Fried Catfish platter with fries & a side salad.

The food and service is amazing. And the food is delicious. I would recommend City Donuts & Cafe to everyone. They have a wide selection of food and donuts.

Can't believe they charged me .50 cent for extra butter on the bread.

I'm a proud New Orleanian, born and raised in the Uptown area, and today I decided to stop by City Donuts to try their fish breakfast. I had tried their donuts before and was curious about the rest of the menu. Unfortunately, what I experienced this Sunday morning was one of the worst customer service encounters I've had in a long time. From the moment I approached the counter, the interaction with the staff -- specifically Hulio and Dee -- was unpleasant. When I politely asked for their names and inquired about the type of fish being served (as I wanted to ensure it was real catfish), Dee became visibly upset and defensive. Instead of simply answering a reasonable question, they refused to give their names and acted as though I was out of line for caring about what I was eating. This is a serious red flag, especially in a city like New Orleans, where many residents have food allergies and where authenticity matters deeply. When I asked to speak with a manager or owner, I was told no one was available -- another troubling sign for any business that cares about accountability. Despite the attitude, I still placed my order and requested extra butter on the bread, something that should be a simple courtesy. Instead, I was charged for the extra butter, which is outrageous considering butter typically comes on toast by default. As any local knows, we take our food seriously -- especially catfish and bread -- and that small upcharge felt like a slap in the face. Then came the food. After waiting over 20 minutes, I received my order only to discover that the fish was not catfish at all. It was clearly swai, a much cheaper substitute. For anyone with dietary restrictions or allergies, this kind of dishonesty is not only misleading -- it's dangerous. On top of that, the food was cold, greasy, and poorly prepared. It was not worth the wait, the price, or the hassle. As someone who is a major content creator in New Orleans, who actively supports and promotes local businesses, I find it disturbing that a business operating in such a historic and culturally rich neighborhood would deliver such an unprofessional and disappointing experience. You never know who is walking into your establishment -- and more importantly, you owe your customers honesty and respect. I give this business a 1 out of 5 stars, and I do not recommend City Donuts Uptown to anyone looking for authentic food or respectful service. If you're going to do business in this city, do it with integrity -- or don't do it at all.

I didn't care for the donut sandwich I ordered. The sausage on it taste almost like it was going bad. I was very disappointed. The beignets however were great. The service was a bit timely for what I ordered but was made fresh. I didn't go in so not really sure what it's like inside.

Long hair in raw grits top right!

8am on a Sunday who is running this place. Liver and grits had a long hair in it and the grits were still raw. They gave me a doughnut that was as hard as a rock with old cracked glaze that was missing on 90% surface. I can almost forgive the hair but who in their right mind would serve that doughnut?

Don't buy chicken from this place! They use old chicken this is so gross I ordered the hot wing plate it's literally just Old fried chicken with a side of sauce! Under seasoned cooked and the chicken they use is not fresh!

    Piping hot glazed beignets

First time trying glazed beignets. They were pretty good. I still prefer powdered but these were delicious. Service was fast and friendly. The cafe was clean and neat. Coffee was just above lukewarm but not bad. They have a full menu and very reasonable prices. I will be back to try the regular menu and to have a glazed beignet from time to time

I mean the food I ordered was delicious. The service was awesome. He was patient while I decided. Inside dining is very 50's hamburger /soda shop.

I had never been a fan of donuts. Why would someone waste empty calories on fried dough that leaves your mouth feeling greasy? Give me a piping hot zeppole, give me seventeen cannoli, give me a baker's dozen of the 6 oz Levain walnut choc chip cookies, but donuts? I scoffed at them. But that's because they were far inferior donuts, and Citi Donuts is what made me realize that. The donuts here are so good, even when they're cold. That's the mindboggling part to me. They honestly don't even look that good. But wow. You want to do some inner work of fighting your biases, start here. I did, and here's my reward summary. The filled donuts here are unlike any other. I had never liked the fake-sugary jelly at big chains' donuts - the only thing you taste is the food coloring (I'm gagging as I type this) - but not at City Donuts. The jelly is real. The lemon actually has just the right amount of tartness and the raspberry is, ugh - my favorite, and so good. The honeybun (cinnamon roll looking thing) sounds so plain, but the outer parts that are more fried will prove you wrong. And if you haven't had the buttermilk drop - get one and heat it up for 10 seconds. Thank me later. Don't stop at the donuts, though. Their grits are another class. I've had $30-dollar shrimp and grits that taste inferior to theirs. These are $8.29. Sure, it doesn't have the depth of the bouillabaisse, but never has onion and bell pepper swimming in oil tasted so good. And the liver and grits - liver tends to scare some people but - they're good, and at $7.99, what have you got to lose other than faith in my reviews? I would put this place as a take-15-mins-to-visit spot when you're in NOLA. You're going to be walking around for hours listening to tour guides talk about history and ghosts anyway. (You absolutely must go to the WWII Museum, too, btw). Pop in and have some grits and pack yourself a snack for that tour. You'll go get beignets afterwards, but you won't regret having started here. And if you missed it in the morning - it's open 24 hours.

Dry ass donuts with no flavor. I do not recommend eating here unless you like bland donuts with no flavor.

There is no reason not to come here and make this place popular. I don't think many people know about it. I have been about three times and there are maybe 2 or 3 other people inside. YOU NEED TO CHECK THEM OUT! They have regular coffee too. But they do not have a huge food list, it is mainly beignets - which are delicious and they make fun shapes out them to be festive - like stars for example. But who needs food, when you have alcohol coffee?! The staff are always kind and helpful. If you want to change anything up, they are more than happy to. And they make the presentation just beautiful as well. It is a great place for pre gaming prior to a meal or post gaming after a meal. They are connected to 4141 and it can be a little confusing trying to find the entrance. The bathrooms are clean, there is a fun two seater table that has like a pac man game or something similar, and there are some leather chairs and couches to sit on. This place is great and you know I will be back!

The first drink I tried was excellent--a pumpkin spice latte with coconut or oat milk, I don't remember. The spices were on point and it was nice and frothy and perfectly sweet. It was also decaf and didn't even taste like it. The second drink I got, just last week, was a decaf pistachio and it was honestly horrendous. Worst cafe coffee I've bought in many a moon--and it was over 7 dollars for a small! It was burnt... noticeably so. Maybe no one buys enough decaf to warrant a fresh pot more than once a day, but please, for the love of God, don't serve it if the carbon has reached these levels. I couldn't even drink it. I took two sips and chucked it. Hopefully they'll eventually convince me, because it's such a cute spot and so close to home, but as of now I'm still luke warm about it.
