Lovely outdoor seating on 5th Avenue. Charming interior and a cozy French bar if that's what you prefer. Today, even though it was overcast and chilly, I wanted to maintain my persona of a hard core NY'er and decided to sit outside. I opted for the lunch Prix fix at $28 and it included Pumpkin falafel that was amazing and included some hot peppers and raspberry preserves. The flavors came together nicely. The chicken BLT included a small slice of avocado on a small french baguette. Small side of fries. Together to two plates filled me for lunch, and I was very satisfied. Service was excellent. Came here for brunch on a Saturday. Highly recommend reservations because this place was fully booked around 1pm. The interior is super cute and great atmosphere for brunch. We were seated about 30 minutes later than our reservation because an elderly group took their sweet time. A bit out of Claudette's hands so won't penalize them for it. I ordered the lamb burger and it was quite good. Their toppings complemented the lamb nicely, with a cumin mayo of some sort, tomatoes and pickled onions. The pickled onions were a pleasant surprise. The lamb was tender. I think my main critique I have is that the meat patty should fit the bun better. I got a lot of just pure bread bites which is a huge pet peeve of mine. The burger came with well-seasoned fries that were crisp and accompanied by the same mayo in the burger. I also had a small bite of their braised oxtail pasta dish and that was super delicious. Pasta was perfectly al-dente with a good tomato sauce and big pieces of oxtail. At the end of the meal, we got some complimentary madelines, perhaps for the wait and those were delicious. For a French place, I would expect good madelines which they fortunately accomplished. read more

Was able to get an outdoor table for two without reservations around 7:30-8 pm on Friday (we got lucky and arrived ahead of several groups). The staff were very friendly and the restaurant has a charming coastal French vibe and is situated on a quiet block of 5th. We ordered the Moroccan margarita and Alexa's old fashioned. The margarita was good, a little light on the rim salt. The old fashioned was also good but I thought was more akin to a Negroni than an old fashioned. The drinks were a little slow to arrive after we ordered. Food was overall very tasty- we had the artichokes (aioli the highlight), the roast chicken and branzino (both cooked perfectly with crispy skin but not dry at all inside), and the lemon tart and chocolate mousse (I'm normally a lemon person all the way but I kept going back to the mousse!). read more

Went here with some friends to grab a bite to eat for brunch on a Saturday. The restaurant was definitely full, but we were able to be seated upon arrival. As a table we started with the cucumber and date salad and the basket of pastries. The cucumber and date salad was very tasty and a pairing of flavors that I had never experienced before. I tried a few of the pastries and the chocolate croissants were to die for! So petite, but so delicious and rich--yum! For my main course I ordered the green beans and the lamb kefta. The green beans were very good--a bit overpriced--but they had great flavor nonetheless. The lamb was also very tasty and paired nicely with the yogurt. For dessert, we split the pot de creme and the madeleines. The madeleines were very average in my opinion, but the pot de creme was absolutely delicious--definitely a must order. I also induced in a couple of their espresso martinis here, which are divine. Overall, this place is a bit on the pricy side, but definitely does a great brunch. I celebrated my birthday here a few nights ago with two friends after each independently suggested Claudette. I was initially surprised that they both had it in their short list of restaurant suggestions since there are countless other restaurants to choose from in NYC. I understood why they both raved about it once I walked in. It's pretty, well appointed, and the air is full of amazing mouthwatering spices. I had the beef burger and the flavor was perfect. Our waiter was also so nice (and genuinely funny!). I can't remember his name but he wore round reading glasses and a black hat. The right waiter can turn a great night into a memorable one and he was really lovely. The location is also ideal as its steps from the Washington Square Park and it's towering arch (a beautiful view to admire as you wait outside the restaurant's doors for an Uber home). I highly recommend Claudette for any occasion - especially a date or a girls dinner night :) read more

I am a Claudette local. I live in the neighborhood and end up ordering takeout & delivery from the place. I also often will bring a book and sit at the bar or a table to have a quiet solo dinner. The food is *always* excellent, but I've had some pretty disappointing service experiences recently. I honestly don't know if I'll be back for some time. By way of observation, my working hypothesis is that the bar is understaffed and overwhelmed. It took 15 minutes for me to get a cocktail, and another 10 to just put my dinner order in. And that's for someone who knew exactly what he wanted! My other hypothesis is that there's a lack of "accountability" over bar service. I saw the manager roaming around chatting with staff but not with customers; the two bartenders were busy mixing drinks for the rest of the restaurant--they were completely absent from serving people at the bar; and three different servers appeared at various points when they saw I was getting frustrated (once after that first fifteen minute period to actually take my drink order, again because I was sitting with my finished appetizer plate for a good 10 minutes, and finally because I asked the bartender for the check, he never brought it, so finally a waitress came by with a mobile credit processing device). The whole experience was really not nice. This sounds sort of silly when I say it, because I recognize it's a first world problem situation to complain about service (particularly when the food itself was great), but i left the restaurant feeling so disappointed and frustrated that (a) I decided to share my experience publicly here, and (b) I almost felt like I was being punished or treated differently--everyone else seemed to be getting better service, was it something I did? Something about me? Was it because I'm a solo diner with a book? I don't get it... I love that Claudette exists (great concept, great location, etc.), I've had delicious food and drink there, but I'm definitely taking a break from the place--the service actually made me feel bad and put me in a cranky mood! read more

Really enjoyed this place. Cute ambiance, perfect for a date, and won't break the bank. The grilled haloumi was great and so was the sweet potato falafel (which didn't really taste like falafel). Only thing I would NOT recommend is the beet salad - the beet and horseradish were good, but the bitter radicchio really took over and ruined the salad. Food is mediocre. Drinks are fine. Service is very poor. The lamb burger was bland without any flavour whatsoever. Meat had no salt or seasoning. Bun was dry and too flaky. But it's the servers responsibility to ask how a customer is doing. We were told before we were sat that we had 1 1/2hrs to eat from time of reservation. Yet, the only time anyone came to our table was to: tell us they needed the table back by a certain time (again), to take our order, and for us to pay. If you don't check how a table is doing, what's the point of tipping you? If you dont care about the customer, maybe you should serve yourselves and pay yourselves, no? Got a last minute reservation here on a Friday night. The interior is really cute and cozily decorated. There's a bookshelf on the wall that gives it a bistro feel. The food was pretty good. Probably wouldn't go again, but it was good to try it. We got the truffle hummus which was good, but didn't have that much truffle in it. I got the roasted chicken which was okay, but kind of greasy and oily without that much flavor. However the croutons and vegetables that came on the side were delicious. Who doesn't love a good fusion restaurant? From the name it seems like it's just French cuisine, but they infuse Moroccan flavors into their dishes. Our table got the lamb tagine, salmon, chicken, sea bass, burrata, and fries. The lamb was amazingly tender, salmon had a nice crispy skin and mint based purée, the chicken was very succulent, and the sea bass was delicious! This is definitely a treat your self, splurge type of restaurant, but they do use great flavors that you wouldn't usually get elsewhere. Even the fries had some Moroccan spices on it. Drinks A decent selection of wines that skewed toward the more expensive but you could still find a good bottle on the lower end of the price scale. I was disappointed to hear that they had run out of sherry for our dessert aperitif but hey, can't ever go wrong with a finger of Bulleit. Food Mmmm, yum yum. What a treat! Indeed, the menu certainly has a certain Mediterranean flare. We had the Pasta Roger which had a quick kick to it. I had the whole grilled black bass which was a hell of a meal. It required some manual labor to pick out all the bones, but the effort was well worth it in the end for that succulently tender bass meat.
