I am a local, and have eaten here many, many times. You know the fish and chips are the very best - usually. Well I met my husband on my dinner break from work. Note that we have been restaurant owners for over 20 years. My fish was about 7 small little pieces and I had fries. My husband had a grilled chicken and fries. Well the grease had not been changed, and needed it desperately. The fries and fish were not edible. When we mentioned this to our waitress (reason for the star), she offered other choices since I didn't want anything from the fryer. I was then told everything else had an up-charge! Really?! She kindly got the manager. Well guess what? She said they clean the grease on Monday nights (this was Monday at dinner time), which would mean tonight. This does not help. We knew the grease was old and overused! She wouldn't offer anything other than those disgusting fries without charging more. Really?! We paid for the chicken sandwich and left!!! I am so shocked and disappointed. I won't be back after all of these years. So, so sad. read more

Success on the salmon salad is when the fish is cooked all the way, forget any flavor. Also, I was around at closing time, when I saw the waitress cleaning the tables with her spray cleaner. She did not attempt to move the salt and pepper shakers, whose tops were covered in spray, which she never wiped off. It's on okay spot for a beer (without food) and conversation, but only if the Chelsea Ale House is too busy. read more

My boyfriend goes deer hunting out by Chelsea and decided to stop in and try this place a few years ago. They have the best steak sandwiches and excellent burgers!! We took a detout on the way home from up north to go here over the week-end. Very good!!!! read more

Cleary's Pub in Chelsea is a great place to "Cleary" your mind and relax. In the wonderful quaint small town of Chelsea that is both progressive as well as old fashioned in that friendly old Norman Rockwell-esque way, Cleary's gives you the best of both worlds. Its is a small, dimmly lit Pub with all the charms of an old brick local bar that features the ideal environment for "A burger and a beer." But the burger selection as well as the entire menu is no joke. It has a great selection of items and Nightly specials that are quite tasty and even stimulate the more sophisticated palate. The beer selection is both standard and unique. As a Michigander and lover of Kalamazoo, I know they will always have a couple of Bells Beers on tap. I do wish they had more drink and/or beer specials for a more economical night of spirits, but at least the food items are reasonably priced. Most weekends have entertainment. Local singer/songwriters, or ear friendly Onemanbanders (brown eyed girl anyone?) grace the 2X2 stage for a nice intimate show or back ground music. But if you get a hankering for Cleary's fare on the weekend, get there early or wait till later because the demand for tables is quite high. Belly up at the bar is a great alternative but those stools are scarce as well on a Friday night. That being a good sign of course, you will be greeted by friendly people likely with the last name "Cleary." Enjoy. I do usually once a week. read more

Sunday was very disappointing to chose this place to eat over Jets Pizza. It took a long time to get anything we needed once food was dropped off. The potato skins were dry and overcooked and the pizza was soggy with grease and burnt. I would not recommend going here again. Jest pizza is a 5 star compared to this place. read more

My wife and I stopped in for a beer and appetizer on Father's Day. The staff was friendly and polite. Well the nice lady that bar tended that day must not know how to poor a Guinness. Otherwise the everything was good. I had to hold back a couple stars because of the incorrect poor of the Guinness. If you have the Guinness harp on the door please teach your staff how to poor it correctly. read more

Terrible service. First the server had 3 tables seated one after the other. We were the first seated. Rather than take the orders in the sequence of seating we ended up having to wait till she took everyone else's order. Then she dropped of what we thought was part of our order so we started to eat it. She came back and told us that she had made a mistake and the dish we were eating was not part of our order and that we had the option of continuing to eat it and pay for it or she could take it away. I almost started laughing. We had her take it away. When the food arrived - Mesquite Grilled Chicken wrap and the Blue Cheese Mushroom Burger. The wrap smelled like perfume and the tortilla tasted like dough. The size of the burger patty was tiny. 8 cm in diameter which is about 3 inches. Will not return. read more

Very disappointed had a decent meal with a friend and a take home for my wife. Waitress took order and repeated back to me. Got home order was all I ask was leave off the sour cream. Can't even follow simple instructions. I called back to complain said they would replace it next time I come in. I don't normally eat there. So I guess I may get a gift card in the mail because I live in Ypsilanti about 20 miles away. If your getting take out check it before you leave. read more

My kids and I visited a few weeks ago and were very pleasantly surprised. We hadn't been here for a couple years. My boys love ribs and were excited to see that they were on the menu. We have been to the place down the street and were less than impressed. My boys told me that the ribs here were the best they have had. They keep asking to go back. The cheeseburger sliders and the chips were also very good. I just wish they had a good veggie burger option like the one at Zukey Lake. The Dexter Pub also doesn't have a good option along those lines, I'm not a fan of their turkey burger. The waitress was very friendly and we really enjoyed our visit. read more

Overpriced, bad food. I ordered a Guinness and Mini-burgers. The Guinness was six dollars, poured wrong and warm. I bit into one of the mini-burgers and found it colder than the Guinness. Surprised, I looked at the burger and discovered that it was charred on the outside and raw in the Middle. Seriously? Go anywhere else in Chelsea. read more

Onion rings and fries are good. The french dip consists of overcooked roast beef with a side of hot water with a beef bouillon cube.

Great atmosphere and service. Love the sliders, steak quesadilla and the best fish and chips.

I was on my way home from a business trip and was passing through Chelsea and thought it looked like a nice town that would probably have a nice pub type restaurant so I pulled over and googled for restaurants. I quickly saw the google results and it showed a couple of pictures and I thought that Cleary's Pub was just what I wanted. I clicked for directions and it said 0.0 miles so I looked up and I was parked right across the street. The atmosphere inside was just right. They have a nice selection of Irish and English beers on tap but their domestic beers were a bit light. It was a hot day and I really just wanted a Coors Light or a Bud Light on tap, however, they had neither. They did have Miller Light on tap. I opted for a Diet Pepsi. I questioned whether it was actually diet as it had a sweet slight root beer taste. The waitress thought she might have pressed the root beer button by mistake so she happily gave me another which tasted the same. After looking at the menu I decided on the Greek salad with the added chicken breast on top. When I received the meal it did look very pleasing and was quite large. It was served with the dressing on the side. Like a Caesar salad I would have preferred them to toss the salad in the dressing rather than put it on the side. When I started eating the salad I noticed there was very little feta cheese in the salad and the chicken did not seem to have any seasoning at all. This made the salad seem very bland. I will say that the chicken breast was cooked perfectly otherwise. I wanted to get some flavor into the salad so I asked the waitress for some more feta cheese and salad dressing. She brought the feta cheese and dressing out and said that she had to charge me .75 cents for the extra cheese. I thought that is a reasonable amount for extra feta cheese, however, I believe it should have been served with more to start with as it is a key ingredient in a Greek salad. Some oregano would have also helped give it more flavor. I mentioned to the waitress that the chicken seemed to be unseasoned and she said that she thought they put some type of lemon on it. The waitress was very attentive and polite. Overall I would probably try Cleary's Pub again as it does have a good pub atmosphere but I would suggest asking a few questions if you want your expectations met. read more
