Im a DOD worker for the US Gov. I missed a call from CMRE/FSI and called back and the representative wouldn't give me any info about my "dept" without disclosing my address and last four of my social. The person i spoke with was unprofessional beyond reason. My best advice is to read a good amount of other reviews on here, its the only place i found ease of mind without feeling i had some debt with penalty charges in the making. Similar story here. I missed a bill after a visit to the emergency room, with the name on the bill being different than the name on the insurance filing. CMRE phoned me with what appears to be a legitimate debt. After researching the debt, I called back and offered to settle for the full amount. The lady immediately said yes. After reading these reviews, I refused to hand over any credit card information. Instead I asked for a letter documenting the agreement. At that point she said "I am not CMRE, I am just Elaina." A very slimy tactic! Supposedly they are sending me a notice in the mail. We will see. read more

I received a collection letter from the company for a bill from an emergency room visit. I'd never received that bill before, though I had received and paid a great many others. It sort of boggled my mind that a provider wouldn't send out a second notice and a warning that the bill would be sent to collection before actually doing so. Their story was that my insurance had rejected the claim on the grounds that my coverage was terminated and the person I spoke to basically called me a liar when I told her that was not case. My insurance company contacted them and verified that I was covered and told them to submit the claim. They don't seem very interested in that. They told me it would take 1-3 months and that I should pay up or get my credit ruined. After much prompting I got the info about who had turned the bill over for collection. An address, but no phone number. A web search and a call to 411 showed no such entity. Still haven't managed to get through to the hospital to verify that bill is a fake -- all our representatives are busy -- but given the other comments here, it certainly looks like this is a scam operation. read more

Just got a call from CMRE at my office. Call started with a recorded message saying that if I was (my name) to press 1 and wait for an operator. I did that. Operator comes on and says they need my address or date of birth to "verify my account information." I point out that they called me and that I'd never heard of their company and don't have any business with them - why would I give them any information about myself? She says she can tell me what business they have with me only if I verify who I am ... but THEY CALLED ME! She gives up and tells me that when I'm able to give them the information they need, I can call them back and find out what they want. I'm thinking that might not happen. read more

I had a brand new Visa card through one of my 2 banks- a major bank. I had not used it in almost a month and first used it in a restaurant. My bill came next month and the first charge was from CMRE financial services for $52+. I put all of my medical bills and co-pays on my cash cards and credit cards, however this amount did not match anything. I called them. The first person could not find me; a supervisor could not find me either. So I began to research the company. Thanks for this posting site. I disputed this at my bank. The dispute was settled and cleared; however today I see that a $25.00 charge is pending on my cash card (which I am disputing) at the same bank for a large company who has just acquired accompany called Apollo Health Street who also have a history of "aggressive collection practices". My Visa before I cancel and re-issue and now I had to cancel my cash card. I'm a bit frightened of identity theft right now. read more

These people keep calling me using different numbers from across the United States claiming that I have an unpaid debt that I owe them, but the name they use is either Joe A., Joey, or Joanne Collins. My name is Aurore and my last name is not Collins. I am from Washington state so why is a company from California trying to get in touch with me, especially using multiple different numbers from multiple different cities and states, most of which aren't Washington? You'd think they'd at least be calling me from a Washington state based number. And I've never had any association with these people so why do they keep calling me? I selected One star because I could select nothing lower. CMRE is nothing but a joke. I received an alert on my credit report monitoring that I had a derogatory account. I thought this is not possible. I went in and looked, CMRE placed an account for my EX-HUSBAND of 16YEARS on my credit report. It did not matter that I had remarried and had a different name or that the address was changed. First contact with CMRE, I was advised I would have to provide them my Driver License number, my Social Security number and a copy of my Divorce Papers. I advised the person I was talking with they had no need for my drivers license or ss# because this was not my debt. He then said he could not help me if I was not providing the information he needed. I asked for a manager and was cut off. Second contact with CMRE, I again explained to the person I was talking to and asked them to correct THEIR mistake and she told me since I refused to give information to the first person she could not help me, after I became upset I was finally transferred to a supervisor. Upon speaking to the supervisor, I was told to just send in the Divorce Papers and they would take care of it. The divorce papers were e-mail to them on 2/23/16. I told him I wanted a letter stating this was being removed and he said that would be no problem. Nothing was done! Third Contact with CMRE (3/2/16), I was advised by them it would take 30-45 days to remove this information from my credit report. I told her this was unacceptable. I provided the necessary information. I have worked in collections and it does not take this long. Again I asked about the letter that was supppose to be sent to me, I was told "Oh that has been mailed out already" I told her I did not receive it. "Well it just went out" Okay I will wait for it. Fourth Contact with CMRE (3/7/2016) I am fuming at this point, they did not send me a letter, they changed the address for my EX-HUSBAND to my address and send another demand for payment!! Really and these people think I am going to trust them with my information. No Way! Fifth Contact with CMRE(3/8/16) I called and left two messages at 8:30am and 10:00am for the supervisor to return my call. Never did so I called back and spoke with yet another representative. She advised me yes it was sent to my house in error. I inquired as to how in the world they ever came to the conclusion to change his address to mine. I was told "Oh it was a mistake" I then asked about the letter I never received that went out back around 3/2/16 and was told "Oh I will resend it" Never received it. Still nothing about the address correction. Sixth Contact with CMRE (3/15/16) I called and was told the letter had not gone out because they just implemented a new policy and they need my SS# to send me this letter. I told her this is a bunch of BULL and she and I both know it. I do not have any business with your company and I am only in contact with you because you screwed up. She told me she could help me is she cannot fill out the entries. Yes you can, SS# you can always put refused or just put in all zero's. I asked for a supervisor and just imagine I was cut off again! Seventh Contact with CMRE (3/15/16) I called was placed directly on hold for 15 minutes and then transferred to a supervisors voice mailbox. I left a very stern message as I am very fed up with this now. I have spoke with an attorney and I do not need to provide them any personal information to have this corrected. I know this and they know this. I also just found online a law suit against CMRE where they lost for the very same thing they are doing to me. So I guess that will be my next step file a suit against them and also ask for the costs of the attorney and the time spent with all this other stuff. I have already filed disputes with the three major credit reporting companies. I have filed a complaint with The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. My next step is to contact Jon Nixon, the Executive Vice President @CMRE in Brea, CA. So this has been my very unpleasant experience with CMRE. This company is a scam company to say the least. I was never notified beforehand about the collection being placed on my credit. I was told I had an outstanding balance of nearly $1500.00, then come to find out should have been paid by my health insurance. I called several times and spoke with several representatives, each time someone different. Each of them told me that they would remove the collection off of my credit report once they received payment. Do not believe these people they are liars. They accept payment and leave the collection on your account thus wrecking your credit. There are HIPPA guidelines they must abide by. Mind you I emailed them and mailed them all my explanation of Benefits from my insurance company providing proof that they should have initially been paid by insurance so why is it that my credit is taking a hit? Like others have said I can guarantee you they would have no issue calling you 24/7 if they could but the minute you pay them they forget or ignore all correspondence from you regarding the negative reporting and how they promised to remove it from your credit report. I called them today to inquire why the collection was still on my account and now the representative changed his story ( now that they have payment of course) that I was misinformed that they don' t remove it from your credit and it will remain as a PAID collection on my account. A collection Paid or Not is still seen as a collection either way thus affecting your credit negatively, what was the point of paying it then? A doctor's office sent a bill to a wrong address for me. As CMRE began contacting me about they provided no way for me to verify that this was legitimate except their word. I just wanted to get in contact with the doctor's office, but instead of doing that they insisted that I trust them and that I should pay right now. As I had paid the hospital, I thought I had paid for everything. After going to the hospital, I was finally able to get the correct phone number (the internet led to only to the hospital and not the doctor's office, and I would be put on hold for hours or leave messages that nobody responded to.) CMRE also refused to send me the bill, so even though I was eventually able to verify and pay, they never sent me a paper copy in spite of my requests. So they aren't a scam, but they sure have no interest in proving that they aren't. read more

They are harassing me on a medical invoice where the creditor was paid (overpaid) a copay at the time of service and with the balance paid by the insurance. They actually owe ME money and are dragging their feet getting the overpayment returned to me! They have called me a liar and will NOT listen to any explanation. First off, thats Terrific that Wellesley had a good experience with CMRE... however I'm not some asshole who doesnt pay my bills. Read my review and you will see that they are NOT a legit company and they ARE a bunch of inept ass eating fuck faces I was recently trying to obtain a home loan and was notified that an unpaid medical bill was bringing down my credit score. I immediately called CMRE and was told that I owed $642 for two visits to the ER. After a lot of calling the hospital and my health insurance, it was revealed to me that the amount was to be paid by Aetna and they offered to take care of it in full. I called "Jeanie" back at CMRE and explained the situation, but she didn't buy that I was going to have it paid in full. I mistakenly then provided a $150 payment to her. After a week, I received the $642 check from Aetna and I paid it directly to the medical services that had sent my bill to collections. I later called Jeanie to refund me my $150, which she said she did a claim and I should get it back in a month! I was also to get a letter stating that my debt had been paid in full and removed from my credit report. A few weeks later I got a refund of $140 and no letter. I called Jeanie and she kindly said she would put in a request for the additional $10 to be refunded and also mail out the letter "again"... It has been over a month now and I've yet to see the $10 or a letter. I called Jeanie yesterday and left a message. She did not return my call. I emailed customer service just now with my dilema and hope to hear something back by today. Luckily my loan was still funded for my home, after I proved to them that I paid the bill... but as far as CMRE goes, they are a bunch of Aholes! If I had lost my new home loan due to their negligence I would probably have gone Ape Shit on them. I can guarantee if they wanted a debt paid, they would be contacting me every 5 minutes, but now that they owe ME something, its not an issue for them. They have primitive systems in place for getting people the documentation they need but high tech ways of getting payments. It makes no sense! Update: It's now been over 2 months, I have made a BBB complaint and contacted this company several times to get my $9.08 back (its the principal!) These people are the scum of the Earth! My bill was sent to this group for collections by UCLA Health, and I have been asking for help in reducing the amount as I simply cannot afford it. During the conversation, a representative named "Robert" was insulting, nonresponsive, and abusive towards me and my situation. In one instance I even heard laughter on the other end of the line. These people think that hard-working individuals suffering from chronic illnesses and high medical bills are funny!!!! I repeat, they LAUGHED at me and my situation over the phone! I would think that a respectable hospital like UCLA would use a better collections service but I suppose I am wrong.... Additionally, I sent an email to their customer service account expressing my dissatisfaction over their reps and have as yet not received any sort of response. This company harassed me for almost six months over a $260 bill that my insurance paid! They had me give them my insurance information and said it would be billed. A month later they said I sill owed, so they had me fax my insurance information. NONE of the fax numbers worked, and they just kept giving me more and more fax numbers. Then I sent them my insurance information by mail, which did me no good either. They said they got it then they said they didn't. THEN, they had me send them an acceptance letter from my insurance which did nothing. Their excuse, "our policies are always changing". Complete BS. I finally found out my insurance was billed, hmmmmmmm? My advice, just contact who originally billed you, not CMRE. read more

They put a collection account on my credit for a medical bill that I was expecting my insurance to pay. My credit was perfect and I paid this within a few days of receiving notice from Experian. I was obviously not refusing to pay or couldn't pay. I just wanted to be sure that this wasn't double paid if my insurance covered it. After paying it, now they refuse to remove it from my credit. cmre operates on unethical procedures. they have a long list of complaints against them. if you ever have contact with this company, follow these steps. 1) do not talk to them on the phone. if they call you, only ask for the account number that they have for you, the name of the account you owe, and the amount you owe. do not answer any of their questions, then hang up. 2) write a letter within 30 days explaining why you are not paying the account, and state that you do not owe the money. send this letter to them by regestered mail with return receipt. this letter stops them cold in their tracks. they cannot contact you any more by mail or phone and they cannot report anything on your credit report. send a copy of this letter the same way to the account holder. 3) if you find negative information on your credit report after the date of the letters or they continue to contact you then you report them to the ( ftc ) federal trade commission. the ftc governs the collections agencies through the fair credit act. the ftc is very strict and the fair credit act is very clear to protect you from unfair credit practices. all this information and complaint forms can be found on line at the ftc web site. 4) for negative information on your credit report write them a letter about the account you are not paying and why include copies of the letters written to the collection agency and acccount holder and demand they remove the negative information reported by the collection agency. if the credit reporting company refuses to remove the negative information then demand they include a copy of your letter why you are not paying in your credit report. 5) follow these steps with all the collection agencies that your account will contact to try to collect from you. keep all your documents they may come back several years later. read more

This company just put a degratory mark on my credit score and won't remove it even though it was clearly the hospital fault that after i payed off my medical bills and asked 3 times if there anything else? - and they would tell me: Nope that is all. I have been traveling for work for 6 month and they would not e-mail me, even though they had my e-mail, and now that I payed off the new sum of $125-, they would not take it off of my credit report, just because this is they "policy" and just because THEY CAN. I received a notice from them stating I was in collections due to services I received in a hospital. At the time I did not notice the hospital had billed me twice for the same visit. My insurance paid once and denied the other claim. So not knowing it was a mistake at the time I agreed to pay them monthly until the balance was at zero. I had been paying them every month, but over the last 2 weeks I have been calling to make my payment and their numbers just ring busy not even a recording. Plus they used to call me all the time even when my payment was not due. Haven't heard from them in a while, thankfully as of yet I don't see anything on my credit report. This idiotic company is determined to get money out of ME for a debt that someone who owned my number before me is responsible for. I have repeatedly told them that I have only had this number a week or so and would GLADLY send them documentation to prove it. No luck. Soooo, to show them how it feels to get annoying calls all day, I put them on my dorm's "Blacklist". A blacklist is a list of phone nuimbers that the residents of my dorm posts on a bulletin board in the common area. Residents repeatedly call the numbers ALL day. There are 325 of us and some are technically inclined (automatic dialing systems). Finally, they agreed to REALLY take me off the list of numbers to be called. I have not heard from them since. Sometimes the best way to beat someone is to do it at their OWN game. I cannot tell you how many numbers we have listed on Craigslist for free items. That'll show 'em. read more

Unbelievable conversation with rep trying to pay a large medical bill. The hospital agreed to a low no-interest payment over about 7 years. When CMRE took over, they won't put this agreement in writing unless the bill is paid off entirely within 30 days. They expect debtors to accept verbal agreements for no interest and no bank charges while they charge interest and bank fees. According to them, the interest will be waived when the balance is paid (in about 7 years), but they won't put this in writing. So, I am to trust this verbal agreement while paying them interest in the hope they remember their agreement in seven years. Would anyone do this? read more

Very unprofessional. They even gave me an incorrect fax number. Never pay a Collection Agency. Pay the creditor directly then contact the Collection Agency and let them know you've paid the creditor directly. They will ask for proof of payment, which is fine, send it to them. This ticks off the Collection Agency majorly because then they don't get paid for collecting the debt. read more

My husband (39 yrs old) had a major heart attack with a 90% blockage of his LAD. Needless to say we are so lucky to have him. This event spiraled us into a financial tailspin and we were taken to collections for a portion of our hospital bill. I finally have been able to pay it off after one year and CMRE not only totally screwed our credit with the reporting to the credit companies but refuses to take off the negative report even though the bill is now paid in full. All over their website they talk about collections while maintaining good repore with the people they are collecting against for their clients. BULL SHIT they will get the money and continue screwing your costumers. Other debt collectors like PMS will get the money for you and then remove the negative credit so that it does not affect people for years to come. DONT USE THEM!!!
