We moved near Clays over 10 years ago and we're SO excited to see this near us. We thought it would be our spot for the kids to play while we all eat and relax right near the house. BUT, the food is so bad we go once a year. It's not that anything is inedible, it's that we've never found anything very good. Of course, fries are fries and cheeseburgers are cheeseburgers so the kids are fine so we end up there every once in awhile. Everything else is a little off- like overcooked, cold, weird flavor. Gumbo is good! It's a great place for sports teams to go for end of season parties though and gets crowded at those times. I bet live music would go a long way there on weekends though. I enjoyed this place and really like the country / ranch feel. We came here on Nee Years day and it wasn't busy at all. The special for the day was a NY strip with 2 sides for $14.99. Think it was a 16oz steak - not exactly sure. Anyway steak was pretty good and was cooked ok. I think I asked for medium and it was medium rare - I was fine with that just glad I didn't ask for a med rare and got a rare:-) The 2 sides I got were fries and green beans. Both were good. My wife got the fish tacos and they were grilled. She devoured them so I'm gonna assume they were great. Son had mac and cheese and fries and well, that's hard to mess up. Service was horrible. The server was extremely rude, refused to disclosed her name to my disabled son, and made a discriminatory comment about denying service to disabled customers. All of her offenses occured after I realized that my credit card was missing. When I demanded for my credit card back the server got super offensive and upset even saying that Robert the manager has banned us, that was all news to me as this was never expressed to us. I truly believe that the cashier in complicity with the server, attempted to steal my credit card. Food was nasty and cold. Server never checked on us, except when she brought up our cold and nasty and dirty crawfish. I request to speak with the manager in charge that afternoon but no one came to the table, every one was in the back office laughing. The restaurant had probably 3 tables, so they were not busy at all. I had asked Linda one of a former employees to stop by at out table but she never did. This used to be a favored restaurant when my kids were young. We came here so often with family, friends, & scouts. We revisited it for a weekday lunch recently. The young girl at the counter greeted us with very little enthusiasm. When asked about frozen margarita flavors, she simply pointed to the frozen machines. I had a Shannon Burger. It was good, but a little dry. My husband had a chicken fried steak. It was also dry with little seasoning.. The server came by one time to check on us. Recently, I had been having severe cravings for comfort food and decided to visit Clay's. Its a pretty big sized barn with plenty of sitting area, picnic area, playing around area. They hosts a lot of parties and there are sections barricaded for events. They also have a nice petting area with animals, which are usually present on weekends. I went ahead and ordered a chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes n gravy. I wanted to get the green beans and inquired with the cashier of whether it contains bacon and was assured NO. As my food order came, the first thing I noticed was the strips of cut up bacon laced with the green beans. I immediately asked for a different side item and was given the choice of broccoli. They brought it out within 5 minutes. The fried steak was pretty good and I really liked the gravy too. Mashed potatoes were seasoned and it was a nice southern comfort food. There was plenty of space for seating and I helped my self to refills. They have a vast selection of items but the fried steak is one of their best items. We went to attend my daughters high school aquatics banquet. $25 each, except she was paid for by the teams. The banquet was fun but crowded. The food was burgers and fries with soft drinks. Serve yourself with a cheeseburger, lettuce, tomato, onions, and pickles. Thick burgers would have been good if they had any flavor. If you've made burgers and not added any seasoning, you know the taste. The fries were good, krinkle cut, crisp, and soft on the inside. There was plenty of ketsup, mayonnaise, and mustard to get. Went to a birthday party in their Lodge Room. Room was nice. Service was awful. You go to the counter to order, they charge you an 18% gratuity. They also charge separate for use of room. The burger was good but, the crawfish was really ass ! They were dirty, super salty, and tiny. I guess that's what you get for spending 6 dollars a pound on crawfish! Extra seasoning was a dollar each pound and a tiny cup of butter to dip was a dollar as well. We ate crawfish Friday night a Clays. They were like eating a salt lick! They also tasted like mud! so that tells you they weren't properly cleaned. I'm Cajun and have been eating them for 50+ years. These were probably the worst I've ever had. I made it known to a server and his response was "I don't eat crawfish". what does him not eating crawfish have to do with what i was telling him? I believe the service should be allowed to keep their own tips. I also work in the service industry and I find that tip pool generally causes lazier servers to not do as much work while Superstars shine and make the money. While the lazy people reap the rewards. I went to place to go order at my table after eating my crawfish and one server told me that I would have to get back in line. I didn't catch her name. All I know is she had dark hair that was colored red. Although I was able to place my Togo order with Ximena and she took my order and payment without any problem at all. Again, I work in the service industry and my company that I work for also uses Toast POS systems and I know that y'all have handhelds so it is confusing how the other server told me I had to get back in line when I've ordered at the table numerous times. Decided to try Clay's since it's been a long time since we've visited it for dinner! Pulled up at 8:30pm and took pictures of the gorgeous chandelier at the entrance! We let a couple go ahead of us since we were still deciding on what to order! The "new" look is beautiful! We were so excited to see if the menu had changed or if our favorite fried mushrooms were still offered? We finally get to the counter and before we place our order... the woman behind the counter states "just want to let you know we close at 9pm!" I asked her what time it was and she says it's 8:40pm... her attitude was so cold and unwelcoming that we just left! As we walked out we noticed the huge chandelier at the entrance was now off?? The "open" sign was also turned off? Wow! The owners spent lots of money to remodel but they apparently failed to train their "counter help" on how business works? Politeness, eagerness to serve and punctuality would've helped... when a restaurant has closing hours posted (9pm, in this case) it would be nice to know we aren't wasting our time when we enter their establishment at 8:30pm? Spend your money elsewhere... even if their food is good, BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE is not worth it! read more

We've eaten at Clays many times for the past ten + years. I know all businesses and restaurants are suffering due to short staffs/Covid but... my advice to you is to save your money and skip Clays until they get back to normal. We are there twice last week and both experiences were subpar at best. Each time the restaurant only had a few other tables. The line at the register took 15+ min with only one or two groups ahead of us. The food was not the normal quality and several items in our order were messed up. The staff is overworked and very put out by simple requests. 3 of us had margaritas and they were not good. Hoping Clays returns to their normal fun, friendly atmosphere as the workforce shortage improves. In the meantime I'd suggest going elsewhere. Definitely not worth the cost for poor service and mediocre food. read more

Clay's has the worst customer service ever. If I could give this restaurant zero stars I would. We placed an order today, waited on our order for a very long time, and it never came. We finally asked the hostess if she could check on our order and she said she would have the manager come see us. A waitress came and gave us a refund for the food but didn't say anything. I come to find out that this waitress is actually the manager! This "manager" did not apologize, did not offered to correct the situation, and she literally just stood there and stared at me with no concern. First time here and was disappointed with the food. I was invited to a BD party for brisket and chicken and sides. Brisket was dry and didn't have hardly any seasoning the only way I could give it flavoring was by covering it in Bbq sauce.
