I got on yelp to find a nearby barbecue place. Although our hotel was closer to the Polaris mall, I saw this recommendation first and found directions. It was easy to drive to and we got to see a little bit of Westerville. My husband was slightly worried he would not get enough to eat (he's a big eater). But he left happy and full. My husband and i drove by this place on our way back home to Michigan. After being done with fast food (we take many road trips for work) we decided to make a stop and enjoy some BBQ! The place itself is a cute little hangout with tables and chairs and a small amount of booths. I ordered my fav- a pulled pork sandwich and hun ordered a pulled chicken sandwich. I opted for fries and baked beans as sides and DH had hush puppies and coleslaw. The coleslaw was different in the fact it was not of the creamy kind, but tangy and vinegar-y instead. Which was actually really good. I really loved the baked beans as well. The meats were nicely smoked and had a good flavor (also, the pork was lean which is a plus in my book). Sauces are on the tables and are all pretty good. I really liked the sweet BBQ and the spicier variant. All in all a pretty good place to eat, we will probably be back. read more

Definitely some of the best BBQ in Columbus! The pulled pork is my favorite, and the spicy sauce is fantastic - just the right amount of bite. This branch has a good location, though the old one on Cleveland was actually closer to my house. The inside tends to be a little too brightly lit. Add that to how clean and open it is, and it is a little school lunchroomy, but as long as they continue to smoke pigs the way they do, I'm hooked. I picked up a family pack and a half slab for my sis's fam and me. They really do a great job at take out. Super fast service, practical packaging, and lots of options. Everyone enjoyed the food. I really didn't know what to expect before we ate here....but I can honestly say it was FREAKIN' amazing!!! Both me and my dinner companion had the "City Sampler" which consisted of pulled pork, brisket, and then sliced turkey. It also comes with two honkin' pieces of garlic bread and then two sides. Needless to say, I was stuffed! There are different kind's of BBQ sauce on the table. I especially enjoyed the sweet bbq sauce. Very tasty! Flew to Oh. to visit some friends in Mansfield last year. They picked us up in Columbus and drove us around a little. We passed City BBQ and my friend says you have to try this place. I thought OK, I'll try it. I love BBQ and have eaten at some of the best (in my opinion). We made another trip from Mansfield a couple of days late just to eat here. We were surprised my the friendlyness of the staff. I know that I wanter ribs mut my wife and daughters were not sure of what to order. Knowing they were undecided the girl at the counter sugested a sample, so they handed out a sample of whatever we wanted, a rib, briskit, pulled chicken, potato salad, whatever we wanted. We ordered and recieved our food and it was great. Better than I could of expected. I must say that I became fery fond of the mustard sauce. I loved it so much that after returning to Florida I reqeusted that our friends bring some on there visit here and they did not dissapoint! Got a gallon of it. Not sure if that is enough. We will be visiting our old friends in Mansfield again this June and have arrainged a visit to our NEW friends at City BBQ when we arive. read more

I had such a great meal at the Westerville City Barbecue! I had a turkey sandwich, and the meat just melts in your mouth. It could not have been any better. I enjoyed the friendly atmosphere. This is a chain - but this location executes really well what they offer. I always like to suprise my friends I am visiting in the area with dinner from here. The food is really good and the service is awesome. A dinner for 4-6 people is around $40 (if you don't jump from a tree and order additional meat and sides). I like their corn pudding as a side. When I first moved to Ohio, my first bbq experience was with City BBQ. Some kinda way I had a box of their frozen brisket in my freezer and heated it up one night. Surprisingly, it was very tender with wonderful flavor. So in my head I'm thinking, "If it's this good frozen, I can only image what the restaurants items taste like." Now I hardly go to BBQ places because I'm from Down South and......WE KNOW AND DO BBQ! And usually, especially during spring and summer, I smoke my own meats. But this day in December (and 2 years later) I finally decide to give em a shot. Completely disappointed. I ordered a 2 meat place with ribs and sausage with mac & cheese and baked beans. The mac and cheese was processed, cafeteria style. Thumbs down and the beans could've been cooked a little longer and they weren't as tender as they should've been. The addition of the brisket was welcome as that's how we make our beans back home but the sauce was nothing to write home about, none of them are. The sausage was okay, I must say. They gave me 2 whole links but the ribs, although they were smoked, were the smallest St Louis style ribs that I had ever seen. And to top it all of, this meal was almost $20 (highway robbery)! Now I try not to be a regional snob when it comes to food but there are some things that I just believe that we do waaaaaayyyyyyy better Down South and BBQ happens to be one of them. This City BBQ location, as with the location on Henderson Rd are both pretty good. They have the some very good BBQ with everything from brisket and pulled pork to turkey and ribs. Their sides are good as well. I definitely recommend getting some of the corn bread, and if you're a fan of hush puppies, go ahead and try the hush puppies that City cooks up. If it is your first time eating here, you might consider getting one of the many sampler plates so you can try a little of a lot of items. But don't be fooled into thinking that a sampler plate means a "little" food. They are in fact quite large portions. My girlfriend and I have split the deluxe sampler before and had plenty to take home for leftovers. read more

I've had City BBQ at catered parties, work functions, etc. many times, but I've never been inside the restaurant. My family and I went to the Westerville location and I really felt like it was a laid back, family atmosphere. I ordered a 1/4 Chicken, Macaroni & Cheese, & Cornbread. The Chicken could have been a little more tender, but I am extremely picky about my chicken. My sister had the same thing and she loved it. The Macaroni & Cheese is to die for...I think every single person in our party ordered it, including my 80+ year old grandma, and she just couldn't get enough of it! The Corn Bread would have been much better had it been warmer, but again, I am a little on the picky side with that type of stuff. I love the fact that you can get fresh teas & lemonade. I think it's hard to find a really good, fresh lemonade around here, and it is the ultimate refreshment for me in the summertime. Theirs is by far the best I have had in Columbus. My family said the tea was also really good, and my sister was mixing the Lemonade with the Unsweetened Tea. My family is a huge fan of City BBQ, and although it will never be my first choice (not because it's not great, but because I'm just not a huge BBQ fan), I will definitely be back. I will say that their food always seems to be extremely fresh and their staff is always very sweet. My sister actually pondered for a good 5 minutes on what to get and asked about 20 questions, and the lady could not have been more happy to help her find something! My family is actually having a party next weekend and City BBQ will be catering it. That really says something - especially when it's an hour away from them! read more

Went in for a late lunch. Ordered the cowbell sandwich. With two sides french fries and collard greens with pork. My husband ordered the sample platter with slaw and baked beans. The food was good. Smoked but a little dry. My husband sample platter had a sausage two slices of turkey breast pork and brisket. To which she said he probably could've done better. There were three sauces to choose from. The best for me was the brushfire. Or else it would've been too sweet. Haven't been there in a while. I have been to this location quite a few times and I come here quite a few times out of my week even. I DoorDash here a lot and they are usually always on time with orders and if they're not then they likely swamped and they always work really hard to pull it together as fast as I can. They really do have a hard-working staff and it seems like they work together very well. I'll be in here a few times with my dad and my partner since I do live right down the street from here and if you download the rewards app then you can earn free things and also keep a rewards balance to get free money off of your purchases. I think that's kind of cool and innovative. You do have to use the app if you want to get the rewards but I'm pretty sure you get five dollars for free when you just sign up and also get a free dessert for your birthday. The food that we have had here has been really good and no problems ever. I really like this location and I enjoyed that the staff is attentive and knowledgeable and quick and also very friendly. Even though they're busy and usually rushing around, they are personable and make sure to say something to you while you're there. City BBQ is always a good choice. Meat is always cooked to perfection and sides are always delicious. Went at an "off time" even for a holiday, but there was still a good size crowd. Outstanding no frills barbecue I grew up in the South, and for me barbecue involves counter service, picnic tables, and sweet tea. City Barbecue has all of the above, and whether you want brisket, pulled pork, a half chicken, or ribs, its outstanding, especially with their sweet sauce (the have a hotter sauce with more vinegar as well). Sides are solid, and their lemonade and sweet tea really separate City Barbecue from its peers. Prices are modest, and service is generally quick (when it comes to refills you're on your own, which isn't necessarily a bad thing). There are many ways to do barbecue, but for me, when it comes to down home barbecue, this is as good as it gets (much better than Hoggys). read more

I struggle with this review. I reviewed a while back about the fatty brisket and dry corn pudding. City BBQ reached out to me and offered to make it up to me. I took them up on that and ended up with a compd lunch. I got the pulled pork and slaw sandwich. The pork was much better than the brisket! The slaw wasn't too bad. I ordered my fries 'crispy' and they were pretty close to perfect. The mac and cheese wasn't bad but it wasn't great either. This was much better than my last visit, but I a still just not a huge fan. Don't let that stop you from giving them a try, I mean, they have Cheerwine, so I'll still go back! read more

I'd like to start this off by saying I am aware of the global pandemic and the struggles that come with operating a restaurant during this time. If you are a fan of bad service and undercooked chicken, this is the place for you! Tonight I ordered a smoked chicken sandwich and 4 sides (mac n cheese, hush puppies, green beans, and fries). Unfortunately after receiving my bag and driving all the way home I realized they forgot 2 of the items and the Barbeque sauce that was supposed to be in my order. I called them back and they said I could come pickup the rest of the order. So I drove 3 miles back to the establishment to receive my undercooked chicken sandwich and cold fries. Unreal! It's like they left it on the counter the whole time! To my disbelief, they forgot my Barbeque sauce the second time as well. How can you call yourself a Barbeque joint and forget the ingredient that's in your name? It's like chick-fil-a forgetting the chick-fil-a sauce. Sad! They also never compensated me....no refund, no additional food, and the guy at the counter called me "buddy." Man, we could've been buddies if you just got the order right. You had 2 chances. I liked the hot sauce which wasn't that spicy, not a fan of the sweet sauce. I also had the green beans which were just mushy and I did not like the Mac n cheese. I couldn't taste the cheese flavor and the noodles were really mushy. As a Chicago native, I've had much better barbecue in Chicago. We just finished walking at Sharon Woods and were looking for some food. We settled on BBQ and omg was it good. I got the half rack of ribs with green beans, mac and cheese, and texas toast. It was amazing! the TT was so good I could have asked for ten pieces to take home. They have 3 different sauces you can try and a station with jalapenos, onions, and pickles! I used to frequent this establishment at least once a week before they changed their potato salad recipe. They used to have some that was exactly like my Moms but they changed it. I still enjoy their baked beans with brisket and their pulled pork and chicken are pretty good too. It's pretty dependable for BBQ when I'm craving it and I can't get to my fave Mom and Pop joints. As I've not had a whole lot of barbecue in other states I wouldn't be able to comment on whether it's as good as or not but I do know it's not too bad. Four stars is as good as I can give any BBQ place north of the Low Country and not in my own backyard. I'm saving 4.5 stars for the next little road side shack in South Carolina and 5 stars is reserved for my own dry rubbed, slow smoked pork from the back yard. With that disclaimer, City BBQ is THE PLACE in Columbus for some really tasty pork, beef or turkey. These guys know their que. With or without sauce it's always a treat. Their pork is almost as good as mine, their brisket is almost as good as my brothers, and their turkey is phenomenal! Much juicier than anything I've ever turned out. Definitely put any location on your list, I've eaten at most of them and never been disappointed. read more
