I love this place; El Forastero. Their street tacos are so delicious and very inexpensive. Their chicken nachos are equally scrumptious. Surprisingly, it's open 24 hours. Wasn't sure if the dining was open so I went through the drive-through. . Was craving for a quesabirria I'm glad they had it. I I scanned the price when I was ordering and noticed they were pretty expensive so only decided to get one along with their breakfast burrito. This place is a bit pricey if I had to come a few days a week. Overall, I would like to say for the price the quality is good. I hope this business strives and survives. It has huge potential. The menu offers all of the Mexican items of a Taqueria with a variety of proteins. We ordered the lingua plate and the two taco (lingua & Carnitas. The tacos and meats were good. Good food, great service! Very fast, and the guy working around 2 AM was really nice. It's definitely the best food option I can find in the Tri-Valley after midnight. I'd probably opt for another place during the day but this beats fast food for sure. Decent pricing, and the tacos are a good size! Also the guacamole is pretty good, that definitely beats the mashed avocado at Los Pericos. I only wish I could go inside to wash my hands late at night when the lobby was closed. I have come here twice already since it is close to America's tire and I needed to get a tire put on. First time I was surprised at how good it was. Second time I was surprised again at how good it was. Totally legit Super Burritos. It seems to be a franchise. Only thing is since it has to cater to a higher demographic area, they did not have cabeza which was a downer. I did like the carnitas and asada. Service was solid and fast. Burritos are made well. It is wrapped in normal paper compared to foil but this was not a point off thing since I finished it each time. Ambiance is nice and honey. It is not fine dining but more quality take out. I saw that El Forastero took over the Wendy's location and was looking forward to trying the food. Danville and San Ramon historically has not had any good Taquerias. Within a time period of a couple of months two Taquerias opened in San Ramon with good reviews. I happened to drop in on a Tuesday not realizing that El Forastero has a Taco Tuesday deal. The street tacos are $.50 cheaper. I ordered a couple of Carnitas tacos, one Adobada taco and a crunchy ground beef taco (I grew up on crunchy ground beef tacos). The tortillas were fresh, carnitas tasted boiled (not team flavorful), the Adobada had good flavor and I loved the ground beef taco (could have used more lettuce and cheese). They gave a chips and salsa bar which I thought was great. They keep the area very clean and well stocked. The chips are good, they don't taste like chips out of a bag (lots of restaurants use the commercial bulk chips). Even though the food is cooked, it takes several minutes to get your food. The service is good, restaurant is clean and they have several other items on the menu. I plan to drop in on Crunchy Taco Sunday. Plus I want to try some enchiladas (see if I can get ground beef) and Taquitos at least one. Swing by to support one of the better Taquerias in the San Ramon/Danville area. read more

I used to go to the El Forestero locations in Stockton all the time when I was in school so I wanted to check this one out. The inside is actually really nice, way better than I expected. It was clean and they had the basketball game on TV so I thoroughly enjoyed the vibe in there. Food wise it was a bit mixed. They have free chips and salsa which is always a plus, but honestly the chips were just okay. I ordered a Super Burrito online and while it was definitely a filling meal, I'm pretty sure they forgot the sour cream. I also didn't really enjoy the cheese they used inside the burrito. I have gone to this place quite a few times because I live 3 minutes away. I've tried tacos, taquitos and tonight the bean and cheese burrito. The tacos and taquitos were over fried and lacked flavor. The bean and cheese burrito was FILLED with raw onions. Where does it say on the menu there are onions? Guess they don't take into consideration that people have food allergies which is concerning. The beans were not hot at all, the shredded cheese they put in it didn't even melt. As for customer service, they aren't friendly guys. Seem irritated at times that you walk in and they have to pause their conversation to work. There are like over a dozen stores, mostly in the Sacramento and Stockton areas. San Ramon apparently has have a niche customer base for late night eats, despite being a pretty sleepy town. Just check out the drive-through line at In and Out on a weekday after dark. The menu is huge and has fish, shrimp, chicken, pork, and birria in various permutations. Yes there's Quesabirria but also birria ramen! I opted for the Carnitas Plate ($20 or so) and a Chicken Quesadilla ($10 ish). Both were prepared quickly via drive-thru. Loved the carnitas plate - shredded, flavorful pork that's not super salty like some places. Our 5yo seemed to like it too, so huge props. Good creamy and smooth refried beams, and the free tortillas were served piping hot. The Chicken Quesadilla we found a bit on the salty side, and there's a small peppery kick added. New Mexican restaurant with drive thru that is 24 hours. Got the regular burrito with carne asada that comes with guacamole and pico. There's a version with rice too but opted for lower carb. The burrito itself is primarily onion and subtle guac flavor. The spicy sauce they give you is one red and one green and the red was actually decently spicy! The meat wasn't tender but to be expected for a fast food concept and the meat was also very salty. I mostly just remember the salt! Good but you'll need a tank of water to quench your thirst! Ever since leaving San Diego, we've been looking for a great go to mexican joint. In the last month we tried Taqueria Azteca in Dublin (Dang good Birria Pho), El Califas (great burrito) and now El Forastero. Personally, of the three I think I prefer El Forastero the most. here's why. Food: The food is good. We got a few things and almost all were great. Carne Asada Fries: Almost as good as I remember in SoCal. The fries were a good size (not quite as thing as ideal but still really good), the toppings of it all were generous, and the size, overall, was pretty good. My kids split one and almost finished it. Definitely enough for 2 people who eat a medium amount of food. California Burrito: It was okay. The first few bites were 40% tortilla, 20% cheese and 40% meat/fries. The flavors were great but the fact that it was small and didn't have a ton of stuff inside wasn't so great. As I got to the bottom, the ratios changed since it seems the tortilla bunched up on the side I started on, but I wouldn't get it again unless I was really craving a California burrito. Rolled Tacos: Standard rolled tacos. Honestly nothing stand out. They were crispy and generous with the cheese/sour cream on it. Street Tacos: Probably the second favorite of the night. We got a few tacos and they were filled with a ton of meat. GREAT value for the cost. We did wish they had more onion/cilantro, but in the end, we'd rather more meat than onion/cilantro. Fish Taco: The thing to avoid. It wasn't bad by any means, but it was not what we expected comparing it to SoCal fish tacos. When we go to places like Taco Ensenada in LA, the fish fry is a light batter with a flakey fish inside. Sometimes it's a little oily but still overall light. This was a more dense fish and the white sauce was a different flavor. I can't ding them for not having the same flavor profile but it was just a little heavier than I hoped for on a fish taco. Chips/Salsa Bar: Free chips and salsa! And they're all really good! What more do you need? El Califa didn't have this which was a demerit for them in the comparison game. The only issue we ran into here was that most of the sauces/salsas were low or out. They were so busy i'm guessing they just didn't know. Service: We went on a Thursday night. NOT taco tuesday, but a thursday night... they were pretty busy. Maybe 30 people in there and the parking lot was full. The staff was ALL extremely nice and helpful. Location: It'st he closest. Not by much but it's the closest place to us. I could walk there (I wouldn't) but I could. So that's a plus. Overall, comparing the food to Azteca and El Califa, They're all great (minus the fish taco here). Service wise, also everyone's great. So why does this place edge out the others? Convenience and the chips. This is the same distance as El Califa from home but has chips. Azteca is definitely a drive. Oh did I also forget to mention they are open 24/7 for drive through? First let's get this out of the way. This is not an "authentic" Mexican place. Come on this used to be a Wendy's. What is the expectation here? I came here with my 9 year old daughter. We dined in. The menu is so big, I was immediately overwhelmed. When a menu is that big, some if not most items are gonna be meh but there's always a few they're going to do well. I must have stared at the menu for about five minutes. We eventually got two quesabirria tacos, carne asada fries, and nachos with cheese and jalapeños from the value menu. The birria tacos with the consommé were SO GOOD we both inhaled it. We dipped our tacos, then took a bite and then a little sip of the consommé and it was perfection. There was some nice cheese pull with onions to perfectly cut the grease. I just wish they'd give more consommé. The carne asada fries were good, the picture doesn't show it but there was guacamole inside also, which was a nice surprise. The carne asada was also cooked very well. The nachos from the value menu, wouldn't recommend since after I ordered, I noticed there's free tortilla chips and a salsa bar with jalapeños on the side. We also got a strawberry horchata which I have never seen anywhere but I so highly recommend it. It is very sweet so my daughter and I shared a medium and that was the perfect amount for us. There were TVs inside with football playoffs on. The bathrooms were clean and the restaurant is clean. The only thing annoying about dining in is the beeper that lets you know your food is ready will just keep beeping and beeping while the person goes up to get their food. The service is good. The person taking my order patiently waited while we were deciding. The food came out in about five minutes. Ok so this is a review of the drive thru experience. First off, super fast! Got three tacos and a drink in like 6 minutes or so. I was able to see inside when I drove into the drive thru and it does look really nice inside. I had two street tacos and a quesabirria taco as well as a horchata. The adobada street taco was very tasty. The lengua taco was a bit dry, but hey, they just opened and it was still really good, just not as good as the adobada. Major props for having enough cilantro and onions on the tacos. Well done there! The red and green salsas added a nice kick. The red one was a bit spicier, so just something to consider if you're not into spicy food. The horchata was great. I've had bad horchata before and this one was definitely not bad at all! Now. The reason this gets 5 stars? The quesabirria taco was amazing. The sauce was piping hot and the the taco? Perfect. It made me actually sad I had not ordered three of them! The California burrito was huge and had all the right ingredients but had no flavor. Still a mystery. And the Coke Zero tasted wrong. Off. "Perfume" said my wife. This was true last time as well. We both poured out our drinks and replaced with Diet Coke. Did not have the same perfume issue, but was not quite right. I walked in today hoping for some really good authentic mexican food. Im under the weather so I was looking for some good mexican caldos (soup). Come to find out they dont serve any caldos or soups. They serve pozole/menu on weekends only. HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT. So then, I figured I would get desayuno (breakfast) instead. In most authentic Latino restaurants they have nopales or chilaquiles. So I asked if they serve those items. They said no. HUGE FAIL FOR ME. They didnt make any of the 4 items I was hoping to have. So no breakfast and no soups. I was left with no choice but to leave. I was hoping for a little more authenticity in terms of their menu. I was sorely disappointed. It looks like I have to continue to frequent Los Pericos in Dublin to get my caldos/desayuno fix. Rating: 3.25 stars Tried El Forastero 2 more times, both times after work, around 6:30 pm. Food is good for fast food but there were several missteps. Ordered another burrito. This time instead of lengua, a chicken fajita burrito. Cashier was a very nice lady with a mom vibe but must have been new. Rang up a chicken casa burrito instead. This casa burrito wasn't grilled like the super burrito was on my previous visit. Also no grilled fajita veggies included. Better than the lengua but still needed salsa for flavor and heat. Ate inside and discovered the self-serve bar had pickled veggies and a wider selection of salsas than just red and green. The nacho chips were acceptably crispy. Only downside, the dinner rush had decimated the bar and it needed refilling and clean-up. Pretty sure the pico de gallo was made in-house. How? The mix was seasoned generously with salt. Too much, imo. Third visit, finally got my fajita burrito. Added whole pinto beans for an additional charge of $1.25. Again like the 2 previous burritos, very mild and needed the salsas for heat and flavor. Noticed the salsa bar again needed refills and a wipedown. The pico was again too salty for me. So today for lunch I decided to try El Forastero. I come from SoCal so my expectations for Mexican food is really high and not too many restaurants around the Tri-Valley have been able to hit the mark. I swung through the drive through around 3:30. No one in the drive through. Ordered the 5 piece taquito. You have the option to get meat on top but I opted for only the cheese and guacamole. It cost around 12 dollars. Got to the window and it was about 5 minute wait. Service was good. No issues. I didn't go inside but they advertise a lot of their weekly specials around the windows. Overall food was good. Quick note this is a cash business and if you want to pay via card they hit you with a .45 fee. It's not a big deal to some people. In my opinion as a business owner I would never pass off any fees to do business on to my customers. Especially since you can write those off. Whatever foods is good just bring cash. read more

Arrived to find one of those fancy kiosks to order through. Selected the nachos with steak and a strawberry horchata. After about 10 min I get a text that my order is ready. Walk to the counter and he asks what I ordered, he speaks in Spanish to the cooks and they proceed to start making my nachos! Why did I get a text saying my order was ready for pickup. In all but 2.5 second I watched the cook throw a pile of chips on a plate. Squirt sour cream and guacamole on it and grab a hungrily of shredded cheese and another handful of steak and shocking just hand it to me. They didn't even melt the cheese. I give it a shot and it's terrible. I go to the counter and ask them if I can get some NACHO cheese for my nachos and he charges me $3.28 !!! How about this for a suggestion. You can't beat the convenience of 24 hr service so this place deserves 5 stars definitely, the service was very polite and they speak fluent English is paramount in success and happy customers. This place is AWESOME. I've only been 2 times and each time was delightful. It's hard to find places open late, especially open 24/7! I ordered two tamales one cheese and one chicken (I like the cheese one more). The Guacamole was good and the flautas/ taquito things my mom ordered were good as well as the horchata!! I'm impressed with this place. OH and my most favorite thing they had was the --FLAN MILKSHAKE!! Que rico! So good! If you haven't had it yet--TRY IT, you will love it!
