It pains me to write this. Such a cute spot. The confections are all so fresh. The ambiance was certainly 5 stars. But the food was more like 3. The croque madame was so-so. I wish they had toasted the bread for some texture. And the side of green chile didn't appear to be very fresh. But the cheese melt was perfect so that's good. The eggs benedict missed the mark on egg preparation. And it was so lifeless; it just tasted bland. French food (even breakfast) is usually so robust. But a lot was just plain missing in our meal. The mixed berry clafoutis was good but not great. Too spongy in texture, I think it needed to be warmed a little longer. Did you know that Paisley lived in France way back when? Yup. The lady at the counter was certainly French but the other servers seemed like they were francophone-ing it a bit over the top. Like attraction actors/actresses almost. I admit, I went home after getting breakfast here and googled what "clafoutis" meant. You should do so, just so you know what it means! We were welcomed into this tiny and unassuming cafe by all of the staff with a Bonjour and smiles on a busy Monday morning. My family was leaving to travel towards Taos during our road trip from CA. We decided on Clafoutis because of the grand yelp reviews...and were SO HAPPY we decided this place. We family-style'd their famous Monte Cristo, berries crepe, clafoutis, and raspberry vanilla brioche. The clafoutis is a MUST. The dough is unlike anything I've ever had...custard-y but not wet or drippy, with a hint of dough-like bread consistency. MM it was amazing, and all of us devoured the food like rabid dogs. The coffees and food took a while to come out, with the brioche being the first one out for at least 5 minutes because it was plated from the entrance pastry display. But even though the food took a little long to come out, the servers were always on the move, smiling, and greeting the incoming customers standing there for 30+ minutes. We were lucky that when we walked in, the rush hadn't started yet...so we waited for about 15 minutes only. The place is very small with limited parking, so it's advisable to park nearby and walk over if you can't parallel park or have a large car. There's no wifi here, nor are there any other stores around the place that warrant a walk "around town" while you wait, so you're subject to staring at the delicious pastry display while your stomach growls louder. In all, the ambiance was SO French and cute with the small cafe packing a larger punch than I thought it would. What was absolutely surprising to me was that Santa Fe, NEW MEXICO for crying out loud...has French food! New Mexico is full of surprises, I tell ya. The good kind. read more

Love this place. Everything we ordered was fantastic. Macaroons vaguely reminded me of the famous ones from Disneyland, a little chewy and crispy at the same time. We ordered a quiche and it was incredible and I usually HATE quiche! We got the one with green chili. Our server said it came on top but it was actually baked in and quite wonderful! We also got sandwiches and soup. All lovely and delicious. Great bread. Deli meats weren't bad but not my favorites. read more

Clafoutis is a nice looking place. The various pastries all look tempting. However after trying this place numerous times over the past years since they opened in Santa Fe, we always come away disappointed in the pastries. They never taste as good as they look, which is strange since the owners are actually French and should know how pastries should taste. They always fall short, taste-wise. They look great but that's where the attraction ends. And everyone we know feels the same about it. Not sure what the issue is but it's a shame because we'd like to support them. If you want REAL French pastries that taste as good as they look, go to the Patisserie in Hotel La Fonda. They are the best in Santa Fe! read more

Visiting from Los Angeles. We were looking forward to eating here based on all the positive reviews. There was a 50 minute wait on a Saturday at 11 a.m. so we ordered food from the counter to go. Quiche Lorraine: 5/5. Absolutely amazing. It was very flavorful. It was soft and the pastry was flaky. Baguette sandwich with ham and cheese: 2/5. A French baguette should have a nice crunch when you bite into it. This was just a doughy, yet tough bite. It was not a pleasant texture. Also, it appears no salted butter was used so the flavor was bland. And the quality of the ham and cheese was lacking for the price paid which was more than $8. If you've been to Paris and want an authentic baguette sandwich, this is only it in appearance. It was food and filling at the end of the day. Coconut flan: 1/5. Rating of 1 because it was edible. Not a flan. This was a dense coconut flake pie. It tasted artificial and flavor was overpowering. I was expecting it to be like the delicious Parisian flans that are dainty and custardy. This was a deceiving monstrous thing. Country Style Pear Tart: 2/5. No flavor. Pastry cream filling was clumpy. The pears tasted canned. Very disappointing, but at least was better than the coconut flan. Almond pastry Pithivier: 0/10. Looks nothing like the real French pastry. It was dry and tasteless. Truly terrible. Final verdict: 2/5 for the quiche only. Skip everything else and just go to Porto's when you get back to LA which has solid food and prices. Or make a trip to Paris. read more

My first time walking into the bakery and it was heaven! It smelled good just walking up to the door, yum! This lovely French pastry shop is a great find in Santé Fe. It offers a quick pick-me-up bakes as well as a lovely décor restaurant. I hear it's a family-owned business that was recently in a cramped location, I am delighted to happy to admit that their new location is very spacious; you won't be disappointed. Clafoutis sell delicious quiches, pastries and sandwiches. I truly enjoyed the Pear and Peach Clafoutis. Make sure that you ask for it warmed up, that's the best! I know this may be too much to ask, but I wonder if they can open up a location in San Francisco. I know, I'll gain about 20-30 pounds, but it may be worth it, right? The place is small and the tables are old and rustic but everything is clean (even the restrooms) and a lot of odd bits and ends are put up on the walls to make it more authentic and cute. The parking is very limited so I'd recommend parking somewhere nearby and walking or being prepared to wait for someone else to leave. The cafe latte was alright but it definitely needs honey or sugar to sweeten it up. The chai latte on the other hand is absolutely delicious. Service was very pleasant, and prompt. The fresh fruit French toast was soft and went down very easily. There's a large amount of fruit that comes with it so be ready to chow down. Provençal omelette was very savory and delicious. Usually I dislike tomatoes and olives but somehow this place makes it work! Fresh fruit crepe was sort of a disappointment. We came 2 days ago and had the croque madame and abc omelette. The croque madame was rich and savory,the omelette well cooked and full of bacon and veg. We ordered a pistachio brioche and almond croissant. They are more bread than croissant but delicious. Came back today and tried the bacon and green xhile quiche. I was so sad when Clafoutis moved from their former location because we lived less than two blocks away. The lure of yummy pastries and terrific quiches drew us in and they are sorely missed, but am so pleased that their new site suits them so much better and they seem to be very successful. Stopped in this morning for an omelette and came back later for their namesake plum and peach clafoutis, an amandier, and a butter cookie. My mom brought me here while visiting from out of town, and I am in LOVE. You can't help but buy from the case if you walk by, so I bought one of everything since I don't live nearby. My favorite was the blueberry madelines! It was so nice to see a mother-daughter duo behind the case. They were both so attentive to guests as they were coming and going in and out of the restaurant.
