Attention: Good BBQ is NOT CHEAP. Chain restaurant or not, this is the best BBQ in town. Those three giant smokers out front with wood piled high next to them are a very cool entry view. Inside, people are working the meats and it's a great scene. Felt like I was in a North Carolina joint. I ordered one of those platters so I could try tons of stuff - brisket, ribs, pulled pork, 1/4 chicken, cornbread, side salads, etc. Kids had puleld chicken. Also got fried pickles. Here's what I have to say: Ribs - absolutely perfect. Great smoke, cooked exactly right, not much fat, great seasoning. Brisket - Just about perfect as well. Delicious bark, fork tender, just awesome. Pulled pork - Outstanding. Flavor somehow all the way through. I don't know how that's possible. 1/4 chicken - not that great. Couldn't easily pull the leg off the thigh, so it wasn't cooked long enough for my taste. This is the only meat that was a miss. Pulled chicken - I've had better, but still very good. Kids loved it. Again - smoke flavor permeated nicely. Cornbread - 100% great. They serve tiny loaves. Cute and everyone went crazy for it. Side Salads - they make their own ranch and the lettuce etc. was so fresh and crisp. BBQ joints often leave me and the wife looking for a healthy side that isn't doused in bacon grease, but this salad did the trick perfectly. Fried Pickles - salty as hell like they are almost everywhere. Not a fan, but they were the same you're probably used to. Texas Toast - kinda boring So D&R used to have very good ribs and brisket. I missed those. But here we are and City BBQ is even better. City puts Revolution & South Street Smokehouse to shame with both meats and sides. Looking to get back to try some more sides. read more

I was really looking forward to City BBQ opening. We tried a little of everything. Turkey, pulled pork, brisket and sausage along with Greens, Mac and cheese. Unfortunately we were not impressed. The meats were tender and juicy. However taste lacked that punch of smoke. Like it was cooked mostly in an oven. The sides were bland and everything just lacked flavor. This was a drive thru order, not that it should matter. We plan on giving them one more shot due to lack of options. Honestly for a short drive your better off money spent at Slabby's in Frankfort. The food is great, had cowbell sandwich 9.99 an was very small, on miniature toasted bread, everything you by separate. Had the sandwich an side salad (not very appetizing) with sauces paid 14.00. The food is great but not 14.00 great. Expected more I guess. read more

Extremely tasty yet quite overpriced and difficult to get full or even half-think of taking food home at under fifteen dollars which is unfortunate for a basic fast food spot considering many area food hits hit the wallet lighter and appetite harder, Town & Gown, The Bryant, Red Seven, Big League, State St BBQ, Revolution BBQ, Country Cafe, and even Texas Roadhouse properly crafts a hefty amount for the budget. I noticed my friends were overall mostly happy with their dishes however the bread side was dry and didn't get a second bite. The fries were stale. I love banana pudding and got a tiny cup for four bucks, slapped on flavor and texture but silly size. This place seems to be only about the meats which does smack! My briscuit sandwich had incredible texture and deep rich flavors however, again non-meat issues, lacking even a pickle or any extra toppings to step up this basic presentation to at least provide better than Panera Bread. Yet nothing, no pickled onion, cheese addition, hot peppers, parsely, just a few sauce options which did do lovely. Overall hesitant to try again given the above restaurant list especially The Bryant and Town & Gown which got me a regular customer since they opened. read more

City BBQ produces the most consistently delicious Que I've had at a chain restaurant. The Lafayette location has not let me down so far--all of it has been as good as the other locations I've enjoyed over the years. Top choice is the ribs--always a solid smoke flavor, soft and tender without falling off the bone. The brisket is a close second and the restaurant can cut it extra lean for you, as well as serve it sliced or chopped. I've also enjoyed the exceptionally friendly staff at each location, a rarity at restaurants these days (you know what I mean). Altogether City BBQ is a great option if you don't want to be disappointed with an authentic BBQ meal. read more

A friend and I grabbed coffee and parked in the togo spots, as it was 2 hours prior to them opening and would have been gone before their doors were unlocked. An incredibly rude older lady knocked on the window asking if we had a mobile order. We said no and politely offered to move if it was an issue and she was responded with "Yeah get out you need to leave". While I understand she reserves the right to ask us to move, it doesn't kill to be nice. Your attitude towards us 2 hours before the store opening is ridiculous coming from someone who works in food service. Smile, it won't break your face! read more

Ate at City BBQ for the first time yesterday. I had the Pick 2 meat (Brisket and 1/4 chicken were my choices) meal and my husband had the Brisket sandwich with a side of slaw. The serving sizes were ample (I took the chicken home to have for dinner) the prices were reasonable if not just a little lower than we are accustom to. The Brisket was legit! A nice crust, smoky and I could cut the slices with the side of my fork. It melted in my mouth! I highly recommend City BBQ. The staff was very pleasant and the manager came by and ask if everything was OK and the answer was a solid Yes! I would post a pic but the food smelled so amazing I dug right in and forgot to get a pic. read more

This morning around 11:55 we ordered a three meats, two sides meal. We had ribs, beef brisket and sausage. The meal was shared between three people and one of us ate most of it. After that, all three vomited repeatedly and the person whom ate most of it had vomited 7 times. We were pretty sure it was this meal that made us sick because we ate different things in the morning and previous night but all were fine. read more

Had great anticipation of having their barbecue. I purchased the Pulled pork and also Brisket, one pound of each. The pulled pork was dry and lacked flavor and the brisket was half tender juicy and tender and other half dry and tough. I was expecting better for $54 dollars. read more

We have been excited to try this place, but we were disappointed. The meals are A La Carte so you order your meat/sandwich and then pay extra for sides. I tried the Nashville Hot chicken sandwich and it was just ok. The Mac and cheese was so bland I debated whether to finish eating it. My husband tried the pulled chicken and baked beans. I'd say everything was just ok, but for the price it was not worth it. They have some gluten free items such as the sauces, meats, and some sides (potato salad, baked beans, green beans) but not all of the sides in the allergen menu are available at this location. read more

1st time here. Got sampler to look for favorites. Turkey was monster than I usually find at BBQ places. Brisket was drunk, but I always think Brisket is dry. Pulled pork was tasty. Sausage had good flavor, not spicy. Green beans had large pieces of bacon - yum. Creamy coleslaw was pretty standard fare. Tried vinegar and mustard sauces, both sweeter than I like. No sugar- free sauce options. Overall a good choice for barbecue in this area. read more

I was in town for work for the week and stayed at a hotel across the street. I decided to stop in for dinner one night. I got the City Sampler, which was supposed to come with brisket, pulled pork, turkey, and sausage. The restaurant was out of turkey, which is no big deal. I doubled up on pulled pork instead. The food was just okay and rather pricey. The pulled pork was pretty good. The brisket was so salty I couldn't finish it and the sausage had almost no flavor at all. For the money you'll spend here, you'd be better served to find somewhere else. read more

I had a brisket sandwich - nothing else because it doesn't come with anything else. Each side are like 3 dollars extra and the brisket sandwich itself is naturally already 10. So it's expensive but the brisket was delicious. And it was a quick drive thru no wait time despite a packed place (yes, they do have a drive thru!) That said, the only sauce they gave me for it was bland and disappointing. Made me miss mission bbq back home. Would I come back? Maybe if I'm really craving brisket and I can't find another place a better deal for it butttt otherwise probably not. read more

Very friendly and helpful service for a first time customer, the front counter employee was kind and educated me of the menu. I love the interior design of the store, it feels very homey with southern hospitality. I got the kids sandwich with brisket which was delicious, the brisket was very tender. Corn bread pudding was delicious!! The mac n cheese was also very good. I love my collard greens but unfortunately the ones here were extremely salty, It was inedible but I know it would've been delicious if it was less salty. I got an Arnold Palmer for my drink which was delicious, the sweet tea was the perfect amount of sweetness. I will definitely be returning! read more
