Service and atmosphere were both fine, no complaints there. I'm very torn on the actual food here. The pork belly was amazing and had a great smoky flavor. The resulting broth from that also had a great smokey peppery taste to it. The big but in this case and thus me being torn is all of the ramen elements. If this was a regular stew or just a totally different dish with that pork belly and sauce I think it would be amazing. The ramen side feels like a restaurant decided they needed ramen on the menu so they just threw it on there. The noodles were cooked too long and were overly gummy. There wasn't near enough broth. The eggs were actually gross and didn't have the right taste or texture. Others eating with me thought the ramen was delicious and I believe the waitress when she said she likes it. I think what it comes down to is expectations, if you have had ramen and you know what to expect then be aware of the red flag of having a ramen dish at a place where it doesn't belong on a menu. Otherwise if you think ramen is the 25 cent packet from the grocery store you likely won't care about many of the things I mentioned and you will probably just enjoy a good smoked pork and noodles soup dish read more

My family and I celebrated graduation weekend here and it was really wonderful. The chef checked in with us regarding our entrees and made sure that everything was cooked to perfection. The Duck Birria tacos were delicious as starters and our waiter, Vicente, was helpful, attentive and very sweet. When we're back in Lubbock, we will definitely be enjoying Claraboya's again!! Stayed at the Doubletree in Lubbock on the way to Colorado and decided to eat and have a few drinks at Claraboya in the lobby.Man were we in for a suprise! This was a really top scale bar and restuarant.Our server Maggie took care of us from the start and everyone else stopped to say hello and ask if we needed anything.Even the chef came out to the tables and asked if everything was good,which it was.The place was well staffed and the food presentation was outstanding! Very few Lubbock restaurants hit (and surpass) the mark for gastronomic excellence every time, but Claraboya -- without question -- tops this very very exclusive list. My wife, three children, and I paid Claraboya a visit last night, and were warmly welcomed the staff and chef/owner, Tony. As a fairly newly-diagnosed celiac, I inquired of Tony what he might recommend. To my surprise, he suggested something "off menu", and in short order produced one of the most delicious things I have eaten in recent memory: my description will not do it justice, but it was a Latin-flavored chicken and gluten-free sweet potato gnocchi dish that will linger in my happy food memories for some time. Tony suggested that this option will likely feature on Claraboya's forthcoming fall menu to debut in late August. Don't sleep on this one, LBK. Truly outstanding every time! read more

We have been following Claraboya on Facebook for weeks and finally came to try it out. It did NOT disappoint! We will definitely be back! The chef came out and spoke to our table. This is the hidden gem of Lubbock! The food was fantastic and highlighted local ingredients. We appreciated the opportunity to support local Lubbock businesses such as E3 greens. Wow! Fooled by the high ratings. Absolutely worst dining experience in a long time. Waiter (Riley) was an idiot. Refused to provide my table with the list of beers they had on tap - instead, he insisted that we tell him what exactly we were looking for. I'm not a kid; a know my beers, not looking for a recommendation. When I told him I want to just hear what they have, he told me that I needed to go to the bar to see. Since I have NEVER had a waiter tell me something like this, I asked a second time to be sure that's what he said and he said it again. He was very short and didn't look at me. Once I got to the bar, a very nice bartender told me the choices me and seemed to be perplexed that the waiter had told me that I needed to go to the bar to see what was on draft. In the end, there were only 6-8 beers on tap. I was expecting to see at least 30 beers which might explain why he couldn't list them. Not the case. The waiter then came up to the bar to see which I'd chosen, when I did not answer within a second or two, still in disbelief with what was happening, he said, "well water it is" and took off. I could go on and on about this horrible experience with this immature waiter as he missed several times throughout the dinner to apologize or make it right. He never took those opportunities, even when I shared my concerns with him. He simply said he had lots of tables and didn't have time to tell me about the beers. Unsatisfied, I did speak with a sympathetic manager, but at the end of the day, this experience was not made right and I'll never come back or recommend it to anyone else. Aside from the service... Food was tasty; expensive for what it is and ambience feels like a hotel lobby because, well, that's what it is. Also, one of my colleagues had a hair in his beer and had to send it back. I was fooled by the high rating this hotel restaurant has but it will not last long with more experiences like mine. read more

What a great place! My mom suggested it for her birthday lunch and I am so glad she did! The grilled cheese with fig jam was crazy good and the ribeye steak sandwich was awesome! The only downside is the sort of odd location in a hotel lobby that hasn't quite been converted into restaurant use, a fact that makes the prices a little more than what one might expect. For example, we were seated at a table that was one of those one-sided tables hotels use for seminars instead of a regular dining table. Still, the food was top-notch and we'll be back. This is hands down my favorite restaurant in Lubbock! The chef is incredible, creative and brings the flavor to every meal. One of my all time favorite dishes is actually a shareable plate. The Fried Green Tomatoes and Pork Belly dish is absolutely phenomenal! I was a bit hesitant, but oh my goodness! The flavors in your mouth are like a symphony of textures and flavors melding together so perfectly. The crispness of the fried green tomato is paired so well with the saltiness of the pork belly. But the tomato jam and smoky cheeses take it to a whole new level. A true explosion of delectable flavors! My husband and I have been to Claraboya on 4 occasions--once for drinks at the bar, twice for dinner and once for brunch. Most importantly, the food is OUTSTANDING, which is why I'm giving Claraboya 5 stars! The cuisine here surpasses anything I've had in town. The flavors are superb, the dishes are creative, and the portion sizes are perfect. For the most part, the decor is attractive and atmosphere are nice. However, it doesn't feel as intimate as I'd prefer because on one side it opens to the lobby, and toward the back side the seating reminds me of a traditional area serving a continental breakfast. I think modifying the lighting and/or decor in the back (especially in the evening) could make it feel more like a restaurant. One of the positives about the atmosphere is that they have music on a regular basis. The musicians vary, and some seem to fit well with a restaurant/bar setting but others are so low-key and somber I felt like I was at a library or church. Despite a few minor criticisms, we've enjoyed all of our visits and will be back. read more

Everything we tasted was wonderful. We started with the shrimp tacos. The shrimp was very tender and tasty. The onion strings that accompanied the dish were yummy. We ordered both the watermelon salad and the salad with a grilled peach, pistachios, and orange vinaigrette. Both were so good, I want to try and recreate them at home. I had a seafood soup that was full of halibut, shrimp, and scallops. It was tasty and so filling, I could not finish it. Both my husband and daughter ordered the braised short ribs accompanied by mashed potatoes and veggies. They both cleaned their plate. My husband and I went for breakfast. I did not realized it was inside a hotel. I had the Avocado toast and my husband had the huevos rancheros, both were well made. The avocado toast was on a thick piece of bread and crisped to perfection. I thought it would be a heavy breakfast because of the addition of veggies and poached egg but it was pleasantly light. I've had some very good chicken at this restaurant but the chicken stuffed with chorizo is not very good. The sausage overpowers the entire dish and basically ruins it. They need to rethink this dish and 86 the chorizo. read more

We came for Valentines Day dinner. We walked into a bar atmosphere . We thought the restaurant had to be back further. Nope we were there. They handed us a Valentines menu. Beef option $75 Pork shank $50 chicken option $40 A salad was $15 to add on. We ordered the chicken only because it was the cheapest. The chicken portion was very small, but good. Not worth $40 chicken by far! The desserts were ALL $20. Don't get me wrong I know they add a little on the for menu options if it's a special menu. The chicken was not worth $40, I'm sorry. We came because it was well recommended, we are wondering if a normal hard working person could afford their regular menu. We will not be going back. read more

What a pleasant surprise!! We stayed at the Double Tree for a national track meet and ate here twice during our stay. The first night my husband had the pork chop, mashed potatoes and carrots entrée. I had the shrimp and grits. Both were very good. Hands down the best shrimp and grits I had in a long time. The pork shop was huge and cooked perfectly!! We ate brunch here the next day and both our meals were fantastic!! We will definitely eat here again if we are back in Lubbock! read more
