Good standard Chinese if you are I Evergreen, Co. My mom and I eat here on occasion and I am never disappointed.

Don't expect a warm welcome, or even a polite one. They seem to revel in being curt, no matter how often you visit. Food is reasonable but overpriced. Our kid likes it, otherwise we'd probably not go. read more

o.k. for real some one needs to make a movie about this place. these are the most adorable sisters ever. when my joel told me that we were going to evergreen for a unique dinning experience i never imagined it would be this! the food was great, the price was cheeap the restaurant was cute and the way the girls haggled joel was priceless! evergreen is my favorite place on earth so go up there on a sunday run around and go to the coal mine dragon (how can you not love that name?!) eat some crab won tons and call it a sunday well spent. read more

I have lived in Evergreen for 32 years and Coal Mine has been there as long as I can remember. I never leave reviews but after seeing so many negative views from out of town, out of state people I thought I should. 1. There is another Chinese place in Evergreen, the Phoenix, Coal Mine is waaayyyy better 2. I have been going there for as long as I can remember I have NEVER had a bad meal. 3. I will agree that the sisters can be surly, but I think after being in the restaurant business that long anyone would be. I think it ads to the ambiance :) Best hot and sour I have ever had, best cashew chicken, best Shrimp with lobster sauce, best beef & broccoli. My tea is ALWAYS hot, I think the rice taste like rice and I LOVE THIS PLACE!!! I wish my body would allow me to eat here every day without gaining a million lbs because I over eat the delicious food every time. read more

Way too slow on service, surly waitress. Disappointing.

Family run traditional Americanized Cantonese style. Some review said this is the best Chinese restaraunt in Evergreen. It is the only one as far as I can find. The rice served with each dish is poor quality. And the side fried rice is not fried. It is cooked brown rice. BarbQue pork lunch was a good value but the egg rolls are horrible. Pay extra and get the Shanghai roll with better skin. Veggies served in dishes are good and fresh! There are 2 other places in the shopping are there by Evergreen Lake. read more

The food here used to be alright but now it is awful. Do not waste your time going here. I have been so many times and it disappoints each time. Food is dry and boring and service is poor and snotty. If you are looking for good Chinese in evergreen, try Phoenix Chinese. It is amazing and family owned. read more

Delicious as always. Coal mine Dragon is our regular carry out Chinese restaurant. Today we had time to relax in the dining room there and watch the snow fall over evergreen lake. Great food, fabulous view, and the staff is top-notch. Worth the trip! read more

A little pricey for Chinese food. I've ordered take out twice from here now. My shrimp fried rice was AMAZING, it seriously was probably up there on best fried rice I've had with one small complaint, I hate when the tails are still on the shrimp and you have to pull it off yourself. The other thing I had another time was the shrimp lo mien, it was pretty good, I've had better lo mien. (same complaint about the tails of the shrimp) I am knocking off another star for the fact the menu doesn't have descriptions, so the other person who ordered with me ordered orange chicken and it was not the traditional breaded deep fried orange chicken, that pretty much everywhere else makes it like. So it wasn't at all what he wanted and he didn't end up eating his dinner. So menu descriptions would be helpful especially if deviates from 'traditional" Also my egg rolls were beyond terrible. Small and dry and chewy and flavorless. (edit stand corrected the menu does describe the orange chicken - just wish it was the traditional breaded deep fried kind) Overall I feel like their menu is a little weird. I wish they had a salad and some delicious ginger/sesame dressing. And I also feel like their portions are small for what you are paying. read more

Being the only Asian to be writing a review about this place, I feel like I have a bit more weight than the other yelpers. Every now and then I stop in here for an easy dinner night (takeout), but not often because rarely have I enjoyed the meals from here. However tonight, I decided to give it another go and stopped in for some sesame chicken to take home. It was inedible... the chicken seemed to be all dark meat, was way over cooked and too tough to chew. Also the sauce had an odd taste to it (the person I was sharing it with also noticed this). We each ate a couple of pieces and could eat no more. Also, $13 seems a little steep for what you get. And finally, the customer service is usually lacking as well - very impersonal. Consistantly good food and great service. They treat you like family and it shows in the food they serve. They do a unique twist to Orange Chicken which is very tasty. Reasonable prices make this place even better! read more

I remember coming to the Coal Mine Dragon with my uncle at a very young age, and being impressed with the Pu Pu Platter. Many years later, it's still the best Chinese food in Evergreen. AND it looks out over the lake. Just perfect. read more

I have been here off and on over the last 6 years. I do not recommend it. The service and attitude is always poor and unfriendly, the place is not very clean, and the food is very average mediocre Chinese. I am used to excellent Chinese food, and this is not! Basically the only reason I will go there now is to get the sizzling rice soup (one of my favorites) that isn't on the menu of my nearby favorite places. read more

Standard fare, good service, typical decor. There is nothing special about this place, but the food was also quite edible. I did enjoy the hot tea we were greated with upon sitting down, that was a nice and unexpected additional service that did not show up on our tab. I would eat here again, but only if the Thai place (bergan park) shuts down first. This is the kind of place I go when I'm looking for that classic American style Chinese food. Kung Pao Chicken, Moo Shu Pork, Sesame Chicken, and the Fried Rice are all delicious. I mostly do take out but occasionally I'll eat there. They have a nice dining area and pleasant decor. I can see why some people might find the staff unwelcoming, but in my experience a lack of cordiality is a common theme among Chinese restaurants across America and I would put this place above most on that front. read more

We ordered takeout several times and really liked the food. Then we ate in a couple times and again enjoyed the food. So when friends of our were visiting from out of state, we took them there for dinner. The waitress was sullen and downright rude. She barely spoke to us and seemed angry when we asked questions about the menu. When my husband asked her if she was having a bad day, she snapped back angrily at him. We decided maybe something terrible had happened that day so we gave her the benefit of the doubt. We took our friends back again the next week wanting them to have a good experience. We got the other waitress that time and she was equally, if not more, angry and sullen. When I asked for my meal to be "extra hot and spicy" she snapped, "It's hot already." She treated us terribly throughout our order and never returned after serving the food. My husband went up twice to the front desk to ask for things that we needed. Two of us got boxes for our leftover food and there was only one scoop of rice left on the serving plate. We asked for some more rice to take home with the leftovers and they charged us $2.50 for it. We love Chinese food, but we will never go back to that restaurant. Reading other reviews it is obvious we are not the only ones who have been treated that way. People in a service industry should know better how to treat customers. We need a good Chinese restaurant in Evergreen. read more

Since i was a little kid, Coal Mine Dragon was a famous place for my family, Evergreen people might remember the Canfield-Jones family lol...we loved the place and when it moved to a new location on Upper Bear was were there the day the store opened. I went in for lunch last week on a Sunday afternoon, by myself. The ladies looked at me like there was something wrong with me, told me to sit where I wanted. After another set of diners was seated, their water and tea brought to them, I was finally brought a menu. I knew what i wanted and tried to order, AT THE SAME TIME that a very LARGE party entered. Obviously, they saw more $$$ over there than at my table and when I asked if I could place my order, she told me, "just a minute". She then went over to the large table and started tending to them. Best Chinese food restaurant around. Extremely good hot and sour soup, and they definitely use a lot of vegetables compared to some more generic places. The staff does sometimes mock customers - but only when they really deserve it, and it's pretty entertaining! I wish this strip of businesses would hire a parking lot enforcer. There's always "no lake parking" signs up, but it's frustrating constantly seeing people ignore the signs and walking over to the lake. There is a number of a tow truck company on some of the no parking signs around but we haven't tried reporting anyone - yet! read more

I've been going to Coal Mine Dragon for years now and have never received even courteous service. I usually call ahead and get my orders to go and they are never ready when they say they will be. Always takes 10-15 min longer than told over the phone (even when told it will take 30 min). Tonight was once again a disappointment when they let "Tom" who evidently is a regular and big spender cut in front of me to pick up his order even though mine was ready setting there on counter. They almost let Tom cut in front of the guy ahead me until the guy demanded he was first. When it happened to me they all said, "we didn't see you" even though I had been standing behind the guy in front of me for 10 min. Even though I complained they still let Tom go first. She blamed Tom for cutting and he blamed her for allowing him. As a business owner I would never let that happen in my store. And shame on Tom for cutting in front of me knowing I was there first. I know this is a petty complaint but things like this happen almost every time I go. I wouldn't patron their business but their General Tso is the best in Evergreen. Just don't expect decent service and god forbid they ever give you a smile. read more

I wish I could give them 0 stars! WORST PLACE EVER!! PLEASE BE WARNED. My family last night placed an order with the Coal Mine Dragon for about 6 people, and since this place is pricey. We paid almost $100 for our order and had a LOT of food. When my Mother-in-law went to pick up the food the woman at the counter read back the order, note we had ordered VEGETABLE lo mien. Which is what she did read back to us, but what were in the boxes was not our order. So, forgive us for not checking all 10 boxes of food to ensure accuracy of each one. Usually you can trust a well-established company to make sure large orders are accurate. Well, turns out we were given pork or beef lo mien instead. This specific vegetable order was for my younger brother who is a vegetarian and cannot eat a meal that contains meat in it. So we called them up and said, instead of vegetable lo mien we got beef lo mien, they asked us to come back down there and they would get us vegetable lo mien. So while the rest of our order gets cold after getting home and realizing the error, we drive back to the restaurant to get our vegetable lo mien for our veggie eating brother. Once we got there the woman was SO RUDE to us and demanded we paid for it. I'm sorry, but usually if an order is messed up and you have to come back to get it the veg. lo mien would be free. We had already paid for veg. lo mien and did not receive it. The woman told my Mother-in-law that she was a liar and she gave us the veg. lo mien. The woman across the counter was yelling at us in her own store saying how we were wrong and are lying and she read back the order to us, so therefore, whats in the boxes are exactly what she's reading on the order. Uhm? No. We refused to pay for it and be treated with such abuse and left. Maybe they are the only Chinese restaurant in Evergreen which is why they are still there, but they are HORRIBLE and treat their customers like shit. My family will never eat there again, hopefully this review will alarm any potential customers as well. read more

Have been going to Coal Mine Dragon since they opened many years ago, Not anymore. The server is so rude and unfriendly. She and husband own the place so you would think some effort would be put forward for friendly service. We stopped by Coal Mine Dragon for a dinner on a Monday night. The restaurant was half full. We ordered three dishes, Chicken Lo Mein, Mo Shoo Shrimp and Yu Sho Three Meats. All three were excellent. Service was very good, we were waited on in a timely manner and got our food in less than 10 minutes. We had one Mo Shoo pancake left over and it was very good the next day. read more
