The coach girl has been one of our favorites for many years. We had dinner on a Sunday night in their outdoor area. It was absolutely wonderful. Our waiter Alex was attentive and professional. The food was, as usual, absolutely perfect. The New York strip was cooked perfectly as was the Coach Grill filet mignon. The sides were wonderful. Our maple old-fashioned and Coachman's margarita were perfectly crafted. The tables were spaced apart and we were comfortable with the temperature. It was a fantastic end to the week. read more

This place is in trouble. I've been going for years and it's really gone down hill. This is priced like an in town steak house but the service and the lack of professional staff is akin to outback or the 99. Went for dinner and was served low quality food by a indifferent series of waitstaff. They team up so you order from one person who is surprised when the water and bread don't show up while you sit for twenty minutes at an empty table. Then they bring you appetizers ( still no bread or water) asked three people . Main curse was undercooked and tasteless but there was no one to ask to send back to reheat the rubber chicken . I finally got a waiter from another area to get the manager over and he asked me what was wrong. With the food. The place is a huge mess and very pricey. Went here for my wife's birthday. We got there around 5:30 on a Friday and it was pretty dead. That turned around pretty quick, it was completely filled by 6:15ish. I started with their iceberg salad which resembles a wedge salad, my wife had the clams casino. We both had the strip steak with a side of cheesy broccoli and brown rice pilaf. The food was delicious. I had the Coach Grill Sour, which is much like a whiskey sour but it has a Malbec floater, I was skeptical at first, but it was great. Afte bringing salmon when I ordered the scallops they apologized profusely and brought my grilled scallops. They had to be the chewiness scallops I have ever had. I will give them credit for taking my order off the bill because of the delay in getting the right meal to me. The service is great even when we dress like a slob. The table stayed clean. Napkins get refolded. Water stays full. We share a cold shellfish platter. The clams weren't that tasty, just standard affair. The crab meat was pretty good. The shrimp wasn't that tasty either. The lobster was alright. For dinner, I had a petite fillet mignon. IT was a very good cut, practically melted away in my mouth. We shared a Fruit Cobbler for dessert. The crust was yummy and so was the ice cream. We've been going here for years - mainly because it's local. The food can be very good or sometimes not. The only problem with the restaurant is that it's not consistent. It's always been that way as long as we can remember. The wait staff is friendly. If you want to go here, be prepared for either a fabulous meal or having to send something back to the kitchen. Coach Grill used to be one of our favorite spots. They had great food, great service and great staff. Since the reopening after their fire in the spring and now under new management, we were extremely disappointed. To start, we had to leave the restaurant to return home because one member of our party forgot her ID and they would not serve her. Had the rest of the group not been already settled with drinks, we would have just left. Safe to say this group is a lot closer to 50 than to 20, so this was a ridiculous inconvenience. When the food came, the appetizer portion of the calamari was significantly smaller than it had been on all previous visits. Our waitress confirmed that the portion size had been reduced. The shrimp cocktail portion size was also reduced from 5 shrimp to 4 and the shrimp themselves were smaller. The restaurant was empty when we got there and empty throughout our meal. For a place that used to have to park guests across the street in the bank lot, we were able to find spaces right in front of the door, twice. The place still smells like smoke from the fire. Apparently many of the old staff have left and gone to Flank, the new steakhouse in Waltham. We won't be going back. 2 star rating earned for the great service from our server, Liz. She was a fantastic bright spot during an otherwise disappointing evening. read more

Just left Coach after eating at a high top in the bar. I can't believe how bad it's gotten. This used to be our favorite place, but that finally might be my last trip there. (Though I've said that before.) steak was decent, not great. Clam chowder was inedible for my son. Mashed potatoes were bad. My daughters Coach salad with shrimp was excellent, along with her brussel sprouts. The service was bad on a whole different level. Slow, no refills on water/soda without literally having to stop her. Didn't pack up the leftover Brussel sprouts etc because we couldn't stop her flying by to drop off and pick up the check. Where to start.... 1) Seated next to a leaking roof (because we were young and they thought we wouldn't complain). 2) The bread was excellent so we were hopeful. 3) The portions were huge but tasteless- since when is it ok to serve a $30 bland steak and uncooked asparagus? 4) The chocolate cake was horrendous and could be compared to Entenmann's. 5) There was no parking because of the snow. 6) The only redeeming factor is that the waitstaff was nice. 7) Stay home, order a pizza and watch a movie. I have experienced great food and service from many of the back bay restaurant company's, we felt as ease to make our first trip to the burbs and give this place a try. We came here with our families to celebrate a monumental birthday with reservations. Once entered, we were greeted by the hostess whom was very nice and sat us quickly. We noticed that the decor is very similar to may of their other BBR establishments. If Papa Razzi-Wellesley married Abe and Louie's and had a kid...it would be Coach Grill! We shared the grilled calamari which would of been amazing if the food wasn't so burnt. The dish was char and well over done. The calamari tasted like well seasoned rubber bands. :( We would have let our server know but sadly "Shannan" wasn't around all night until our bill came. Overall the food was decent but service really dampened our experience and celebration. We all agreed that we would think twice about coming back. read more

Good steak house food in pleasant relaxed atmosphere. The steaks are on par with Abe and Louie's and not quite up to the Capital Grille. It's much less pretentious that the Grille and a much better value. (Being at least a little bit pretentious seems to be part of the "steak house" definition.) As for the dress - this is another restaurant where my husband I routinely show up more than a bit under dressed. We've always had good service, and although they always seat us in the same "corner" it is a really nice corner. If under dressing really is the trick to sitting in cozy corner by the fireplace then I recommend jeans and tee shirt. read more

I was really excited to try brunch here. My husband had a yummy lobster bisque and we were served delicious warm cinnamon rolls but my main course was such a disappointment. I ordered blueberry pancakes and they were dry and inedible. I was so sad :( my husband has the eggs Benedict over steak which he did love. I don't know if I'd go back to try something else or not. As someone in the restaurant industry I can understand and accept that restaurants have bad nights and likewise service can be slacking, but for what you pay here you expect better. I went with my family for a birthday dinner. The host had no personality and hardly greeted us. The server was completely overwhelmed and it took 30 minutes just to get our waters. We spent 2 and a half hours here because service was so horribly slow. Listening to the conversations around us made us uncomfortable because of the stuck up clientele. The server had a similar snobby attitude but definitely didn't deserve to. A completely overpriced and overrated place for bland food and terrible service. Needless to say we won't be back. I came here purely by accident looking for my favorite bagel shop, which has since become a bank. It was brunch time and I had my buddy along, and they seemed to be open, so we checked it out. As soon as we entered, an army of crisp white-shirted servers descended upon us, ushered us to a table, served us excellent coffee, and brought us a basket with an assortment of tiny breakfast breads. The eggs Benedict were on, and service was flawless. Looking around, you could see that this place is a favorite of the older set, the steak house crowd. In fact, I think I saw your grandma two tables over with her bridge club. All in all, it's worth the $3-4 bump in entree cost and the fifteen minute drive outside of 95 to sit in a nice big open room and not have to stand in line to do it. I came here with a party of 20+. We were in their large room on the left side of the building. It was very spacious, comfortable, and warm. During the crazy storm in MA we all enjoyed staying inside, drinking wonderful cocktails and wine, eating great food. I had the chicken, others had the steak, while a few had the swordfish. Everyone was so happy to be indoors and enjoying fine food. All I heard was mmm, ooooh, wow! Their wine this is extensive. Great place for a first date. I live in CA, so its nice to see a place in Boston that reminds me of a resturant back home. Its a must visit. I did however feel under dressed. Its a little more upscale then what I was wearing. But after three days of crazy long business meetings I didnt care if I was in my PJ's, I was so exhausted. So a heads up, dress up, and look cute. Its a classy place. But regardless, the folks that worked there treated me with respect and were fantastic. they were on it. The service was quick, and I never had to ask for a refil or for more bread. I FINALLY was able to get a reservation at this long time restaurant in Wayland. I've been wanting to go here for sometime now, but you just can't get in as they are always busy. The service was good not 5 star as advertised. They use very young 15-16 year old kids as bus staff that really are not polished and wear loose none fitting uniforms. The waitress was nice, not great. I never once was asked for a refill of my water. The food was good and the prices fair but a little high. The prime rib looked good but again pricey. I guess when you have that much business why lower prices. Will I return...HMMM maybe.....I have no problem spending 100-200 for a dinner, I would just expect 5 star service as advertised and a table to be ready at the time of my reservation instead of waiting extra 15 min. I also think they really need some valet parking..it's impossible to find a spot anywhere and when it's cold and snowy it's nice to valet. read more

My in-laws have been going to what was once the Red Coach Grill, then something else I don't quite remember, now just the Coach Grill. My family and I dine there with my mother-in-law often and it is our favorite restaurant. The meals are exquisite and the room comfortable. The staff bends over backwards to make sure your visit is top notch. My favorite meal has to be the prime rib hash served for Sunday brunch but the salmon is perfectly cooked for those with an eye on their waistline. My mother-in-law usually gets a steak ordered medium rare and it always comes a perfect medium rare. At dessert, my wife and her mother always debate on whether to get the chocolate chip cookies and chocolate sauce, the creme brulee, or the profiteroles. It's hard to believe the review from Diana L. The Coach has always been a terrific place to go. I highly recommend it. read more

My mother and I love this place. The atmosphere in the bar area is very cozy. The steaks are always so good and they have quite a few sides to choose from to. I have never been disappointed with the food here. Two minor things they could change would be to offer different size wine glasses (the one size they have is so big) and to play some music. Went for a birthday dinner on Friday night. The manager squeezed us in for reservatiosn which we appreciated... However, we had reservations for 7:15, our waitress came and gave us water proptly but then disappeared and did not take our order til 830!! we were STARVING and she kept dodging us.. very odd... then our food did not come out until 9:20pm.. I was staring at my watch and our entire party was STARVING ( there was only 6 of us... no excuse for 2 hours after being seated to finally get served)... my tuna was good, but my sides were both bone cold and lacked any effort on the presentation.. everyone else said their food was cold and my friend's salmon was dry. for the price you pay you expect much better.... read more

We arrived early and they brought us right in. Okay, I said. Even though we couldn't find parking, not a bad start. Our waitress was wonderful but tried to rush us. We LOVE taking our time. After all, dining out should be an experience not chew and screw. So we had to order the entire meal and not our appetizers first. I always get oysters and these weren't too bad. P.E.I.s. I ordered the Rib Eye special. I was kinda hungry and thought a nice big medium rare steak would be the ticket. It was absolutely horrible. Overdone and so grizzly I thought I could use it for an ACL replacement. Dessert wasn't much better. Blueberry pie that tasted like there was rice in the pie. Don't waste your time. If their service was better, I would've definitely bumped this to four (or even five!) stars. Went there for the boyfriend's birthday in late May - the night before our flight to Mexico, so we went in for our 7PM dinner. The ambiance was that of a steak house - dark wood, dark leather... I appreciated the smells when we first walked in. My mouth was WATERING. We both very much appreciate a great steak, so we were very excited. We started with an appetizer of calamari - perfectly crispy and delicious, with hints of banana peppers. YUM! I loved the slight spiciness. Our steaks were cooked PERFECTLY - serious, carnivore HEAVEN. The steaks here were actually better than the steaks I had at the Capital Grille. And the side of roasted garlic mashed potatoes, and asparagus was YUM-O. I had put on my reservation notes that I wanted a special dessert plate for the boyfriend's birthday, and I was expecting a cute little plate with some chocolate writing or something. They brought out our dessert (warm chocolate cookies with warm chocolate dipping sauce - oh my GOD) with a candle for him. Which was sweet, but no chocolate writing? Really? Come on - it just showed little effort, so I was really disappointed. So the food was amazing. Great. Fantastic. We both really enjoyed our meals. But the most annoying part? We were IGNORED for most of our meal. Which was annoying. Especially when I needed my water glass refilled. Or when we wanted another glass of wine. Or heck, when we wanted to order our meal (we started the night getting ignored, how fabulous)! Or our dessert, and we were left there with our plates cleared and just sitting there like lame ducks. Uh yeah... our dinner lasted 3 hours. WHEN IT DIDN'T NEED TO BE - most of it was spent waiting for someone to take our order or give us our check! And we had to be up in five hours to make our flight! I wasn't happy. And it takes a lot to really piss me off at a restaurant. Especially when my belly was full of awesome meat. I love that this place is minutes from my parent's house. I go and hangout at the bar, enjoy an ice cold martini and a few appetizers. first of all, for less than $10 you get almost 2.5 martinis. They pour you your first glass and put the reserve in a vial that sits in ice. Wows, they mean business here. Great steakhouse menu selections, attentive and friendly bar tenders. We dined here a few weeks ago and had high expectations based on word of mouth. The decor is very formal and old fashioned. There is some beautiful woodwork, but it's chipped in places and probably hasn't had a good polish in a while. That isn't to say that the restaurant wasn't clean, it was. I was also under the impression that the dress code was somewhere between dressy and business casual, so I was surprised to see people in jeans and one family practically in sweats. It kind of ruined the ambiance and looked out of place with the setting. The service was good. It was fairly busy, but we had made reservations. We arrived early, but were seated immediately. Our waitress, Melissa, was very knowledgeable about menu items, patient, attentive, and friendly. No complaints at all about the service. Melissa was fantastic. The wine list is impressive and wine lovers will be more than pleased with the selection. Sides are served a la carte and family style so sharing is easy. I thought the prices were a little steep for the main dishes. We had the crab cakes as an appetizer and they were absolutely fresh and amazing. I highly recommend them. For our main course we had prime rib, shrimp, and a petite filet. The petite filet was good, but not mind blowing. I understand the shrimp was excellent and that the prime rib was a little on the disappointing side. For sides we had the lobster risotto, broccoli, mushrooms, and creamed spinach. The risotto was fabulous and the lobster was generous and prepared well, the garlic broccoli was good, the mushrooms were good, and the creamed spinach was nothing special. They were generous portions. If you order drinks, appetizers, and dinner with sides it will run you about $80 per person once you factor in the gratuity. All said and done, I've had better and expected more. For a special occasion this is a nice option. read more

It is what it is. I've been for drinks in the bar area a few times, and it's pretty good for that. I didn't feel like it was stuffy, anyway. I've only been for a meal a few times, and it was good. My options were limited since I don't eat meat or fish, but I did eat SOMEthing. My parents like it a lot. The service was good, but I remember being disappointed in the wine list. It has a dark, slightly mysterious kind of feel. I think they want it to be romantic or three-martini-business-lunch or something. Tried out The Coach Grille in Wayland. We went on an off night, so seating wasn't a problem. The atmosphere inside is very upscale and very, very nice. We started with a shrimp cocktail, which included 5 "jumbo" ice cold shrimp, with super spicy and hot cocktail sauce. Just the way I like it!!! Well worth $ 13.00. The salads were ice cold and fresh, and the salad dressing on the salads was homemade, very good. Always love a restaurant that shy's away from that premade bottled stuff. My husband got the Boneless Regular Cut Prime Rib, which he said was very good, but smaller than he was expecting. He had the Garlic and Shallot mashed potatoes, he said were very good. I got the New York Sirloin Strip which was very good, but done a tad more than the medium I asked for. I had the Classic Mashed potatoes, which were also very good. The waiter's there wear sport coats, and your dinner is wheeled out on rolling carts. When you're dinner is done, the waiter comes around and scrapes the crumbs off of the table, before your dessert course. All in all, and excellent dining experience. read more

We were out apple picking and hardly dressed for a late Sunday brunch but we stubled in, dirt and all. What we got was fantastic service across the board including accomodating seating changes. Our initial uncomfortableness (self induced by being underdressed with clumps of mud still clinging to our jeans), was quickly put to ease by the staff. The food choices and the food itself were outstanding. My The prime rib lasted until dinner the next night at home and it was still tastier than most other steak houses. Bloody mary's were good but could have used some more zest. Calamari also a big winner and of course the obligatory creamed spinach was pretty good. I would classify this as a hidden gem - of course everyone I spoke to about this place seems to always known about this place. I guess it is a bit off the path - I'm sure the locals like it that way. We decided to go for our anniversary on a weeknight and the place was exactly as advertised. I had a Porterhouse which was very nice but the garlic mashed potatoes were somewhat bland. My wife had some steak tips with veggies and sweet potatoes that she liked (but didn't love) and we finished the meal off with some unremarkable cookies served with delicious melted chocolate. My husband and I went here recently for dinner. We LOVE sitting at the bar, so we were so excited when 2 seats were available. The bartenders could not have been any nicer. Arthur, Gary & Pete were attentive, thoughtful and had great suggestions both with the wine we chose (Stag's Leap amazing) and the food we ate, Lamb Chops and Filet Mignon. These guys don't fool around, they are there to serve you the best possible drinks and food. They take their job seriously, yet still have time to make you feel like you're the only guest in the place! We recently moved to the area and we were looking for a great steakhouse/bar. After reading the reviews from after the reopening, I was concerned about trying this restaurant again. However, we had a wonderful time. The four of us had made reservations for the Friday night following Thanksgiving at 7pm to celebrate my Dad's birthday. We were promptly shown to a table in a quieter area of the restaurant. The bread and butter to start was soft and delicious. And the restaurant did NOT smell smoky as previous reviews have indicated. The waiter (James?) was polite, friendly, and not too obtrusive (he never interrupted the conversation but we never felt like we had to look for him to order something). When he described the specials to us, he was clearly very knowledgeable about the food. He sold me on the lamb shank, which I do not regret. The lamb was so tender, I didn't have to use a knife, and the risotto that came with it was addictive. His advice on wine was spot-on based on what I was looking for, and I enjoyed a lovely Cabernet. For dessert, since it was Dad's birthday, the waiter brought out an extra dessert in addition to what we had ordered, which was thoughtful and appreciated. The best dessert, we agreed was the brioche bread pudding. Once we started rolling ourselves out the door, I must have dropped a glove because one of the hostesses ran up to me with a glove I had dropped a few seconds ago. Steaks are topflight, lamb shank (when have you seen that elsewhere?), seafood, all excellent and prepared with care and attention. Kevin was a great and witty waiter. Some well-priced superior red wines too. Most impressive overall, including mixed drinks and desserts. It's kind of damning to say how surprising it was, plate by plate and level by level, but it was, truly surprisingly excellent, and I shan't hesitate to return. ooh, forgot to emphasize, by serious skill in the kitchen I also mean something seemingly minor: NOT doing what every other place does, which is oversalting. We dined here on a Wednesday evening and were surprised the restaurant was packed. The hostess seated us IMMEDIATELY upon arrival, which was nice. I hate having a reservation only being forced to wait because of inept staff, or even worse having it as a ploy to direct patrons to the bar of for a $12 martini. The atmosphere was cool and modern. I am a stickler for cleanliness and the Coach was spic and span. Our young waitress started out nervous forgetting or drink orders, but she warmed up and was very good. The menu as ample and priced fair for this classy restaurant. I order the Chilean sea bass, which was prepared perfectly. My partner got the stuffed shrimp and raved about it. The wine selection and choice of other menu items were both good. Dinner was served promptly, and the only complaint was the fish could have been a bit hotter. Otherwise, everything was great. The sourdough bread was to die for. The whole meal came in at a bit under $100 with 2 glasses of wine and no desert. No complaints. I am already looking forward to my next visit. read more
