After getting a little bored with our normal breakfast spots, we ventured out to the Heights for a new scene. Given the positive yelp reviews, we opted for the Classic Cafe. When we walked in, a table was quickly cleared for us. Nice! The menus were extremely dirty and worn, which was probably an indication of things to come.... While their menu was extensive, I opted for some eggs over-easy, rye toast, sausage and hash browns and my guy got the Southern breakfast plate. After about 5 minutes, we were brought a plate of toast. You know it is bad when the person serving the toast drops it on your table and says "Is this too burnt for you?" The top pieces of toast looked ok, and I hate to be the person to send things back so we kept it. The toast ended up being inedible, with the bottom pieces being completely charred on both sides. As for the eggs, they were not cooked through properly and while the yolks were runny as I had ordered, so was the majority of the whites of the eggs. Gooey, clear whites on an egg? No thanks. My man's eggs were also not cooked properly and his beans served with the Southern plate were ice cold, same as my hash browns. Breakfast is a relatively easy meal to cook up and when half is undercooked/cold and the other is charred beyond belief, it leaves a bad taste in your mouth. The only saving graces were the sausages which were delicious and the cheap price. Needless to say, I will not be revisiting the Classic Cafe again. read more

We've been eating breakfast here every Saturday for at least 5 years. The omelets are packed with ingredients, you can order fresh raspberry pancakes year-round and the breakfast burrito is fab. If you go for lunch, Mim's lamb shanks are to die for. The coffee is good, the prices reasonable and the staff is very friendly. It's like our own CHEERS- everyone knows our names. I make it a point to support my local businesses and hadn't visited Classic Cafe in a while so I went today with my daughter to have breakfast. The decor was what I expected - dineresque - and our waitress was pleasant and responsive. We had eggs and bacon w/toast, coffee and orange juice. The coffee was terrible. The shocker didn't come until I got the bill - $20!! Yikes! This meal shouldn't have cost more than $12. Please Classic Cafe - you will get more patrons if you lower your prices. The classic Cafe is an Arlington neighborhood diner That offers a great breakfast (and lunch) menu with dozens of offerings, at very reasonable prices. Nothing fancy but a friendly, relaxing place. Among my favorites are their breakfast Burrito, many kinds of omlets, and their fruit and waffles which a waffle covered with a mountain of fresh fruit. read more

We love the Classic Cafe. If you have kids and want to be treated like family, this is the place for you. We enjoy the food (my husband can't find a true Irish Breakfast in many other places!). It may not be perfect, but the staff are real people who actually care about the people who come in. As far as price, it may not be super-cheap, but remember that it's tough to manage a local business and rents are high. They're not making a fortune off of customers, just getting by. read more

My weekend visit found an overall average experience. The portion size was plentiful, but it's just that the food was flavorless. Sausage, bacon, potatoes were all undercooked with no seasoning. There wasn't even any onions in the home fries. The sausage was unpleasant. Eggs were fine. Some other items on the menu looked attractive, but I'm not too motivated to return to try them. If I hear good things about waffles or french toast, I'll give them a shot. read more

Well I'm a college student..so every time I go back home to Arlington, me and my mom (sometimes my dad joins us) like to go out to eat to our FAVORITE local restaurant "Classic Cafe". My parents are really, really, really, picky when it comes to food and they are almost never satisfied when they go to try a restaurant. Though we've finally found the right place. When we come through the door a waitress always greats us with a warm welcome and a big smile, everyone in the restaurant greats each other, its a big family environment which makes you feel welcome every time. My mom gets the 1-1-1 combination which is a pancake with cranberry and blueberry's on top, i sausage, i bacon, i egg, and home fries. The waitress asks my mom how she would like her egg, bacon and sausage cooked. They are really good on details on the customers need. I got the Shepperd's Pie with a fresh salad and nice fresh tomatoes. Personally I thought my dads choice was the best; Belgian Waffles topped with fresh cut fruit . omg fruit had never looked so good before, usually the fruit in other places doesn't look fresh at all !!!! Also the waitress asked us if we wanted extra plates so we can share...:) The best part is even if u make up late as long as u go during their regular hours in which they are still open you can get breakfast anytime you want.. For instance you can go at 2 p.m and still get eggs or waffles or pancakes!!!!! You should really check this place out.. read more

This small diner is homey, warm and delicious. The waitstaff are very friendly (and they know their regulars!), and the food is inexpensive but tastey. There is a kid's section with toys and books. It's very kid-friendly: you should expect your children to be doted on by the owner! Vegetarians: try the blueberry pancakes with light powdered sugar. They are heavenly, and never greasy. Carnivores: the mediterranean "specials" are fantastic, and so is the classic eggs and bacon. read more

A cinderella of breakfast-lunch places accessible to all of north-east greater Boston, it is right on Mass Ave at Park. It is busy on week-ends but you will always be seated on a week-day right away, probably due to the recession. Mimi loves everyone who walks through the door and while prices are modest, more than ample portion sizes will fill you up. Get the breakfast burrito, the Belgian waffle, and especially when available the lamb shank is a wonderful specialty. I have never been disappointed and I have plenty of other choices available. Prices are a steal for the Boston area, so I can't understand these snarky bad reviews the place has gotten lately, people must think they were going to the Ritz-Carlton. read more

I have been a regular customer of the Classic Cafe for several years and recommend it without any reservations. It is an excellent family restaurant, with a very friendly wait staff, such as Gerta, and Paige. Mimoza, her wait staff, and her family greet all their customers as though they were part of her family. Mimoza gives you a warm welcome, and takes time to introduce her customers to each other. Her love for the children of all ages is expressed with a warm hug.Delicious food is served daily with an exstensive menu.Breakfast is served all day. Lamb shank, Shepherds Pie, American chop suey, an many home made Soups are on the menu. Mimoza, the owner Makes every effort to prepare and serve healthy meals. She also does catering at reasonable prices. Parties can also be held at her restaurant if requested. Mimoza takes pride in the food she serves, and as you leave she thanks you as though you were a guest in her house. This place had terrible food and terrible service. We received burnt pancakes, stale French toast, and way overcooked eggs from a polite but poorly skilled server. We were never offered refills for our drinks and it took almost 15 minutes before the waitress brought our check. This would've been ok except we were one of 3 small parties at the restaurant. Wouldn't recommend it to anyone. read more

I've been to this place a bunch of times but the last experience was so bad I'll never go back. We waited about an hour for our food because they forgot to put our order in. We saw three tables that came in after us order and get their food before we did. One table that came in after us ordered, ate, paid and left before we even got our food. The waitress didn't say anything to us about how long it was taking and didn't check on us at all. She and another waitress made sure they had time to sit down and have their food though. Waiting an hour for eggs that take 10 minutes to make is absolutely ridiculous. When we finally got our food, not only did it taste bad but each meal came out one at a time 10 minutes apart from one another which made for a horrible dining experience. The turkey in my girlfriends club sandwich was so slimy and she said it had a weird taste like it was going bad so she picked most of it out. Mine tasted microwaved and or friend sent gets back and didn't really eat it. Never going back. read more
