Driving through on our way home we stopped here for lunch. The prices are great, portions are large but not ridiculous. The Mac and cheese was simple and tasty, thank you for not putting pepper in it. The brisket taqos were delightful, French fries were crispy, and the fiancé says his pulled pork sandwich was good. We are all learning to adjust to our new environment. However City Barbeque seems to struggle the most out of all the places I have ordered from in the past year. The time before this I waited a half hour in my vehicle for my order to be brought out. Shame on me for waiting so long after pressing the (I'm here) button for curbside. This time I went in to avoid that and make sure there was bbq sauce in the bag seeing as how there was no options for picking any. Today shame on me for not double checking the bag more closely then for the BBQ sauce. I drive over a state line to get home only to find out there is no Mac n cheese. Well I guess I'm not the only one having problems seeing as when I called their complaints option was full. I called again opting for the new customer option to be able to speak to someone. Again shame on me for expecting some form of customer service, at least at this establishment it is DEAD! I was told that because I ordered on line it was my fault. When I asked how to pull my order back up I was told that is not possible in addition my name was cut off of the order causing immense confusion (that was probably my fault also), I'm assuming that wasn't the only thing cut off. My advice would be if you can't live without their BBQ check your bag, double check everything, go so far as to open every container. They are not able to do their job so you must do it for them. BTW my green beans that I got a double order of instead of the Mac n cheese must have been the bottom of the barrel. Silver lining I have another container that I wasn't supposed to. read more

Poor Business Planning for Consumers! Manager Stated - "It's great to run out of food! We aim for that goal everyday! It saves us from throwing it out." ___________________________________ I performed my due diligence by placing the following order at 6:00 pm today via the City BBQ app: 1 full slab of ribs 2 potato salads 1 peach cobbler (I always order a basket of fries and bread when I pick up the food so they are hot) My pick up time was for 7:30 pm. I received a call at 7:28 pm from a young lady stating they were out of ribs and they won't have any ready until 8:30 pm because they take 3 hours to cook. I stated "No problem, my family is hungry and this is our dinner for tonight so I will wait. She then put me on n hold and passed the phone to another colleague who said..."we just sold out and won't have any until tomorrow." I reiterated that I placed my order at 6:00 pm! She replied "No, it was 6:06 pm . . . " Really? I said well what happens now? She said I can't do anything for you but you can talk to a manager if you like. I replied in the affirmative and after waiting for 5 minutes, the manager came on the phone. She was aggressive and didn't bother to listen to me but went into the rudest diatribe about how they "want to run out of food early because we have to throw everything away." I asked "well what about your consumers? She said that "I should come earlier!" "We run out all the time and that is a good thing for their store." I told her that is not a good business plan and I cannot believe that corporate is onboard with this type of business-selfish model. She continued to over talk me, so I politely waited until she finished the obviously rehearsed responses. She did and to make a long and sad story short, she said a few more condescending things (assumptions of me) and I finally asked "Ok...how does this end?" She told me to come into the store and pick up a card for a free slab of ribs. Finally I was tired of the rudeness because I knew that as a loyalty customer, she could have simply ended my misery by placing the free item on my app account. So I just move past her goading and asked if she could please just place that item on my app. And she stated yes. I wanted to make you aware of my experience, the rudeness of your team, and the constant fact that your Toledo store believes it is a good business model to plan poorly. Obviously, no one reviews daily customer traffic patterns to use as a base for planning. Maybe you are do not see anything wrong with constantly running out of food, but City BBQ's reputation could easily suffer in this community because of it, but don't take my word for it...please ask around or better yet, read your own reviews. . City BBQ serves a significant area in Toledo and surrounding but they are quickly becoming more well known for not being a dependable meal choice. Sooner or later folks will tire of the mistreatment and the constant running out of ribs and will walk away. As you know Toledo is the restaurant Mecca of almost all of the domestic world. Pretty good BBQ (this ain't Texas). We eat here often, the kids love it. It's hit or miss... some days it's really good, some days not so much. Last time I ordered the Brisket, it was almost all fat. My only knock I would have is sometimes the pulled pork is fatty and the brisket was cooked ok but not as good as it can be sometimes. As always everything is has been great! We were driving down Central looking for something inspiring to eat for an early dinner and came across City Barbeque. I had never been there before and hadn't even heard of it, so I took a leap of faith and headed in. I had the half slab of BBQ ribs, hush puppies, and fries. My wife had the pulled pork sandwich, potato salad, and baked beans with brisket, while my picky daughter opted for a side of mac and cheese. The ribs were good, cooked and sauced just right. The hush puppies were great, with a nice crunchy outside, but I would have liked some sort of dipping sauce thet went well with them; I tried all of the tableside sauces but none seemed to fit. The fries were hand cut, a style I don't normally like because of how soggy they are, but I thought they worked OK with the mustard sauce. I didn't try the other sides until the next day, but the potato salad was real good, the beans with brisket were great a day old and cold, as beans like that tend to be. The mac and cheese seemed average, but worked well with a bit of the spicy BBQ sauce added. Overall I'll say the experience was good, with no complaints from the family, and the staff was friendly and helpful. The portions were huge and I like how the condiment bar was set up and included pickle slices and hot peppers. One the only downfalls was while the the sauce selection was broad, none stood out as a favorite. I'll be back to try the sampler soon. read more

Stopped in for lunch the other day. The people were very friendly and down to earth. I was shocked to see other reviewers say they had a bad experience with the staff here. Every single staff member we saw was smiling and friendly. I like the laid back atmosphere here as well. The place was also clean, as were the restrooms when we went. The food was really good too! Someone gave me a gift card so I we went to check it out. I was surprised to see they used a cafeteria-style concept (order at counter, no server) rather than a traditional sit-down restaurant, but that setup seemed suitable for barbecue. We ordered the Deluxe City Sampler. It came with chicken, ribs, pulled pork, brisket, and two sides. This was a decent representation of their fare. They were all out of brisket, so we got extra chicken instead. This was plenty of food for our family of four. Unfortunately, quantity is a poor substitute for quality. The ribs were tough and dry, exactly the opposite of what you want out of ribs. My wife said the same of the chicken. If I would have payed for it myself, I think I would have complained. The pulled pork fared a little better, but was otherwise unremarkable. The sides (macaroni and cheese, fries, corn bread, corn pudding) and sauces were serviceable but forgettable. Overall, it was the barbecue equivalent of Subway. It resembled food that is usually delicious. At its best it was just okay, at its worst it was arduous. Maybe they were having an off night, but there are definitely better barbecue options in Toledo. read more

I live in Columbus and dine at City BBQ on a regular basis and was very excited to see that the Toledo location reopened. It is clean and inviting, staff is friendly and the food is excellent! Just as great as their Columbus counterparts. The brisket is my favorite thing on the menu and it's hard for me to find collard greens that are as good as my mom's but theirs are really good. Just wow. Walked in and was greeted right away. It was our first time there so we were given a drink and a walk-through the menu. We decided to split the Cowbell with sides of macaroni and a salad. The macaroni was cheesy and delicious. The brisket was smooth and not chewy at all and the bushfire BBQ sauce had a nice little heat to it as well. We've been meaning to try City Barbeque since moving from Toledo to Sylvania last year. We decided to order for takeout and are very glad we did. We both had the dark meat chicken which was moist and delicious -- and a good size. The sides portions were generous, with the potato salad being one of the best restaurant versions I've had. Great BBQ in the Midwest.. WOW While driving out to a park we passed City BBQ. I am a Floridian and believe that the best BBQ is found in the South. I knew that on the way back from the park we HAD to stop for lunch because while great BBQ is sublime very good BBQ will still make my day. I did not recognize from the road that this is BBQ company is the same one that I previously dined with in Dayton, Ohio. When I walked in I recognized the menu and décor and knew I was in for the same great experience I had in Dayton. I had a lunch special of a small (less that their usual full size) pulled pork sandwich, with two sides (baked beans and homemade French Fries) for $6.49, to which I added a single St. Louis Rib (a one bone for $1.69 ) and ice tea. Ratings all 1 to 10 scale. Pulled pork 9. The pulled pork was served without sauce and on the table their was a Original BBQ sauce, a mustard sauce (in orange), a hot BBQ sauce, and a North Carolina vinegar. I tried all but the hot sauce. The Original was excellent, a sauce to be proud of, not a Sysco product, some sweet, some heat all good a solid 9. I have not had enough North Carolina sauces to properly rate the NC sauce. It was loose like vinegar. If NC sauce is your thing you will probably be happy just knowing its on the table. The mustard sauce was good this is where southern BBQ shines. I would give the mustard an 8 and be thankful for choices that were distinct. At some BBQ joints they have a sweet and a regular and a hot that taste almost the same. Here each sauce is unique. BBQ Beans... 7... They were good but nothing special. The beans and sauce were about the same texture because the beans were so well cooked and the sauce was so thing. The color of this disk was really very dark. Fries... 10... City Q, makes their fries from fresh potatoes not frozen pre-cut French fries from Sysco. They fry them up and put on sea salt. If you like the French fries at Five Guys or French bistros and cafes who take the extra time you will appreciate these fries. Usually I order Southern fare and not fries at BBQ restaurants but when I read that these were fresh I had to try them. RIBS 9.5, Let me say thank you for the fact that I got to try pork and ribs at lunch without the need to order a whole rack and thank you again for the fact that my $1.69 one bone order was a portion about triple what I was expecting.. I got 3 bones with rib meat between each of them. I was expecting one bone with meat on one side. This was nearly of a rack of ribs and the ribs were big. They ribs were tender and were nicely sauced. The ribs were fall of the bone tender. City is serious about their BBQ and for a micro-chain they are doing amazing work. They have better BBQ than the three biggest small BBQ chains in Florida. The also have kettle brewed Ice Tea in both sweet and Un with fresh lemon ready do go. Their tea is another 10. Its hard to believe just how rude the workers are. Not just once that I've been there, EVERY SINGLE TIME we go, we are treated so poorly that I've decided I'm not going back. Tried City Q in Toledo last night as part of our yearly fireworks run in Ohio and really liked the barbeque at City Q. You get in line at the counter to order and then after ordering, you can go get your drink of choice and sit down as they will bring your food out to you. I got the "City Samper" which comes with brisket, pork, turkey, & sausage, 2 sides & texas toast for $15.99. The portions are quite large and are enough for two to share or in my case split and have for another meal. I thought all of the meats were done nicely although a bit light on the smoke for my tastes. The turkey was really moist which surprised me a bit as it's white meat and smoked, so I thought they did a great job on the turkey. The brisket and pork had a good smoke ring and had enough flavor without sauce. The sausage was just right for me, with a good amount of black pepper in the sausage and a nice snappy skin. My sides were baked beans and hush puppies. The baked beans were ok. I've had better but they did have brisket in them. The hush puppies were GREAT!! Crunchy on the outside, fluffy on the inside with just the right amount of onion and spices. The Texas Toast was good too, cooked up on the griddle to give it some extra flavor. The seating area is an open area with tables for 4 or 6 and larger groups can sit picnic bench style. They also have outdoor seating available. The sauces were good too. They have a Carolina vinegar that was one of the best I've tasted, as well as a spicy hot barbeque sauce (my favorite), a house blend (think KC Masterpiece), and a sweet sauce as well. Wanted to do 4.5. Ribs, chicken are great, but the best is the turkey and the pulled pork. Like others, the sweet barbecue sauce is sooooo good, along with my favorite, the corn pudding. Salads, etc, are all super fresh. Large diet drink selection which is very unusual...not just diet coke or pepsi like everywhere else. Diet root beer, Dr. Pepper and Mountain dew along with Diet Pepsi. And unsweetened tea. Lots of free condiments...pickles, Land o Lakes butter, fresh lemon.....as much as you want. Place is very clean. The only things I don't recommend....green beans are watery and mushy, and don't order ribs later in the evening, because what you will get is very tough and dried out. Came here twice in one week because my bf just loves to eat here! They have delicious pulled pork sandwiches with a variety of sauces to choose from (they have all the sauces at your table). The sweet bbq is probably my favorite. The brushfire bbq was too spicy for my liking! My favorite side has got to be the coleslaw-something about it makes it so refreshing! I've tried their mac and cheese as well-it is very creamy and pretty "heavy". I don't think I could ever eat all of that PLUS the sandwich+2nd side. The most recent time we went there, we both came out smelling like a fire pit (hair and clothing), so just keep this in mind if you plan on going out somewhere afterwards!
