One of my favorite lunch spots. Consistently good food, large portions at fair prices. Even when they are slammed, which they do get pretty busy, the service is always great. My favorite appetizer is the buffalo shrimp. The shrimps are HUGE! I love seeing their specials and ordering from there but my go to lunch meal is the mahi sandwich. It's unbelievable how fresh the food tastes and how large the portion is for the price cheaper than a fast food joint. Please be aware of the menu prices as they're not real. We ordered a bottle of wine that was $59 on the menu and once we got the bill we were charged $100. We brought this up to the manager who absolutely did not take responsibility for their mistake, apologized or offered any resolution to this issue. To make things worse, the waitress told us before leaving that this issue happens often so basically management is lying and taking advantage of the customers with false advertisement. Shame on you. What goes around comes around. No doubt I will never go back or recommend this place to anyone. We were never here before but had a dr appointment nearby, so we thought we'd give it a try. I personally love any establishment that has beer, wine, liquor, a regular food menu AND a sushi menu. Best of both worlds to accommodate my husband and me. He wouldn't eat raw fish to save his life so often I go for mine without him. He ordered the "Soprano". It was large and filling and he liked it. The chicken was not dry or overcooked, (a deal breaker) and the toppings were really fresh. I got the "Refreshing Roll". It's a riceless roll (my preference always) that has tuna, salmon, white fish, imitation kani, avocado, scallion & masago. It was good, but it's important to note that if you're really hungry, this option alone might not fill you up. The roll pieces, albeit 12 of them, are kinda small. I uploaded a pic with chopsticks included to try to give you a better sense. Did I regret my choice? No, not at all. It was pricey IMO for what I got though, but at least it was good. Didn't care for the ponzu sauce that accompanied it so I asked for kimchee sauce instead and was charged an additional $1 for it. In all fairness, I looked again, and they did disclose this on their menu, I'm just not used to this kind of charge is all. Decided to try CJ Blacks after hearing good things about it. Got there about 430 to a small crowd forming. Sat at the bar a little bit before bartender made his way to me. He felt bad and bought me my first drink. I ordered pretzel and fried pickles while waiting for a friend. I was not disappointed it was delicious. Also shared a crab and shrimp Cobb salad when my friend arrived. It was ok. The collection of food was odd as they had wings and sushi and seemed like a bbq joint. I have not provided a 1 Star review in a while and really hate doing so. I stalked everyone's reviews since this place opened and stayed away. The only reason we visited this particular Saturday was because my best friend came earlier in the day and said she had the best burger ever. She has never steered me wrong and she is actually the one who showed me everything I needed to know when I moved to FL. We came late on a Saturday but the restaurant was still busy considering the time. We decided to sit at the bar and attempted to sit at the bar right next to the hostess station. We were then told that bar was closed and the other bar was still open. Okay, why didn't the hostess tell us that? I didn't even know there was a second bar. Anyway, we head to the bar in the back. We sit and wait. And waited. And waited some more. Listen, I am cool with waiting to be attended to but if you are busy; not carrying on an irrelevant conversation with a customer. I know we have either done this ourselves or have experienced this: you say excuse me, assist the new customer, then go back to your conversation. Nope. Finally, I was about to get up and leave but hubby wanted to stay. The bartender decided to grace us and provide us menus. We ordered our beers and reviewed the menu. We both decided on burgers since that is what my friend recommended. While we were waiting on our food, another employee was behind the bar talking with us. He was very pleasant and attentive. He inquired if this was our first time visiting and I said yes because I never saw a good review on Yelp here lol. He went on to explain how they experienced a lot of problems when they opened and everything did not go as planned. I appreciated his honesty instead of trying to defend and cover it up. Our food finally arrived. I took one bite and I was grossed out. It tasted like straight up charcoal. The bleu cheese was crappy quality. Hubby enjoyed his so I guess he didn't have a bad time. I order my burgers medium/medium well with very little pink. This was super well done, gross. Now I was really itching to leave. I had my card out in preparation that we may get our check this decade. The prices were ridiculous. We paid $60 for crap. The lady who took us out to the table was oblivious; she was dropping silverware everywhere and kind of just ignored it. We asked for new ones though. I had a nice time at CJ Blacks. Everyone raves about the pretzel. It was great, comes in a box that looks like a pizza box!! Who ordered pizza I thought LOL. We were a large group of about 15 and sat outside. Our waiter was able to take our orders and handle separate checks. The food came out quickly for a Saturday night. It looked very spacious inside and there is plenty of parking. I had the bison burger. All the items on the menu look amazing. I think this restaurant has a little identity crisis under the roof. They are kindof a sports bar, kindof a live music venue, and kindof a sushi restaurant. Individually they would be better but I found nothing special about this place. The sushi was good but personally, if I am going to pay for overpriced fish, I want to be at a sushi restaurant. If I want a sports bar, they have an elevated sports bar menu. I went with family for the live music, some good food and to see some live music. I called a week ahead to see about a reservation and was told they take no reservations but that we should arrive before 6pm to get a bar area high top table for 4 adults. To leave nothing to chance, we arrived at 5pm to find that all of the tabled both standard and high top ALL had Reserved signs on them. A bit annoyed I asked the hostess and she said that the tables were all reserved and didn't seem to explain how we couldn't reserve our table. Needless to say, I knew this review was going to be critical to earn back some stars. Our server Angel was wonderful and if it weren't for her great service, I think we might have walked out. The sushi menu is huge and was hard to choose a few rolls but we were pleased. The Refreshing Roll with no rice was very good and the Spicy Tuna Lover Roll was tasty with the slice of jalapeño on top. The Gyoza was ordered steamed and bot fried which is not advertised on the menu but an option. The baby back ribs were truly fall off the bone and the Turkey burger was seasoned well but a bit pricy for a basic turkey burger. The wings were big but they too were pretty basic that were nothing special. The big miss on the menu is the Filet Sliders for $15 considering that they were overcooked baby burgers and not any filet at all. Don't waste money on those. The kitchen was pretty slow considering that 80% of the tables were reserved with noone sitting at them. Thankfully the bar was pretty quick and our server was working hard. I can't recommend this place because there is just no Wow factor for the prices and horrible hostesses/management. Good luck! read more

When I moved north from Parkland I missed my regular visits to Lefty's in Coral Springs and always wanted to try out the newer CJ Blacks but was never in the neighborhood. My daughter will be living 5 minutes from here and now I am happy to say that I will become a regular. I love the rustic decor from the moment we walked in. There are 2 bar areas, one geared more for wine and the other for bourbon, and in the middle their is a sushi bar area. Alana explained the changes they had made and we were seated and given "Rock star" service from David Scully!!! We didn't know what to order as many of our favorites from Leftys were on the menu. You could never go wrong with the salads, hamburgers, and wings. We started with a spinach and artichoke dip which was great. Alana recommended the steak tataki and I really enjoyed it. The brussel sprouts were also really delish. My hubby and daughter got the In and out Burger which they both enjoyed. Her boyfriend got hot garlic parmesan wings which he loved. They decided they will be back a lot because the food is great and they can watch soccer games. Mac n cheese was a little oily but still good. We were seated in the outdoor patio quickly and our server was attentive and very friendly. The chowder was tasty and had lots of clam in it! After a movie, my wife & I decided to try out CJ Blacks. It was a Friday evening and we were seated in a packed house, diners were talking, almost shouting over each other, along with a live band, plus happy hour was going on. The restaurant was loud. I'm not sure if the kitchen was open to the dining area as a lot was going on. I ordered the CJ Blacks Burger, One Pound Burger topped with American Cheese, Bacon, Lettuce, Tomato & Pickle. My wife ordered the CJ Blacks Mona Lisa Breaded Chicken Cutlet with Roasted Peppers, Fresh Mozzarella, Arugula, Pesto on Toasted Ciabatta. We both enjoyed our Burger & Sandwich. The fries were cooked fresh and had a great flavor (love my fries!). Next time we go I will be sure to ask the server for a second napkin when placing my order. Eating a one pounder burger is hard to eat with just one napkin. Like I said, the restaurant was busy, and loud, it wasn't easy to get the servers attention as they flew by the tables. All in all it was a good meal, with good people, all the diners were having a good time, it was a good time! We will be back to explore and try new items on CJ Black's varied menu. read more

I have been here a few more times since my original review, and CJ Blacks really seems to have it together now. I recently went and dined at the closed in bar room. It was a Sunday night and the place was really busy. Our bartender/server Dylan really knew the menu well & he was happy to help us out. He was also very friendly & personable. We had the Brussel sprouts appetizer & it was delicious! It actually filled us up so that all 3 members is my party could not finish their actual dinners. I had the filet sliders which were pretty good. My mom had the French dip, and not only was it good....it was a huge portion. This restaurant is really close to my house ; and I'm glad their customer service has improved, because I plan on going back and trying many more menu items! read more

I've been wanting to come here and finally got the chance on a Friday night. It was around 6 pm and pretty busy. There was a 20 min wait for a table or the option of sitting outside or a high top. We didn't want to sit outside because their outdoor seating was on the west side of the restaurant and thought that it would be too hot with the sun setting so we opted for the high top. What we didn't know is that when you sit at a high top, it's like a communal table. If you don't have 8 people in your party, you will have other people sitting with you. Luckily the table we were at had a partition so there was "some" type of protection. Not all the high tops have the plastic partition. I think the next time we'll wait for a booth or table. Now on to the good stuff... the food is AMAZING and the portions are HUGE! We ordered the 1.5 lb pretzel as an app. I know that the key word was "1.5 lb" but we didn't realize how big it actually was! They serve it to you in a small sized pizza box which is perfect because you can just fold the top over and it's ready to go home with you. We were getting pretty stuffed from just the pretzel and decided before we got our meals, that we would ask for take out boxes to pack half our meal before digging in. When they brought out our meals we were glad we asked for boxes because there was A LOT of food! I ordered the Mona Lisa which is sandwich with breaded chicken cutlet, roasted red peppers, fresh mozzarella, arugula & balsamic vinaigrette. The cutlet was so moist! I loved the flavor with the balsamic vinaigrette! Half a sandwich was the length of a hand and pretty much a full meal! My husband got the Key West blackened grouper and also loved his meal. The only reason for the 4 star vs 5 star is because of the close proximity of other parties at the high tops. My coworker and I came to CJ Blacks for a quick lunch after work. My coworker highly recommended we try this place because she enjoyed it the last time she came with her family. When we came in, we were promptly greeted and taken to our table. We chose to sit outside due to the nice weather. The restaurant has a cute antique rustic decorum which complemented them well. Plus they had a multitude of nice Christmas decorations all over. Our waitress was Nicole was very kind and nice, and gave some great suggestions we should try. We ordered the margarita and CJ Spiked Tea as our drinks, and the drinks were on point; nice and strong! Then we ordered from their lunch menu which had some good prices. My coworker ordered the palomilla steak sandwich which was huge and tender. I ordered the teriyaki salmon bowl which was very flavorful and packed with a lot of veggies. I also wanted to try from their sushi menu, so I ordered the American Dream roll which came with shrimp tempura, cucumber, and conch which I loved! What can you say the place is primed for excellence yet in the end under delivered would be an under statement. Looking for a new venue for our Wednesday night crew its 6 of us traveling out to the much hyped CJ Blacks on SR 84 in a big strip mall in Davie. Plenty of free parking, large outside dining area which we considered until the cigarette smoke was too much so in the end we got a secure table in the corner. We were provided paper menus, drink menus, special menus and our server who with his mask on and his accent think he was from England I could not understand a single word he said the entire dinner. Asked some questions about the wine and he didn't even know if it was white or red so we abandoned that idea, as it was obvious he was very new or just in the weeds. I'll go with in the weeds. We started with some appetizers: Must have been on the special menu Two orders of bang bang shrimp in their special sauce. Size of shrimp u-15 sauce good, shrimp fishy UGH 1lB Giant pretzel with marinara sauce & beer cheese sauce for dipping. Where is the mustard? Decent pretzel but they put so mush salt on it that if I had high blood pressure I'd be running for the pills. French onion soup was big hearty dish and tasty one of the best things on the menu. 4 Cheese flatbread pizza was a complete waste of time, as it was tasteless and flabby. ---- Entrees: We try to keep it simple 3 1B Burgers I don't think anyone read it was a 1lb burger just the "CJBLACKS" burger.. Massive pieces of meat that were of good quality meet unfortunately they were dry and tasteless, the squeezed every ounce of taste and grease out of them. Fries were hot and fresh. BBQ ribs massive size rack of ribs without question fall off the bone Good. Top shelf best thing served all night, with sweet potato fries on side also excellent. A chopped wedged salad with blackened shrimp would have been really good has they left off the once again very fishy shrimp Last but not least always seems to be me but I went for the CJ Black smoked brisket with BBQ sauce sandwich. Served ICE F****** COLD I mean not even lukewarm What the heck is going on here. Took 10 minutes to find the waiter by this time I had eaten half of one of the 1lb burgers. I sent it back do you know the in the weed waiter didn't even have the courtesy to see if I wanted anything else, nor did he come back nor did a manager come back to apologize NOTHING! As this point we have had enough, and I can assure you that our 6 to 10 party every Wednesday night will not be visiting here again... Not thanks much better options. read more

Ok so here goes! I have reviewed this place 2 other times and it was atrocious. However I'm not one to give up so I tried it a third time. Let's start off with it was an amazing experience all because of our server DANNY! He was on top of everything. We didn't have to wait for anything but he was not intrusive either. You could tell he was happy to be there and meticulously took our orders. I explain to him that the other two times I was there I had ordered the beyond burger but the first time received a real hamburger and the second time received a black bean burger. He told me not to worry he would make sure I got the right burger this time. My fingers were crossed but didn't think I would get the right burger in a million years! All the food came out fairly quickly and everything was 100% correct, fresh and tasty. Danny changed the whole experience and now I will definitely go back and can recommend you go to! We had a great 1st experience here last Friday night with some friends! Our table got the buffalo shrimp and a Mexican sushi roll to start. (Yes they have sushi!) Both were delicious. I had the Key West Grouper sandwich which I liked a lot. Fish tasted good, bun was soft and fresh. Everyone else's had the steak salad(really good), ribs (flavorful, but not fall off the bone) and chicken wings (a little over cooked but he still enjoyed them). OK well I showed up here at CJ Blacks at about 10:30 PM. I was famished. I proceeded to the bar bartender I was already engaged with two other customers for 15 minutes and discussion. Finally I got her attention. She came over, gave me a menu and asked me when I'm drinking. I told her a Coke she brought that right away then I proceeded to order cucumber, salad, French onion, soup and the French tip, which is made with prime rib shrimp with Ajou first thing that showed up the soap absolutely delicious second thing, cucumber salad I think they just made it and put it out prematurely zero taste at the French dip which somebody put on a grill chopped it up like it's a Philly steak absolutely killed the prime rib because it was toast That was horrible. Don't tell people you're gonna give them prime rib on a sandwich and serve it well done beyond weight well done very disappointing and now I'm $50 less in my life for horrible bougie one star for CJ Blacks. read more
