I walked into Co with high expectations, having had great meals at the Savannah location. Some of the items were either missing or different and I was pretty bummed. Luke walked over to take the menu when I was ready to walk out and offered to let me customize my dish. I kind of guessed and added things from memory and am going to inquire when I go back to the Sav restaurant but the results were pretty good. A to-go bag was sent out to the bar and kind of sat there and I didn't want to be the guy asking about every bag that is sent out. Luke noticed that I was still there talking with family before walking over and talking with some of the workers near the to-go bag and getting it himself. The other workers had been busy running back and forth themselves. He apologized and added extra condiments that I'd requested earlier. This could have gone in any direction but overall the positive experience was due to great customer service. Very hipster like most of the places in downtown Charleston. The neighborhood is great and the ambiance is very nice. You will find picnic style tables, so you can expect to have neighbors. The food was delicious, but the restaurant was out of a lot of standards. There was no hot tea and no tapioca for the bubble tea and it sounds like this has been the case for a few days. I was craving Vietnamese food like it was going out of style. The restaurant was on a one way street and parking was challenging. Coming up to the restaurant, it looked very dark. I glanced at the menu and notice the prices were very fair and the menu had a rhythm . I couldn't say no. My husband and I went in. The sign said, seat yourself and that's what we did. The place had a modern feel, narrow, but a good amount of seating. It was rather busy. As soon as we sat down, a server came over with water and took our order. We had the beef and kim chi dumplings which was gone before either of us could blink. I would say these are homemade, the dough was perfect sauce was complimentary of the dumplings. Now the entree. I ordered my favorite Beef Pho and my husband ordered the Udon noodles. The pho smelled so good , just like home made. Noodles and beef perfectly cooked. and the Udon was to die for. This was our second time to eat here and basically it was disappointing. We went for happy hour on NYE to prepare for a night of drinking and fun. The first time we came I could not wait to come back. This time the bartender thought it was a good time to train a new person. The new girl actually noticed when we needed something so who was training whom I'm not sure. The bartender doing the training was unfriendly and quite bad at her job. Food was cold, took forever. My experience at CO was exceptional! This was the third time I've eaten there and it was just as good as the first couple of times. The food is authentic Vietnamese and the waiters are knowledgeable on the menu and flavors unique to Vietnamese cooking. I would recommend trying the beef pho! It comes with fresh basil and amazing hoisen (plum) sauce. The service was speedy and the atmosphere was contemporary and relaxing. On my last trip to Charleston we ate here twice... which is saying a lot given the many places to choose from. Salads, spring/summer rolls and gyozas are delish. Their chicken mushroom soup is also pretty satisfying. To top off all the tasty food, they have a full bar with excellent craft cocktails and wine. I suggest trying lots of things and sharing with friends. They have seating upstairs and down. We prefer downstairs as chairs are more comfortable. Upstairs they have benches and long tables (tip: not good if you.are wearing a pencil skirt!). The servers here are all nice; they will take care of you so you have a great time as well as good food and drink. read more

My Vietnamese friend commented that the anise was too strong in the Pho Ba but since then I've found it too weak (as a natural protection to species survival women are too sensitive to changes in flavor)--please spike it back up. Luuuurve this place. Yes, it's a chain (yikes), and yes, it's highly Americanized (so what?) The pho and the caramel pork bahn mi are my faves. I get both every time with other nibbles--some better than others--and drinks (that lychee concoction is tasty and strong!), and I always tell myself that I'll eat one now, have the other for lunch tomorrow. Except that when I get home, the remaining soup or sandwich disappears by midnight. What can I say, I'm weak!!! But with food this good, I don't feel guilty about it. Stopped by at 3:30pm on a holiday Monday for a late lunch. We had called a few times while walking over from the children's museum to see if they were open due to the holiday. Though nobody answered we figured we'd so by just in case since we had some out of town visitors that specifically requested to try Co. When we got there we noticed some people seated and eating, so we were excited to see they were indeed open. As we walked in, one of the wait staff said the kitchen was closed until 4pm (despite the people eating right in front of us), so we decided to have some drinks at the bar and wait for the kitchen to open again. At that point, a man from behind the bar rudely said to the waitress "uggghhh, kitchens not going to open, I'm cooking till 5". Needless to say we weren't going to wait a hour and a half. I'm not sure what was going on, or why they stopped cooking (maybe to change over from lunch to dinner?) But we weren't appreciative of the unwelcoming tone to say the least. read more

Went in for a late lunch so it wasn't very busy. They have an awesome selection of vegan and gluten free dishes, and have them on a separate menu which is awesome! Was in town for the day, wanted some lunch. Walked to CO and so very happy I did! I had the beef and kimchee dumplings wow were they delish! Didn't last but a few minutes- nice balance of flavors. Also had Banh mi sandwich caramel pork; the fillings were very tasty and I ate that in about 5 minutes. Would have liked a little more of the lighter texture in the bread as a usual Banh mi has y'know made with more rice flour maybe? Gives it a lighter texture and just that little bit of a crunch. But as I said the filling was great! Lychee tea was good and refreshing too, wanted Viet iced coffee but alas they were out of the condensed milk I'll return to try other things next time and bring my hubby so we can try more! read more
