding establishment that is City BBQ! read more

To start I was not a fan of the ribs. Not sure if it was the rub or wood used to smoke it, but I didn't care for it. That said, everything else was fantastic! The brisket was flavorful and the pulled pork was top shelf. The chicken and the turkey were also 5 star. Service was great, staff was friendly, and overall atmosphere was warm and inviting. The crown jewel in my opinion was the banana pudding. It was almost identical to what my grandmother used to make when I was younger. Overall the price for the 3 of us was reasonable for the sheer amount of food that we got and well worth several more visits. I've been to City Barbecue a few times now, and I'd have to say that it's pretty good barbecue. The ribs and brisket are both delicious, with or without their barbecue sauces. Their numerous side options make for a difficult decision. I like the hush puppies, greens, and cornbread. They also have seasonal side items. The fried pickles are also pretty tasty, but they are not a side unfortunately. They also sell larger potion sizes to cater to families and larger groups. They have carry out options available, and you can also order online. As far as beverages go, they have standard sodas, bottled sodas, sweet tea, and Sun King beer all available. They are in a good location not too far from downtown and there is usually plenty of parking and ample seating. The staff is also pleasant and helpful. Overall, this is decent barbecue in a place not known for barbecue and I'll be coming back again and again. read more

The friendly associate helping me recommended the baked beans so I ordered that and corn pudding. Both were delicious, but the baked beans were cold.
