This is the first time that we have eaten here. So far the service had been really good and the appetizer was excellent, we got the stuffed potatoes. The building is an old school and they have an outside area that is fantastic. I totally enjoyed sitting outside underneath the trees. I had the Blackened Ribeye and it was terrific. My husband requested that I title this post "The Dinner Jacket Version Of Bill Knapp's." Mediocre food, at best, with a indifferent service staff. To be honest, I should have known better. We tried to go 3 different times to use our groupon, and if we didn't need to use the groupon, we would happily have skipped this based on rude customer service alone. Attempt number 1 to get a table was met with the presumed owner/manager literally turning his back on us and walking away because we could not make a decision on whether we'd like to wait 60+ minutes for a table in less than 3 seconds. Attempt number 2 started with the question "I was wondering if I could make put my name in for a table at 7:30?" This should not be met with a simple "no ma'am." No ma'am, what? You don't take reservations? There's no tables at 7:30? I realize that "no ma'am" is technically a valid answer to the question, but probably not the one you'd want to be your first impression to a customer that isn't one of your geriatric regulars or close friends. By the time we went back for try #3, we waited our 45 minutes to be seated (and overheard the owner telling everyone about the groupon causing the waits), my husband and I remembered why we hadn't been back in 8 years. Truly mediocre food, ridiculous prices, and poor service. He had the "special" pulled pork sandwich--a normal-sized sandwich, served with a handful or foodservice fries and a scoop of coleslaw for $11. I had the Citrus salmon salad. At $16, I expect a bit more than underseasoned, overcooked salmon and a fistful of random toppings on iceberg and romaine mix. Boring dressing, boring toppings (bell pepper, carrot, raisins, canberries, and canned mandarin oranges), and boring fish. For $16. No drink refills, no attempt to offer any of the upsells that you expect from a restaurant. Our bill was brought before we were done, and nobody asked about dessert. And here's where things leave the rails. We ask for a dessert menu, figuring that we haven't spent the $40 yet. Our server tells us that only 2 of the desserts are homemade. Do you really, really want your customers to know this? I mean, I suppose honesty is the best policy, but I think most people who go to a small, non-chain, independently owned restaurant would like to at least keep up the illusion that the prices they're paying are for a homemade product. Most of us know this is not the reality, but to point out that you're potentially going to consume something that came out of a box is not the way to get that dessert sold. Nonetheless, we plow ahead. We order a piece of the homemade key lime pie. Oh wait...no...they're out. On a Thursday. They're out of one of two of their homemade desserts. When we try again, they're out of the chocolate cake too. Awesome. So we call it a day and put that groupon in with the check, which totals $32.50ish (for a bbq sandwich, a salad, and 2 cokes, remember...). Well, our server rather abruptly says that we cannot use the groupon unless we spend $40. I correct her, saying that there's no stipulation on this groupon that says we must spend a minumum of $40, but that groupon's policy is that you cannot get cash back for the unused balance of a groupon. Well, she's literally not going to take our bill until we spend $40, no matter how many times I tell her that it's not in the fine print that was obviously specific to this deal (couldn't use it on 5/8, must buy a food item). We order two desserts (to go) that we now know are not homemade (and they wouldn't have fooled us for 10 seconds anyway), bring the bill up to $45, pay, and leave. Yes, we left her a tip. It's not her fault that the owner/manager s not interested in honoring the terms of his deal. Advice to restaurant owners considering doing a groupon deal. If you can't meet the demand, lower the number of certificates you're willing to offer. And if you ever want people to come back again, you probably don't want to invoke a lot of rules about using it that were not included in the original deal. So, the TL;DR version is that the food is pretty meh, regardless of how much it costs, but the cost is another unattractive feature. The owner's captive audience of AARP members will keep him afloat, but to consider this anything more than a vanity project of a restaurant would be a sham. read more

My 2 friends and I ate dinner here Tuesday night, the first time here for 2 of us. The building is interesting, and the inside was nice. You go up stairs or a ramp to enter, and up another steep flight to use the Ladies Room (I asked about ADA compliance and was told that "they use the Men's Room" ). My one friend has Celiac disease and can NOT eat wheat/grains, and she is also lactose intolerant and can not eat dairy, so she had called ahead to find out it there was anything she could eat. She also asked the waitress a few questions, and the waitress did try her best to find out the answers although she seemed a bit put out. When my friends spinach salad came, she was dismayed to find it had cheese on top (that she had to scrape off). I also do not eat dairy, wheat or meat, for serious health reasons, and I had also called the chef ahead of time to ask about my options. He said that they would try to make what I wanted if they had the ingredients on hand. When eating out I usually can find enough side dishes to order to make a meal, HOWEVER this restaurant does NOT list sides on the menu, so we again had to quiz the waitress, who was tiring of all this but tried to be helpful. She did not know what the prices of sides would be, so I ended up ordering the pork chop meal because the sides sounded good, and I had the pork chop put in a to go back to take home for my husband. The mushroom and onions side was VERY good and I wished that I could have had a bigger portion. The veggies and potatoes were OK. Needless to say, we will not be back here, when we can find more accommodating restaurants who are happy to even make special items for us - one restaurant even went out and bought quinoa so they could make us a quinoa salad (the Grove Park Grill). read more

We can always count on a good meal and very friendly service at Clough Crossings and tonight was no exception. Finding out that Monday is half-price wine night was an added bonus to our dinner out with family. The pork chop was juicy and tender and well-accompanied by the garlic mashed potatoes. My sister-in-law raved over the rainbow trout almondine, which filled her plate with plenty to share. My husband and I went here using our Foodie Cincy card deck. The description was pretty accurate. We immediately noticed a lot of grey hair and thought the menu would follow suit. Luckily we were wrong. We each had a local craft beer on draft and shared the Cajun seafood pasta and grilled tilapia tacos. We sat outside on the deck that backs up to a nice wooded area. Interesting place. Food first of all is limited, bad choice if you don't like seafood or one of the 30 items on their menu that includes scallops, salmon, tilapia, chicken and one beef dish. The crowd is generally over 40/50 so seems like a good place to bring your parents when they're in town. The food is yummy but nothing to write home about.
