I had a great experience here about a year ago, which is why I returned. Unfortunately, this visit was the exact opposite. I brought my vintage motorcycle in for three specific issues: to have the carburetor checked because it was coughing under load going uphill, small oil leak, and to have the rear tire replaced because it was slowly losing air. When I picked the bike up, I was told the work was complete after inspection. At no point was I told the clutch was worn out or that it needed replacement, nor was there any mention of it on my invoice. The very first ride home, I immediately noticed the motorcycle wasn't riding the same. Downshifting became difficult, the shifter would stick, and it became much harder to find neutral. None of these issues existed before the service. I reached out simply to understand what had changed. I asked whether the oil or any adjustments could be contributing to the difference. Rather than answering my questions, I was repeatedly told I needed a new clutch and to "learn how to live with it" because the bike is 45 years old. What concerns me is that the clutch only became an issue after I reported the bike wasn't operating the same. If the clutch was truly worn to the point that it required replacement whether cable or complete system, I would have expected that to be identified during the service, discussed with me when I picked up the motorcycle, and documented on my work order. It wasn't. As a woman, I left feeling dismissed rather than listened to. I wasn't accusing anyone of causing the problem, I was asking reasonable questions to understand why my motorcycle behaved differently immediately after the service. Instead of a professional discussion, I was met with defensive responses and told to accept it. I understand that vintage motorcycles require maintenance and that components wear out. What I expect from any reputable shop is clear communication, transparency about anything discovered during the inspection, and respectful treatment when a customer has legitimate concerns. If you want quality work this is the place. If you want great rates and dont want to be scammed this is the place. Dropped my 2020 Ninja off on a Monday afternoon around 3pm. I had a bunch of stuff needed done. Chains and sprockets replacing, oil filters change, exhaust upgrade, back brakes changed, and minor adjustments and fixings here and there. I was thinking at least the earliest 2-3 days maybe. Especially when i dropped it off so late. Lol he came back the next morning and texted me said it was done! I was so happy to get back on the road so fast because i commute to work with my bike. Great communication when your in there he talks to you and tells you whats needed to be done. He also does a lot of extra adjustments for you for free!! Just saying im recommending this place to my whole crew and everyone i know who rides and everyone who i see riding haha. Adam is the man!!! I was gearing up to sell my scooter and of course, while I am riding it the thermostat light pops on and my engine temp approaches red. Yay. I won't sell the scooter like this so I take it to Adam. He tells me it can be anything giving me ballpark figures of $300-$600 depending on the issue. Ugh. Well I leave it with him and the next day he says your bike is ready. I was like "huh?" no parts needed to be ordered? He said because it could be anything that he would approach it with the cheapest and easiest solutions first and he did a coolant flush and said "this will take care of the over heating issue." While he was at it, he fixed a loose handlebar module too without me asking. $140 out the door but I brought him some grub. I basically gave Adam a blank check and he could've quoted anything and claimed XXXX is the problem, but he didn't and charged pretty much the bare min. MAY 1, 2020 UPDATE: I have worked with the shop three times now, but I can no longer recommend them. The advantage here is they can often get you in quickly. But there is no price advantage to going here versus BMW Motorcycles of San Francisco. The quotes are right on top of each other. What killed it for me is I brought my bike in for a major service interval. When I got it back, it had a heavy oil leak. Never had any leakage before this. When I called the shop to review the service that was done, Adam told me service records were with the accountant and he couldn't tell me what he had done. When I told him I was extremely frustrated and pressed him hard, he told me he could get the records but not right away. This is no way to run a business. And I have since found out that the state board requires that a copy of records be kept on premises at all times. Long story short, after paying City Cycle Werkes $740 for service, I had to take it to BMW motorcycles of San Francisco and spend another $354 to fix the oil leak from the valve cover gasket, that City Cycle Werkes left me with. If it were a couple of drops a week I would've ignored it but the leak was crazy, and the oil was pooling under my bike. I love supporting small businesses, but this one has lost my trust so... Bummer. -------------------------- PREVIOUS REVIEW I brought my BMW F800 ST in for a tire replacements and an annual service. Adam promised that I could be ready in 24 hours, but it was ready 6 hours early. Nice! I wish the prices here were lower. I was quoted $350 from BMW Motorcycles of San Francisco. City Cycle Werkes did the job for $312. 11% savings. I would expect 20-30% savings at an independent shop. If they could save 15% off the prices, I would have zero complaints. Adam is awesome, I'm pretty mechanically incompetent but he is definitely a trustworthy guy. A few months ago my ignition was failing to even turn, so I towed it to him and he popped the battery out right there, spent like 20 minutes cleaning the cable connections and got it to start just like that. He didn't even charge me for it. Just popped by unannounced again today for an unexpected nail in my tire and he replaced the tube and had it ready in an hour. My only qualm is that his location is in a very seedy part of the Tenderloin. But I don't care. He could relocate to the bottom of Mount Doom and I'd still take my bike there. read more

I had an older Honda Shadow a couple years back and Adam serviced it throughout the 3-4 years that I owned it. I have long since moved on from that motorcycle, moved to Marin, and bought an older Vespa for tooling around on. I had a tire blowout last week and searched for a shop in Marin where I could take it, I soon found out that there are no shops in Marin that will work on Vespas, there were only 1 or 2 shops in the city that were even willing to talk to me about it (evidently it's a pain putting on a new rear tire on a Vespa). He is one of the only mechanics in the city that is open past 5 pm and open on Saturdays. I've had to take my bike in two times in the last 2 weeks and I always leave with really valuable advice. Super late review, but my first time coming here was a few months back. I came here as a recommendation from my friend. I brought my 2006 Honda Rebel in as soon as I bought it so I can get it checked out. Adam is a super friendly and honest man. After taking a look at my bike, he gave me a breakdown of what needed to be done. I told him that I was on a budget and can't splurge a lot on the bike right now. Adam gave me options of what I can do and what needed to be done that day. I got a full tune up, my front tires changed and he even cleaned my chains for free. His prices were all reasonable. We live in San Diego, but our son has been living in SF while attending UOP... and riding our 20-year-old Suzuki DR 200 back and forth to school for the past 2 years. It started running really rough, and we were afraid it was toast. This is my second review but it's one of multiple times this shop has helped me out. Some clown evidently tried to steal the battery from my bike and in doing so they cut one of the wires causing the entire electoral system to go dead. It took City Cycle just 2 days to get me back on the road. During that time they also performed a bunch of routine maintenance like an oil change and replacing the radiator fluid. Love this place! First off, (and probably least importantly), Adam (The owner) has complementary drinks in the refrigerator for anyone that wants it. This includes Starbucks Frapuccino drinks, sodas, water, orange juice etc. there's also an always stocked bowl of candy. I feel like I'm trick-or-treating every time I come and bring my bike in. In fact, last time I was in, I didn't want to leave. I just wanted to stay there and keep eating candy and drinking the free drinks. But the most important thing is that Adam is incredibly nice, honest, and very good. His prices are reasonable, and he does great work. So, you own a motorcycle, but it is not just any motorcycle. It's your baby. It's your pride and joy and even if others may think otherwise, it's apart of you. So when a tune-up or restore is called for it is hard to find the right guy who not only knows what he is doing, but will not ask you to bend over while you are giving him your credit card. Anyway, Joe who is a one stop shoe and owner. he is a straight shooter who does not waste his time if the work is not needed. he could have asked me to up grade my breaks, cables and others, but he gave me what i needed and told me what to think about next time. For a full 50K tune-up with valve adjustment other shops quoted me 600+, but Joe did it with a back break change for only 485. It is quick and goes over the whole bike. he also gives it a drive to see how the work was done and gives suggestions. ok, bottom line. You can find shops with nice locations, cool art on the wall and clean floors, but what matters is the work and the relationship you have with the mechanic. Joe is approachable and very helpful with you ride, upgrades and solutions to those problems you have. Though not the emotional ones. =)~ As for me, I was well taken care of after my 1988 K75s BMW was given a full tune up with valve adjustment for under 500 bucks. The next time I come in I am getting my shocks rebuild, plastics taken off and repainted all in one shot. Now that is what I call service Way to Go Joe! read more

Another repair needed, this time (2/6/15) a front wheel bearing needed replacement. Adam is always willing to help. The turnaround time is excellent, as are his prices. His shop is always open, the hours are more than convenient (he works some very, very long hours!) and his shop is clean. He clearly takes great pride in his workmanship. Adam is THE premier moto doctor. He's done my new buyer inspection, basic tune up and addressed all the things on my Ducati to make sure I was safe driving on the roads. I'm new to riding but have worked on cars for years. Adam showed me a few things I can do on my own and told me what tools I'd need if I wanted to take care of a few things on my own in the future. I just took my bike in for a follow up (by his suggestion, I sourced my own parts, which turned out to be dirt cheap) and brought it to him for installation. His closing time is 6:00PM but he was willing to take my bike in at 6:45PM for a drop off after calling in. As for all the negative reviews, keep in mind that he and his son run the entire shop. First time with a flat on my Vespa (LX150 - rear tire flat). Wasn't really sure where to take it so I called around, checked online. City Cycle Werkes was the most reasonable quote by far and the only place that could do same day turnaround - so I sent it in (Dave's Cycle Transport - $45) not only did Adam change the tire, he fixed two lights, changed the oil, tightened the brakes and cleaned the bike top to bottom. I suggested he check the front tire and to change it if needed (hadn't been changed in 2 years). I feel like most places would have taken the chance to upcharge, Adam was upfront and said the tire was good to go, no change needed. He also gave me sound advice on other scratches or fixes I was thinking of getting, walking me through the cost/benefit analysis compared to the bluebook value. I don't know anything about bikes, so the one thing I want at a shop is someone I can trust. Adam was just that, and cool af. Definitely recommended. read more
