These guys are BY FAR the worst moving&storage company I have ever encountered in my 40 years of living in Bay Area, and I have moved quite a bit during that time. I never left a negative review on Yelp before but for these guys I will make an exception, hoping that somebody will learn from my mistake and will avoid them and their horrible service and lies. It all has started fine - I really liked their business model - free mover services (up to 8 hours for each moving to their storage and from it. ) They have pretty good website with good UI. Their storage was slightly more exepensive than competition, but the convenience of what they promise (hassle free moving+storage at good price) and "free" movers services they promise on their website made it look like a great deal. Little did I know I will soon have to join the ranks and add my vouce to their choir... Short version - I was a complete idiot, I should have pay attention to the legion of those 1star recent reviews. If you are reading this - now is your chance not to be an idiot like I was, and not repeat my huge mistake by hiring these guys. These people have actually canceled my appointment on the morning of the move! And they did it under ridiculiously false and fake excuse, simply because they were greedy and lazy, and wanted much more money that the terms of their agreement advertize. So here what has happened - I have a medium sized 1 BR apartment with average or a bit above average number of things. Nothing crazy or heavy. But just to be on the safe side, I have ordered 3 people rather then 2 , and I gave them detailed description of all stuff I have in my appartment with detailed photos, as they requested. So these 3 jerk movers (in my case their names as I was informed were Alex, Victor and Jesus) had arrived 1.5 hours late. (9.30am instead of 8AM they had promised. And they claimed that they have already been working for 2 hours on my case the moment they arrived (out of 8 free hours their service promised) I live in Mountain View. They must be living in Chicago or something, and appetently they counted such 2 hours road from it as part of their promised work hours. No other moving company does it. But the worst thing - once they arrived they decided they dont want to move me, because I had too many things to their liking, even though I detailed everything in advance. They said its a "two days job" (for three people moving one medium-sized one bedroom apartment. Duh!) And they pushed me very hard for me to cancel my appointment with them. When I declined, they told me that they are starting my move and will be callng their office for more people to help - BUT INSTEAD THEY LEFT WITHOUT EVEN INFORMING ME! And they gave competely fake reson for it in their report to their office! They costed me a lot of time, headache and money. I had to find another moving company (a very good one, fortunately) on the next day. And they have completed this "two days move" (for 1Bedroom Apartment!!) in 3 and half hours! Bottom line - this Clutter company has the worst service ever - these guys are liars, who try to trap you with their false promices of free movers when you rent their storage, and then cancel the appaintment on the day of the move, and blatantly lie about it! Terrible terrible company. I honestly don't even know how a company like this is operating. Used their 'packing' and storage service and when clutter says 'packing' they mean randomly throwing fragile items into boxes without any wrap. They damaged my 1) bedside lamps 2) digital scale 3) wall art frame and completely lost my knoll office chair I just purchased a couple of months ago which I paid $380. They also don't document and (although they are supposed to) and say "it wasn't documented so we have to deny your claim." What kind of company is that? I thought I'd save some money by going to clutter but nope. They will waste your time, money and stress you out. DO NOT USE THEM. For those considering to do a long distance move after using the storage, ask around. Many top rated companies I called said they don't wanna work with clutter since their operation is terrible. Unfortunately Clutter just sent TWO movers and a smaller truck even if 4 days before we asked for THREE movers and a BIGGER truck since we were sending a lot more things. They're not just a storage company--they provide all the services around storage that people need In order to make it work for them, and it's all driven from a high-quality user interface. I chose to move my things from security public storage to Clutter because I was stuck with my storage. I couldn't move the things in the storage well enough by myself in order to go through it and cull the collection of stuff. Clutter digitizes this, making the work easy instead of too difficult to even contemplate. In addition to that, the storage cost is $100 cheaper per month, so this was a no-brainer for me. There are two things that weren't great about my appointment: the team was 45 minutes later than the app said they would be, which was fine since we needed time to go through what was in the storage unit anyway, but my son started moving an antique and was a little bit careless with it and ended up doing significant damage to an antique. if we hadn't waited so long, he wouldn't have been impatient and started doing things himself, which would've been much better for me. One other surprise was that they did not disclose before hand (that I noticed anyway) how strict they were going to be regarding evidence of cockroach droppings, spiders, and rats. Their policy makes sense and I am not complaining about it. It's good. But they refused to take three of my larger items because of these critters in my storage. While, I'm not angry about this, at least not at Clutter (!), I do need to come up with a solution for dealing with these three items. That had to happen sooner or later, so it's just as well. Eduardo was the team leader on our move and Gregory and Oscar helped move. They were outstanding. Eduardo was an effective leader and I appreciated how well he handled the difficult situation that came up when a dead rat fell out of a drawer in an armoire I had asked them to move . Progress halted while the nice assistant manager at security public storage cleaned up the rat and the storage unit. Eduardo said I would be reimbursed for this time which I think I was. Eduardo refused to store that armoire at all. I'll be getting it professionally repaired and hope for a reimbursement from security public storage. This company is the worst. It's a rip-off. They keep raising your bill. Please do not sign with them - your bills would go up and it's very expensive to get your stuff out of their hands. It started when they did not do their job well. They were late to the appointment, then they left a bunch of my stuff behind because they did not have time to finish their work. Now my landlord is giving me bad feedback because of the stuff that was left behind (I could not physically be there during the covid closed borders), and that is on top of that I lost those items. Next, they keep raising the monthly bill. It went from $300 to $450. When I asked to reduce the price a bit they were very strict about it. They know it's very expensive and hard to move out of their storage which is outside of the city so they use this advantage. Then I decided that I still want to move my things to storage in SF which was just $170 a month for the same amount of storage. When you go through the flow of canceling they offer to "lower your monthly bill" to $290.. At that time I thought OK, I will stay with them since they lowered the price. But they actually did not. They unpack everything for you so you have to pack it there again. And, if you leave anything behind they charge you $150. I found it hilarious since they left a lot of my belongings in my apartment. "Changes after that point will incur a charge that is the higher of $100 or 50% of your appointment fee " - also funny from the guys who were late to appointments at my house and because of that did not have time to finish packing my things. Now I'm trying to empty my storage unit and I'm running into more issues - they only allow one reservation at a time (whichI understand is an odd request). Poor support team has been given scripts that state "one appointment per customer is a policy applied to all customers to ensure fair availability across the board." No manual option with support, just wait. The support team had a very fast response, but were not equipped to help me with my request. I am sadly preparing myself for my items to be broken and ruined like many of the other reviews :( Oh, and their prices went up significantly since I started using them in February, so take note it's not as reasonable as they may note. One of the worst customer experiences I've ever had. I reserved a pick up appointment 5 days previous to the day I needed to move out. I went through the whole process, detailed every item that I needed to store, etc. On moving day, I receive a text that the team would arrive between 10:00 AM and 1:00 PM. The window was delayed to 1:30 PM - 5:30 PM, and then rescheduled to 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM, and finally 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM in a series of consecutive texts. At 4:40 I reached out via chat to confirm where the team was. I was told they were en route to my appartment and would arrive shortly. However, an hour later I get a call from the operations team telling me that they would not make it. No attempts to fix the problem were made, except offering to arrive the next day. When I told them that I had to move out that same day, they promptly cancelled the pickup. This left me with a very big problem, because my lease was ending that same day, and I was headed out on a flight the same night. I had about 2 hours to figure it out. To solve it I had to leave part of my stuff at a friends house, the rest is packed in my car, leaving me to deal with a risk of theft. I almost did not make it to the flight. I also got an email warning me of a $200 USD fee because I had cancelled with less than 24 hours of notice, even though Clutter cancelled the appointment. This has been the worst customer experience I've had in a long time. I would have really appreciated an earlier notice of the team not making it. The constant rescheduling and 0 attempts to fix the problem left me feeling like I was the lowest priority customer that day. I'm trying to be as honest as possible with this review to make sure you don't overpay 3-4x on your moving bill. They have a simple website to set up the move, but the ease comes at several disadvantages. First off, beware of moving professionals that can hide behind big companies, because they typically couldn't get hired at smaller companies with reputations on the line. They aren't paid as well at the big companies, so that's the only reason they would take the job. These movers routinely take twice as long as the real pros. Second, Clutter claims they move your stuff for free. However, read the fine-print: only the first hour is free. That would be fine with good movers, but these guys take 4 hours for a 2 hour job, so you end up paying for 3 hours. Third, they deliberately underestimate how much space you need to fit your stuff, so that they can upsell you when the movers get there and tell you "looks like your stuff is too big". Then - and you can check this - they don't let you increase your term from 4 to 8 months, because that would let you get a better deal on the storage space. When the move starts, you're locked into your term. It's only remotely worth it to upgrade to a 10x10 space if you are going for 8 months. So start with 8 months. I've verified that the customer support people have programmed scripts to explain to you why you're paying more. One of them is "It looks like your move is taking longer than expected." You'll hear that one, I promise. I've used the service twice in San Fransisco (2024), and have spent many hours on customer service. I'd skip it, but if you're not concerned with paying around twice as much as you normally would, it is a rather clean and smooth experience. read more

When I give them my new address in New York City, having moved in the FOUR YEARS it took them to locate the painting, they tell me I am outside of their service area and that they have no way to get it to me. Worse experience by far from movers in my lifetime and I am someone who has moved many times. Do not uses unless you want damages that are over the cost of your move and an unresponsive company who does not quickly respond to damages. A few days after this post Clutter was quicker to respond to the claims I submitted and did cover most of the damages, but I am now left with having to hire people to fix everything they broke and take time off work to be available or to go shopping to find replacements. I asked for a reduction in service fee since we paid $1600+ for the move. The request was denied from Hailey the Trust and Safety specialist saying that a reduction in service fee was not needed "Since we have already gone above policy for your claims." Says a lot about a company who believe fixing what was broke is "above policy". BEWARE. Sort the Clutter reviews by the recent ones and you will see this is no longer a 4 star company. I received a ton of communication in advance via email and text so I knew exactly what to expect for my pick up day. It was my first time putting anything in storage so I really appreciated that. Khilaje & Jordan were extremely professional, easy going, and efficient. When they arrived they introduced themselves and explained the process to me very clearly. They answered all my questions and I felt totally comfortable with the entire process. They also helped me consolidate and protect my bulky items that didn't fit in moving boxes. Last year, I used Clutter to move out of and into my dorm. Many of my belongings were brought back scratched or broken, and I had to talk to customer service for days before they finally agreed to pay for any damages. They initially refused. This year, I made an appointment weeks in advance for Clutter to help me move out of my dorm. My appointment was supposed to start at 11:00 on a Friday, and at 11:07, I was notified that my appointment was cancelled and rescheduled for the following Wednesday. Despite my explaining that I legally had to be out of my dorm before Monday, Clutter did not make any accommodations. Since it was so last minute before move-out, I had to pay hundreds of dollars for another moving company to get my things and hundreds more for alternative storage. This added up to approximately $1,700. This was also during my graduation weekend, so my family and I missed out on most of the weekend because we had to pack what I had relied on Clutter to pack. I filed a claim and was only offered $200. When I contested this, the agent said that they "didn't even apply a cancellation fee" for an appointment *they* cancelled after it was supposed to start. I strongly advise against using Clutter, especially if you have a deadline to move out. They are extremely unreliable and unwilling to correct their mistakes. read more

Run, don't walk, from Clutter! If I could give negative stars, I would! How awful is Clutter, let me count the ways: 1. They moved our items - without our permission - from their San Francisco storage location to Tracy, which is 2+ hours away. There was no prior notification of this move. Had we known, we would have taken our items before that move. While removing our items from their Tracy warehouse, I met another person moving a single item out and she said Clutter did the same thing to her. She wasn't notified either. So apparently this is Clutter's standard business practice - unethical IMO. 2. They charge fees for everything including removing our items from the warehouse. The person I mentioned above said, it cost her more to drive to Tracy, pay the removal fee than the cost of the item she was removing. The reason she was removing the item was because she was slightly over their cubic storage limit and the overage costs were astronomical. BTW, there's a fee for them to get rid of/donate your stuff too. She agreed, their marketing is bait and switch. Super nice to get your business and then its a full 180 after they have your things. 3. Clutter would not deliver the items to our location even though they advertise delivery services. Of course we would have paid for this service but it wasn't even an option. 4. The instructions when you arrive at the warehouse is to check in at the office to get assistance to access and remove our property. There was no one there even though we had an appointment. We called the phone number as instructed on their front door sign and there was no answer. I left a message and there was no call back. I finally walked around to the back through the wide open gate leading to the warehouse facility. After walking around piles of other people's property (real secure, right?!) for some time, I finally located someone to ask for assistance. Took them close to another hour to get our things. It took me less than 15 mins to load compared to how much time I wasted waiting, calling, wandering, searching, waiting some more. 5. They broke our corporate signage in storage. I can totally see how this happened given their tight spaces and use of forklifts to cram each pallet into the slot. They refused to pay for the damaged sign because "they didn't pack it". The sign was triple wrapped in 3 quilted packing blankets. If they don't put the sign the right way on the pallet with the other items, of course it will get caught on something and break. Perhaps my predecessor who chose Clutter didn't read the fine print. This review is to expose their shady business practices so you don't make the same mistake. Don't trust their marketing nor the helpful customer service arranging to take or actually taking your stuff. You will pay and pay and pay in every way possible way after they have your things. I recently used Clutter's point A to point B move service. We moved from one house to another house which is only 6 doors down across the street. Despite what I expected from a large and supposedly reputable company, this became an unforgettable experience in a bad way. Maybe I got unlucky and got assigned to an inexperienced crew? Here is a summary of my experience: 1) The crew was mismanaged. The lead did not communicate and spent most of his time inside the truck and away from the action. 2) The move was a chaos. For example, often part of the crew didn't have much to do because they were slowed down by the work of another crew member. They packed things wrong. And when delivering, they left boxes mostly in the hallway after the front entry of the destination house. 3) They ended up wasting a lot of time. It was a mismanaged job and not optimized for the short travel distance. A job that should have finished in less than a day got extended to the second day which was scheduled 3 days later. We needed to hand over the house to the new owner so you can imagine the level of stress that this situation caused. 4) There was trash and unused packing material left behind. 5) They ran out of certain packing materials quickly resulting in a major slowdown of work. read more

Update! Clutter did reimurbse us for the dresser they broke. nice. and unexpected. however as we unpacked our other stuff they also (1) dropped our TV, shattering the screen making it totallly unusable. and (2) when they stored our wool rug, left if in a damp spot somewhere where it became infested with moth larvae worms which has also completely ruined the rug and potentially infested our house. (3) they also chipped our lamps and dropped several of our "fragile boxes" obviously they refused to compensate us for ruining all of these items. so we're still down an extra $3K+ with other items they ruined. so it really makes no sense at all to use Clutter to move and store your items since theyre going to break/ruin them and youre going to have to replace them anyways. youre honestly better off just throwing all your stuff directly in the trash since with clutter thats where itll likely end up anyways and you wont have to pay them to store it! read more

I was foolish enough to use them for a second time after my first experience left a ton of my stuff damaged. I thought to muself, they can't destroy a mattress. But I was wrong- they LOST my brand new king size mattress which they only had for a little more than 6 months. Then they want to bill me for the delivery of the frame without the mattress which I NEVER would order delivered without it's mattress. I notice here that others have had their stuff "lost," Are they just stealing it? It always seems to be new, good mattresses that go "missing." This is criminal/fraudulent. read more
