I hated, hated, hated this place. I don't hate a lot of places, but this place really worked hard to be the place that I hated, hated, hated. Imagine a focus group of accountants sitting around a fluorescently-lit boardroom, chewing on cigars, brainstorming: "Hipsters like Mexican food. They also like soul food. But not all of them want to go to those areas and eat food with people from those regions. I know - let's make a place that serves both Mexican food AND soul food and put it in Venice!" Now you might think, okay, some crossover food, maybe of the quality of a Chili's. But no. Start with the Michelada. How can you screw up an ($8) drink consisting of beer and spices? They figured out a way: add lots of ice and let it melt before serving, so it's a water beer spice cocktail. We ordered a quarter smoked chicken. What arrived was a monstrosity - a half smoked chicken, that wasn't really smoked, and I'm pretty sure it wasn't really chicken. It was about the size of a Prius, pumped with water and had the taste and color of styrofoam. I felt like I was getting my yearly antibiotic supply just by osmosis of eating it, and that I would have tested positive for steroids after the fact. It went downhill from there. They had lots of taco options on their TIKI TACO TUESDAY menu. I thought that, if I had a dog, and didn't know what brand of dog food to get it, it would give me a good opportunity to sample all of the possible flavors before choosing one. Sides were collard greens and a biscuit. The collard greens were dry, and oily, and shredded like prepackaged lettuce, containing pieces of meat which, if someone put a gun to my head, I would guess were bacon. I would only say that because I enjoy soul food, and I know that collard greens often come with bacon. The biscuit was a small little thing that had some kind of flavor in there that might have been cheese. The other two mains were ribs and chicken wings. Both tasted the same and were distinguished only by shape. If I had to recreate it at home, I would get low-quality meat, put some ketchup on it, put it in a dehydrator for a few minutes, and serve. After our meal, our waiter asked if we would like to try the churros. Because I love churros and want to have my fond feelings about them unsullied, I declined. read more

So, driven by this spot plenty of times and never stopped. We decided to grab something light on a Tuesday and Yelp had good reviews and Clutch had a Taco Tuesday happy hour promotion. First, you gotta get over the hipster convention up in here. It was like they were coming out of the walls. So not our crowd. Second, the tacos were small but nice. We had the smoked chicken and the vegetable tacos. I preferred the chicken. Good flavor, a bit of pop to them. With this Tuesday menu, these are a really good deal. Our server was personable and helpful. Didn't get that hipster vibe from her, which was refreshing. They have a medium to small sized parking lot right by the door. Clutch is no longer. I guess this place went through a change and now the sign outside says Cervateca. Although, when you're inside there are signs of the original Clutch. We used to come here because they had fantastic wings and ribs. That's pretty much what this place was known for. But now, they've expanded their menu, which isn't a bad thing, but it's pretty much a Mexican restaurant now. So they still have the Clutch classics like wings and ribs but it's just not the same. It's not bad, but again, not the same. You also now have to order at the counter yourself and grab a number and sit. So it's a self serve type of place now. And, those fantastic sauces they used to have on the table, they are gone. However, they do provide sauces on the side with your order which is great. But I really hate when a great restaurant that had a great thing going decides to rebrand. It never works. read more

Fix your online hours on Yelp and elsewhere. It's super unprofessional and you lose customers forever when I drive there 20 minutes based on your Yelp hours not to rush in 5 minutes before you close but your hours are off by over an hour. No desire to go back bc if they can't even manage this right imagine what does on with the kitchen or the cleanliness or anything else. read more

Not sure if I'm a fan. I ordered as a first time customer here at Clutch through Uber Eats. I initially ordered the Branzino dish, but was told they were out by 6pm on a weekday evening. Disappointing, but things happen. I ordered the steak ribeye dish instead, along with asparagus, broccolini and the mac and cheese. Overall, the flavor was lacking, the food came cold, and the steak was just an fatty cut. Clutch fulfilled the hunger aspect, but did not satisfy the enjoyment of having chef prepared foods. This was a really fun place for a foodie. Especially if you try the sampler platter. We sat outside which had a nice cozy, laid-back atmosphere with maybe almost as many TVs as tables and its also dog friendly! I particularly loved the smoked chicken and brisket. The chicken was so tender and flavorful. However, the sausage for us was sort of meh, and the sides we ordered were a bit cold and not spectacular but the rest of the food and ambience will make me go back again. Next time, I would like to get the chicken and brisket only and maybe try a couple different sides as the corn and beans didn't much do it for us. My husband who lives and breathes meat is looking forward to trying the rib eye. Hopefully we can go back soon. read more

Great Mexican / BBQ Fusion! This place serves a number of Mexican and bbq dishes. For all of their smoked meats you can get the either with a jalapeño biscuit or "taco style" where they give you salsa, guacamole, tortillas, and beans. First off, get the tri tip, taco style. It's very tender and cooked medium rare with some great flavor. If you get the corn tortillas they are made in house. I would also recommend the fries and the pulled pork enchiladas with mole. I tried my very best to make this my new favorite spot. To no avail. Ive ordered exactly six times from them during Covid and they are extremely inconsistent tosay the least. The first time I ordered the tri tip, wings and collard greens, it was amazing. Every other time something was wrong. My greens were floating in grease and so salty my mouth almost turned inside out. My tri tip was dry. I got a deformed 1/2 a chicken (the chicken with special needs that probably never walked and died on its own... Attended the 6th annual Stouts n Staches event. Thank you Yelp for the complimentary tickets. The event was outside with a live band, about five different local breweries, a couple food venders, a leather shoe cleaner, a barber, a vendor selling cigars and a vendor offering wine if you're not into beer. I upgraded the tickets to VIP to receive unlimited pours of beer and wine. This also comes with an order of the roasted pig and a souvenir cup. The food was delicious. The live band was really nice. They also had heat lamps outside with tables which was perfect since it got cold when the sunset. Parking was available on the street. This was a really cool event and fun event!! read more

After an entire week of quarantine cooking, it was time for takeout from a lucky local business and that just so happened to be Clutch! With a slight craving for BBQ, a quick glance at the menu and we were on our way towards a perfect night in. I've driven past Clutch for years and I'm so glad we finally gave it a spin! Our take away back consisted of the tri tip sandwich (with tots OF COURSE), a surf n turf burrito, mac n cheese and they had thrown in some roasted veggies on the house since i was the last order of the day (yay for free veggies!) We went here on a sunny Saturday. The atmosphere is nice enough considering that we are sitting in the parking lot. The food: I had the pulled pork sandwich with tots. The pulled pork was nice and lean but there was no sauce, bbq or otherwise. The tater tots were tasty but fried so much that the meal became heavy. Hours later I still felt it like a rock in my stomach. The same goes for the fries here. My Margarita was too tangy. I think it was made from a mix. Next time, I would try the Sangria. I went here because I saw it on an episode of "The Best Thing I Ever Ate" where Antonia Lofaso said their "Gringo Taco" was the best thing she's ever eaten. I went to Sunday Brunch with a large group of friends for my boyfriends birthday. We were excited about the bottomless mimosa's. The brunch menu was way better than I hoped for. The tri-tip benedict was a flavor explosion. I don't know what was used in that hollandaise sauce, but I can't stop thinking about how good it was. The tri tip was juicy and perfectly cooked. Everyone in my group was so happy with their food. Their eyes were popping out of their heads when the food was brought out. The service was excellent. There was about 25 of us and our server Shannon was on it. She was friendly and fast. It's not easy dealing with a group of that size drinking the way we were. Cool spot along Lincoln. Busy during brunch on a Sunday with some decent menu options -BBQ fare with a Mexican twist. BF ordered the rib eye which was cooked perfectly. $4 for a side of fries that were just meh. Nothing special. Mushrooms were dry but grilled scallions were good. I loved my crispy dry rubbed pork ribs. Perfect dish for my Keto diet. My only gripe is that neither of the BBQ sauces had heat. This rating is for sanitation. Just picked up food (April 6th at 8pm) and this is the second time the person packing the food used his bare hands (no gloves) to put chips in with food. I don't mind the gentrification going on in our neighborhood bc I do admit, some of the new restaurants are bomb.com. I came here with a friend and was disappointed. First, none of their cocktails are made with any fresh ingredients. Bummer. If im paying so much for a cocktail I would like it to be made with fresh ingredients. We ordered via DoorDash: tri-tip, Cali-Mexi bowl, Clutch burrito, & roasted veggies. No mistakes on the order. Food was hot, delicious, filling/comforting, and prepared with care, neatly plated inside the to-go containers. I'm not big on take-out/delivery, but since we can't dine-in right now, we'll order from Clutch again. (note: we've been to the restaurant a few times. Service is friendly. Ambiance is lively with covered, outdoor seating area that does a decent job making you "forget" you're on Lincoln blvd.)
