The most overrated place I have ever eaten. Perch, everyone said get the perch. It's over seasoned and way overpriced. Steak was meh, onion rings were over breaded and are drakes battered. So bland flavor to boot. Baked potato was the best thing I had. Black River tavern has waaaayyy better perch. The positive, the staff was great, the service was good and the waitress was very attentive and she is the reason I'm leaving 2 stars instead of 1. Had a small get together (with 17 people). Was informed that they don't take reservations. Ok but we had called ahead to give them a heads up. When we got there we noticed that they are, now, forcing groups to pay with a single bill. This is extremely strange and will influence our decision to patronize this establishment in the future. When vacationing in South Haven this is a must visit place. The food here is so good you won't want to leave. When we first sat down we noticed servers walking by frequently with these large stacks of onion rings. When we asked about it they told us they come in two sizes. So we ordered the large one and wow! Both huge and good. They come on a block with a rod up the center and they are stacked by size. Very yummy! The other entree items on the menu are really good. We used to recommend this as a local stable. Reliable varied food. Apparently they are under new management, and is failing on many levels. Serious problems at the hostess station, might be better if staff didn't do shots at the bar while working. The food has been poorly timed. Our party of 5 arrived at approximately 11:40 on a Sunday morning and we were seated almost immediately. Our server greeted us promptly with a smile answering all of our questions. Two people in our party had the High Roller sandwich. It was very tasty and enjoyed by both. My husband opted for the steak salad with sweet onion dressing. The dressing was so good and the salad was so large, he requested a second dressing and without hesitation the server brought it to him. Was at Clementine's yesterday while in South Haven. I always love the decor and ambiance of this building. My dining companion told me that the red brick in the walls likely was fired in or near Chicago, while the yellow coordinating bricks were made in Grand Rapids Michigan. We were seated in the spacious entrance area. The staff were fast and efficient without appearing unduly stressed. Everyone was polite and respectful while being personable. I ordered the "Oh, My Darling!". I cannot remember, but my punctuation is spot on in regards to portion size, presentation, and flavor. I also had the wild rice which was paired very well with the seafood. I enjoyed my meal immensely and would have ordered dessert, but I'm diabetic. Darn! Solid place to eat grab dinner in the middle of South Haven. For an appetizer we ordered onion rings, that were cooked to perfection, and the buffalo wings that were basic, but delicious. I got the potato encrusted walleye, which was okay, but was a bit chewy and not as crispy as I expected. I finished it, but would have gotten something different if I had to do it all over again. My kids both got pasta which they highly enjoyed and wife got a huge salad, which she devoured. Service was great. Atmosphere is a bit outdated, but that adds to the charter of the place. Get your name on the list early so you don't have the 90 minute wait we had. The wait gave us time to walk around South Haven, but would have been nice not to have to wait so long. Try the onion rings. Excellent. Menu had a wide range of options. Obviously, has a long-time tradition for visitors. Would expect a little more robust beer selection with so many microbreweries in the region. I had the Red Rooster, which is strawberry glazed chicken. There is usually a long wait to get in here but everything changed with the COVID and many folks have stayed away from the restaurants in this cute area of South Haven. We were lucky enough to grab an open table in the shinny bar area which are widely spaced out and every other booth is closed off. Same thing in the dining area where they used to stack you in there like cattle. No outdoor dining on the sidewalk. We came for the Lake Perch fish fry and it was excellent. I like that I have a choice of a veggie or a baked potatoe instead of fries. I'll have to say it was better than Captain Lou's which was my favorite for a long time. I was shocked. The hostess who claims to be a manager and owner was extremely rude to pretty much everyone that I saw come into the restaurant while I was eating. My table was in the bar area next to the front door so I had a front row seat to her behavior. She was snippy, condescending, shouted at customers, made rude comments to her coworkers about customers, and did several shots at the bar. Perhaps she was drunk? I heard someone call her Kaitlyn or Kate. If she is indeed the owner, then good luck to her staying in business. Wow. read more

South Haven MI - What's the big deal w/Clementine's? Every time I've been by there's always a line outside of Clementine's? I don't get it the food wasn't anything spectacular, maybe just a lack of good restaurants in South Haven. My wife and I came to South Haven to go to get some blueberries @ DeGrandchamps Blueberry Farm 06/21/19 uhh maybe I should have checked to see if they were harvesting them first before driving out from Chicago). Anywho it wasn't a wasted trip we still went to Sherwins for their ginormous ice cream portions. I ordered a bacon cheeseburger w/cheddar cheese or Merkt's cheese spread. (Mehhh there are several dozen burger joints in Chicago w/better burgers. My wife got the corn beef w/thousand island dressing & Swiss cheese. This was a pretty tasty sandwich. Both came w/soup or side. We both chose the corn chowder which was very good. Nice restaurant, decent price point, decent service, but nothing overwhelming that would make me want to go back again. read more

The food options were terrific. We had no difficulty finding items that we knew we wanted to try. Food came out in a timely manner. Steak was done as we ordered and everything that we had was fantastic, especially the French Onion soup. My wife and I were there to enjoy each other's company. The hostess and our waitress were very accommodating. My wife and I were there for a nice slow paced dinner, and they allowed us to make that happen. Also ordered a brandy old fashion, that was very unpalatable and we returned it which they also took off our bill. The French onion soup was very delicious and met the expectations from the reviews. 6 inch stack of onion rings were tasty but a little bit on the greasy side. A sandwich head shrimp crab meat Monterey Jack cheese on a French roll. Overall the sandwich seemed to both of us to be very bland and needed something to kick up the taste and/or flavor of the meal. We came up to meet some friends for a karaoke weekend.. Corn chowder and shrimp soup was fantastic! Thick ...creamy and full of flavor. I had a wonderful Carmel martini.. The hostess wearing an N95 mask was so rude. She should not be working with costumers...I would stick her somewhere like dish washing...she has the nastiest look on her face and she would walk around clicking her pen being super distracting while we were eating. She talked very rude to other costumers as well. Our server was a young guy with long brown hair and when he was bringing out our food his hair was literally in the food while he had it on his shoulder on the platter...I was really hoping it wasn't our food until he stopped at our table. We had four adults and two kids eating and two toddlers under two who did not eat but since our party was "8" total he refused to split the bill and said " well the totally number is 8 and your children are taking up space in the restaurant so therefore no I won't split the bill" Everyone at the table was shocked the way he talked and handled the situation. He wasn't a bad serve just had a negative attitude the entire time. The onion rings were good but that's about it. The chicken tenders were so greasy and the breading didn't stick to them. The fries were cold and had zero seasoning. This is was by far one of the worst experiences at a restaurant I've had and I was a server/bartender for 6+ years. We couldn't stop talking about what a damper this experience was the rest of the day. For a long time it was the only noteworthy restaurant by the south beach. You will pay more than what the food is worth. Sure the building is old, wooden, and dusty. Do you want to look at a wooden bar or eat a good meal? Also had the same experience a month ago as others, rude hostess and manager. Good luck if you decide to eat here.
