I ate lunch at cleared with my family only one of us got a meal that wasn't burned or awful. All the burgers were very over cooked with burnt buns. The kids didn't even want the buns they were black. Pasta was like eating paste thick tasteless mush. And I ordered the shrimp got 4! That's all. The tacos were too spicy, the burgers burnt and the pasta mushy thick garbage. It used to be a great place to go but not now. I spent over $100.00 for my family to eat and none of us enjoyed it. read more

What is the definition of a good Irish pub? Guinness in an actual Guinness glass I would say. Not a sticky stained 16oz pint glass. When your server delivers it there should NOT be a disgusting fruit fly on the middle of the cream head that she doesn't even see as plain as day in front of her. Pints should placed on the table in front of you. Not SLAMMED down that a huge chunk of the beer jumps out of the glass. When you ask your server for a few minutes to decide on dinner and not to get harassed to place an order. Clearly the servers in Cleary's are looking to turn tables and don't care about service. Burn & Turn. I've been coming to Cleary's for quite sometime, every time I land in Detroit I make it my mission to visit. After today's visit I doubt I'll ever want to spend money is this place again. My server Allison hadn't a clue.....rushed me and my family into making decisions. As soon as we placed our food order, BANG she disappeared and I had to go to the bar to order our next round of drinks. The food runner slammed our plates onto the table. I asked for malt vinegar and he as good as cracks the bottom of the bottle on the table he slammed it so hard. Several new servers in the process of training (fair enough) ......Allison needs to be retrained When I get my Guinness with a huge fruit fly I return it to the bar and asked for another, Allison plants it on the corner of table without so much as an apology. 4 below average dinners and a few drinks. $100+ tab. Ordered a Pizza with double pepperoni- got a cheese pizza-so bland. Ordered a chips & salsa app w/guac. Guac was ok, but the salsa came in a thumb size container- chips were 80% stale. What a happy-making find. Cleary's Pub is totally unassuming... it looks just like, well, a pub. But it actually has pretty good food. Not just that, CREATIVE food. It's very rare I see a Guinness burger with wasabi mayo. Okay, actually, I've never seen it anywhere else. Stuff like that. Delicious-sounding (and very good -tasting) meals that you won't see anywhere else. The atmosphere is fine--lots of seating, some music, some TVs. There was MMA fighting playing on almost all of the TVs; that was a little gross to watch while eating. Why just a 3? We weren't WOWed. We were impressed, and happily surprised to see that creative menu... but it's not like we'll be making special trips to Cleary's. read more

The burgers are really good. I don't know that I have had anything here but a burger, but the burgers are tasty. You can't go wrong with the Blue Cheese and Mushroom burger, which I ordered on my last visit. I asked for it medium well and it was served that way, but was still juicy and yummy. It came with fries and was a lot of food. One of my dining companions ordered a different burger and hers came with chips - they were rippled and thick - not your ordinary out of the bag potato chips. There is a wide variety of sandwiches and other items on the menu. They have lunch specials during the week, as well. Cleary's is a typical Irish Pub. In addition to typical beer selections, they have lots of Michigan beer on tap - Dark Horse, Bell's, Shorts. I like that. The service is really friendly and helpful. There is plenty of parking behind the bar and a rear entrance in addition to the entrance right of M52. Downtown Chelsea has lots of shopping and restaurants. Cleary's is definitely worth a stop. read more

I really cant knock this place basing it off of one visit on a Saturday night, but the atmosphere is awesome. We ended up sitting at the bar and had a hard time getting the bartenders attention. We got our meal out before my side salad too. Anyways, I would try this place out again...maybe adding more help behind the bar would be my only suggestion. read more

Came to Cleary's Pub after a gig in town for Sights and Sounds. One of the locals recommended the place over some of the others in town. Now, it is a pub so I know it was going to be quite loud. But wow, it was pretty loud in there and hard to hear the company I was with, which is why I gave it three stars. However the food was fairly decent. The sweet potato fries with the special sauce were delicious. But as I've said in other reviews, I'm a fan of the sweet potato. The food is your usual suspects on a bar menu- burgers, sandwiches and fried entrees. I got the pub sandwich with chicken. The sandwich is smothered in cheese, jalapenos and mushrooms and I quite liked it. I know that some of my group got the portabella sandwich and although they liked it, they wished the mushrooms were whole and not chopped up. The person who got the Guinness burger really enjoyed it and said it was delicious. I think if you stick to your standard pub fare, you will be happy with this place. If you're coming in here to watch a game, you'll have more than enough tv's to keep your attention, but if you're coming in to catch up on old times you might have a harder time listening to each other. read more

Definitely not impressed with the burger. Went here the other day with my parents, wife, and son. I had the Guinness Burger (described on the menu as "1/2 lb. of freshly Ground Burger mixed with Guinness, Onions and a blend of Herbs and Spices layered with sauteed Mushrooms, Bacon and a Soy Wasabi Mayonnaise on a Grilled Pretzel Roll") and asked for it medium. It came *well*! That should be the only thing I need to say about it. But also, if it *did* have the Guinness, onions and a blend of herbs and spices mixed in, I didn't taste them, they didn't add anything, and it seemed like just ground beef. The pretzel roll was good. The House Salad was fine. No complaints, but nothing special. The Beer Battered Pickles were good. Above average fried pickles. The server described the beer well when I asked about it and it was good. I liked it. I can't remember the name (it isn't on their online menu), but it was the last draft listed and is an amber ale. The French Dip sandwich was inedible: dry well done sliced beef on a pale roll that resembled an oversized hotdog bun. Basically paid $10 to eat fries. I'm so hungry now. Great atmosphere and staff. HOWEVER, I object to their marketing Zander or "pike-perch" as perch. Should've know from the price that it was too good to be true. But when it arrived, then I knew. The fillets would've come from a near record size (over 16") fish. And there were three or four of them!! The taste was not terrible. But they were not the firm and sweet yellow perch found in the Great Lakes. Pretty bland. A good batter job almost saved them. The sweet potato fries and Bell's Two Heated IPA were the real consolation he. Come to beautiful Chelsea and to Cleay's Pub. But don't order the "perch" if you know what true lake perch can be. read more

My husband and I went there for an meal. Fish and chips for me, brown sugar hamburger for my husband. The burger was thick and tough, but had good flavor. He couldn't finish it. I couldn't finish my fish and chips either. The fish was mushy and tasteless. Cole slaw was warm and had a bad bitter taste. We both had upset stomachs and bloating when we left, and I had more digestive problems the next day. I wonder if I had food poisoning. The service was awful. We spent more time trying to be noticed so we could order, asking for service and asking to leave than we did eating our meal. I saw people that came in after us get served before us. Great people, great food and fun atmosphere. This is a weekly stop for my wife and me. Fridays and Saturdays are packed, but worth the wait. There's always good music/entertainment on Friday and Saturday, but if you get a chance to come on the 2nd weekend of the month, Tommy Foster will be performing. The place is a really good pub! We late Saturday night. The service was awesome, our waitress was really nice. Asked her for recommendations and she actually had some... most say "everything is good"we got chicken strips-pretty good. I got a chicken club that was really good, the brioche bun was great! Hubby got Reuben that was just good. French fries were ok, not totally fresh but it was like 930pm... Friendly place, great service. The bathrooms could use some work, I'll leave it at that. A restaurant can be judged two ways: 1. With a Yelp review 2. By the character of it's nachos. In this post I will judge Cleary's in both ways as I complain about their poor nachos. First, the chips were pretty lackluster. They were like a standard issued chip from Gordon Food Service. Okay, it's not a Mexican Place so what did I expect? Well, maybe something closer to the Tostito family. Next, the salsa was bland and definitely not home made. It was 100 percent plastic-bottled goodness from a bulk foods store. Toppings were basic: there was beef, but no offer of black beans, chicken, steak, or pulled pork like everyone else has. Cheese, lettuce, tomatoes and a few jalapenos rounded out the plate, but they were all meh. You can do much better than the nachos. Bar was cool though. Beer was well priced and you could do worse for dinner. read more

Walking into this place, you wouldn't think you were in for a great meal. Having been there more than once, it now feels more like that cool place that doesn't look like much but always has fantastic food and a good atmosphere. It's a pub, people. Don't come here expecting fine dining - at its heart, its a pub. Try the burgers (yum), or the roast beef french dip (double yum), or the creative wraps and specials.... then you'll be quite happy. While the service is not the best - they do seem to be chronically understaffed - have a beer and relax. For a "small town" like Chelsea, this place has pretty good atmosphere. It is for sure a family friendly type local restaurant, but infused with some pub-like elements, dimmed lights, etc. There was a mix of families, old-timers, local yokals and for sure some hipsters and yuppies in the mix. The vibe was pretty good. On this visit I wasn't eating, just drinking so i can't review the food. The service was good, I think the owner was in the bar the entire time talking to everyone so that was nice. The beer was cold and the waitress was very friendly so I really can't say a bad word about the trip. I will go back to try the food for sure. If you are swingin through Chelsea stop and give Cleary's a try. read more

Cleary's is right on the main street in Chelsea. Generally no problem parking and not a bad place to stroll in nice weather. The food overall is pretty good. I would highly recommend the Stuffed Cheesy Bread sticks (as long as you are in to bread sticks stuffed with cheese and dipped in ranch dressing). I very much enjoy the beef nachos and they are reasonably priced. Please note that if you order the chicken variety they will be $2 more. It is a fairly small restaurant, probably 4 booths, 8 tables and the bar. Definitely bar-style food but pretty tasty. My girlfriend recommends the taco salad and the sandwiches are good as well. We generally make a trip there at least once a month from Ann Arbor so for reference is it worth at least a 20-30 minute drive for us. I will say that depending on when you go (weekend, night, etc.) the service is not always the best. We've had it where there was just one or two servers and drink refills were kind of slow. Overall I would definitely recommend you at least give it a try. read more

By far, the best Irish pub in Chelsea, MI. The Cleary Burger (a meaty third pounder) was worth shaving a few years off of my life. Served with basic bar fries. Beyond the basic pub fare, you can opt for the Grilled Blackened Tuna or the Mongolian Beef Noodle Salad, both of which looked fantastic. The entree of the month was absolutely fantastic, a rich crab crusted roasted salmon topped with crab stuffing on a bed of garlic-green beans and lobster bisque sauce. The staff is friendly and the atmosphere is warm and homey. Reminds me of some of the pubs we've been to in Haverhill. Arrive early for live Irish tin whistle and bagpipes on St.Patrick's day; standing room only after the sun sets. Smithwick's, Guiness and Bell's on draft, but a Sam Adams is their beer of the month. read more

The atmosphere is definitely that of a bar/pub, but the menu is more than pub burgers. Cleary's is hidden gem of dining in downtown Chelsea. I am always amazed at the variety and creativity of items on the menu. I have never had a bad meal here. Sometimes there is a wait but it is well worth it. Highly recommended. read more

One star for location. This is our second attempt for Cleary's. We arrived @ 8:45 pm on Saturday and only 3 other couples in there. Odd for a pub. They have an Irish theme going in the name and decor but not on the menu. Odd no shepard's pie or corned beef. We started with calamari. Definitely from a Gordon frozen bag. Yuk. I ordered the Tuna sandwich special. It was ok. Nothing to say omg I have to have more. Again edible. Husband had baked cod. Came still frozen and uncooked. For the first time ever, he had to return meal. Waitress was gracious and let us decide what he wanted to do. I remember our first time there. It was good. Burgers or wraps all around. We paid with a card. Friends picked up cash tip. Signed the receipt with total handwritten. Received our statement with an added 20% tip!!!! That was an ugly phone call. Surprised we went back.
