Cool restaurant with lots of history. We had a great waitress who made some recommendations that did not disappoint. The onion rings are amazing. When you walk into Clementine's, you can tell it is a local spot. We were seated promptly and had great service! The inside was antique looking and had lots of seating. Their French onion soup was very good, but the soup of the day was even better! The chicken tender basket was hand battered, but needed seasoning of some sort. The ranch was our favorite part. Normally Clementines is amazing but this last time has been the absolute worst experience I've ever had. Fist the hostess was skipping parties and my wife had to ask what was going on. She was polite about it so that was good. We finally get seated after almost 40 minutes of waiting. The waitress came over and took our drink order and we also ordered onion rings as well. It took almost 40 min for the rings to come out. Then our dinner...what a disappointment. I got the Cajun chicken pasta and my chicken was cold. Like it was sitting for a long time. The fries i ordered also were like gummy in texture. My youngest son got mac and cheese and it was basically kraft Mac and cheese and it was cold! He didn't even touch it. My oldest got a burger he ate it but he wasn't happy. My wife her steak wasn't to her liking. We've never had a bad experience like this. They keep saying they got a new system that's causing issues in the back. They need to go back to the old ways. We are here off season. It's raining - there's no wait. Clementine's is a great spot. Walking distance from the water. Our server Brendon made us feel welcome, had honest recommendations and stopped by to check on our food and chat. I always forget, coming from So. Cal, that salad isn't a "side" so alternative...loaded baked potato (delicious). My husband had the ribs, son had chicken wings, I had perch - all good! Great food and service! When we come to South Have, we always eat at least 2 meals there. Had the French onion soup(spouse) was great. Great Food! I had a Chicken, Broccoli, Mushroom and Spinach over Fettuccini Alfredo. The vegetables were fresh, the chicken was so tender you could cut it with a fork and melted in my mouth. This was topped off with grated Parmesan and had a delicious piece of Garlic Cheese Bread. Price with fresh brewed iced teas (one to go) was $22. Service? Fine. Ambience? Fine. Food? They have gone downhill so bad! Don't waste your time standing in line to get into this place, it's just not worth it. They used to have stellar perch and walleye dinners, which we both ordered for lunch yesterday and they were subpar to say the least. The wall light was overcooked and dried out, and the perch was definitely not fresh. The best thing we had was the steamed unseasoned broccoli. Also, it doesn't matter if the restaurant is half full, they will make you stand outside and wait so that it appears to be a place that is in high demand. Instead, go down the road to 3 Blonds Brewing. The food was excellent! I had the ribs with a side salad and truffle fries. Hubby had the chicken bacon ranch Panini with a side salad and we split the artichoke dip. Everything was lovely. No standing around waiting for a table and it seemed they genuinely cared if the food was good. read more

Every time we come to South Haven we go to Clementine's. This time we sat @ the bar and had a fabulous bartender that took very good care of us. The building is beautiful! The service was good. The onion rings looked worth getting- we didn't happen to get them. I'm giving this a lower rating for price point. I have had less expensive food that was better. The Reel perch was hard to eat with all the bones in it. The sides were okay but seem like nothing special or even homemade. Which if we were paying less I would take that into consideration. I think it's busy and popular because it's location and it's been around awhile. I don't want to see locally owned business go away. Trying to put our names in for a party of 13, we expected to be seated separately. Hostess at front desk gave attitude about having a big group despite us being very open to separate tables. We were given a 2.5 hour wait time which we planned to make work. After an hour we stopped by and confirmed it would still be 90 minutes until our table was ready. This worked well because it gave us time to get back to our house and feed multiple infants. 15 minutes later when at the house, we were called and told our tables were ready and we had 10 minutes to arrive. While rushing to get babies to restaurant, the restaurant was texting us saying we needed to hurry and they would not hold the tables much longer. We did eventually get sat down. The onion rings are unique and good. The burgers are very sub par/average at best. Pasta did not look very good. My wife ordered a steak medium and it arrived looking incredibly rare. We sent it back, and when it came back it looked just as rare if not rarer than the original. We began to think they were messing with us. We told them forget about the steak, shell take a burger. The waiter was very apologetic and the only nice experience we had at the restaurant. It was as if they knew they were one of the only restaurants in the city and felt like they held all the leverage. We will not be returning. Looks like Three Blondes is a brewery that is much better if you're looking for American. read more

We have dined here several times in the past, but our recent trip was quite disappointing. The Parmesan cheese shaker had moldy cheese in it. The item it was used on was replaced, but it should have been taken off the bill. A salad that was to have mixed greens was almost all iceberg lettuce. It also was to have strawberries in it-- there were only two that were cut in half. Our waitress did everything to make things right, but the quality of food here has really declined. I grew up spending summers in South Haven and Clementine's was always a staple. It's been years since I've been back, but visited recently during a week's vacation. Is it a tourist trap? Yes! This is the first restaurant we came to once we arrived in town. Every article or place I researched mentioned that you had to eat at Clementine's when you are in South Haven. We had a little bit of a wait during lunch time which was not a problem since they are in a great central location. While we waited - we strolled some stores along the same sidewalk and the time went by fast. Once we were seated, we had a nice waitress serve our table. A couple of us shared an appetizer and ordered soup of the days as our main. One of the girls ordered a steak salad and it was HUGE. The food was pretty good from what I remember! It loved the historic feel of the building and decor. They're in a great spot for tourists who come into town and want to shop on that main street. read more

Disappointing dining experience in South Haven. We used the love the onion rings there. We requested them "crispy" and not doughy as we had gotten doughy ones before. They "tried" to get them crispy, but didn't succeed. That was the first disappointment. My husband's high roller sandwich which is supposed to come with a lightly toasted bun, came with a burnt bun. I ordered curly fries with my meal and these had to be the worst curly fries I ever had. They were very "chewy". I alerted our waitress about them and she just said "sorry". She didn't offer to have them remade or offer me a different side item. She had a bad attitude which also made for an unpleasant dining experience. I would NOT recommend this restaurant to any of the tourists who visit the South Haven area for a day or weekend trip. read more
