It was happy hour; we ordered drinks and the happy hour specials food specials, which included oysters. We liked it, the food was good, reasonably priced, and the bartender was good at his job. This was a last minute decision to stop. Downtown Manassas has been impacted by Covid but has not been stopped. The local restaurants have bounced back and upped their game with great local beer/IPA and great seasonal dishes. CJ Finns is no different, great specials all week, amazing raw bar options, if seafood us your thing you need to stop here. My family has been coming here since its opening and always raved about the food. So much that my 80 year old mom had requested for Mothers Day. Unfortunately there was a bit of a mess up on our order and we ended up, after waiting real long time to pick up, having to cancel. Around 1030 last night we had received call from the owner apologizing and wanting to do right thing! Something that far and few businesses today forget to do. I am not someone that ever reviews restaurants but felt awe inspired to let this community know what is working behind the scenes of this great establishment! I wasn't too impressed by this place. We were craving seafood and decided to come here because it was close by and there were good reviews on Yelp. I don't know why there were such great reviews, I thought the food was mediocre. We got the crab fries as an appetizer--which was just bundles of crab meat dumped on top of some cheese fries. I like cheesy fries but I thought they were standard overpriced boardwalk fries. Although, I have to admit, the crab soup at the bottom was delicious. The lobster mac and cheese was solid. We also had a side of fried calamari which was mostly just breading. I wish they had shaken the oil out a bit more. I bit into one piece and basically drank some oil soup. Kinda ruined the rest of my meal. Maybe we chose the wrong day. Service was great though. Our food came out so fast. read more

Nice evening out. Attentive service. The oysters were great. My scallop main was about 21$ with four small sea scallops (after cooking approx a quarter in size) that were a bit over cooked but overall the dish was flavorful. My girlfriend and I ordered a lobster roll since everyone was saying they were great, but they were far from it. We were given frozen, fishy flavored lobster in what seemed to be a toasted slice of wonder bread. It was also littered with shells, which we bit down on several times. They are an absolute robbery for the price. I wouldn't even eat this if they gave it to me for free. The best part of the meal was the 6 pack of Oreos that were given to us. The thing that I found funny is that when I called to complain, I was told all managers on duty were in the kitchen which tells me that they let this slide and continued to serve it to the customers. Frustrating experience today. Waiter was very inattentive. We had to look for him, wave our arms or ask for him to other staff to get his attention. We ordered the Spiced Steamed shrimp. It used to be our favorite, but last few times we've ordered, it was overdone. So, this time, we specifically asked the waiter to "please do not over cook". Shrimp came back shriveled, tough and overdone. We asked why it suddenly changed. Waiter stated that they had changed cooks a few weeks ago and offered to re-make a pound for us. He stated that the cooks use a timer now that cooks for 10 minutes. So, we asked if he could have them do them for 6 minutes. After a while, they came out, a little under-done but still big, plump, juicy with shell that practically falls off. It's very frustrating having to coach the chefs on how to cook when you are paying supposed professionals to prepare your food. Before we left, the waiter told us that last set of shrimp was cooked "5 to 7 minutes". That was even more frustrating since we asked for 6. I guess I would ask for 7 minutes if that was an option next time. Not sure there will be a next time for a while. Hopefully, they will get a cook in there that knows how to cook shrimp soon. read more

On Facebook, one of my friends kept boasting about this place, but he is kind of a dbag so I hadn't tried it for a long time and now I wish I had tried it sooner. I was able to find parking right out front- a huge plus because parking seems to be difficult in that area. My friend and I were seated right away, around 11:45 am on a Sunday, and then our server came right over and took our drink order- she was very pleasant and looked like she was working hard. The crowd seemed like a mix of families and younger folks and the restaurant has plenty of seating. We ordered the crab-stuffed mushrooms as an appetizer and they were very good. My friend had the oyster po'boy and he really liked it, while I had the crab stuffed rockfish, which our server recommended, and it was excellent. Overall, our experience was great- the service was great, the food was delicious and we left happy. I don't get to Manassas much, but I'm going to find reasons to make my way back to CJ Finz. read more

A colleague ordered the lobster roll and when received it was shockingly unimpressive. For $16 it was a child-sized serving on top of a piece of bread. And received a salad in place of her fries. I'm giving this a 3 star only based on the service/atmosphere of the whole place. When we first walked in on a Saturday afternoon, I felt as if I was interrupting a conversation between the bartender and two patrons sitting at the bar. They looked at my party as if we were intruding. It took a short moment for someone to ask if we would like to be seated, but we were stared down the entire time. Despite this, the food was delicious. We started with the steamed clams with lemon butter and crostini, and the calamari, with a tempura fry served with a spicy dipping sauce. This style of calamari is my absolute favorite! It's light, crunchy, and keeps the integrity of the squid. I'd been craving an oyster po' boy, so of course I ordered it and maaaan did it hit the spot. The fries remind me of thick steak fries and it was a po' boy that made me feel like I was down south. Their lobster roll is a good price for a good amount of lobster - only $17. It seems like the seafood is of a good quality and fresh. Our waitress was friendly enough, but like I said earlier, I just didn't feel welcomed at all. Had we not been on a time schedule I might have taken a moment to go somewhere else. read more

I took my parents & sisters for their first time this month & they couldn't believe how amazing everything was. The steak bites are out of the world! The draft beer is super cold. Food: I opted for the scallops entree while my friend ordered the crab cake entree. The scallops were ok-sized and pretty flavorful while my friend's crab cake was "just ok" in her words. Drink: We both tried a seasonal mojito (pineapple) and were underwhelmed. Definitely too sweet and loaded with pineapple juice to the point it didn't taste like a mojitos at all. Service: Pleasant enough but not all that attentive. It seemed that our server preferred to be elsewhere. When we asked about specifics of different menu items, she answered with a lot of "I haven't tried that" which I always find to be frustrating in the restaurant industry. I was in search of a non-chain restaurant for dinner for my boss and I, as we were staying locally for business. I used my yelp app, as I typically do in unfamiliar waters, and found CJ Finz. It struck my attention since they had a raw bar and lots of seafood items. I pitched this dinner idea to the boss and we head out to town. Upon entering it wasn't quite what I thought it would look like. It seems more of a bar with some tables than a restaurant that happens to have a bar. One big room with the bar as the focus. We grabbed a small table near the opposite side of the bar and took a seat. We didn't see a hostess or a sign saying seat yourself so I just figured it was implied, you know bar style seating. Our waitress greeted us quickly. I ordered the local IPA, but I can't recall the brewery. It was decent. Decent enough that I ordered two. To start I wanted to get an order of Oysters Rockefeller but my boss was not interested in splitting. Fine by me I was quite famished from my lack of lunch earlier that I knew I could handle them all on my own. My boss ordered their She-Crab soup to start. The app's arrived and I looked disappointedly at my Oyster Rockefeller, or in my opinion lack of Rockefeller. In every other situation of ordering these at places that do them right, the entire shell is filled with the spinach, parmesan, panko creamy filling. These were 6 mediocre sized oysters with small layers of herbs and cheese. I thought they would taste better than they looked and this was both true and false. In a few of them I found shells that I chomped down on. I personally wouldn't recommend the Oysters Rockefeller. I asked my boss how he liked his soup and it came across as meh. He commented there wasn't much meat. I can't comment I didn't ask for a bit. Next my entrée came out. I was supper excited having struck out on the app. I ordered the Crab Stuffed Rockfish Fresh rockfish topped with a Jumbo lump crab cake, served with roasted potatoes and grilled vegetables and smothered in our own She-Crab Soup. First time eating Rockfish and it was pretty awesome. Everything was cooked perfectly and the choice was almost perfect save for one poor choice. The "smothered in our own She-Crab Soup." If you recall this is the same soup that the boss ordered for an appetizer. I was very much so enjoying my fish, crab, and veggies, but this smothering of soup was so salty. It really stole away the great taste of everything else. At some point I asked my boss if he thought the soup he had was salty. He said, yea it was. Thanks could have used that info before ordering. Anyhow, I would definitely go back if ever in the area. We went there for lunch on Saturday 8/22/15 and got the fried pickles for our app and prime rib sandwich. The app was okay. The pickles were really thick cut but the sauce on the side was delicious and kind of spicy. The prime rib sandwich was AMAZINGLY DELICIOUS!!!!!!!! So so so so good!!!!! I would recommend to everyone!!! My fiancé and I split the sandwich and app and it was perfect for the two of us. Their ranch isn't my cup of tea though. Too creamy/milky. Ate here early on a Friday night before the dinner rush - 5:00pm. There were plenty of seats available and we sat ourselves. It's a very casual spot, I think you can come wearing sweats and no one would blink an eye. It got pretty packed come 6:00pm or so, not sure if they take reservations but the place is small so it's best to try and come a bit earlier if possible. Service was fast, friendly and attentive. It was good and I have no complaints. Food was good, but not great. I ordered the steamed clams and the oysters Rockefeller to start. The oysters were good but small and skimpy on the "rockefeller" portion. The clams were ok, they were pretty buttery for my taste - I prefer a little white wine with my clams. These also tasted a little overcooked. For my entree, I ordered the shrimp and grits. It was ok. Not amazing and flavorful but just alright. Friends ordered the crab stuffed rockfish and they said it was just ok as well. Nothing blew any of us out of the water but it is a nice local spot when you don't want to go far for some decent seafood. They also have $1 oysters on Monday from 5pm to close so not bad when you're craving them. Overall, an ok spot that I'd come back to but wouldn't go out of my way for. read more

And never forget to order the bread pudding! Chris the owner, is always personable & greets you many times during the meal. If you're lucky enough to get Callie as your waitress, you'll be made in the shade. This place focuses on the food & it shows. We were very excited to try this restaurant. However the food was defiantly disappointing given the price. The crab fries were basically sub par fries with a sprinkle of crab meat and microwaved melted cheese. They were basically flavorless. Also, the lobster roll was a tiny roll stuffed with flavorless lobster meat. While the lobster roll had plenty of meat it was flavorless on a tiny bread roll.
