My husband and I finally made our way to Clean Slate last night for some wine and tapas. I had an awesome customized wine flight (5 wines for $15) from the owner Jason, and my husband had a glass of the Scholium Project Cinsault. We have been living in Solvang for less than a year but have been wine tasting in the SYV for almost 10 years. We have tried a lot of wines from this area, but Clean Slate has all small batch wines from local winemakers that you may not have heard of. We also ordered the flatbread of the week (chili verde) and Manchego stuffed dates wrapped in Serano ham - both were delicious. Jason and his wife were INCREDIBLE! We had a great time tasting wine and hanging out. Did a wine tasting, which was supposed to have 5 wines, ended up drinking 8 wines. We also bought a bottle of wine and are sad we didn't buy two. We got some great recommendations from Jason about how to spend our time here. We are SO glad we found this place in Solvang instead of waiting 30 minutes for a table at a restaurant nearby for lunch. This place is lovely! An incredible selection of local wines for tasting and by the glass or bottle (bottles for sale too), and we had the most the delicious lunch of shared small plates. The best meat balls I've had in a very long time, excellent pate and goat cheese, and delicious pimiento cheese crostinis. My boyfriend and I came here for our first night in Solvang and absolutely loved it! Although we ideally were coming for dinner but they only have small plates/apps, their food was still absolutely delicious and I'm glad we decided to stay. The chef makes a new menu weekly based on seasonal ingredients which is so special! They have a great wine selection and our waitress took time to give us many recommendations of wineries and other restaurants for our weekend. My husband and I stopped here on our way home from an anniversary trip and it was as good as it gets in terms of wine bars. The food was out of this world amazing and the wines were of excellent quality and locally sourced. We had several appetizers and a flatbread, red and white wine and loved everything that we ordered. We came here after wine tasting near Solvang. It was walking distance from our hotel and dog friendly. First off, I've had a dog for a year and have learned there's a huge difference between dogs allowed and dog FRIENDLY. This place is super, super dog friendly. Dog bowls with water everywhere and every single person working there came by to meet our puppy. Multiple other parties had puppies with them too. The servers were soooo friendly and so helpful. The only reason this place isn't a 5 star is while the food was very tasty, the portion sizes to price were a bit off in my opinion. I understand the concept of tapas and chose this place because I love tapas but trust me when I say this was unusually small portion size. We shared a lot of stuff (their menu seems to change often) and liked everything but literally were planning to order the exact same meal over again but the kitchen closed before we had a chance. We ended up grabbing more food at a bar on our way back to our hotel because we were all still hungry. That said, if you're looking for some wine and a snack, this is definitely the place to go, especially if you have an attention hungry dog with you. read more
