I had the pleasure of working with these guys for my move from La Puente to Chino. They had blankets for my delicates, boxes with hooks for my clothes, tons and tons of plastic wrap, wheels and Dolly's to move 4 bedrooms, a play room, reading room, kitchen and living room. And Garage! I requested 2 trucks and 5 guys to make sure that the job will be finished in 1 day. The leader was Ethan and he was the master of organizing the items into the trucks to avoid scrapping and collateral damage. Ethan called at 7:30am to make sure I'm home and arrived on time at 8am. They worked until 8pm unloading and assembling the bed-frames at my new home. Everyone was careful handling my things. I had white carpets and curtains so they washed their hands between trips to the trucks. I'm so thankful for their service. What it all comes down to is I paid City Movers a lot of money to ship my belongings from Southern Cali to Hawaii. I paid extra money to have the professionals pack specialty/fragile items and I tipped them generously to make sure it was worth their time. Unfortunately, a very expensive flat screen TV was destroyed during the transport. This was an item I had paid to be packed. It's only protection besides a cardboard box was a piece of crumpled brown paper in front of the screen. The box and TV had been completely punctured through. When we spoke with customer service they said they would normally refund me $20 dollars in compensation, but they would be generous and offer me $100 for a TV that cost me $1,300 dollars. I counter offered for $300 so I could at least buy some kind of new TV and they decided to give me no reimbursement at all and never respond back to me again. read more

I have moved many times with the military. This was my most recent move and first move after the military. The guys on the phone were nice. That is the best thing I can say about this experience. My move was from Honolulu to Philadelphia. I believe they subcontracted on both ends but I can't be sure. Anyway, the movers in Honolulu schedules too little time and too little people for the job so they shoes up late, didn't finish and had to come back another day when it was clear they were trying to squeeze me in between other clients. And thus, they were also rushing and not taking adequate time to properly wrap things- I didn't find this out until the other end when broken glass and stuff piled into boxes Willy nilly became apparent. I watched them try to make slides out of cardboard so they could avoid carrying my stuff down two flights of stairs and I watched boxes roll down that stairs. I was still hopeful though and I gave them good tips because I figured it was their bosses' fault for overbooking them etc. In Philadelphia at the destination, they refused to unpack things to find the pieces to put back together my two bed frames. For one set, they put the bed frame together wrong and I have to undo it and redo it myself. They also left the dresser and night tables wrapped and not placed. I cringe when I think about unwrapping them and what damage I will find because the ones they unwrapped for my other set are damaged and I can't open one drawer now. The other bed frame was left in pieces and not put together. The mattress for my king was left downstairs. They claimed they couldn't get it up (but didn't hesitate to tell my friend who was my proxy that they could come back later (for more cash I assume) and fold it or roll it to get it up there!). They didn't put the feet back on the sofa, didn't put back together my kids' easel, didn't put together the piano bench. It is the worst move ever. My stuff would have fared better if I had packed it myself so I don't know why I was paying for this "professional" service except I had no other option for an overseas move. When I call the company, they have very nice phone representatives who are empathetic and tell you the boss with call you back, but guess what!? He or she never does call back and you are left with all the work to do yourself that you paid them to do! And all the damages that need to be replaced. What a disappointment. I absolutely do not recommend this company. I am sorry I tipped these guys on both ends and I hope karma comes for them. It is unbelievable how little pride in work was displayed here. read more

Go somewhere else! Buyer beware of this shady company. They made the worse mistake any moving company can make: they NEVER showed up on my move day! The morning before my move they sent me a text message to confirm my move. I confirmed and they sent another text with a timeframe for the next day. The next morning rolls around. It has been a long couple days for me and my family preparing for the big day. I'm still rushing to get my final boxes packed and am somewhat relieved City Moving is 15 minutes late. Everything is finally ready and now they are 30 minutes late. I text the number from the day before asking for an ETA. No response. 5 minutes later I emailed James who was supposed to organize the move. No response after 10 mins. I try calling James from the phone number in his email, the phone number doesn't work. I email Andre, the salesperson and CC James asking for an ETA. No response. Over the next 10 minutes I dial City Moving and try every phone number option their automated system has to get a person on the line. Almost every extension goes to voicemail. Do you know how it feels to be ghosted by your moving company on moving day? Finally I dial the number for sales and get a lady on the line. She begins looking into the issue, takes about 5 minutes and then Andre calls me. The excuse I was given would be laughable if I wasn't in such a bad situation. Their excuse was that they wanted to make a change to my order (They could have done this during the weeks my order had been scheduled) They tried dialing my cell phone and couldn't reach me. They claim my cell phone said it was disconnected. Of course I had no missed calls or voicemails from them. I made 8 calls that day and other people called me, so it wasn't my phones problem. Hey, what about email? Like we've been using for WEEKS to schedule my move. What about a text? Like they texted that same morning to confirm my move. Their answer: "oh, yeah, good point. Well we were busy and didn't think about it." So they canceled my move without ever talking to me. I argued with Andre for about an hour, wasting precious time when I should have been looking for competent movers instead. Do you know how hard it is to find a moving company the same day you need to move and you have only started searching at 2 PM? Worst moving experience of my life. No apology from City Moving. And when they can you'll get a text, not a call, a text giving you the time frame. Usually less than a days notice. I mean most of us work and can't make these times. Finally, I get an email saying that I have to pay a storage fee because they can't deliver my stuff in the time frame. We had a terrible experience with this company. On the morning of the move, the movers walked the whole house and told us everything would fit into that truck. Fast forward 4 hours later, they tell us everything won't fit including some larger pieces of furniture. We called their boss and were told we should rent a U-Haul and take the rest of it ourselves or put things in our car and take them. I wonder why we hired movers then? At least tell us everything won't fit when you do your initial survey so we can tell you what absolutely HAS to go. After much haggling, they decided to send 2 guys another day for a "discounted rate." As far as the actual move, it started with their wardrobe boxes...half of which smelled of the strongest cigarette smoke and another box which was broken. Even the movers were embarrassed by the smell and the shape these wardrobe boxes were in. One was so bad they had to leave it at our house so the next guys could haul it away as junk. The guys were nice but got to our destination half an hour after us and said they couldn't find the place, only to later tell us they needed a coffee break so they made a stop while we waited outside at our destination in the sweltering heat trying to flag them down. Lastly, they don't seem to have an actual office. We played phone tag during the whole debacle. We have used other moving companies in the past and this was our worst experience. Update: We got a Yelp comment from the company that they would look into what happened a month after we already moved. They said they would research what happened and get back to us shortly. Now 2 weeks have gone by since that and still no updates on what happened. If I could give them less than a 1 star I would simply for lying to us about researching what happened. read more

I submitted a request for an estimate using the yelp messaging system where it sends a quote request to a number of businesses and City Movers were the only ones not only to text me back which was my preferred communication but responded very quickly and worked with me to get me a quote instantly and it was so simple working with them. Other companies responded but not as quickly and proficiently. I worked with Jane at the home office and my mover was Max and his assistant. Jane was awesome to work with and kept me up to date with all the moving parts. She was a pleasure to work with! Max and his coworker did an excellent and clean job with the move. Very friendly, all smiles and I was very impressed with the service. They were quick too, the full move took under 2 hours. I would highly recommend working with this company on your next move and I'll be using them again in the future myself. Also, their price was the best I found in the industry. Not once but twice this company has run late when I'm on a time crunch. The only reason I used them a second time was because I didn't feel fielding more quotes for movers. Move 1, 2/17/18: quoted 2-5pm. They arrived at 6:45. My storage unit closed at 6:30 (hence why needing them again). All I got was some apologies. Really? No discount? No partial refund? What a joke. My only consolation was that the gentlemen who moved me were very courteous and fast (hence this review getting 2 Stars instead of 1). Move 2, 2/20/18: quoted 9-10am. Arrived at 11am. Will add to this when I see the results as I am writing this as they arrive. I was offered a whole $10/hr off for this move, which is a pathetic pittance for all of this major time inconvenience. These guys showed up to move our one bedroom house with a tiny uhaul truck! When they realized it wasn't possible they tried to move the move to the next day! We had booked the move a month in advance and couldn't cancel our move. It took my wife yelling at them to actually make it happen much later in the day. They sent out new guys with a new truck, no discount or anything. The new guys were great but it was such an inconvenience. We didn't get moved out until 3 Update: so they tried to make it right. They called me based on this review and offered to give us a refund. Very nice, they sent us a check for $100, even though we spent a good $800 to move, but whatever that was nice. So, stupid me, I washed the check in the washer and it was ruined. I called to get a replacement check and he said he would but that was three weeks ago and nothing. When it was time to bring my stuff from storage the delivery company said we can't deliver since 1. Apt. complex doesn't have open parking space for the ReloCube/POD to be parked. 2. Apt. complex has under ground parking entrance of which does not have clearance of 14 ft. (my apt. complex has approx. 8 ft. clearance) 3. Mainly City of LA does not allow parking of ReloCube/POD on the street. Its illegal. I mentioned everything above just so that its documented somewhere and if someone searches for something similar it might help. So, delivery service recommended to bring a UHaul and move stuff from ReloCube at their terminal into the UHaul. And then move stuff from UHaul to my apt. Review: ====== This is when I contacted this guys. I called them a day before I wanted to move stuff. They were able to accommodate me. Jane at the office was very helpful in coordinating my move. Even the manual movers called me early morning on the day of move to confirm the move. 2 hours after confirming, I had to re-schedule the move by couple of hours. They accommodated this request too. 2 Guys (Sergey and Vladamir) came with a truck before time at the place of pick up. They were professional and quick at work. Moving stuff from ReloCube to their truck (30 mins) + Almost 40 mins of drive + moving stuff from street to the end of the garage and up to 2nd floor (1 hr) cost me 3.75 hr worth of money @ $85/hr. Setting up the appointment went well. Then on moving day it went way down hill. The movers showed up late and were very slow and tired because they told me they worked overnight and were awake for 30+ hours. I moved from a very easy address yet they were lost. When they called for more specific directions the guy was rude while I explained the directions. I ended up having to go find them; this is unacceptable since they should have GPS. After an extended period of time packing (they were slow) we were finally packed. When we arrived to unload my items I watched them incorrectly lift my very expensive television console and broke the leg. They had no remorse. Then I noticed my brand new bed frame looked like it had been dragged over concrete. The finished is damaged beyond repair. I immediately called Alex, who I spoke with to reserve my move. He said he would email me information to make a damage claim. After not hearing from him, I emailed and did not receive a response. This is bad business. City movers, how will you rectify this issue? Update: John personally reached out in regards to this manner and was very respectful and willing to work with me to get a resolution. For this reason I will update my review to 3 stars. I've used "professional" movers three times in the past five years... the first two times left me underwhelmed. So, I looked to Yelp for a company with great reviews and found City Movers. John came out for the estimate and really took time to pay attention to my needs and provide an accurate estimate. I stressed that I was unhappy with my previous moves where I had been quoted a price only to be billed for a higher amount afterwards with lame excuses and I'll say that the total amount I paid was UNDER what John estimated!! What a wonderful surprise. I'll say that I had another company with high Yelp ratings give me a competing estimate and John's estimate was less than half of what they quoted. On move day, Mark came out with his team. The Jersey boys showed up to work and work hard, they did. I had 52 stairs up to my house and the Mark got all of my furniture and boxes out in great time without damaging anything. The move was grueling due to the size of my house, amount of stuff that I had, and those stairs, but these guys worked their asses off without complaining or taking breaks. VERY IMPRESSIVE! John and Mark went above and beyond, even coming back out to help me move extra large items from my garage to storage. I cannot be happier with their service and cannot stress what a completely different experience I had with City Movers compared to other movers in the past. After my first two moves, I had resigned to the thought that moving companies are all slimy and want to get you with the bait and switch tactics of charging more when the work is done. Worst experience so far using them to move from Honolulu to New Mexico with both furniture and cars. Car paperwork was not ready when we went to drop them off to ship in Honolulu. They neglected to put our names to pick them up in Long Beach. Resulted in hours at the port on calls to pick up our own cars! They promised to waive storage fees for our cars due to issues with drop off. Didn't do it. Suddenly wasn't able to. Finding good movers in Los Angeles is surprisingly hard, so I'm relieved I found these guys! My wife and I didn't need to move far (from Glendale to Burbank). But we have a LOT of antiques and heirlooms that have been in the family for over a hundred years, so we needed a moving company that was professional and experienced, not just some dudes off the street. We mostly we worried about packing. If you ever dealt with antiques, you would want to pack them as you would for long distance moving, regardless of the distance. You would know how expensive packing part of the moving process is. This company turned out be perfect. In fact, even more professional than we expected and they did not gauge the prices. In fact, our total for a finished job, was about 25% less than the lowest estimate we got from others!   When we first called them, I was surprised by how friendly the agent was. We had called a few other moving companies in the area, and all of them were quite rude or gauged their rates! They acted like I bothering them just for calling. (How do those places stay in business??) This agent was very sweet. He answered all our questions and he seemed genuinely THANKFUL for our business (imagine that!). We asked a lot things, just to make sure they were the right fit. The guy stayed on the phone with me for a good 20 minutes, and didn't rush me off.   The call went so well, I was almost skeptical the move itself would be as good. I assumed the movers themselves wouldn't be as nice, but I was wrong again - they were great! They showed up on time, very professional and courteous the whole day ("Thank you, sir. Yes, maam." The whole nine yards.) They were extremely careful with moving antiques out of our condo and into the truck. And everything was carefully loaded into our new condo in Burbank the same day. I had no idea how someone moves from Colorado to Hawaii, so I googled it and got a few calls back, but George from City Moving seemed the most confident to me that he knew what he was talking about, so I decided to go with him and this company. George and Mike were extremely helpful throughout this whole stressful ordeal. Importantly, they were always reachable and answered the phone when I called--which was often! They helped me get two cars to Honolulu also. I hired people from the Aspen area to get my household belongings to LA where they were stored with City Moving, all arranged by George, so I never saw my stuff from the time it left Aspen until it arrived here in Honolulu--everything in good shape, nothing damaged. I had conversations with other City Moving people along the way who were part of the shipping/moving process, all competent and helpful. DISHONEST AND SHADY COMPANY - STAY AWAY!!! I feel compelled to write a review not only because our experience was so disappointing but because we had used this company for a prior move exactly 2 years ago and had a very pleasant experience, so I don't understand what went wrong - new owner perhaps. The 3 movers showed up to our home. They had no moving boxes even though I confirmed several times with Jane they would have all the necessary materials. Our entire home was packed up and clearly labeled except for our kitchen which I asked the movers to pack. They were slow moving, inefficient and didn't have a game plan. While the men were nice enough, two of the gentlemen didn't speak English which made it impossible to communicate with them about items that needed to be moved and they were also unable to read the clearly marked labels on our boxes, adding on unnecessary time explaining things via the foreman. They left our house for an hour to go get more boxes, putting us further behind in the day. I hate to say it but I truly believe they were moving slowly on purpose since they knew we were paying them by the hour. We had a 2 bedroom house; one king bed frame and mattress, sofa, credenza, 2 dressers, an elliptical and a dining room table, no appliances. It took 3 people 13 HOURS TO MOVE OUR HOUSE! That is how long it should take to move a family from a 5 bedroom home, and that's even pushing it. These guys were banging our fragile boxes around. I saw several containers marked fragile be dropped near the truck outside. They were bouncing fragile items down the stairs in a dolly. I even had to go up to the foreman and explain that if items were to be put on the dolly, two of the men needed to carry the dolly downstairs so it didn't bang against the steps. Why am I telling movers how to do their job??? Because they were moving so slowly, my husband and I ended up carrying boxes and other items out ourselves to speed up the process. Then it came time to move the elliptical. They said they couldn't get it through the door but were unwilling to even try. They were CERTAIN it would not fit. They tried to disassemble some of it but couldn't figure out how to do that even though I left them the manual and the special tools that came with the machine. After an hour and half of doing nothing productive, they told me they couldn't move it and it had to be left behind. THE BEST PART OF THIS STORY is that two days later I was forced to hire another moving company to attempt to remove the elliptical and 2 MOVERS CARRIED IT OUT OF THE ROOM AND DOWN THE STAIRS WITHOUT TAKING IT APART IN ABOUT 20 MINUTES. That, of course, cost me an extra $230. Moreover, when City Movers arrived at our new house and began unloading, they broke my dresser leg, picture frames, plants, and kitchen items. They also scratched our hardwood floors. The owner came to fix the dresser the next day but it couldn't be repaired to its' original state and the leg they broke off was put back on in a different location. The owner who showed up with the foreman was rude and when I explained to him how dissatisfied with my experience I was he didn't care and left behind a $100 bill. The 13-hour move cost me $1500, which is INSANE for a 2 bedroom home. INSANE!!!! I've spent the last MONTH reaching out to Jane and explaining to her that we wanted a refund for the extra moving expense we had by hiring a second company to move the elliptical ($230) and I wanted to be reimbursed for the cost of wasted time the movers spent "trying to take the elliptical apart", ($180), for a total of $410. This seemed like a beyond fair agreement and the least they could do. Jane, of course, stopped getting back to me, saying she was speaking to her boss and would let me know. The fact that the owner of this company or the manager has not reached out to us after our multiple attempts to connect with him is beyond me. They agreed to refund us for the $230 for the second company we had to hire. This is truly the bare minimum they could do. Getting this refund is another story. Jane said it would be put back on our cc April 1, when this didn't happen I reached out and she said they only do refunds in cash and in person (shady). So we scheduled a time. Of course, NO ONE SHOWED UP. I called and texted and the owner finally showed up an hour and a half later. Didn't even apologize for being late. This company doesn't value its customers and does not care about how your experience is. They just want to move slowly, charge you for as many hours as possible and be on their way. I don't write many reviews on Yelp unless I truly feel strongly one way or the other about the company. And I feel strongly about staying away from City Movers. read more

I finally received my items on Saturday, November 11 - SIX WEEKS after they had been picked up on September 30. Since my yelp review (and also a formal claim that I submitted later that week), I received an apology for the incorrect delivery estimate that I received from Alex, the salesperson. I was given a greater discount for my move. I considered raising my rating of the company based on this customer service, however since that point, I had further challenges finding out an exact delivery estimate and was disappointed in how my furniture was delivered. I was told that my things would be delivered by the end of the week (by November 4), however on Friday, November 3 I was told that my things were in Chicago and that I would be the next delivery. That Sunday, I was told there was an update from the driver and my things would be delivered on Tuesday, November 7 - but apparently City Movers was unable to contact the driver again until on that Tuesday when I was informed that my items were in New York and that my things should get to me by Thursday - something happened with the driver and he was replaced. I tried to find out more information but didn't hear anything until Friday evening when the driver told me he'd be coming the next morning - Saturday, November 11 at 8am (6 weeks after it had been picked up!) I'm not sure why it took over a week for my things to get delivered from Chicago, which is a 14 hour drive away! I also don't know why there was lost communication with the driver. Other than those few updates I received, it was impossible to find out where my things were and when they would actually be delivered. Days went by that City Movers did not know where my things were!!! The delivery on Saturday morning was stressful. The driver had no record that of the discount and refused to give me my things until I was able to get a hold of John and he was able to clear things up. I will say that John was extremely helpful in clarifying the situation even though this happened at 5am Saturday morning his time zone. I was also confused that my items were delivered by another company (I think the driver said it was Lighthouse) as Alex had told me that City Movers never subcontract. I was told that my belongings would be possession of City movers at all times. When I asked the driver for a business card or any information about the moving company, he was unable to do so. The driver had no record of our inventory and asked me for a copy of our inventory list!!! That is a bit concerning that our inventory list seemed to have gotten lost in our move. Luckily, I still had the copy that was given to me at pick up and the driver used that list - but then he needed to take it with him! Luckily, all boxes and furniture were delivered. However, the movers had some challenges reassembling the furniture as it seemed that disassembly had been a rush job during pick up. There were a number of screws that were stripped or jammed in and there was also a screw missing. In fact there was a metal piece that fell off our bed as soon as I laid down. We had some damage to our belongings. The corner of our kitchen table was damaged - it seems to have gotten smashed in the move and our living room table now has a scratch. Also, the glass door of our new toaster oven was completely shattered - and is now unusable. Lastly, I'm extremely confused and upset by the treatment of my mattress. Prior to the pick up movers coming (in LA), we had put the mattress into a mattress cover and zipped it closed. When the movers took it from our apartment, they had simply carried it out as it was - in the mattress cover. However, when it arrived, it was all folded up in tape - and no mattress cover! The movers that did our delivery said they had never seen a mattress rolled up before, and I can see why - once unfolded, our mattress was lumpy!!! I do not understand why the mattress cover was removed (it had to be unzipped!) during transit and why the mattress was all rolled up! Luckily, the mattress pad was still on the mattress, otherwise the dirt and grime that ended up on the mattress pad would have also damaged our mattress!! I have submitted another formal claim to the moving company regarding the damage of my furniture, but have yet to hear back. read more

I wanted to take the time to give and update on our situation and acknowledge the fact that we finally were able to get into contact with the GM John who took the time to listen and address our issues with the situation we were in. We really appreciated his much needed help and in the end made us feel like a valued customer. We are happy to report our stuff had now been returned to us. read more

If you are thinking of using this company our experience has been the worst ever possible. They managed to loose over half of our 5 bedroom house of furniture while they were storing it and now 120 days after submitting a fair claim their Claims department is not answering any of our emails and will not take any phone calls. Even their own Customer Service department can't connect us to the Claims department. read more

Movers were quick and efficient, yet careful not to damage walls and furniture. Overall good experience.

I fractured my arm the day before and these guys were great going above and beyond every step of the way to get the last of my items packed and moved without me having to be involved. They even helped pack the back of my car with items I was storing somewhere else. Everything was safely packaged, broken down, and put back together. read more

We diligently researched a lot of Los Angeles movers and ultimately chose this moving company for a few reasons: 1) good prices 2) all the positive Yelp reviews 3) Private Storage facility available. 4) Alex - the sales guy, who explained upcoming charges in details 5) Insurance certificate for both buildings. Moving day: no complaints there either. I was moving out of an apartment in Santa Monica into my boyfriend's condo in Los Angeles downtown (Da Vinci). Quick note: my BF called other movers in LA, and they were all kinda expensive, with rates of like 129$ for 3 movers. City Movers was highly rated and you could tell their site was legit, with licensing info clearly shown and links to their yelp profiles and their locations. The move went great. I think it took about 4 hours for the movers to pack everything into the truck, it was definitely before noon. It's about a 1 hour drive to LA downtown that time of a day. Once we got there, unloading was FAST. I want to say maybe 2 hours tops, and they moved all the boxes and furniture into the right rooms. I ended up needing to put some stuff in storage because my BF said there wasn't enough room. But that worked out good too because this company has its own storage facility nearby too. All in all, it was a really smooth move and went just as expected. I would definitely hire these movers again. read more

Mark and his crew just finished my move in North Hollywood. They are amazing. Fortunately or unfortunately I have moved many times. LA to Nashville, Nashville to LA, west side to valley, and now valley to Valley. This was the smoothest process ever. They were so professional. Very fast and efficient. They definitely didn't milk the lock. They were very careful. I had many delicate items and nothing got damaged. I would definitely be recommending them to everyone I know.
