This is a place i have tried in 3 occasions. Each time I love the service and the food. Place is small but always packed. The service is excellent as is the food. The pizza is very good. The lasagna is terrific. The rigatoni is also very good. Being a first generation Italian i love to here my parents native tongue and the food doesn't disappoint. Sadly I forgot my server. Made reservations for brunch on a holiday Saturday. The neighborhood vibe and interior decorations definitely carried the awesome holiday spirit. The place wasn't as busy, noise levels on the lower end, friendly staff, and the old school exposed brick wall is what the ambiance was all about. Our order: PAPPARDELLE PORCINI ($25), FUSILLI AL PESTO ($22), and Rigatoni with butter and cheese. The pappardelle was the best dish on our table. Excellent mushroom, brilliant pasta. If I was rating just on food I would say three stars -- kind of average Italian food. But factoring in pretty lame service and high prices makes it two stars. The grilled calamari is delicious. The vongole pasta is ok as is the branzino. Solid unspectacular. The tiramisu though is really awful -- watery and flavorless. And the gelato was also disappointing. Everyone was getting the lasagna -- maybe that's the way to go. But they never served us bread -- we had to ask for it and never noticed empty glasses to ask if we wanted a second drink. The space is more hectic and cramped than rustic and charming. If you're in the neighborhood and want a small bite I'm sure you could do worse but I can think of many less expensive Italian restaurants in Manhattan and Queens I've liked better. read more

Very disappointed in the service and food. It took over 30 minutes to receive bread . 20 Of those minutes are prosciutto and buffalo was sitting on the table. The mozzarella was freezing cold & while we waited for the bread they decided to bring out our pastas and had to send it back after seeing we were still waiting for bread. Once we finally got our pastas; they sent me the wrong order. We did finally received the order ; lasagna and pesto. The pesto was worst then store bought. We're going to Genoa in July and I cannot wait to have real pesto. Overall, horrendous service and food. Not once did our server apologize or ask us how things we were going. This whole experience was perfection. It felt like an intimate experience, with great service and great food. All staff was so attentive and attractive (added bonus). They are experts at customer service and apparently body language because before I could even say anything, they'd ask if I needed anything. They even re-lit our candle without asking. As you know, candles are very important to the atmosphere an vibe. We were able to make a reservation about an hour prior. Came here on a whim and I am so glad I did. This is SUCH a hidden gem for sure, because no one talks enough about this place. We loved everything that we had here, and just about everything surprised me with how good it was (not that I was expecting it to be bad), most of all the squid dish - WOW. I'm not even huge on squid but it was soooo nicely cooked, so tender, so juicy and well seasoned, with a variety of notes coming through -- I was shook. The pasta of course handmade, al dente, and with fresh ingredients. No notes. The bread - soft, a great complement. The steak??? juicy, meaty, with big salt pieces and those giant flakes of parmesan WOW. What great bites. The tiramisu? Also a hit. I mean... just delicious. Great work. I'm still in search of a causal Italian restaurant that makes high quality pasta with chic NYC vibe but with a neighborhood joint charm. I think Malaparte pretty much hits all the marks. We started with the calamari and brocolli rabe. As we were chewing, we regretted ordering these two together because they gave us quite a workout for our jaws. The dishes were tasty but we were getting very tired of chewing as they were both so chewy. I think both dishes could have used a little more sear. The pastas were great, very fresh and perfectly cooked. However, I like my food to come out hot and steamy. Mafalde with pesto was nice and hot because the noodles are kind of piled on so the inside remained hot, while cappellacci caprese was not very hot when I received the dish. I did love the tomato basil sauce it came with it though, so fresh! I don't know when the pasta dishes (without protein) started being charged in the high $20s, but that seems to be the going rate everywhere these days. At least Malaparte has a strong pasta game. I will most likely return when I'm craving pasta again. read more

Came with a friend for a nice catch up dinner during the week. We got seated in the outdoor heated tent, which was quieter and easier to have a conversation. Inside was quite loud and lively, and pretty packed. Definitely make a reservation. The food was good! The pasta was freshly and full of flavour. There was a bit of a mix up with payment at the end of the night. Our server got the cards mixed up with other tables that were seated under the outdoor tent and then at one point; they couldn't find one of our cards. Walked in on a random Thursday evening around 7pm and we were told the wait was about an hr. Make sure you get reservations in advance! At the moment they didn't even have seats at the bar, so of course we waited. The wait was definitely worth it. The food was absolutely amazing- the spaghetti was creamy and tasty. The lasagna's sauce was so delicious. Maybe they were having an off night. These things happen. But, this was not a good overall experience. Let's start from the top. The hostess did accommodate my request to move outside and it was much appreciated as the weather was lovely. I got seated right away. Nice. The street corner this place is on is lovely outside as well. Kind of crazy and chaotic inside when things get busy. Otherwise, the hostess was generally curt and not the sort of person you want to put front of house. She made it seem like she was annoyed to do her job or when I asked for a fork. Also, when interfacing with an iPad, it's key to not use that as a wall to the person as best you can. Again, maybe she was having an off night. Second, the waiter was having some sort of emergency and was on his mobile right in front of me for 10 minutes while I waited for service. Now, emergencies happen. NOT his fault. But to the manager of this place, you pinch hit and put another athlete on the field. You don't wait until I walk into the restaurant to ask for service. Now, my friend (who is notoriously late) hadn't arrived so they may have thought I was waiting but the key thing to do is to ask. Prosciutto and melon appetizer. Good. Solid 3. Love the sea salt on the salad. Pino Nero was delicious. Had 2 glasses. Pappardelle with Pork Ragu. Ouch. No good. The sauce was terrible. Watery and without richness of any kind. Take that off the menu immediately. It's an embarrassment to Italian roots. As someone who was in Italy 4 months ago, this would have been laughably unacceptable there. For dessert, we had the chocolate mousse and flourless chocolate cake. Both good but completely uninspired for an Italian restaurant. And back to the service. Once our waiter was back in the game, he never asked how we were doing and it always felt like we needed to flag him down. Weird. All in all, this is a pass. read more

Malaparte really lived up to its name, as in bad or evil part, as far my and my girlfriend's dining experience went last night. Last start with the service ... hardly showed up to the table, forgot orders, made us move to the bar since the next reservation was showing up, and once we got to the bar, the bartender didn't ask us if we wanted anything. We were virtually ignored. The food ... was salty to the point of that we woke up this morning both feeling like the Pillsbury Dough Boy. Salt is the easy route and so disappointing. I had the lasagne, she had the rigatoni ... we were wincing. It's a cute place, warm atmosphere but again, terrible service, and highly compromised, lackluster salty food. This place is a MUST visit! I had the lasagna and it was life changing. I honestly didn't know ricotta could be so creamy and smooth. My husband had the Rigatoni al Pesto Trapanese and it was also creamy, flavorful, and filling. We ended the meal with tiramisu and the chocolate mousse. A truly wonderful and lovely wine bar to have an evening at for dinner, drinks, and good times. I really loved this place, a very cozy and quaint restaurant with an intimate dining atmosphere, dark but sexy and comfortable. Had a holiday party to go to here at 7:30 but since I'm always early I got there at 7 and went to the bar to have a glass of wine. The bartender was very nice and personable, and everyone is authentic Italian, very culturally in sync with the vibe and very friendly with customers. Had 2 glasses of wine, a Chianti and a Pinot Noir, both very good. Then had a bowl of Lentil Soup, special of the day, warm, delicious and flavorful. Party shows up and I move to the table. We have lots of apps and laughs. The Pizza was alright, not too special, but the Burrata was very good. I had the Papardelle with Beef Ragu (Sub Pork) and it was also very well done. Malaparte has a strong reputation in the area so figured to give it a go. The place is small and tables are tight but that is nyc. We started with the beet salad and tuna salad app. Both were delicious. The rigatoni pesto and paparedelle bolognese were lovely. Could have been a little more al dente but all good. The pork chop special was a play on milanese style but the pork chop bad a parmesan topping. It was good as well. There were only two desserts that didn't jump out to us so didn't go for it. Wine selection was good too. I would recommend and come back. 4 stars. read more

Great location and a cozy ambiance. You can tell this is a well-loved neighborhood spot because it's always busy! The service, I will say, was kind of hit or miss, and it was honestly a little hard to decipher between a server and a patron of the restaurant (half the time). BUT, the lasagna was some of the best that I've had and I'll DEF need to order that next time I come back. The pesto was decent, but the lasagna was better, and I wasn't a big fan of the tiramisu.
