I can't lie, I was a little worried through the whole process. I am a control freak and I was already in Hawaii during the process. We had already shipped our Jeep through the military and that was the most stressful and unnecessarily painful journey from start to finish. It made me more nervous about shipping our Tesla especially since we weren't on mainland anymore. My parents had our Tesla in Arizona and it was picked up from their house. They said the driver was helpful, quick and efficient. So easy! I was actually jealous that they had it so easy because when we dropped our Jeep off we were picking small hairs one by one out of a 2012 Jeep Jk just to drop it off. I bought a truck from a dealership in California and was overwhelmed by the process of finding a good auto transport broker that was reliable, recommended, legit and local. I was very skeptical of the massive businesses who blew up my phone and are still sending me countless emails; these corporations tended to have horrible reviews online. If you are looking for a reliable vehicle transport to the mainland this company is good. Communication was a big factor in my rating of this company. I trusted them as this was a big undertaking for both the transport company and myself. The manager did a good job of helping me understand how things work and how the transport goes from California to Virginia. All I can say is ask more questions, stay on top of the transport, and follow up with daily emails. The lack of communication was bad from my standpoint as I did everything that was asked of me to do. The total for transport of my vehicle was about $6000.00. I decided to use Coastal Auto Shipping after seeing not only the great reviews here on Yelp but reviews from familiar faces. I figure I could trust this shipper if people I actually know used them and had positive experiences. Well, I guess I had the bad luck of the draw. Customer service was not that great to begin with but I still decided to continue with the service since again, everyone else's reviews were positive. Next they tried to rip me off by adding a few hundred dollars when they collected the "first" deposit. When I questioned the amount, they corrected it to what I was initially quoted. Most reviews said they got their vehicle a week earlier or just earlier in general. Not me! I got my car almost a week later than the estimated time given. Although it was not the company's fault for the delay. It was their fault for not communicating the delay to me. Especially since I requested for updates on when the vehicle would be available for delivery to the destination. But then I get a call a couple hours before the car arrived saying the driver will be there soon. This was an issue because we were at work therefore we had to take off early to receive the car. Once we got home from leaving early at work, we get another call asking to meet the transporter in an area because they were afraid they wouldn't fit the roads to our place. When we met up with the driver, I couldn't unload my frustration on the poor guy cause he was just doing his job. So what else could I do? Write this review of course! read more

I needed the car to be in Hawaii on the week of 08/15. Gerson suggested I dropped off the car on 08/03 before 10am. When I got there, Matson quoted the availiblilty date to be 08/29. Of course, I was worried so I was in constant communication with Gerson via email, in which he was very very responsive. Gerson reassured me and told me it should still be there on time and to just wait. On 08/14, I tracked the car and availibility is now 08/22 (7 days earlier). At this point, i had doubts that the car will not be in Hawaii on the week of 08/15, but Gerson suggested we wait before doing anything. On 08/18 at 6pm, tracking says the car had arrived in Honolulu and will be available on 08/22. I was scheduled to leave Honolulu 08/19 so I was certain I wouldn't be able to pick it up. However, early morning of 08/19, Gerson emails me and tells me that my car is ready for pick up! I couldn't believe it! Gerson and his team came through and I was able to pick my vehicle up right before my flight back to mainland. Additionally, there were NO damages. Given that I had to arrange shipping quickly from Hawaii, and the scammy alternatives, they provided pretty good value for money. They are a 3rd party, so they arrange the shipping (well, some of it) for you, and take their cut - $500. The rest of the money went to the shipping company (Matson) and overland car carriers. My main gripe with them was lack of updates - I would have liked to have gotten updates from them without prodding, and how the payments would be made wasn't really clear. I had to contact them a few times - although in fairness, they were always quick to respond. I'll probably never ship another car from Hawaii again, so it's kind of hard to say I'd use them again, and probably knowing what I know now, I'd probably arrange it myself, but I don't regret using it them the one time. read more

To be honest, there were major communication issues surrounding my car's port pick-up that resulted in ~2 weeks of delays and cascading challenges for my move. It was a frustrating experience to pay a transport coordination fee and find that the transport really wasn't being coordinated, and I expressed that to Coastal staff and had a scathing review drafted and ready to go once my car arrived. So, why 5 stars? Not only did I delete my drafted review, but I would consider Coastal again in the future and will recommend them to my program colleagues, as almost all of us need to move between Hawaii and the continent for our doctoral internships. Although late, my car arrived today with no visible damage, and my shipment manager, Alex Duran, called me shortly thereafter to settle on compensation for the communication shortcomings and delays. After our 7-minute phone call (no run-around whatsoever) I received a refund- not a discount, but a refund- for the portion of services that were not adequately delivered. I was very impressed with Alex/Coastal's integrity in making things right to the extent that they did, and I'm more than happy with the quality of the services that I did purchase. Trust that Coastal will get the job done and will make the payment fair for what they deliver. A few tips here, as I agree with the reviewer below noting that communication can be spotty without prodding: 1. Vehicle condition: Get your vehicle cleaned inside and out to USDA inspection standards if shipping from HI. You cannot have anything inside other than one child car seat and whatever came with the vehicle (manual, spare tire, etc.)- even my current registration and safety check needed to come out of the glove box with me. You must have a quarter tank or less of gasoline, a working emergency brake, and no windshield damage upon port drop-off. 2. Payment: You pay in multiple parts- Coastal's fee, Matson's fee (if going over ocean), and the land transit fee (if going to a residential address). The land transit fee is paid upon delivery, and they don't accept personal checks or cards, so be sure to have Zelle, cash, or a certified check ready before your vehicle arrives. Coastal offers student and military discounts, so mention that if you're eligible. 3. Documentation: Before shipment, you must send copies of: (1) the title OR a lien holder authorization letter from your auto loan servicer if they still hold the title, (2) the current registration, and (3) photo identification(s) for anyone listed on the registration. You need to email those to Matson with your booking number before port drop-off (Coastal will provide the booking number and email address), but definitely also bring paper copies with you to the port. I had my car transported from Sacramento to Hawaii. So, first, the car was transported from a home in Sacramento to Oakland Port using a 3rd party company, loaded onto a Matson Ship, and then shipped to Honolulu Port. Not only that, but Coastal coordinated the car being picked up earlier than normal to accommodate my vacation (not being at home). Things could have gone wrong anywhere along the process. However, dealing with Richard Garcia was a smooth experience. He was always responsive to my texts and emails and kept me up to speed on the process. My car arrived on schedule without a hitch in Honolulu where I was able to pick it up ... again, a pretty easy process. The only delay was the time between when the car arrived in Honolulu Port and when I was notified that the car was available for pick up. But that could also have been because there was a 4th of July holiday in between. All in all, I am very satisfied with the service accorded me by Richard and Coastal Auto Shipping. This was for my move from Hawaii to the mainland. At first I was confused about how it works because they are based in Miami. They are basically coordinators, they book shipment on Matson and then a company to pick up the car from the port and delivery. It was confusing at first because there are 3 separate payments to make. One to coastal upfront as their fee, one to Matson when you drop the car off and one to the sub contract tow company on delivery. The total cost is quoted upfront and that's exactly what I paid. I was a little unsure about that model but it worked out just fine. They were pretty responsive to me. I would use them again. read more
