By far my favorite coffee shop in Davis! The paninis are addictive, the best in town *seriously, try the Cache Creek Caliente with Turkey and multigrain bread*, the smoothies are just like I like them: not too sweet yet tasty. Salads are extra filling. I always have a hard time finishing them. I've tried several of the hot drinks, too. Am not a fan of pumpkin based-drinks, but their Fall Latte was delicious. *And I'm difficult, trust me* They do fair trade coffee and tea. Juices are good. Smile and kindness all around--great staff. Easy-listening music. Interesting round of art (changes every month), and clean place. Great atmosphere. Nice patrons. It's a nice place to just hang out or get some work done. What is there not to like? I'm a writer, and wrote my best pages in that coffee shop. It's brought me luck and more inspiration than I can handle. :) *And it's surprisingly cheap. Well, I hardly ever leave reviews for places, but this instance was pretty out of the ordinary, and so I don't think I can pass this one up. Been going to Cloud Forest for 5 years now. Always went with my friends, we always bought our coffee and pastries and gave them our business. Today, I went in around 10:30am. I was waiting for the lunch menu to open up at 11am, so I can order a lunch panini. Within 5-10 minutes of my arrival (I was just sitting at a table), the owner comes up to me and asks if I'm ready to order. I reply that I'm waiting for the lunch menu to order a sandwich, in 20-30 minutes. To my surprise, he stares at me and says "no, sorry. this isn't a library." It threw me off guard. I went up to him and said "I think that was pretty rude. I come in here all the time. You see me here. I come here with friends and always buy my coffee and muffins. I told you that I was going to order an $8 sandwich once the lunch menu opens up, in 30 minutes." And he just replied "I wasn't rude. I asked politely. I'm not entertaining that." I've seen plenty of reviews here regarding the owner as well. Unfortunate. Nice little local cafe with decent coffee, but today's incident was incredibly unprofessional. read more

Hands down THE best place in Davis to get a panini. This place is such a low key little cafe that, in my opinion, deserves a lot more credit and attention from the Davis locals! I've come here on several occasion and have not once been disappointed with neither the grub they have to offer nor the service they provide. Though their menu is small, expect every food item to be a good choice- you can't go wrong! I'd say my favorite is the Cache Creek Caliente: roast beef, swiss cheese, tomatoes and lettuce with a really good Chipotle spread that gives it a little kick. They press their sandwiches in their panini grill for the perfect amount of time so that you get a nice, crisp crunch out of their bread with every bite. (The Cloud Forest and the Villager are also great choices if you don't like a little spice). You also get a teeny side of carrot sticks or potato salad. I wish they were more generous with the potato salad! Accompany your meal with an Iced Chai Tea Latte and prepare to be amazed. It washes down your food in the best way possible and leaves you urkingggggg for more. There's both indoor and outdoor seating and the place is never too crowded at any given time. Nothing ruder than walking into Cloud Forrest, putting down my tablet, looking at urgent messages, and the manager walking up to me, stating "ready to take your order", loudly and rudely, quite embarrassing. Treated me like a criminal for stealing their WiFi in less than 10 minutes. He was just as rude when I went up and ordered.Not very likely I will be back, especially since my home coffee turf is Peets coffer, right around the corner. read more

Great coffee and food! I always get a Cloud Forest panini or if breakfast, the #4, ham and egg panini but it's all scrumptious! Friendly service. Place gets busy and they do have a 2 hour limit on wi-fi which is fine as it keeps the tables moving for incoming customers. Too many coffee shops in Davis are used as study halls making it difficult to get a seat. read more

Cloud forest? More like Cloud nine! I dont feel like I'm in the forest here... But I do feel like I'm in ecstasy evertytime I take a bite out of their panini. A friend recommended eating here at first. Was not disappointed. Cloud forest salad is so fresh and so clean [clean]! The bits of mozzarella cheese make it so worth the price. Panini's are off the heezy here. Better than Panera in my opinion. and the workers... Specifically the young workers... Especially the skinny Asian supervisor.. Is so nice! So friendly! Sometimes they're understaffed so you'll see a line of people and there's only two workers. Give em a break! Dont be rude, Felicias! They deserve that extra tip. Also the owner is such a gentleman. Some of the older staff aren't so happy as the young workers but the owner is definitely an exception. Great place to get work done cause they offer WiFi for free. read more

My favorite study spot in Davis! Free wifi and a friendly owner. The drinks are always made to perfection and the panini's are so delicious. They are always playing the best study music and there is almost always a spot available near an outlet. They also have the cutest outdoor patio if you just want to grab an iced drink and catch up with friends (I recommend the seasonal affogato). In my opinion way better than Mishkas or Temple. read more

This is what I miss about Davis. I moved away years ago, but coming back and discovering this gem brings back all of my fond memories. I had a teriffic panini with a tall glass of fresh brewed iced green tea. The outdoor seating is shady and inviting. Our server, Paola was a sweetheart. I like the Cloud Forest cafe. I have no substantial complaints about it. But I also don't choose to come here all that often. I just prefer other places like Mishka's better. The atmosphere is nice, the seating is better than Mishka's... but the variety of drinks is smaller. I had a nice chai iced tea there once. The flowery flavored iced tea was nasty. read more

I love their Cloud Forest Panini! The panini was very well put together with no meat or produce falling off from either side of the sandwich. It was grilled to the perfect crisp and it tastes refreshingly healthy. The garlic pesto was very flavorful. It's the perfect 'light on the stomach' lunch. Highly recommend the Cloud Forest Panini. The first time I went here, I ordered a sugar free Vanilla Latte along with my panini and it was the best coffee I have had in Davis! It had a very rich coffee taste, a quality that I love in my coffee. However, the second time I came to get the same latte, it wasn't as taste bud-satisfying as the first time I tried it, but it was still good. Maybe they just had an off day with their coffee. My friend ordered a strawberry smoothie ( which I had a sip of ) and I can't say that I liked it. It had a very icy texture, almost as if it was ice just blended with strawberry concentrate. There was no creaminess of the smoothie I was expecting. All in all, this is a great study spot with many tables, where you can grab a good lunch and coffee at the same time. read more

After living in Davis for almost 5 years, I have never visited this place. Now that I have finally did, i will definitely come back many more times. I ordered the house panini and it was delicious. Great flavors and perfect crunch. The only thing I ask is that the person making the sandwiches to please wear a hairnet. It would be nice not to find a long piece of hair on my plate. read more

This is my favorite cafe study spot in Davis. Mischka's gets all the hype, but this place is so underrated. The coffee drinks are better, and the food selection is better because it also includes delicious paninis and salads. They also have delicious juices and smoothies. They play awesome music and the staff are so friendly. I highly recommend getting the fresh mozarella panini. Also gotta love how they serve coffee in ceramic mugs with cool designs. read more

I have strayed away from this cafe after reading one bad review, and I'm so sorry that I did. I was meeting a friend and we decided to come here, but didn't realize that it was already closing time. The lady behind the counter was nice enough to let us get something really quick though. I had the cloud forest panini, and it was the best panini I've had in Davis thus far! She was really nice to let us sit outside while she cleaned up inside and gave us a time at which she would be out to take the tables and chairs away. I am definitely a fan of this place, and can't wait to go back to try other items on the menu! read more

This is about my third or fourth time visiting Cloud Forest Cafe under it's current management. Each time has proven to be an enjoyable experience; friendly greeting, pleasant atmosphere, attentive service and great food. During my most recent visit, I selected a drink called 'Pink Lady' (non-alcoholic) and a Panini sandwich, based on staff recommendation. I found this to be an excellent suggestion. Rudest cafe management I have seen: The sign with the Internet access code says you can stay here for only 2 hours during busy times, and it literally adds that "grace period is 15 minutes." This is the first I have seen in Davis. And then there was a lady customer sitting at the table next to me. About 5-10 minutes later after she came in, the owner came up to her and said "excuse me, what can I order for you?" (Usually people order up front at the counter and the owner doesn't usually have to approach customers for orders.) So the owner was implying that she can't sit here without buying food. The lady said she was waiting for her friend. The whole thing gave me a cold vibe. I ordered the cloud forest (house) panini, it was descent, except it did NOT have the avocado as the menu said it would. I am not coming back here again. read more

I really like this place... but only in the early mornings when it's not crowded. It's a nice, open space with lots of seating. I also like their variety of drinks and food. Their paninis are pretty good but my favorite is their Nutella Mocha (it's amazing). The smoothies are good, too! A major downside, however, is that the wifi is completely useless when the place is crowded (which is why I gave it four stars instead of five). And I wish it was open later than 6 PM. read more

I was really excited when I heard this place would be opening up. "Cloud Forest" sounded like my kind of cafe. I imagined neat-o organicky/local sorts of foods and drinks, a cool atmosphere and a focus on green business. They have some of that, but not enough to impress me. Pros: Their sandwiches are great. I like the concept of fresh-squeezed juices, and the beet-orange combo is surprisingly tasty. They have Village Bakery pastries. They roast their own beans. The servers are friendly. Cons: After more than six months in business, they still do not have "for here" glasses for their cold drinks. They serve their juices and sodas in plastic to-go cups with lids and straws. Real turn-off. So are the throw-away plastic containers for the apples or potato salad that come with their sandwiches. The boring hard-rock satellite radio is not at all my idea of cafe music. Now, I'm not asking for jazz (though it would be my first choice) but this was distracting and distasteful. I'll probably come back for a sandwich but not to hang out. read more

This is a nice place downtown to go for a coffee, panini, or light conversation! I like that I really get that homey cafe/coffee shop feel here. Room temperature is also very well regulated. Americano is my drink of choice. Can't say much about the study environment, since I've never done much of that, but I did notice quite a few laptops around. Seats could be more comfortable, but it' still OK. read more
