Coast Restaurant is celebrating it's 20th anniversary with a special menu for which every item is only $20 each, but it's only available until Oct.20th! That's only about 2 days from now! Bento Taster Miso Sablefish Tableside Buttered Clam & Squid Ink Vongole Warm Banana & Coconut Butter Cake Bento Taster was so beautifully presented and we thought the ahi tuna sashimi was the most incredible of all the bites that came in this Bento. Sablefish is always a favourite of ours and this one was no exception to the rule as it was delightfully soft and tender, with a wonderfully flavorful broth that accompanied it. Butter Clam & Squid Ink Vongole was by far the star of the show. Our server torched a pecorino cheese wheel in front of us and then tossed the pasta into the torched wheel to coat it with the pecorino cheese. It was quite a sight to behold and I've never had any other dish like this. The pasta was wonderfully buttery; the cheese which coated the pasta was a good amount, and not overpowering.  Portions were on the smaller side, but for a place like Coast Restaurant $20 was a fair price to pay for each dish. Ordering several dishes to share is definitely recommended. While chewing on my Vongole pasta, I bit into something hard several times. I wasn't sure if it was a piece of clam shell or perhaps some bit of sand that hadn't been washed out thoroughly from the clams, but I definitely bit into something hard. Our server was very apologetic and at the end of the evening offered to bring us a complimentary Butter Cake dessert as he felt bad about the mishap with my pasta. We were on a schedule and didn't have time to sit in the restaurant any longer so he had it packed for us to go. I don't know if this cake was the same size as it would have been if we'd had it in the restaurant or if they gave us an extra large portion as compensation for our vongole pasta but it was an extremely generous amount that we were given. When we got home we warmed up the Butter Cake in the microwave and shared it with our daughter. The Butter Cake came with a strawberry and a small container of Creme Anglaise to pour on top. Oh wow! My favourite part of the meal! The cake really was so soft and buttery, and I loved the harmonious blend of banana and coconut flavors. After having sat down, we asked each other....."why is this place so empty and at Happy Hour?!".....now I know why. Here it is.... The Caesar is one of my favourite drinks, and I was craving it today for Happy Hour. Let me ask you something.....when you go for Happy Hour do you expect to get a proper drink at a discounted price, because you're giving them your business at an off time? Or, do you expect to get a half/ass drink because you're paying less? Which one? The Caesar I was served was a disgrace to all Caesars in Canada and all Bloody Mary's in the USA. It was watery, in a tiny glass with 90% ice and maybe....maybe a drop of cheap vodka with a tiny olive and an anorexic on the brink of death string bean screaming desperation.....and I'm being generous. (see pic.) The Truffle fries were ok and the Oysters at $1.50 were good. Even though the place was nearly empty, our server Kyle seemed like he was recovering from a hangover....slow, distracted, nonchalant with minimal effort. Final day of our visit in Vancouver, we decided to have dinner at Coast Vancouver. Since Vancouver is well known for seafood and Japanese food, we had the seafood tower. At $225, it is the biggest seafood tower out of all. We don't really like the oysters, but we sub with tiger prawns. The tower comes with 3 levels. The top one is the sashimi and rolls, middle level is the whole lobster and some chop seafood salad, bottom layer is the prawns, clams, mussels and scallop sashimi. All very fresh and huge portion. Happy Hour is from 2:30-5:30 and has a great selection! I went here without reservations for 2 people on a Sunday afternoon and was able to be seated right away. They have a great variety for Happy Hour. My faves were the crab dip, wagyu beef carpaccio, 1/2lb mussels in red curry and the torched salmon oshi. We also ordered some oysters for 1.50 each. Such a deal. Everything we ordered off the happy hour menu tasted great and fresh. The mini lobster and prawn roll was okay, lacking in seasoning. They also offer a variety of drinks. The soup had lots of seafood. A little bland, could use some salt. *Seafood Caesar Salad For Two: I expected more from Coast on this salad. The dressing lacked the sharpness of garlic and anchovy that is distinctive of Caesar dressing. It tasted like a store bought bottled dressing. *Surf N' Turf Platter for Two: Lobster Thermidor and grilled Striploin instead of Lobster & Crab paella was the recommendation of our waiter. We had our steak medium and it was the toughest ever. Bland, dry and tough enough for us to complain. Chef was very kind to make it up for us with another piece but a strip loin is a strip loin - connective tissues, lacks marbling. *Warm Banana & Coconut Butter Cake @ Crème Brûlée: these two desserts were the star of the night. Didn't think the inside would be as beautiful as it was when we drove by to park. I love seafood and so this is the place my girlfriend made reservations for dinner for our girls night out in Vancouver. We had reservations but we're running a little late due to the rain and traffic and we were extremely grateful that we were able to push our reservations out a bit. We were welcomed by the hostess and thankful they had coat check for our rain filled jackets! we were seated upstairs and had this wonderful view of the restaurant! Our server was pleasant and patient as we went through the menu to decide what we wanted and checked in on us frequently. We had a bottle of white wine from New Zealand (can't remember the name for the life of me). Shared the delicious sushi as our app and i had the linguini for dinner. We got the Oysters, which were fantastic. Other than that, food was kind of lacking. Nigiri had far too much wasabi in each roll, making it a bit tough to eat and completely masking the taste of the fish. Halibut was overly salty but cooked well. Veggies that came with the halibut were mediocre, nothing special. Service was very slow. We were alone on the top floor of the restaurant and the rest of the place was slow, on a tuesday night. I have been all over the world and this is one of the best for the "ambience" and staff interactions I have experienced. From one of the owners coming to our table and talking to us, to the bartender who was also our server, we had a great time interacting and experiencing the afternoon. Thank you for making our end of travel day (we just flew in from northern, MN) a wonderful experience. Now on to the food, the "Happy Hour" menu was the ticket that got us in the door. We will be return for the value that menu had and the taste of the food. I do not take pictures of my food, it is just me being anti cell phone while I am eating. We had the calamari strips that were lightly seasoned and no heavy batter. YUMMMM Not "soggy" like some can be. Clam chowder nice, creamy smooth with unique (no not a strange type of unique) flavor like a lite Truffle oil flavor. The lobster prawn roll sandwich (we saw a lot of them being served) was excellent! and believe me I have had many just SO-SO- Lobster rolls in my life. This was worth "writing home" about, a must try for seafood lovers! Caesar salad was crisp and a wonderful flavor to the dressing. I find on late Sunday afternoon the greens at a lot of restaurants get "tired" at the end of a weekend and this was not the case at all. Then for what I thought was unique and great tasting/texture was the Japanese wrap tempura cod. You have to try this...a double Yummy! I have spent over 9 months of my life working in Japan and this was a great experience to have outside of Japan. Just do not overlook the whole experience as you sit there and consume your food. We had a very good spot watching the bar area. From the coat check, to the walking out the door we had a wonderful time and are returning while here this week. Went to the Coast restaurant when we first arrived in Vancouver. Decided to just try a bunch of appetizers. We ordered the grilled octopus, the sweet chili prawns, the Dungeness crab cakes, the crispy calamari and a Caesar salad. All the food was very good and a lot of it was on the happy hour menu. One of the bartenders (Ryan) had an absolute meltdown on Saturday in front of my husband and I as we were trying to enjoy happy hour at the bar. He was reluctant to make a requested drink and told the server that if the guest is unhappy with that, they should tell them to f off. He also had an attitude with numerous servers which just made our whole experience extremely uncomfortable. I was truly surprised none of the staff told him to calm down as several other guests at the bar were watching this meltdown. On top of that, we called ahead of time and were told there was a 30-minute wait for the patio.. we arrived 10 minutes later and were told it was at least an hour wait and that if we wanted to enjoy the happy hour it could only be done from inside. 4 of the oysters also had shells and they were room temperature rather than chilled. Afterwards, I saw a thread on TikTok talking about how numerous people have gotten food poisoning from the oysters here so I don't recommend getting those. All around awful experience and I will definitely be avoiding it. **** Also, coast keeps removing my Google review - a very professional approach to something they could have used to improve staff behaviour and customer experience. read more

Went to Coast for my birthday dinner as they had a higher rating compared to all the Glowbal Restaurants. ~ Coast Dinner Set $59.95 - Clam Chowder - Beef Tenderloin - Creme Brulee Miso Sablefish $43.95 ~ Clam Chowder was very good with a rich flavour and chunky fillings. There's clams with every bite! Miso Sablefish was definitely the highlight of the whole meal. The tender fish was cooked perfectly paired with the rich miso making it really satisfying! Beef Tenderloin was very disappointing. The first time it came out burnt, so you only taste the charcoal. So we asked them to remake it. The second time it was a little better. but it was still a little over cooked, not the medium-rare that we wanted. We are quite picky with our steak, and the quality was just not there. Crème Brulée can never go wrong and it was very tasty! We were too full to finish it all though and this one they weren't able to pack to go. read more

Well anyplace that serves Japanese Wagyu Ribeye at $23 CANADIAN Dollars (approximately $18.50 USD) per ounce had better be GREAT not average. Coast did not disappoint! The Oysters were fresh -- really fresh -- as if they had been dug up on the beach we were looking at as we dined! The cocktails were magnificent, especially the Cosmic Ruby made with lemongrass infused vodka Cointreau cranberry & ginger purée and lime. To be clear, I'm not a sushi guy, but this place scored home run after home run -- and that included the sushi! This restaurant is magical! My daughter and I came from California to visit Vancouver for a few days. We chose to meet a couple of friends there. Our dinner lasted almost 4 hours of amazing conversation, great service, delicious food: Gnocchi, Cod, Ceviche was our order. We chose pre fixed menu was great! Located in the heart of downtown Vancouver, this restaurant serves menu of West Coast cuisine. They are participating in the ongoing Dine Out Vancouver Festival. My overall dining experience was pleasant. Our server was very attentive and able to accommodate our requests. In Addition to the dineout menu, we also ordered a dozen of Oysters. Our server was very helpful as well. We requested a Chocolate Verrine from Black and Blue, and she was able to get it for us (of course with an additional charges). For the dineout menu, the highlight was the Appetizer, both of Coast Clam Chowder and Oyster Kilpatric were very tasty. For the entrees, I recommend the Striploin & Torched Crab Hollandaise, the Crab Hollandaise complements red wine gastrique well, and the meat was very juicy and tender. We've been on an eating tour of places in Vancouver that have a seafood tower ever since I learned the French spouse despite being in North American for 20 plus years had no idea what that was. This was the third seafood tower we've been to (we are at six now I think) and this has been the worst one so far. Not to saw it was all bad but it wasn't as good as the other ones we've had. The biggest issue was all the cooked seafood in the tower was overcooked. Serving seafood like this really the only thing you have to do is just have the seafood perfectly prepared and it really shows when it's not. We had the $125 tower with oysters, tiger prawns, scallop ceviche, ahi tuna poke, 1lb atlantic lobster, mussels, clams, dungeness crab. We also got Smoked Salmon Flatbread which was too thick and disappointing as well. We were seated outside and while it was much better noise wise than the inside, there were a pack of drunk guys who had been at the resturant earlier hanging out outside that were catcalling women walking as well as people who had been in the restaurant. It was disturbing and the restaurant staff did nothing to stop them or to tell them to move along. The servers did seem overwelmed by the full restaurant and the service reflected that.
