I have been to co before and the food is good. However the last time I came was a bad experience. I waited at the host stand for 15 minutes while the host walked around ignoring us. Finally, i grabbed his attention and asked if we could put our names in. He snapped at me and told me that he was low and servers and that i'm gonna have to wait. I don't mind waiting, but he was very rude and aggressive. 15 minutes go by and he asks how many (there's 3 of us) and all he said was yea there's gonna be a wait and walked away again very rudely. no information on how long and put our name in. While this was going on, there was no where to wait or sit and waiters kept walking by us screaming excuse me very aggressively. Went with the family to celebrate my daughter visiting. Had 11 people, separate checks, some fickle eaters and we loved it. Several had never had this kid of food. The Pho was a hit along with some of the curry dishes. During a recent visit to Charleston we chanced upon this eatery while walking King street. We only had one free dinner night as we had already booked dinners in advance at some of the more recognized restaurants in the area such as Circa and Husk. This was hands down the best meal we had during our stay and from a price prospective was the best value. Service was attentive and friendly so I need to give a shout out to Sarah. We had the Spicy Crab Rangoon for an appetizer and the sauce on this was so good that we found ourselves using our fingers to wipe off every lick. Both my wife and I ended up on the Spicy Pho with short ribs and once again this was a great and filling meal. Just went to Co for my third time last night. First two times were great and 5-star worthy. However, last night I came with a group of 8-10 people and we had an uncharacteristically poor experience. Positives first: -Great atmosphere. Modern, very cool vibe. -Full bar with some (not many) great beers on tap -Great date spot -Great food, vegetarian friendly -Decent prices Negatives: We were told 25 minute waiting time when we arrived, which turned out to be over an hour. During the wait our group of 8 had to wait, crammed in the corner by the bar where there was NO AIR CONDITIONING. People were sweating. Very stuffy. After finally being seated, the service was extremely slow. My dinner entree was last to arrive... a solid 10 minutes after the rest of my table was served. We ended up at the restaurant for 3 full hours when all was said and done which has to be a record for me. Note: This was during restaurant week, so I understand things get busy. But man. Our table actually had a discussion about feeling compelled to record this poor experience on Yelp. read more

They are communal tables so you may have to sidle up to some randoms. The service was reasonably good, however on our visit we had a table behind us that was clearly drunk and very loud. Took my wife and kids here for Mother's day. In the interest of full disclosure, my wife is Vietnamese, and a very good cook. The staff was friendly and welcoming. They did have a high chair, but being in such a small space, the only family seating is upstairs. Our 15 month old expects to eat as soon as you put him in a chair, and the food came out almost fast enough to satisfy him. I had the Bun (cold salad with noodles), my wife had the Pho (beef), we ordered the Com Chien (fried rice) for the kids, and at the last minute added the Pork Bun appetizer. The portions were small (with the exception of the fried rice) compared to the other Vietnamese restaurants that have existed around town, and were about 1.5 times the price of what you would pay in major metropolitan cities. I can pretty much forgive this because of the location. The Pork buns and fried rice were my favorites. The Pho was pre-seasoned with Hoisin, and just a little too much for our tastes. The Bun was short on lettuce, and really needed to be in a bigger bowl to be mixed properly. The nuoc mam for my Bun was not nearly enough, but I am confident that they would have brought me more had I asked. The Sirachi bloody mary that my wife had was very good, and the Pork buns were delicious! This is about the only Vietnamese restaurant in town. The Vietnamese cuisine is known for being fresh and cheap. They entrees we had were definitely fresh, but the price will keep our visits to few and far between. read more

Thee food here is good. The chicken lahksa was very tasty and flavorful, something you can't find in traditional "Pad Thai"/Pho places. The infused sake is very cool as well. The bubble tea is good; a bit overpriced considering how much ice you get in one for $3. Honestly, my biggest issue with this place is the service. It's seat yourself, which is OK, but makes it so easy to be ignored. We called ahead for an order and they didn't start making it until we got there. I went to Co for the first time last Tuesday with my friend and sat at the bar to watch an NBA game. I got the "beef pho mandu" appetizer and "bún bò hue" entree. Both were fantastic. The portion size of my entree was huge; it probably could have fed 3 or 4. The bartender Sam was very nice and helpful. She was keen to never let my glass of water get empty. The manager came by to see how our meals were and gave me a detailed answer and flavor profile after I asked him how to best incorporate the included side of red cabbage, bean sprouts, etc. into my dish. He later had to deal with the antics of a crazy pregnant woman who was trying to dine and dash, and he handled it with a sense of politeness and professionalism I would not have been able to muster. He later apologized to us for having to witness her tantrum. I'll definitely be back! Also, a review in the sidebar tells me "Heather M." is "pretty sure the restaurant is not ADA compliant." Welcome to downtown Charleston! Nowhere is. As for her assertion that "the stairs are flaming hot," I'm not sure how that's possible or how one would even be able to draw that conclusion without being barefoot. A glance at her other reviews - and the grammar and language therein - immediately compels me to not give much weight to her opinions anyway. read more

Sometimes the wait staff can make up for the food... not in this case. Coming in from Tampa we were hoping trendy would add a new flavor to some classic meal but we'd highly recommend keeping it traditional vs whatever is going on here. The curry was watered down and the flavor didn't pop at all. My wife and I shared spring rolls, I had to ask them to be removed from our check, no flavor and these should be served with a peanut sauce not the sauce they're using. The Pho, thumbs down, Korean bowl, thumbs down. Lastly, the waitress had to go up and down the steps to get items and didn't seem overly excited to get us sauces that should be already sitting on every table to begin with, sauce (Sriracha)and hoisin sauce. Not sure if the management should put some general stock upstairs or what would help but our kids had to wait 10+ minutes to get sauce and we had to ask twice. No one greeted us in and the waitress did nothing to make us enjoy our experience or make us feel welcome. Lastly the I ordered at mojito and it was far from good, think they left out the simple syrup but at that point we didn't want to keep saying anything to our waitress so I just drank it. They need to bring in an Asian food expert to try all of the dishes and take the feedback to heart or people will be wasting money on overpriced trend. Talking to local shop owners on that strip, they recommend going to chains because these places are tourists traps and they don't go there. 2 stars is honestly too generous here. My family loves going to dinner and if we get an experience, meaning good staff and friendly fun or good food it's a win, this was lacking both and they need to re-evaluate what their trying to accomplish, if the goal is sucking out cash from tourists, mission accomplished. We loved our house-made sodas and our server, Heather, was nice. Unfortunately, the mango spring rolls were made from very under-ripe (crunchy!) mangos and the wrap on it was so tough that I couldn't bite through it and it tasted like plastic.
