I called this morning to see if I could bring a car in that I was interested in buying. I spoke with Albert and he said he wasn't too busy and that I could bring it in today. Later in the day, I called and brought it over. The gentleman who greeted me didn't speak English very well and I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to get this checked out. The gentleman called Albert and he was back within 15 minutes to help me out. After about 5 minutes he brought me to the car to show me all the rust on the bottom of the car, saying it had been in a flood. The dealership was asking $6,800 for the car and he said he would not recommend paying more then $3,500. And I feel that $40 for that was very fair. Definitely recommend. read more

I already have a hard time trusting mechanics since the entire process is pretty opaque, and hard to fact check against other locations--actually I take that back, price matching is usually something that many don't want to do, as auto repairs are more of a "PLEASE just get it done" process. Any who, I'll give it to this place, due to the courteousness of the mechanics on staff throughout the entire process -- from my phone call to my visit, the gentlemen that I spoke to were all amenable and professional. And the involved process of having the major fluids in my vehicle changed (transmission & coolant flush, oil change, ect..), was completed same day (car dropped off at 12pm - I was told it was done around 3pm)--and the price was comparable to another location that I had the service quoted for in another state. My only complaint is that I wish that they were better with the paperwork. I got a verbal quote after I told the mechanic what I wanted done -- of which, admittedly, I should have been more specific about--because the invoice that I got from him lumped everything together and I was a little confused on whether or not he completed everything I asked for. Also, that 10% yelp discount? I was told that it as included in my quoted, even numbered price. Huh? I also asked for a written quote on some more involved, more expensive work, which again, I got verbally, and not in writing--even after I asked for it again before checking out. I'll admit I'm probably being somewhat of a stickler on these details, so I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt with 4 stars -- but I think that in the future, I'll be much more specific with the garage on the work I want done specifically, and probably come to them after consulting a few other garages first. read more

Very fast oil change for a very fair price. These guys seem really honest and after getting raked over the coals by my last place, I plan to make this my regular. Not that this is totally relevant, but they called me after I left to let me know I left my water bottle behind. How nice is that? It would have been easier to throw it in a lost and found box. read more

I spoke to Albert on the phone re: a routine 40k service for my vehicle after getting an atrocious quote from the agency. I sent him a list of the items on the 40k service (from the agency website) and he gave me a reasonable quote. I mentioned to him that his quote was slightly more than another third-party auto shop and he matched the price without question, and threw in a couple of extras too (installed a set of windshield wiper blades I had bought elsewhere for free, did an additional 27-point inspection). I gave the car in the morning and he had it ready within a couple of hours! Really amazing service! Overall, Albert and his team are excellent, knowledgeable and provide great service - I think I have found my new regular auto guy! read more

New owners (Speed Muffler now); they did not listen, did not communicate, they did smile and say "yes", but without thinking or being clear with me. Getting good auto service for a fair price is hard to find and these guys lost credibility with me right from the start. Will not be returning. Very sad to see this place change hands. I was a regular for oil changes, brake work, other mechanical work done with previous owner. It was so convenient. Speed Muffler was a complete turn-off. read more

Albert, the head mechanic at this shop is just wonderful. Brought my 2006 Dodge Charger in after another mechanic didnt finish the work. Had a fuel leak and a bad intake plenium. Albert ran a free diagnostic check, had the car back to me in 2 days, when others would take longer, and even washed and detailed the car for me at NO CHARGE. Gave me tips for my next oil change and was upfront what was wrong with the car. I will definitely be back and I highly recommend Clark's auto! Ask for Albert! read more

I am super glad I went to these guys for my catalytic converter replacement. Thieves have stolen my cat converter off my Prius twice this year. The first time I went to the dealership & got it done. But they came at me for the second time & have screwed me again. I was dreading the whole repair thing, but Roberto & his associate were so efficient, quick & transparent with the repair. Took our car here after dealing with some sketchy people at a local dealership service center. Quoted me at a great price and did same day service. The dealership had messed up on stating one of the things wrong with the car (which is what the quote was based on) I was quoted at $2 per part (required 2 of them) it ended up being a different issue that required over an hour of labor. He didn't request anymore money. I've driven the car about 200 miles since getting the work done. Excellent work. read more

I should have written about this place a while ago but this is the only Auto Shop I will go to in Chicago. Even if I move away from the North Side one day I will still come up north to see these guys. I have an SUV that is over 10 years old and they have kept her in good condition with better prices than anyone else. You know how you walk out of an auto repair shop and you don't know for certain but you think you may have been cheated? You WILL NOT feel that way after you leave here! I've have basic stuff done here like oil changes and brake repair. However, I have had them fix other more complex issues as well. A few years ago, my AC died and two other shops gave me a huge price to fix. Clark Auto Repair fixed it for half the cost. Later, another shop returned my car with the dip stick stuck in the oil pan after an oil change. Clark Auto Repair fixed it for almost nothing. Today Albert at the shop fixed my power steering pump. I dropped the car off, he gave me the quote and I walked to work. When I talked to him later, he let me know he was able to actually rebuild my pump and the repair would cost less than half what he quoted me...LESS THAN HALF!!! Plus he stayed after his normal 6pm closing time tonight so I could pick my car up after I got stuck at work!!!! LOVE LOVE LOVE this place....Yay for this family business :) read more

I have been coming here for maintenance since I moved to the north side not for anything major. The owner Albert has always been nice, he did over charge me for a rear break job but I needed it done and his location was convenient. However, as of late these guys have been really moody. I came in for an oil change and one of the mechanics began to tell me all of the problems he is having as an employee of the place. Then I asked him if he could close the garage door because it was cold and he told me NO! So here I sit freezing wait for him to finish my oil change. Smh... I hope things get better... When my Audi started acting up I went to the closest Audi store. Audi doesn't hold back, giving me a list of crazy expensive things that have all 'failed', rounding it out to a near $2000. Second opinion is what I know I need at this point. I head over to the CarX only to receive a similar long list of completely different things summing $1300. The discrepancy of the lists makes me turn to a neighborhood guy, Clark Auto. I don't mention the 'lists'. They inspected my car, told me what they needed to do, and gave me options on repair and parts. Best of all, $400! I show him the lists from the other places. He scoffs at them, knowing full well they are just diversionary tactics to deceive and abuse people. It's been 3 weeks since the repairs and the car is doing great. I was lucky to find them. It's a great place to have in your contact list. Never again do I have to worry about predatory mechanics drooling over my wallet or newbies fumbling over my finely tuned import at the CarX. This is my first Yelp review. Ever. But it's totally warranted. What to say about Clark Auto Repair? Well, it was the most pleasant and painless "trip to the mechanic" I've ever had. Service with a smile! The gentleman I dealt with was so nice - start to finish. I was at ease from the moment I walked in the door (which is another first since I tend to feel like a lamb in the slaughter house walking into auto repair shops without a compadre of the male persuasion. I'm not a completely uninformed female consumer when it comes to things related to the auto-mo-bile, but I make no apologies for being an overly cautious lady regardless). I digress. So the minutiae - I needed some minor repairs; back headlights were out and had a rear tire that needed patching up. No joke when I say the car was ready to go, in like, an hour. Without an appointment.. ..AND the bill didn't completely freak me out (very competitive rates, imo.) I will certainly be back for any of my automotive needs in the future... including my regularly scheduled maintenance like oil changes, etc. I highly recommend this establishment. I'm proud to add my words to this company's already exemplary rating. I'm mainly a highway driver, use my brakes sparingly, and have only 50K miles on my Honda. I was therefore a bit terrified when my brakes began to grind about two weeks ago. After calling Runge's and discovering they were (and usually are) too busy, I came to Clark. The fellow manning the desk was great and even told me they could probably fix my brakes in under two hours (it was already 4 pm). I really didn't expect this quick service. After doing a little research, I've found I paid far less than what other Honda owners have recently spent for front brake pads, rotors and labor. Good honest people here. read more

Ok, if there is one thing I can say about Clark Auto it is that they have great customer service. To be fair, Albert didn't know that we were still having the same issue with the car. Out of frustration we had just given up and taken it somewhere else. After seeing my review, he contacted my husband to discuss the problem and offered to repair. Clark Street Auto has worked on my cars several times and I couldn't be happier with them. They have always offered the lowest cost estimates and the final bill has always stayed within estimate which is a miracle given all the things that can crop up during a repair. They even took care of some of the little things that popped up at no extra charge. My contact there as been DJ and he has been very reliable. He's bent over backwards ensuring things went as well as possible with my 20 year old Volvo which is at an age when things just come up. I highly recommend this repair shop as they have been very good to me. Thanks again Clark Auto! 2-16-17 UPDATE. I took my car in for a new brake master cylinder. I got the car back and I noticed a few days later that the brake oil was now leaking at a different location. I took the car back and they repaired it at no extra charge. I just picked up my car from them and I would say the experience was great. I went in for an alternator change and after they were done they had me come in and take a look at some other things that will need attention. The s-belt failed on our 1999 Saab and I needed a mechanic who was knowledgeable and ethical. Clark Auto Repair exceeded my expectations. They not only repaired the problem properly, but did so in less than a day, showed me the defective parts, explained how they failed (all without my having to ask) and charged a very reasonable price. This business is now under new management. I took my car in for an oil change and a tire rotation. The price doubled from what it was before. Since leaving, the warning lights continue to go off. I am not sure if the work was actually completed. I had to take the car in 2 times for them to attempt to get the maintance light off. They were unsuccessful. In fact, they gave up and told me that it would just eventually turn off on its own l, it didn't. I then had to go to the dealership and they fixed it immediately. Also the tire light keeps going off, I'm not going to bother asking them to fix it (telling me I need a rotation that I paid for and had done). It's too bad, this has been my trusted mechanic for years but no more. Avoid. read more

I wish that every five star review I posted would increase their rating. I was taking in my car for an oil change after my dealership recommended it due to misfire issues they could not diagnose. I brought in my own oil, filter, drain bolt and would pay their labor fee since I don't have space to do it myself. I told Albert about my experience at the dealer and he said he would try to fix the misfire. When I can back, they said they couldn't get any codes for a misfire. Then they didn't charge me a cent for the oil change and tests. These guys are amazing! I can't say enough how much they strive to earn your trust and how they actually make me feel like I found a mechanic that has earned my loyalty as a customer. I will bring my car here even if my car is still under the preowned warranty. You don't get the dealership runaround, nor the dealership prices, but you do get honest and trustworthy service. read more

Clark Auto Parts and Repair is the only auto repair place I have gone to more than once. Albert is personable, and he's not out to cheat you. He also knows his stuff. I am rather surprised this place has so many good reviews. I've gone here for quite a few years and never had a repair done right the first time. Their prices are high and the work is shoddy. The owner Albert is dishonest and doesn't play fair. The saying "If you tell the truth, you don't have to remember anything." by Mark Twain applies because Albert is so dishonest the facts he states to try to defend his point are absolutely laughable. I have to echo the other positive comments on here - took my car in for an oil change and checkup before a long distance drive, Albert & co. were quick, efficient and very reasonably piced - and did not try to upsell to stuff I didn't need (they suggested I have something done at my next oil change even after I told them I was moving and wouldn't be coming back). Albert is a quick and efficient person. I had work that needed to be done the day after we had subzero temp. in Chicago. He told me to come in early to get it taken care of and it took him all of 20-25minutes to get it taken care of...that includes him finding the right tool and putting my car on the lift. Mario at Clark Auto Repair is so amazing! I was going out of town the following day and suddenly had a battery issue. I wanted to make sure my Volkswagen was ready for the road trip. He performed a full diagnostic, fixed the battery/fuse issue, and made absolutely sure that I did not pay any more than I absolutely had to to get the car fixed.
