It started with the service getting slower and waiting 30 min for an appetizer. Then the food quality went down while the prices went up. Great view, right on the river. Lloyd's meatballs were delicious! Waitstaff gave a great recommendation to mix the huckleberry cider (sweet) and the cherry blossom cider (dry); I liked them both separately and mixed was even better. Elk burger was tasty. Chocolate lava cake delicious. read more

This is exactly how I felt when my fiancé and I sat at our table on the patio at Clark and Lewie's, waiting patiently for the server to acknowledge us. In and out they went from the kitchen to the patio, bringing this and that to each table, making the rounds multiple times while we waited. After 20 minutes my fiancé began calling for the server, raising her voice slightly the 2nd time. And yet, like the fateful Dr Malcolm Crowe, we were not seen or in any way acknowledged. When our 2 friends showed up, making us a table of 4 (and, thankfully, confirming that we were indeed alive, or perhaps that they were also dead) we thought for sure our fortunes would change. But 15 more minutes passed and still there was no acknowledgement. We got up and left at that point, drifting out as unnoticed as we came in. read more

The patio was nice and so was the young man that waited on us... but he seemed to be the only person waiting tables so he was spread thin and it took a bit for him to come take pur order. I ordered naked wings, a few minutes later, I was told they were out... ok, so I ordered the beer cheese soup, but instead of it being creamy and hearty, it was cuddled and luke warm. After a Sunday hike in gorge me and my sister decided to stop by Clark and Lewie's for lunch. Neither of us had been here before but after looking at the menu online decided to give it a try. We split the wedge salad and the Mac & Cheese. Both the salad and the Mac where very tasty and also came out already split for us which is always a huge plus! Wonderful restaurant! The staff was great, the food was delicious, and the view was stunning. We were in town for a couple days to visit family, and this is their favorite place. I can see why! If they're still on the menu when you go, you have to try the Thai style poutine! Sweet potato fries covered in peanut sauce. Yum!! I came here for first time today and I loved it! Despite being rainy and cold we sat on the patio overlooking the river. There was an awning to keep us dry and the waiter brought us heat lamps to keep us warm. The view was so beautiful! I had the Bridge of the Gods Bloody Mary, soooo good and topped with bacon. This was our second, and last, time ever eating here! We first tried it about eight months ago, the food was average and the supervisor on duty that day was very rude to one of her staff members, and the service was somewhat slow. But we decided it had been a long time, so maybe they had improved since our last visit. Boy, were we wrong!! This visit was one hundred time worse than our first. Today, we waited for over 45 minutes to get our meal (it was just the two of us, so it was not a large order by any means). There was only one other table of patrons in the whole restaurant. When we were served our food they forgot to bring out part of our meal, when I asked where it was, the server looked confused and said he would go find out. He came back with the missing food, which was cold, like it had been sitting out on the counter for an hour. We will never be going back to this place again! read more

I found this riverfront restaurant on yelp, we arrived and loved how charming it looked. We were sat outside and the views were amazing. After sitting for five minutes the couple in the corner stood up and stormed out and as they passed they said take our table were outta here!!! We thought that seemed weird and rude.. but they did have a good-view table so we asked the server if we could move there. He said yes and was oblivious about the fact he had just lost a paying customer. After sitting for 20 minuets with no drink order or food order we started to realize why the other couple left. Then a 8- top table came in he sat them and started taking there order. At that point we to stood up left and no one said a word as they saw us walk out the door..love the owners I heard the food is amazing but wait staff can use some training. read more

We've been here twice before. We drove here from Vancouver because Skamania county is the closest county with businesses open. Misty is about the coolest bartender on the planet. Her grandma, Betty was at the bar next to me. She was hilarious and we had a fun time chatting. She owns a coffee shop in Carson. Can't wait to go there. Anyways we enjoyed their delicious jalapeño poppers and their wings. The food is amazing and the staff is so friendly!!! I'm 100% sure that all the good reviews of this place are fake. I had the worst (and most bizarre) dining experience of my life here. This could be a novel but I'll share highlights: 1. Waitress that didn't know what a mojito was. 2. Menu inside was completely different than what was posted outside. 3. They were out of 50% of their menu items (during Sat lunch) 4. Waitress insisted on carding 2 people that weren't ordering alcohol. 5. Food took more than sn hour to come out (we ordered 2 burgers and two soups) 6. Food was cold when it arrived. 7. A very, very weird dining experience, and one I will not repeat willingly. First, the good: the view is wonderful and the deck pleasant (although if you're squeamish of the sight of dozens of very large spiders catching bugs while you eat, stay inside). But then you sit down, and the trouble starts. The service started out attentive, but then got really weird, with the server trying to reach under the table to place napkins on our laps. This rubbed me the wrong way, if you know what I mean. I ordered the poutine with duck. No duck was present. 10 minutes after ordering the fish sandwich, they tell me they are out of that fish. My friends then ask what about their fish & chips (as the server hadn't addressed the lack of whitefish toward my friends, just me). She allowed that yes, their fish & chips would be made with salmon, if that was OK. Well, whatever. Things happen. I ordered the shortribs instead. I cook shortribs regularly. My Korean family uses this cut of meat on a regular basis. These, sir, were not shortribs. I get a place heaped with the driest mashed potatoes on this side of the Columbia, and a heap of salty, pasty, gluey pot roast that had been cooking for several days. I was not impressed, nor could I finish my meal. The server seemed to understand, and didn't bat an eye at the fact that we all left quite a bit of food on our plates. The server's knowledge of the drinks list was a bit strange as well: she told us they had an IPA *and* an India Pale Ale, not realizing they were the same thing; when I asked for the dryer of the two ciders, I got a super-sweet cider ... they have a few decent beers, but if you want anything other than pedestrian IPAs, you might be disappointed. My uncle had the salmon. He said it was acceptable, despite looking extremely dry and not very appetizing, and being a pretty small portion. This place is just very, very weird. It's like someone made a place that LOOKS like a restaurant, but isn't really. I have a feeling they don't know what they are doing. There were more staff than customers at one point, wandering around on the deck, some smoking on the side of the building right as a mother with a child in a stroller tried to walk back (yuck! - the cigarette, not the kid, who was very well-behaved). Constantly reaching over me to refill my glass whether I want it or not is a little irritating. Anyway, just a generally weird place. What an adorable little place! The view alone is five stars! My partner and I ate there during the sunset and were blown away. This is the perfect spot to relax on the Columbia River and eat great food. Together we shared the elk burger with fries, poutine(Thai sauce with sweet potato fries), and the half size of the macaroni and cheese. The elk burger was scrumptious! I wasn't sure what to think when my spouse ordered it but I recommend it for sure. The fries were very skinny, nothing special. The poutine was different in the best way possible. My taste buds have never experienced something like that but are hoping to get it again very soon! The macaroni was yuuuummmmyy. I'm a big fat macaroni and cheese head and anytime I see it in the menu it is bound to be in my tummy. The half size was perfect for the both of to share and definitely a must-have. And one of my favorite parts of the evening was our waitress. I don't remember what her name was but she said she was born and raised in the area with a young child. CONs: Both visits they were out of items listed on menu and items promoted on their website, food was ok the first visit and sub par second visit. We had burgers, wings and onion rings during our first visit (lunch), and everything was great...however there were menu items they were out of that we would have ordered. During our second visit (dinner) the menu they presented us looked more like pub snacks vs. dinner plates. They did not have the dinner plates featured on their website! I asked for their website's featured item COOTES POUTINE and they said they didn't have it anymore...so why is it still on their website as a featured item?? So I had another burger, however this time it seemed more like a burger you'd get at a friend's BBQ...not from a restaurant...eh, it was ok, but it was nowhere close to the burger we previously had during our lunch visit...sub par. Hmm, not really sure if I want to go back anytime soon...I'm not sure if I want to pay full price for another bad experience. Hopefully this place just needs to work the kinks out...and hopefully their food will reach their full potential of what they list on their menu and website. My car broke down in Stevenson, WA and I decided to spend my time wandering around the small town eating and drinking. I walked in a few places that didn't speak to me, and then I headed down to the Port and found this little gem of a restaurant. Walking over the railroad tracks to it I didn't even realize it was a restaurant but I could at least tell there would be a beer waiting for me. What an awesome surprise. The Expedition Poutine is better than I've had it anywhere else. Smooth gravy. KIller cheese curds. Cold beer. A slice of heaven. My buddy had the short ribs. Headed to the Gorge for a girls weekend and found this hidden treasure down by the waterfront in Stevenson, Washington. Several other restaurants have tried to make it here and failed, but this one seems like it has a shot to make it. The server was delightful and attentive. The martinis were made right, were ample, and it the style of glass I like. The extra olives were a nice touch. The gin & tonics were served on ice in tall thin glasses - very classy. We weren't as hungry as we thought when we arrived, so we split appetizers - mouth-watering, creamy macaroni and cheese with wild mushrooms & bacon, and two kinds of ample chicken wings. Next time I plan to get the fish & chips - we saw folks on all sides of us eating it and it looked delicious. The patio where we sat had a great view and a gentle breeze on a warm night, and if we were on dates it would be a romantic setting. If you aren't in a mood for a view, you can sit inside near the bar and watch your favorite sports team. The restaurant is new and has some kinks to work out, but it is well worth the visit and with the kind of excellent service and fresh ingredients being used by the chef this restaurant has staying power. We came here on one of coldest and iciest weekends in the Gorge this winter. After sliding down the hill from Skamania Lodge, we dropped down to the river to watch the whitecaps in the blinding sunlight and stumbled in this place. We arrived just past noon and had the place to ourselves (the weather really would have deterred most people) The bartender was such a pleasant and warm person - and the menu looked interesting - so we decided to stay. I had hash and a Michelada-style Bloody Mary. So good! My husband had the elk burger, which he could not stop raving about hours later in Portland. The ambience is lovely. It is the most visually-pleasing restaurant we have been to in Stevenson, and it is also relaxed and welcoming. We chatted with the owner a bit about his new "specialty mountain-shaped ice cube business," which was fun. He is very enthusiastic about what he does! This was an unexpectedly lovely experience, and we will definitely return on our next visit to Stevenson. Thanks, guys! read more

While being a regular to the majestic Columbia River Gorge and a native of Portland, I find myself in Stevenson often on the way back from many leisurely drives, exploring escapades and daily hikes. While I love this quaint town and all it has to offer, I was really hoping I could say the same about the recently opened Clark and Lewie's. Clark and Lewie's looks like a step up from the ol' "Bar 130" of yesteryear but sadly, it hasn't changed. While the staff seemed to be pleasant, they also seemed to be highly inexperienced, disorganized and unkempt. Overhearing the staff speak inappropriately while trying to eat dinner is extremely unprofessional and warrants a "never to return again" on my end. Our server didn't fit the type that should be serving at a "higher end" joint, which I'm assuming is what C&L is shooting for. I felt like I may have well gone to Denny's with her show of experience and presentation, or lack there of. Everything felt a bit out of place and just awkward. On another note, the beer menu looked somewhat impressive until learning there were only 6 of the 10 beers on draft. I get it, you get busy, you run outta beer-- But early in the evening on a weeknight? Not to mention being out of half the items on the very limited dinner menu? Wow. The positive is the excellent view from their back deck and the food wasn't all bad, just pricey for the whole experience. I have to say, unfortunately, we won't be back. I would much rather stop by the Big River Grill for a consistent and friendly experience. As sad as it is to say, skip Clark and Lewie's.... At least until (and if) they get it together. read more

I was kind of surprised about the negative reviews (I try to draft my review - even if only in my head - before writing one so I don't get swayed). JJ and I were on our way to Stevenson for a wedding and stopped here for lunch. We split the elk burger (very lean and tasty) and fries and the wedge salad (which was great). Great location, great view. The service was friendly - not super fast, but then it was pretty crowded on a warm day (especially with a family crowd of whiny picky children). Not much of a wine selection, but what I had was great. Good value for money. read more

My experience was 10 stars. I was staying at Skamania Lodge for a conference that started in the evening. On a 90 degree day, after an early morning hike, a stop at the county fair, a walk in to "town" and watching the kite surfers from the pier, I was a weary traveller and stopped off at this watering hole for a bite to eat and a cool drink. Colleen welcomed me at the bar and recommended the fresh cod sandwich. They were out of fries so I chose cole slaw. I now see other reviews complaining about items not being available but this is not a high volume restaurant, it's a lazy-day, high food quality gem...so don't expect they will get their procurement right every time. Food = excellent (cod sandwich on grilled texas toast and fresh lemonade) Location = perfect Service = slower paced but friendly (what more could you want?!) Owner = lovely Best for last: After I'd paid the bill and raved about the sandwich, I mentioned that I didn't realize how far I'd walked and Colleen sweetly offered to drive me back 1.7 miles to the lodge. It was enroute that I learned she and her husband had relocated out to Stevenson from Portland and had just started this place in April. Kudos to them for creating such a quaint establishment.
