The two guys that run that shop know everything about Harley Davidsons. I've never been turned away for repairs and when the jobs done, it's done with pride! My bike runs and looks great thanks to California Choppers.

Ron knows what he's doing! Took it in for a tune up and oil leak and some custom work.

The business is about as old school SF as you could hope for; an honest breath of fresh air. They are fair with their prices, deliver high quality work, and have always been kind and gone out of their way to finish repairs quickly and explain the process involved. Christina (hope I remembered her name correctly) is incredibly organized and communicative. On my last visit, Danny (one of the technicians) really went the extra mile on my behalf. I Do NOT recommend . First off I went in because I needed tires, I had a blow out in my rear tire and decided to just get both replaced. So, the tires were a little pricey and the labor charge was insane. But I value quality over price so I went for it. The tires are terrible (Michelin) it doesn't seem balanced and it just doesn't feel right. Usually with new tires I get this secure sensation when I ride ( not this time) Secondly, they were pitching me on other services that I found strange because I just had them done at a school with an instructor. Thirdly, on my way home, my storage box fell off my bike on the freeway, when I went back, they claimed they hadn't touched it, it was odd to me because, I ride everyday and had no issues. Lastly, instead of apologizing, I get a mechanic yelling at me saying i was at fault. When I asked to speak to the owner, I was told that he lives out of state. After all this mess I spent hours reading past reviews and found that others had similar experiences, but my biggest takeaway was how the owner/s replied to some of the commentators. I found it defensive, rude and never taking accountability, always deflecting the bad service or work they've done. Truth is truth, my review is based on my horrendous experience I had at this place of so called business.

I brought my vintage motorcycle in for three specific issues: to have the carburetor checked because it was coughing under load going uphill, small oil leak, and to have the rear tire replaced because it was slowly losing air. When I picked the bike up, I was told the work was complete after inspection. At no point was I told the clutch was worn out or that it needed replacement, nor was there any mention of it on my invoice. The very first ride home, I immediately noticed the motorcycle wasn't riding the same. Downshifting became difficult, the shifter would stick, and it became much harder to find neutral. None of these issues existed before the service. I reached out simply to understand what had changed. I asked whether the oil or any adjustments could be contributing to the difference. Rather than answering my questions, I was repeatedly told I needed a new clutch and to "learn how to live with it" because the bike is 45 years old. What concerns me is that the clutch only became an issue after I reported the bike wasn't operating the same. If the clutch was truly worn to the point that it required replacement whether cable or complete system, I would have expected that to be identified during the service, discussed with me when I picked up the motorcycle, and documented on my work order. It wasn't. As a woman, I left feeling dismissed rather than listened to. I wasn't accusing anyone of causing the problem, I was asking reasonable questions to understand why my motorcycle behaved differently immediately after the service. Instead of a professional discussion, I was met with defensive responses and told to accept it. I understand that vintage motorcycles require maintenance and that components wear out. What I expect from any reputable shop is clear communication, transparency about anything discovered during the inspection, and respectful treatment when a customer has legitimate concerns. It's disappointing because my first experience here earned my trust. Unfortunately, this second experience lost it.

Shortly after, my bike was still stalling. I called them back and spoke with the owner, Shawn, who wanted to make it right and personally came out to my place and kept my bike for a few weeks to try and replicate the situation. I brought my motorcycle in after a low-speed drop that left my steering feeling notchy. On top of that, they had no issue honoring my request to double-check the wheel bearings, front suspension, and rear wheel alignment. I've been riding scooters for 20 years in SF as my main transportation for work. 18 months ago I was referred to Moto Java because my scooter was about to die and I'd need a replacement soon. They appreciated I was an experienced rider, knew what I wanted and didn't try to oversell me on something I didn't want and gave me a fair price for my trade in. My previous scooter dealers/mechanics have given me a wide range of mileage for routine maintenance. Mike and Ben gave me an easy, clear number to remember so I bring my scooter in for routine maintenance based on the specific scooter I bought. Every time I call for an appointment Moto Java gets me in fast and finishes earlier than estimated. They also give me an itemized receipt of what was done and a heads up to what the next maintenance bill will cost so I'm not caught off guard. My review is based on my scooter that I bought from Moto Java. However I know they sell and service and sell a variety of motorcycles like long range highway motorcycles to mountain bikes to scooters. Moto Java is easily accessible off S Van Ness. Mike and Ben are always up for a chat about what they sell, no pressure sales and offer honest estimates about any repairs you might need. Definitely check out Moto Java.

Nini at the front desk was absolutely perfect for the job imo: compassionate, reassuring, and exactly what a first-timer needs before throwing a leg over a bike for the first time for real. Freddie and Henry were great too, really easy dudes to talk to and very helpful with sharing tips and other pointers for me. I'll be honest, I dropped the bike an equal number of times on both sides over the weekend, all at zero mph (embarassing af). Symmetrically bruised ego, perfectly balanced. Returning it felt intimidating, but the whole team handled it with zero judgment and genuine professionalism. I didn't try to hide anything and they made the whole process painless, albeit with some monetary penalties caused by my inexperience (I own up to this though). I'm leaving with my wallet lighter but with my heart genuinely fuller for the experience. The environment this shop creates for nervous beginners like me is genuinely rare, and it made me feel supported and motivated to come back and do better next time. Will absolutely be back for my next rental and keep getting ride time in, because real experience gained like I did is priceless. The human element of the shop is just cherry on top, and makes me feel good I'm supporting a local business. Shoutout to Nini, Freddie, and Henry. You made a squid feel welcome.
