So he comes and charges $99. And it would go towards the repair if decided to move forward. He comes and takes about 5-10 minutes and tells me it is the igniter and it would be $347. for total. I already had done my research and know that the part is $35 and I could pickup from a local appliance part store in Montgomery County. Or order directly from Whirlpool for under $50. So when I asked him how much is the part, He said $149. Then I asked him if he had the igniter already or would he have to order it? He said he's prepared & has it in his box. I had then asked him to see what it looked like. That's when he tells me " I cannot show that to you, I have already told you too much information about it." That's when I put an end to it. I will not put up with shady business people, businesses allowing this. I paid the $99. As first agreed and told him to get out of my house. He is an older man that needs to realize that people ( no matter the gender or race of their clients, potential and now-Never). Do not assume that the general public do not research before they reach out to you from online!!!!! The only good thing I will add: The early on communicating about eta arrival. That is the only thing he was good about. And he used my paper towel on the counter, and left the dirty used ones on my counter. The nerve! I would have NO stars, if allowed. So this is the only reason why it has a one. I shouldn't have even paid the $99. In my opinion due to the whole dishonesty. But he was in my house already.

The booking, estimate, and payment were all handled by text message. While that's certainly convenient, it also made the whole experience feel a bit impersonal. I'm not old, but I still value some human contact and connection with the company I'm hiring. The tipping prompt felt inappropriate. When I went to pay the invoice, there was an option to add a tip for the repair tech on top of the quoted price. I really dislike this practice. Restaurant servers depend on tips as part of their income; repair technicians should be paid an adequate salary by the company, without the customer being nudged to subsidize their pay. In short, I appreciate that Andy Duck Repair addressed the issue, but I hope they'll reconsider how they handle customer interaction and tipping in the future.

A year ago Mid MD Appliance Repair fixed our oven's computer panel. They also replaced the oven…read moredoor's hinges. The door had a small crack which had overheated the panel (a known issue with Whirlpool ranges). In less than a year, the new hinges were broken again, this time leaving a much larger 1" gap. I called them thinking the hinges must be defective. The previous hinges had lasted over 11 years with only minor damage. Though it was past warranty I thought they would stand behind their work, at least offer a discount or perform some simple fix if possible. They asked if I had ever put any heavy weight on the door, like resting a pot on it, which I never had. To demonstrate the only abuse the door might receive, I opened the door and let go when it was half open. The door fell open with a clang. This seemed the excuse they were looking for and I was accused of improperly opening the door, implying you have to gently hold the door with two hands until it is fully open. They charged me $100 for the visit, gave me an estimate to replace the hinges, and left. This didn't sit right with me. I hadn't done anything differently than I have in the last 60 years of opening oven doors. Why did these new hinges last less than a year? Before I wrote this review I called them to discuss my concerns. They then yelled at me, repeating that they had seen what happened and that it was my negligence that made the hinges break. Finally, they said they didn't need to listen to me and hung up. Later, doing my own research, I found out that oven doors come with springs that prevent them from clanging open. If you open them halfway and let go, the door stays half open or gently falls open under its own weight. Possibly the spring was installed improperly when the hinges were replaced, or it had broken since the repair. If they had bothered to listen to me or ask a few questions, maybe they could have figured out what I did on my own. Instead they treated me with rudeness and ignored my concerns.
