Hi everyone! I have been working with Clothes Mentor since they opened. Just got back today with $46.00 in my pocket for one bag of items. What you have to remember, they will only take what they need!!! I brought in a ralph lauren dress last fall they passed on, but they took it yesterday. Don't bring in your whole closet, try to keep to a bag or basket. they usually only take current fashion -although did see a pair of polo flip flops from twenty years ago, i used to buy at Marshalls for 10.00 so they do seem to make some exceptions. Consignment is a tough business, these ladies make it work, it's a nice shop. :) read more

I had a bad experience with this company on an online purchase that was advertised incorrectly. When I tried to reconcile the issue the manager was not pleasant in her response or concerned that the product was not sold correctly. I would not recommend doing business online with them again because of their return policy even though they were negligent in the sale . read more

If I could give 0 stars I would. It was a terrible experience overall and the middle aged staff were extremly rude (especially the red head), the staff acted stuck up and too good to purchase the items my friend brought in which were her mothers really nice barely worn clothing. They took 5 pairs of jeans and a new with tags gap sweater and GAVE HER $10?! This is a complete RIP OFF! Better off going to platoes closet right across the street. Brought in 3 large bags of current style expensive nearly new jeans, loft spring pants with tags, doc martens, was told they don't take pants??? Also aggravated that I brought in garbage bags. I had no idea and that was not on their website. They were clearly busy but extremely put out because I brought in items. So rude. And, overpriced. I have never found anything quality for a good price here and they are always rude. Will never come back. A disgrace to the franchise. Going to complain to the headquarters. After my recent experience, I have no desire to return to the store. When I went to sell clothing, the worker, Fran, was incredibly rude, and the service was overall very poor. I wasn't properly informed about the selling policy, and I received very low offers for brand new items. I regret even stopping by in the first place. read more

Sellers beware! Background/context: I graduated college in 2018 and have been working in Boston since where I've had to wear corporate attire on a regular basis. My husband and I recently moved so I had gone through my "corporate" clothes as many don't fit anymore and I wanted to sell my gently used business casual attire. I went in with 2 baskets and had brands like: Loft, Ann Taylor, Banana Republic, Talbots, Madewell and Lululemon. I had a Banana Republic and North Face jacket as well as jeans, dresses, slacks, blouses, activewear etc. You'd honestly think I had walked in there carrying two baskets of dog poo with the look the Assistant Manager gave me. She gave me a grueling up down and proceeded to ask "what are you looking for". I said that I was there to sell my clothes and she responded with "well, just so you know, we only accept gently used clothes that were produced within the last year or two" and I nodded. Then she gave me another glare and said "have you been here before" and I said I had shopped, but never sold. I filled out the necessary paperwork and she continued to make comments like "we really only accept quality brands". I was so uncomfortable and mortified that she just kept insinuating I brought in trash. Her tone was incredibly condescending and when I was walking out as she mentioned it would take two hours to look through the clothes, I saw her pick up a Madewell skirt that had fallen off my pile using her two fingers in a pinching motion and toss it back into the basket like it was steaming dog poo. I went and sat in the parking lot and did my best not to cry. My dad had been working in East Windsor and was heading towards home so he stopped to say hi to me and could tell I was really upset. I told him what had happened and being the sweet man he is, he said "do you want me to sell them at Plato's closet for you? that lady sounds like a witch and she's definitely going to lowball you. Let's go in there and get your items back because she's not going to appreciate them". So with my dad, I walked back in to collect my things and the humiliation didn't stop!! I told the woman I no longer wanted to sell my clothes there and as I picked up my basket she said "well yeah, your items were going to be too young for us anyway." Lady! You didn't even look at ANYTHING that was in the basket. She was judgmental, condescending, rude, uppity, arrogant, and I will never go back there to shop or sell. I have been a lifelong shopper and have often donated or sold my used clothes. I'm aware that places are particular on what they'll accept, but the assistant manager didn't even give me a chance. Long story short, my feelings were hurt and I had a terrible experience there. read more

I usually sell my designer stuff here. Typically the woman/buyer I encounter is kind, friendly and personable. Today, however I came in w three bags and "returned back" like the sweet woman I typically speak with when I go in asked me to. Along w the two coats I had several pairs of shoes and three designer bags in mint condition. The woman I met today who went through my belongings was rude and treated me like a nuisance when I arrived. When I came back to go through my items in front of a line full of people she commented on my Tory Burch purse being filthy and said if I wanted to vacuum it & bring it back she'd consider it. She was rude, unfriendly and insulting and when I arrived home and checked the bag, mortified- I had no idea what she was talking about. The bag wasn't dirty. The woman I dealt with today needs serious customer service training. She was cruel. read more

Don't bring your new/ticketed clothing and/or like new items here (including new shoes). It will be a complete waste of time and also insulting. I drove over here and got offered enough money to pay for my gas for my trip here (5$). I brought new leather designer items WITH THE TAGS ON. It was even in this season and I was shocked that they didn't offer me anything for it. Their reason was they don't accept "certain brands". So u don't accept Gap, and Armani? Not everyone has Gucci or Fendi to bring to a THRIFT STORE! I wasn't the only one there who left with a full basket of clothes. They ain't boujee, maybe they just want old lady clothes. I don't know. What a complete joke. I'm just trying to save others from being frustrated. read more

I shop this store online and get amazing, very great condition, used designer items at unbelievably low prices. This is a local, woman-owned business to the area. I tend to get items shipped for convenience. The clothes can come from sellers who work in NYC with super cute designer names and they've may have been worn once if at all. I've been in enough times to now have them know what I like that they'll point out dresses to my style while shopping. Also, they get lots of Louis Vuitton bags and Burberry. I wish I could buy it all! read more

Based upon my experience, I feel my consignments were not accepted due to the staff's personal judgements of me. Wether they assumed I was a lesbian, another religion, a junkie or just no good based upon my appearance, they did not accept one thing I brought in and they were not very kind about it. I said "you're kidding, you're not taking one thing?" She shook her head with her nose in the air and said "nope". I mean not everything you throw in a consignment pile is a winner but come on. I worked in a consignment shop so I know what time it is. I had 2 leather coach bags, Anthropologie clothes from this season "The Wanderer" pant and a plaid blouse from the pst year with the tags, J. Crew trench skirts from the past few years, new with tags j crew cardigan, J. Crew reversible down filled "Excursion" utility puffer vest? Victoria's Secret PINK packable duffel bag or canvas summer tote with pom poms, like new? No. Not the gold sequined Anthropologie party dress or the green sequined Zara party dress? Other designers such as Alice +Olivia, J Brand, Minkpink, Free People, ect. She blamed it on the one forever 21 top. I'm disheartened by the way I was treated. Maybe if they were nice about not taking anything I wouldn't be writing this. This was a while back, so this is not a heat of the moment review. Bad vibes were whipping through that store like a hurricane. Honestly, I don't think those women even looked through my things. Though filled with waters of rage, I kept my composure. I left that shop I feeling like Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman... They wouldn't let me consign... That's my personal experience at The Clothes Mentor. P.S... They have some pretty nice gently-used midrange brand clothing here, but stay far away from the accessories. I picked up an alleged Marc Jacobs purse and was told by a smiling cashier that it was ok to return it within 15 days with tags and receipt. Of course, as soon as I brought it home and took a clearer-eyed look at it, it was made of nice leather and all but the only way it could have been a worse fake is if they'd misspelled Marc Jacobs. The hardware was all wrong, the lining was all wrong, the zipper tabs hung outside the ends of the bag which is also all wrong... So I didn't touch it, left it and the receipt in the bag, and a couple days later went to return it. When I get there, I say I want to return the bag and the cashier (a different one this time) smirks and says "No returns on accessories." I try to argue and she takes the receipt out of the bag and points out the line at the bottom of the receipt. I mean, I should have looked at the receipt before I returned, but shame on me for listening to the first cashier, right? At this point, I'm so enraged I can barely speak. I can only splutter, "This is a fake - you know this, right?!" And I point out all the things on the bag that mark it as inauthentic. The cashier totally blows this off, saying "We authenticate all our merchandise online." Total BS. I left the store shaking, sadder, and wiser. I don't know what to do about this bag, since I really care about not carrying around counterfeits, and I've totally wasted my money. I brought in a few items that I had recently purchased but never worn to sell. I have a bad habit of impulse buying online and then missing the deadline to return. The staff was friendly and explained their buying policy to me. From what I understood, they price things at a 1/3 to 1/4 retail. If you do not wish to wait in the store they can text you when they have finished evaluating the items which I thought was pretty neat. Judging from the other reviews, I wasn't expecting to be offered a substantial amount , however, I was pretty surprised when they offered $18 for all of my items (1/2 with tags) from banana republic , j crew, and lululemon all purchased less than 6 months ago. They wouldn't take a pair of J Crew Italian Calf Hair pumps, still available for purchase on the website in fact, because they are an "older" style. I'm not sure if it's the software they use for pricing but it just seemed off to me. I think I'll stick to donating my clothes! read more

A few minutes into browsing, I completely forgot this was a thrift store. That's how organized it is. Clean and sans oppressively musty smell, color coordinated clothing racks, excellent shoe selection, upscale designers. I only came out with a sweater and pair of flats but my friends scored BIGTIME - for less than $50. It's odd - after living in Manchester for three years (and Hartford an additional two), this was my first time stepping foot into this store. I'm impressed. Definitely won't be my last. read more

I am giddy to write this review! This visit is my highlight of the week. Can I say I'm more than impressed! I always to go Style Points Salon in the same plaza to get my hair cut and the girls at the salon always tell me to take a look at the Clothes Mentor as there are good finds. Of course I always brushed of the suggestion. Me- consignment shopper? No way, not me! I will stick to my regular clothing brand establishments. Well, yesterday I got my hair cut, and decided to venture in as the curiosity was getting the best of me. I walked in and was greeted my an employee who quickly told me that everything in the store was 20% off. Score! Now let's see if I can find something... Right away I found two pairs of Nike work out pants with the original tags on, never worn both at $6.00 each! My heart was racing! I must explore further! To the career section! Right away I scooped up two blouses ( Ann Taylor & New York Co) both in excellent condition for $4.00 a piece. Then I found two pencil skirts ( Coldwater Creek & New York Co) one with the original store tag on- $6.00, & $8.00! Then I found a lovely Ann Taylor long jacket in excellent condition, could not pass that up! 30 bucks. All these wonderful finds for under $50.00! I was overwhelmed by the selection and delicious finds..I had to stop & walk away. Highlights: -All merchandise is popular labels/brands ( Express, New York Co, Old Navy, Coldwater Creek, LL Bean, Etc) - They only accept clothing that has been gently or never worn, 2 years old or less - They do pay you for your donations. That amount is undetermined - They do turn away items which I actually admire. There was a women attempting to drop off clothing, but since the clothes were full of cat hair and worn out- the store did not accept them. Love that! -All the merchandise is organized & neat- separated from Petite to 3XL, pants, sweater, shirts, causal, career etc, are all in their designated sections. - They carry mainly career clothing ( this workaholic LOVES that) causal attire, coats, designer bags, & shoes that do not look like they have been worn. - Location is accessible & there is plenty of parking. It is located in the Verizon Wireless Plaza across from Evergreen Walk ( Lowes & Target entrance) -Staff is friendly & helpful. I walked out of the store practically skipping. I believe this to be my new favorite clothing store! If you are looking to shrink your budget considerably & still look fashionable, I HIGHLY recommend you visit this golden gem! :) read more

Came back here exactly one year later to poke around again...and guess what? I found a Vera Bradley purse in the EXACT same print of the larger bag I'd bought here, 365 days to the mark. Talk about luck! Hehe. Store's stil as organized and bright as I remembered it last time. I also found a really nice Mad Bomber ushanka hat that I now wear, which is amazingly warm and comfy. A lovely sales associate also chatted with me for a bit and showed me a couple bags that I might have been interested in, but of course I settled on the matching purse. Tried to sell them my Christian Louboutin shoes still in style and in good condition. I spoke with someone a day prior to going, to make sure they'll take them in to avoid driving 40 MILES for no reason. The lady said I will be given around $300 for them and when I got there it was a different story. The woman working there the night I went in said they couldn't take them in because of the size (size 5 1/2 women). Her exact words were "we would have to find Cinderella in order for these to sell. They're just too small." And I got turned away. Maybe they shouldn't tell you something and then flip the script on you. I literally begged my sister to drive me 40 MILES for absolutely no reason. This is my first stop when in the mood to shop. It's a great place for Vera Bradley bags. I've bought some great Coach there, but the Vera bag selection and prices impress me most. Of course I buy clothes there and accessories. There's a good range of prices and with luxury and accessible brands available. I don't understand this store. It's confusing trying to sell to them. Some trips in I feel like I'm getting a somewhat fair offer but not today. Brought in 3 NWT Chicos cropped pants, brand new White House Black Market purse and shoes, Steve Madden sandals. Again brand new. And was offered $35. Seems a ridiculously low offer. They rejected a Brand New MK crossbody bag but yet I saw Croft and Barrow in there. The woman pricing today is consistently unfriendly as well. Think I'll go to Plan B with all my things read more

The items they did take probably 4 items and was given $16.00. Royal rip off. The staff needs to take classes in customer service, if you don't like your job don't take it out on customers. Dropped off 2 brand name handbags. One bag was NEVER USED and the other I used maybe twice. Both bags are Leather and -Mint condition. I was offered $41! Let me just say, I usually sell my items on Ebay or Poshmark and get considerably more (about $125 per bag). $41 is a insult to say the least- I heard their poor reasoning on why they offer so little. Half of the clothes they are selling looked awful anyway. Never going there again. read more

I have loved this store for years but was always a bit put off by the owner's attitude. I have heard her publicly give an employee negative feedback and laugh at her and I've almost never been greeted even though I notice those after me being greeted. The employee who she has been publicly disrespectful to in the past was so personable and helpful, you could tell she only wanted to do her best work, but was constantly being told she was doing things wrong or saying the wrong things to customers. Today I was at the register with my items to purchase, the owner was going through some bags someone brought in, she turned around and looked at me twice and didn't say a word. She was talking to an employee about a customer who was coming in tomorrow, who they love, but she has health problems. After realizing I was being completely ignored, I left my items on the counter and walked out. She didn't ask me to hold on a minute or call anyone over to ring me out. Very nice staff but was turned away with a "pass" on my items. One jacket admittedly had some wear although the remaining items were in great shape and the were quickly turned down due to age greater than 2 years..which realistically she had no idea how old they were. Stopped in yesterday to drop off some clothes that I thought were in very good condition- turns out even a small pill on a sweater is enough for them to say no. It may have more to do with the fact that the store was stocked to the brim already. The lady at the counter however was very nice- politely explaining what works and doesn't work to me. The prices worked out to about $4 per piece, which imo seemed fair, but not worth the hassle. I'll just be dropping them off at The Red Cross box next time. read more

So it seems like the negative reviews are for trying to get your items consigned. I didn't do that so I can't vouch for that. I did buy some things there and for that they were wonderful! I am currently in my second trimester of pregnancy and have no clothing that fits. Lucky for me I'm one of many American women who are a size 12-14 and now am on the cusp of plus size but sometimes maybe straight sizes but only certain things and not others. Basically it's a special kind of hell women deal with. I haven't been able to find maternity clothes that fit and stay up on my waist, never mind ones that are comfortable and reasonably priced. I lucked out here! Lots and lots of clothes, many sizes and very inexpensive! I came out with a haul (about a dozen items) and spent 120 bucks... About the price of 1 pair of maternity jeans and two tops brand new. Crazy. Will be back after delivery because the regular clothes looked pretty great too! read more

EEk! The clothing, handbags, and costume jewelry are outdated for the prices they are asking. Brought in some upscale, high quality clothing, which they refused. Hah, I was glad to take my stuff back after looking at their less than desirable inventory. Staff wouldn't recognize high end when they see it. If its not local mall clothing, they are clueless. I recommend shopping here, but not selling. My shopping experience - 4 stars: The store is large, clean and organized. You can get some great treasures at great prices. I found a black leather Kate Spade cross body in perfect condition for $60! The staff is also professional. The selling experience - 1 star: I was with my mom and we had just done some major closet cleaning and reorganizing. She had a heaping basket and several piece on hangers in dry cleaning bags and many with tags still on. They only ended up taking a few pieces and offered $26! We were shocked since she had several name brands pieces (mostly Talbots, Avenue, Coldwater Creek & Land's End) and she has classic style so none looked dated. Ironically, one of the jacket/blazers they did take was what my mom referred to as 'ancient'. So that 2 year rule is very flawed by discretion, HA! They took absolutely none of the great Coldwater Creek pieces since it is a company policy to not sell labels that have gone out of business. We were rather shocked about that. Like I mentioned, the staff was professional but they were not personable. They had key phrases they repeated and sounded like robots with memorized scripts. So odd. Store was clean and bright. I brought all my items in on hangers, some fresh from the cleaners. I was asked to fold them all into laundry baskets for examination. A pair of $99 pants from Macy's with tag still on was rejected. They selected 2 top of the line Talbots sweaters and offered me $7 for both. I declined the offer and brought my items to donate. Similar to the other users here - Brought in some cloths, including a BR skirt that I have never worn (but had removed the tags) a Chicos sweater along with a few other items and was rejected - they told me they could tell they were all older than two years by the tag or were "too worn" for their inventory. Both of which were untrue for quite a few of the items (a few were older than two years, but since when does a Cashmere sweater in a basic cut ever go out of style?) After looking it up - the saleslady seems to have lied, I can't find anywhere telling me how to figure out how old my clothes are by the tag alone. Have enjoyed poking around and have found a nice pair of shoes before, but everything in their is really cheap fabrics and I rarely find good brands except in the purse section where the discount is not that great.....I would rather go to Savers/Goodwill and wash everything at home before wearing it. I donated everything anyways today - along with the 6 other bags of clothes I did feel were too old or not quite in their aesthetic. read more
