A teeny tiny little warehouse of a store front, all of the guys in here were helpful straight off the bat, which I appreciate since I sort of had no idea what I was doing. At first we were looking for feeds to feed our chicken, it's the only store of its kind that caters to farm animals in the burb. Besides all the feeds that Jason L. listed they also have fish foods in huge bags....bigger than Walmart and more affordable if you have a lot of Kois that are extremely hungry after hibernation. They have baby chicks too. I just discovered that you can also buy alfalfa pellets at Close to feed your plants. The alfalfa....according to my friend...are rich in nutrients, a huge bag is around $15. The people at Close are very friendly and always carry the huge bags out to my car. You'll have to do a u-turn on Industrial if coming from 880, but it's worth it. Also if you're hungry try the mexican restaurant next to it on the corner of Huntwood and Industrial....forgot the name sorry. read more

Close Feed & Supply is just off the 880 freeway in south Hayward, close enough to my office that we can run down there during lunch, or stop by after court. They have everything from bird seed and cat- and dog food, to rabbit food, goat feed, chicken feed and All-In-One and Senoir Feed for our horses! Plus, there are often cute bunnies, birds, or other animals that make you go "Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh" when you see them! AND, best of all, their prices are GREAT! read more

Love these guys because not only do they know there stuff but they are REALLY nice!! No snobbishness here!! I just called here to ask about chicks. The gentleman told me he had several types but not bantam(the kind I'm looking for). Then he offered to have me call back Thursday he said he has a guy who has some and he'll see what he has. Great customer service, not what you usually get from the feed stores around here. What none of these reviews mentions is that THIS PLACE HAS HORSE FEED! If you have horses, you know that feed stores are kinda remote in the Bay Area. I work in Union City, live in Moraga, have to leave really early and drive out of my way to get feed for my horses "on the way home". Totally elated to discover Close Feed & Supply less than 10 minutes from the office. Apparently they've been there forever...whatever :). Super efficient, had everything I needed in the brands I prefer, nice guys who loaded up my car in moments. No one even noticed I was gone from my desk and I have four bags of feed to show for it. We love this local store- and find them personal, like family. My elderly mom considered Pat to be a "Close" friend, and would sometimes feign a need just to see him and his beautiful black squirrel. His kindness and attention overwhelmed her since all but one of her friends had died. Additionally, the no-waste bird seed and treats she bought were always in stock. Often, the products were delivered to the car before I had finished paying! When Mom was in too much pain, she'd stay in the car, but ask me to say hi to Pat. He would ask for a short break and go kneel at her window and visit a few minutes. Totally made her day! They're Close in more ways than one . read more

My hens had chicks, thanks to the housesitter not collecting the eggs whilst I was on vacation, and I was not prepared for it. I looked online and found Close Feed & Supply. I called and the man that owns the place had everything I wanted, so I drove over with my little neighbor, from Newark, I was amazed at the great prices. Better than the internet!!! I also think it is better to support small business, so you do it too! Do it! The owner was more than patient with us, and very helpful. He does not suffer fools gladly, so I was surprised that he tolerated me as long as did. I then begged and pleaded with him to buy his mouse. He was by then wearing thin. I used to come here all the time before moving out of the area. They had the best pricing on rabbit feed, and grain for my horse. I didn't always have time to drive all the way to Western in Pleasanton, so this place is very conveniently placed. The staff is very nice and helpful, carries the heavy stuff for you which is very appreciated, and they know their stuff. The store selection is small, but somehow they always had what I needed for my horse. read more

This store is very highly rated and I can see why! I was looking for a very specific kind of food and the man who helped knew exactly what it was and exactly what he had in stock. He didn't have that food on hand, but he provided me with a lot of information about the substitutes and the behaviors of the animals so I left the store with much more knowledge than I had! Awesome service. I bought a bag of rolled oats only to find out after I had poured it into another container that it had bugs. When I returned to Close for a refund, the man who helped me seemed very upset about the grain having bugs and was very apologetic and gave me a different bag of grain as a replacement for free! To my contentment, the new bag does not have bugs :) I was very impressed by the service I received, and may I add that he carried the 50lb bag to my car for me both times, which was very helpful. I won't just be coming back because it's the closest feed store to my barn, but because the service and professionalism of their staff is exceptional :) read more

We bought some chicks from Close Feed last week and were surprised at the variety, plus they were $1.75 a chick- which is a great deal. However, they don't order their chicks vaccinated for Marek's- so keep that in mind. I had to order vaccine online for $26 for 6 chicks! It costs maybe .10 cents more to vaccinate chicks at the hatcheries- so why not vaccinate and charge a tad bit more??? The excuse that "the breeding stock is vaccinated, so it passes down to the chicks..." did not sit well with me. There is a reason why chicks are vaccinated for Marek's. Otherwise, I would have loved to see organic feed options. read more

I really enjoyed this feed store. I went in to see their chicks, which were super cute. The guy told me that they would be getting new ones tomorrow and may have a wider selection of breeds to choose from, so I decided to come back the next day. I did still buy a light, some litter, and chick food. The guy working there helped me with all of it, and gave me options for some of the items to let me know what all was available. The following morning my boyfriend went back to pick the chicks, since I had to work, and they had quite a selection. The chicks were only $3, and seemed very happy and healthy and were in clean surroundings. They even have a very cute and friendly cat that runs around, and the guy working told me that they had found her as a feral at only 4 weeks or so, and she get a bowl of food right in the middle of the store :) everyone was very friendly and patient with us and our questions, and me playing with the chicks even after they knew we were coming back the following day (so obviously not buying the chicks I was playing with). I've had my chicks for 5 days and they are still happy and healthy. I have been to other feed stores to get a feel for my options, and I definitely know this will be my go to place. They didn't have quite as much of a selection of goodies as one other place I went, but they have the necessities, and prices are great, and service is the best. read more

Unlike Half Moon Bay Feed, these people are friendly! And helpful! And they get their day-old chicks from Belt Hatchery in CA and sell them for $1.50 each. It's easy to find, easy to park and you are in and out in 5 minutes. I like it. read more

Went there on a Saturday. They were busy, but they acknowledged me and said they would get to me as soon as possible. I was there to get some chicks. They had a nice variety and had a list of other chicks that they would be getting the coming weeks. $1.75/chick is a great price. All i needed was $10 for 25lbs of feed, a water container for 6 bucks, and 1/8 of a bag of wood shavings for the bedding. They sold me a small amount of shavings for a dollar because full package would have been overkill. They were super nice and helpful. read more

Bought our 4 back yard chicks 6 weeks ago and they were very helpful. We had come in a few weeks before just to check prices and to make sure everything we would need was there. They were very nice and knowledgeable even though we told them we weren't purchasing anything that day. When we came back to get the chicks they loaded everything into our truck even though we said it was OK, they insisted. Will be back. read more

These guys rock! It's nice to have a local feed store and they carry everything we've ever been looking for or have ordered it for us. We discovered them when we started raising chickens but have started purchasing our other pet supplies from them. The day old baby chicks we purchased there were healthy and have been giving us the best eggs not a single rooster in about a dozen chicks purchased from Close Feed. Two other vendors we have purchased chicks from sold us straight run instead of pullets and we ended up with Roosters... No Bueno. To top it off they have some of the best customer service around, walk in, tell them what you need and it's usually loaded in the truck before I finish paying. What a rude obnoxious person I saw today!!!! Older Mexican man makes you never want to go back. Plus there was a younger Mexican guy in his 20's who sworn the whole time I was there.
