The new management has missed the mark. We have typically gone for dinner at Clementine's perhaps once a month. Today we brought my father-in-law for dinner. My father-in-law always raved about the French onion soup - not the case this time. The recipe has been changed so much the soup was horrible. I ordered the blackened steak - supposedly 12-ounce steak. I ordered a medium rare steak - I received a very thin steak cooked medium with lots of fat. The website showed the steak cost of $30.00 - I was billed $34.00. The servers at Clementines are the same staff - that is the only positive from this dining experience. For being not in New Orleans, the food is pretty darn good. Flavors are like what one can get in Nola and the beignets pretty good.

I've visited Clementines a few times over the years and it's usually a good experience. Service is always prompt and establishment is up-kept and clean It's one of the few soul/southern style food places in the tri-valley. This is my second time having the Cajun Trio special. The jambalaya is very meaty and very flavorful with a subtle kick of spice.- My fav! The gumbo is also very flavorful and includes chicken, sausage, shrimp, and veggies and added rice.- Very good ! The crawfish étouffée is OK in my opinion. I'm not a huge fan but like the other dishes it does lack not flavor or spices. My partner got the cat fish Poboy, and mac and cheese. One thing I can mention about the Poboy is that you get a nice thick filet. A nice portion size to balance out the sandwich. My partner did end up asking for red beans and rice instead of the M&C after not being a fan and they waiter was happy to swap it out. read more

YUM! Loved this place the first time we came and it's still 5 stars for me. We walked in for an early dinner on Saturday where there was live music playing in the bar area. Even when you're sitting in the separate dining area, you can still hear the music. While waiting for our food, we were given cornbread on the house, which we didn't receive the first time we visited, but it's a nice touch. I ordered the French Onion Soup with Hushpuppies as an appetizer and loved these items so much. At first you'd think the portion is light (I wanted to save lots of room for dessert) but the food is so filling! For dessert we had the Peach Cobbler which is one of my favorite things on the menu and the beignets. Now I recalled not favoring the beignets the first time around, and my perspective hasn't changed. The beignets were a tad hard and flat . I ordered food online to go, these are what we got: Fried green tomatoes Fried okra Catfish plate with hush puppies Shrimp po'boy with baked potato Beignets Banana pudding With tax and all that, it was about $87. Whooweeee What I would buy again: Catfish plate with hush puppies Shrimp po'boy but a different side The fried green tomatoes and okra were like a batter fried, not cornmeal forward fried like I grew up with. Not impressed. The hush puppies were decent, small though. Dessert: the beignets were not worth the price. They are maybe 1"x 2", smaller than expected. The banana pudding came with whipped cream on it, not the traditional meringue. It didn't taste like homemade pudding, not quite sure of the taste. It had the nillas and bananas, which were good. I have heard only good things about the beignets at Clementines. So, I really needed to try them! I ordered a 3-piece order of Beignets for myself. I also ordered chicken and waffles because that's one of my favorite dishes. I could eat chicken and waffles daily for a month and not get tired of them. Unfortunately, the beignets tasted like old oil. Then the waffle was mushy in the middle, and the chicken looked like it was cooked well but still a little raw when cut open. Needless to say, I didn't eat very much. However, the server, Jessica was really nice and my son loved his cup of fruit. Had lunch at Clementine's about a week ago. First, their menu prices increased drastically. I ordered my usual - fried chicken. My friend ordered the salmon salad. The fried chicken was awful - dry and very small pieces with no meat on the bones. My friend specifically asked for the salmon to be cooked medium rare and it came overcooked and dry such that she couldn't even eat it. I got a Clementines coupon in the mail this week and noticed they are under new management. That is obvious and I won't be returning. read more

I came here and had dinner with a friend. The restaurant is pretty big with a dining and a bar area. The website said live music Friday and Saturday nights, but there wasn't any. Service was quick and friendly, but a little over zealous. I got the shrimp and grits which was really good. The hush puppies were amazing! I wouldn't normally complain about a strong drink, but I couldn't taste any flavors in the mint julip, just alcohol. I ordered the French 75 as my cocktail. If you don't mix it, the taste resembles cough syrup. Honestly, I don't think I can have sweetened drinks anymore. My husband thought it was too sweet. Gave this place another try hoping for a better outcome, but was disappointed once more. Had the catfish, the crust was overcooked, but the fish inside was slimy. Went to clementine's for Sunday brunch and a birthday. I always enjoy American breakfast food and the vast options that are available--you can have sweet or savory breakfasts, and the lunch and supper menu is open too for steaks, salads, burgers, or sandwiches. I came here with high hopes since there aren't really any soul food places near me. I came around 10/10:30am on a Saturday and was sat right away. The servers were all really nice and tentative! I got the chicken and waffles while my cousin got the jambalaya. He said it was good but for soul food, it needed a bit more spices and wished it was spicy. I was given the option to choose light or dark meat for my chicken and waffles. The chicken had a good fry on it and wasn't dry but the pieces were pretty small. I came here with my wife to support my son's jazz concert. He was performing in the bar area of this restaurant with his friends on a Friday night. The restaurant was pretty empty but the bar area was packed. We got a table in the back of the bar and were greeted by a friendly server who promptly cleaned our table and took our orders. I ordered the Cajun catfish dinner with a side of grilled vegetables and my wife ordered the fish and chips with a margarita. The food came fairly quickly and was hot. I thought the catfish was ok. I've made this dish at home and it came out better there. While it was nicely breaded, the fish lacked flavor and seasoning. The vegetables, while cooked thoroughly, were too greasy for my liking. My wife didn't enjoy any of her food and felt nauseous eating it. She complained that it was way too greasy. She couldn't finish her food and was still hungry afterwards. On the positive side, she enjoyed the margarita, but was feeling too unwell to finish it. The service was pretty good and I admire the way this restaurant integrates with the local community and showcases talent including my son's band. They have a nice little setup on the bar side of the restaurant. I would return here to support another one of my son's band events, but I would probably go somewhere else if I were looking for Cajun and Southern Comfort food. Been wanting to try out this spot for a while now. Every time we pass by, we gotta try it says the other one. Finally, on a rainy Saturday we stopped by. We were greeted by the host and got sat immediately. Even though it was only about half full, it actually felt busy and lively. All the staff were generally nice and friendly and attentive. Checked the menu out and ordered up some jambalaya, gumbo, and some burgers for the kiddos. And a soda. I didn't see the pricing for soda, but found out later that it was $4. Holy crap. Not sure I've seen a $4 soda before outside the confines of a professional sporting event. The jambalaya was $18, but for an extra $7 you could add shrimp to it. So I did. Food came out. Jambalaya was a nice portion, but I counted the shrimp. 4.5 - the half was for a small shrimp on top of the 4 "full size" which actually weren't even that big. But for a $7 upcharge I was a little disappointed. FWIW, the jambalaya was tasty and hearty, and for what it lacked in shrimp, I guess it made up for in sausage. Haven't had much jambalaya in my time, but this one was good. I'd recommend for sure. Gumbo was just ok, not my cup of tea I guess you could say. Kids were ok with the burgers. But I looked over at the neighbors and they had some ribs and fried chicken that looked pretty good. Maybe I'll try that next time. This Clementines is one of my dad's favorite restaurants in town! His health has made it difficult to come in so we often pick up food to go so he can eat it at home. The service here is always so helpful, accommodating, and on point! Today is his 80th birthday and they were able to give him a birthday beignet with a sweet birthday message. Came here for breakfast because our hotel that was within walking distance didn't have any breakfast for us to eat. We were a huge party since we came for a wedding. There were about 4 families dining with us. For a Friday morning we had the whole restaurant to ourselves, which was nice. The decor was New Orleans with pictures and menu reflecting what the restaurant was about. Unfortunately we came fir breakfast so didn't really get to try their Nola style food. I order a Bloody Mary cause most of the peeps in our group did. It came with some usual garnish (olives,onion, and a banana pepper-- no celery) which included a crispy bacon. I order my BM spicy and was disappointed it was not. The bacon in it made it though. Order the 1/2 country fried steak and gravy which game with 3 eggs and a side(country potatoes or hashbrowns) and toast. The dish was not the best country fried steak I've had but what I was really disappointed in was what they served as "country potatoes." It was more thinly slices of potatoes that were heavy skins and season. Needless to say I won't order those country potatoes again. My kid order their Belgium Waffle and it was to her standard. Hubby wanted to try their steak ham but apparently they were out already at 9:30am?? So he got a burrito with country potatoes. He also didn't like the potatoes as he ate just the burrito and left the potatoes on the dish. Maybe next time when we visit California again, we could try their lunch and my rating may change. JAMBALAYA AND CRAWFISH TAILS After my trip to Hawaii in November I came here for lunch with my friend who was craving for jambalaya. It was a nice change as we tried something different. I rarely eat Cajun food so I can't recall when was the last time I had jambalaya. Main dishes that have rice can be delicious yet also can be heavy. I wasn't sure how the jambalaya would taste. The jambalaya at Clementine's was flavorful but not heavy. The spices mixed well with the shrimp, sausage, and rice. In addition the rice was soft but not soggy. The jambalaya at Clementine's was a filling dish, which didn't make you feel bloated. The surprise dish at Clementine's was the crawfish tails. The crawfish I usually have are those from seafood boil. At Clementine's the deep-fried crawfish tails had a meatier texture than any deep-fried shrimp I ate. Sometimes plump shrimp can absorb too much moisture that you can't taste the meat. Not the crawfish tails that were served at Clementine's where you can really taste the meat. Overall I had a very nice lunch at Clementine's after my trip from Hawaii. The jambalaya was tasty however I highly recommend the crawfish tails at Clementine's as they're better than any crawfish I had at a seafood boil. read more

This is a difficult review for me to write, because the only other time I have given out 1 star was for a restaurant with customer service that was so horrible we didn't even stay to eat. First off, let me say, we have made a conscious effort to get takeout more often during the pandemic to support local restaurants. When we woke up this morning, we were craving fried chicken and searched Yelp for offerings nearby. We debated going to Popeyes or KFC, but decided to try out Clementines that is right down the street from us instead. We each ordered the 4-piece fried chicken meal at 10am. Yes, we are those kind of people. We knew what we wanted and we were on a mission to get it. The 4-piece fried chicken meal generally comes with a biscuit, mashed potatoes and gravy. We asked to substitute the mashed potatoes and gravy for the Cajun fries instead and they were able to do an even substitution. When placing the order over the phone, my fiancé specifically asked for the fries to be extra crispy. They said it would be ready in 20 min. No problem. When my fiancé came back to the car with the bag of food, I could tell it was warm. Good sign. The first thing we noticed opening the box was the skimpy amount of fries at the bottom of the box. The four pieces of fried chicken looked okay, but 2 out of the 4 pieces were very small- like nugget size. The biscuit was a nice color and size. And to go with the biscuit, they included a portioned paper cup of butter and a packet of honey. The small portioned paper cup of butter was weird- mostly because it was melted and didn't have lid so it just spilled out all over the rest of the food. The fries, though very soggy, tasted okay. There's was no chance the fries were going to be crispy because everything else was just piled right on top of them. Packaging flaw. It does bum me out when there is a specific request (like asking for the fries to be extra crispy) that isn't met. The chicken was greasy and extremely dry (see pictures). The pieces of chicken didn't have a lot of meat on them (except for the breast piece). The thigh piece I got had meat that was so unappetizingly black inside. Unfortunately, it was all just hard to eat. To be fair, I tried every piece of chicken thinking it would get better but it didn't. The biscuit tasted like maybe it was a buttermilk biscuit because it had a sour taste to it. I usually love me a good biscuit but this one was super crumbly and something about the taste was not right. It cost $16.95 for the 4-piece fried chicken meal and I sadly ended up throwing most of it away. My fiancé had the same feelings with his 4-piece fried chicken meal. Both of our stomachs are not doing great from the amount of grease. I write this long-winded review not because I want to complain or make this establishment look bad. I think this restaurant has the potential to do extremely well in this area because there are few restaurants in the vicinity with this style of food. However, the execution needs to way better in order for that to happen. read more

I doesn't get much more sad. Hold on Clementine's! COVID-19 (and our Gov) is doing a number on our businesses, and Clementine's has greatly suffered. I can just imagine them hustlin' and bustlin', live jazz band playin', and lots of great energy. Instead, it's barely has a pulse. Updated review: Met up with fellow gold elite yelper Cheryl M. for breakfast. We chose Clementines because of its affiliation with Country Waffles and also that they serve their full NOLA Cajun menu the whole day with the exception of the Prime Rib. During this time of Covid they have limited indoor seating but the outdoor space is huge and preferable with the nice weather. The restaurant was busy at 9 am on Saturday with what looked liked a classic car or Cobra car club. Seated right away, the servers did a great job hustling from the kitchen inside the restaurant and the outdoor tents in the parking lot. We wound up ordering off the main menu. Jambalaya with shrimp 4 stars large shrimp, lots of andouille sausage. Crawfish etouffee 4.5 stars it was spicy with shrimp and plenty of Cajun flavors. Beignets 3 stars piled with powdered sugar, had to scrape off some to find the beignets. (3) Service was good. Still lots of parking spaces available even with the car club. Had this placed bookmarked for awhile so when Yelp friend George F suggested this place for breakfast I was eager to finally try...pass on breakfast food and had "linner" entrees at 9am which I prefer! I can easily make an egg, some waffles and hashbrowns at home and glad Clementine's offered a variety of items that's not specific to the time of day! Ordered the CRAWFISH ETOUFFE which was flavorful, plenty of crawfish with just enough sauce/rice with a nice kick...I would usually add the Crystal hot sauce but the dish had the right amount of heat already. The JAMBALAYA looked delicious and was full of andouille sausage with added shrimp..,sampled a bite and it was tasty but probably would've added a bunch of hot sauce to it. Of course, had to finish off with some beignets which were simple and nothing to wow about...one beignet left behind and not because I was afraid of looking like an oinker. :( Overall, a ***3.5 - 4 stars*** for this first visit and will return as a great option to meet friends for breakfast/brunch when they like ordering the basics and you want lunch and dinner items...great suggestion George!
