The food was great and the staff was so awesome! The burgers were delicious and the kids meals in cars were super fun. The staff were great. The service people behind the counter were so incredibly rude. Don't ask for a straw, bc you will get an ear full of anger. Also, we were missing a burger and the counter woman yelled at me for a solid 2 minutes. Then she went to her co-worker and talked nasty about me. The other customers were embarrassed for me and apologizing for her. One customer actually said, "she's like that to everyone." Inexcusably bad customer service. read more

Every time I take a trip up to the U.P. I have to stop and get these burgers, they are seriously the best around. Quick greasy goodness that doesn't come with a guilty conscious afterwards! Seriously some great food, I will always be back for more. read more

This is an OLD TIME drive-in! Don't expect the food to be anything other than what it is -- but it was good-- and cheap! Burger was good, and done to order. The onion rings were great, and super plentiful. I don't get shakes very often, but this seemed to be a chocolate shake kind of place, and I drank the whole thing (decent sized, but not huge, which I like). I sat in my car listening to my book on tape while I ate, but there is some room inside as well. Good for a after a day at the Island, which is lovely but expensive! Took almost 2 hours to get our food and it was greasy and soft when we got it. Don't eat here not worth it!!

Finally got to try a Clyde's burger and was not disappointed. Kept it simple and just ordered just a half pound burger and it was very tasty. A bit greasy but very flavorful and not dried out as many burgers end up being. It is worth the trip if you like burgers. read more

As always, the Bacon cheese burgers were awesome! The only thing was that i saw the cook check the bun meant for my burger and he burned it, so he tossed it out. Great catch cook! He grabbed one out of the bun bag and used it, without toasting it! I love when they toast the buns on the grill. The Chocolate malts, a MUST GET! The only reason I didn't give it a 5 was the girl putting on condiments, (she has stars tattooed on her neck, (Nothing against tattoos, as I have multiple). She was wearing gloves while applying the condiments (that's awesome!) BUT...she took her rag that she wipes down her station , went over to the bucket filled with water & sanitizing solution...swished it around, rang it out and went back to the condiment station. No big deal you think...she NEVER CHANGED HER GLOVES...she grabbed the next bun and proceeded to slather mustard, ketchup and grab onions, all while her gloves were NEVER CHANGED and were still WET! As good as it gets, yes-- if you want a burger joint. Clyde's is a drive-in. It looks like it went up in about 1950 and hasn't changed since. It has a small inside counter where you can rub elbows with your fellow customers (literally). White paint, Formica, facing the grill where you watch the cook slap patties of never-frozen ground beef down onto the big ol' flat grill. And they throw down a lot of beef. Want something vegetarian? Fugeddaboudit, unless you count fries, onion rings, or breaded deep-fried mushrooms. I once ordered the Big C with "everything the law allows." It was three hamburger patties of a quarter pound each, on a huge bun, with about another quarter pound of relish, ketchup, mustard, onions, pickles, cheese, handed over wrapped in a coffee filter. Do not order this one unless you're sure. The smaller burgers are just as good and they are, well, smaller. Reservations? Forget about it. Attire? They insist you wear some, but what kind is up to you. And shoes. I think they insist on shoes. We are talking seriously informal here. read more

This place cannot handle the volume it gets on a Sunday afternoon in the middle of July. The entire building is the size of an average restaurant kitchen - maybe 15 bars stools total? It emphasizes it's old school drive-up and dine-in experience, which we ended up doing, because we couldn't even get in the door of the building. It was a little overwhelming. I felt bad for the poor girl taking orders and lucky to have snagged a spot at the drive in!! It's the UP in the summer... Totally fun but totally insane. Once we ordered everything came out relatively fast, correctly and was delicious! A great drive-in! The best burgers in the area. Service at your car; just like the old days. Or eat at the counter inside. Don't make the mistake of driving past this gem to the McDonalds just past it. Kid's meals come in cute cardboard convertibles. Really an outstanding burger. Cruising through from a car show and we all stopped. Place was jumping but the wait staff got our orders pretty quickly and the food was ready in short order. Really good tasting burger and fries. I'll definitely return when I'm back in the UP. read more

When we arrived, it was extremely busy. There was hardly a place to park. We were there for a good 45 minutes probably waiting for our burgers but we wanted to try it on the way back home. Several of our friends recommend stopping in.The vintage diner atmosphere was nice but more seating area for a place that busy is needed. We could hardly find anywhere to stand while waiting as more people piled in. They burgers and shakes are good though. Would go back and most likely would order ahead of time in the future. Friendly folks here. Bison burger is delicious! Also the Jalapeño burger is fantastic from what I've heard from two friends. The best part about this place is the quality for the price. I didn't come at the lunch rush, but a couple hours after and the burgers ordered came out quite quickly. CASH ACCEPTED ONLY. A family favorite. We come at least once a year. Very speedy service and happy faces who serve. I've not had a bad burger or shake from here. Clyde's is a awesome place to stop in for a quick meal and get back on the road. The Whitefish sandwich is delicious, and the shrimp basket is awesome. This classic "eat in your car" drive up diner is a must stop no matter what direction your coming from. If your on the Mackinaw Bridge I sure hope you are planning on stopping or have already stopped on US.2 in the Upper Penisula for the MaSsIvE BuRgErs, fried items, rootbeer, malts and the other regional diner item Clydes serves up in the summer time. They service is fast -but special orders are not welcomed. They do have a few counter seats, but eating in your car is somewhat of the expierence. I grew up in St Ignace and Clyde's was always a big treat. Now anytime I have to drive through the area I make sure to stop for my cheese burger and chocolate malt. This is classic drive in/ dinner food if you are looking for "healthy" this is not your stop but it tastes soooo good!!! read more

After being out on the Island for most of the day Yelp led us here. The place was pretty busy but we spotted 2 still at the Counter. This is a old school type Carhop/Stool Counter type place....we love these types of places ! The waitress acknowledged us and said she would get with us soon. The Grill is out front so you watch everything being made etc. The beef patties are handmade from a big pile of Ground Beef not machine made. The Cheeseburgers and Onion Rings were pretty tasty ! All 6 people working inside were really hustling to keep everyone happy. Quite a bit going on with the Counter, Carhop and Call-In Take out. It's not a fancy place but it had good food and friendly people. We would stop here again when passing through for sure. read more

We went on the opening day of the season. Understand that means they are NOT open all year. We did get seats right away and were served in a timely manner, so no complaints there. BUT the food was truly average at best. The onion rings were the best thing there. We had bacon cheeseburgers and a chocolate malt. Same'o same'o, nothing to write home to mom about. We drove all the way from Traverse City in the plan to just go here on the word of a friend. After crossing the bridge, buying food and a tip it was $28. Hands down! This place has the best onion rings! I had the BLT and that was pretty great as well. The atmosphere has an old timer feel and enjoyable for us foreigners. Clyde's was an interesting experience. It was incredibly busy but that's a great sign -- right! The burgers were huge with a good flavor. The fries were okay but no where near as good as the burgers. The onion rings were okay but it looked like they were from a bag, not made at the diner. Clyde's came highly recommended and it's clear that many people recommend the place because it was busy. It's a drive-in, so some people are sitting in their cars and others are waiting in a long line by the building. We would stop in again but wouldn't make a special trip to the U.P. just to go to Clyde's Drive-In. read more
