They have no competitor for inter island shipping and that's the only way they stay in business . Customer has no options. They suck big time, customer servise is a mix , some are professional and normal some are rude and extremely incompetent. No one in their sane mind would recommend them but like I said if you have to ship a car , you don't have a choice that's affordable. I dropped my vehicle off on 7/22 was supposed to sail 7/27, due to mistakes exclusively on their end they finally shipped it 8/3. No one notifies you of any delays, changes etc etc. They do pick up their phones at least . And then it's a gamble who you gonna speak to and how they will speak to you. I shipped a SUV from Maui to HNL and went to the port to pick it up in an Uber. Easy to get in once we explained what we were doing to the rather gruff security guard and the office is easy to find, and the staff helpful. I paid there and got my paperwork completed. Unfortunately when I went to pick up my vehicle it had a ding in the bumper where someone had backed into it while it was being shipped. Not great to have to deal with, but the ladies in the office and RORO office, and Rochelle who handles the insurance claims, went out of their way to help, were friendly and professional, and made the process a lot easier than I expected. Their friendliness really shone through. Thank you ladies :) Shipping the SUV from the Maui end went well, just book ahead and have the correct papers and drop off on time. They made it easy once I arrived, although they never answer the phone. We filled our car up the windows, with the back seat as far back as it could go and tied it up with a security cable and everything was in place when I picked up. We shipped a dismantled peleton bike and office chair, tools, gym equipment and lithium batteries that we couldn't send over with air cargo. Young Brothers went above and beyond when transporting my sister's truck from Honolulu to Kawaihae. I didn't have my license with me, so I couldn't go inside the facility, but the staff kindly allowed me to wait outside the gate--such a relief! Later, we realized my sister had accidentally left her phone in the truck, and it had already left with the barge. The workers quickly notified her and reassured us they would take care of the phone until she could pick it up at the Kawaihae destination. When my sister arrived to retrieve her truck on Hawaii Island, the first thing the attendant did was hand her the well-cared-for phone. Total abuse of power. Just because you drop your equipment off doesn't mean they will ship it. Get to another island and go to pick-up equipment for the job only to find out they changed their minds and decided not to ship. Not for any reason. No notification. A lot goes into making a job happen. It is a big loss of money and time when you can't do the work. YB never refunds you either, and they pull this crap all of the time. They are heavily subsidized by the state, so yes, I think they should be held accountable, but we all know that will never happen. read more

I've been using Young Brothers to ship my car back and forth from Honolulu and Lanai and each time the process has been on point and straight forward and this most recent shipment was no different. To ship a vehicle, you need to go online and book a reservation. Once you send in your reservation request, you get a confirmation email of the day and time you're able to bring in your vehicle to ship. Make sure to print a copy and bring that with you when you bring your car in. Be sure to pay attention to your time because back then, I was actually able to check in my car any time but now it's on a scheduled basis. When I arrived at my designated time slot, the lady confirmed my rsvp and shortly there after, she took in my papers that had all my info of my car and the destination to where my car would be shipped to. This was such a easy process because back then, they would make us fill out everything there. (Sorry when I mean back then, I would say the last time I shipped my car was maybe 10 years ago.) Once my papers were verified the lady then inspected my car just like that, done. I probably was at Young Brothers for less than 10 minutes. Also being that I just shipped my car, I needed to walk back out to the main roads, when the nice lady who checked me in asked if I needed a ride to the entrance. A++ to customer service!! My parents picked my car up on Lanai and they informed me that they also had an easy time getting the car from the barge. Stay on the lane to the right. Have your identification and reservation invoice. 3rd....Follow the large blue dots on the roadway. It will take you to the right behind the second building (Customer Service/Cashier Bldg). There will be a parking lot and a two container building. At the desk, there will be a sign in sheet with name and time appointment. A Service Attendant will complete the vehicle intake and clearance. The Attendant was able to give me information of when the ship will be at Hilo and when I will be called to pickup the vehicle. Paperwork was given to me. I went over to the cashier's office to pay for the shipping. 4th....They called my son and he went down to pickup the vehicle at the harbor. He had an easy time getting the vehicle. I came 20 minutes early than schedule.I observed that the workers taken seems to be there friends who just arrived before me and not in there roster helping them before me. no respect for time and in a way it is discrimination. First come first serve rule is very fair. Maybe they don't have huge competitor and don't care the small amount of customers they they affected with there poor service. The employees seems not friendly and only do what they please they cherry pick who they want to help so this means the rules don't matter anymore. The price was good as well but where we ended up is far from where we started when we went to get our vehicle . All of our belongings arrived very quick and there was no damage. We heard a number of bad service, long wait time feedback from people, but luckily our recent experience was excellent! Follow the instructions provided to you, get your supporting paperwork in order and make sure you have less than 1/4 tank of gas in the vehicle. Have your reservation completed with YB and your booking number on hand. You wanna make sure you arrive early, take a number to hold your spot in line, have your current registration papers, insurance card and less than 1/4 tank of gas in the vehicle. This will save you time and will help you get through the process quickly. Fill out the form provided by YB, have contents in vehicle packed and ready to go and your key ready for their staff. Young Brothers is located along Nimitz. When you enter the shipyard, you show your I.D and proceed to the office to fill out paperwork if you didn't do so prior. My man had a number of pieces of bulk items to ship to an outer island. He called a month in advance to coordinate their shipping schedule with our schedule. We were informed that if we wanted to be able to collect the shipped items on the other end at the date we desired, we would have to have the items in the shipping container at the dock by 11:30AM today (Tuesday). Apparently, we were told wrong because the deadline was yesterday... Now, my man has to figure out who will collect his shipped items since he will be back here on Oahu by the time his things arrive. Since Young Brothers is pretty much the only option when shipping to outer islands, my advice is to call multiple times to make sure you get consistent information. I have other friends that use Young Brothers' services for vehicle shipping to outer islands and they seemed to have no complaints. The customer service is very friendly, though. The two women that helped us load our things into the shipping container were extremely pleasant and answered all our questions. read more

Weirdest company ever. No one ever picks up the phone. I've tried calling at least 5 times for two weeks. It just rings and rings during business hours and just goes busy after about 2 minutes of ringing. They said it was some telephone issue with the phone company when I contacted them via Facebook message. A few days later I followed up via Facebook message and asked when they would actually be calling me back. My phone rang a few minutes later. Spoke to a rep who was not particularly helpful but I still went with it and decided to book with them. They transferred me to their sales office in Honolulu and the same thing. The phone just rings and rings and no one picks up. If this is the level of service they provide before I give them my business, I have ZERO faith in the follow through process that they're gonna ship my things. Can't believe I have to chase down a business just to give them my business. This is true sign that it's gonna be a hard pass. The reason it's so horrible to ship with them is one reason and one reason only. The company gave IPads to a already none efficient process with people that are computer illiterate. They have you get your keys to your car and pay then go sign in for three guys that take a hour to sign you out for no reason. Shipping a vehicle to the outer island? Start planning ahead. We just shipped our son's truck to Hilo and they only ship on Tuesdays and Saturdays. You should make your reservation at least two weeks in advance. Even with the reservation, they can't guarantee it will ship out that day. What's convenient is that they allow you to pack the vehicle. Nothing on the front seat, behind the driver's seat or above window level. If you have a car, you can pack the trunk. Once you get to Young Brothers, there's a guard at the gate. Follow the blue line until you get to a sign. The sign says to wait for check-in, but you do not need to wait. Park your vehicle and you can wait in the small container office. Just need to fill out forms, they inspect your vehicle, then off to the payment office. There's a long line of vehicles so get there early. Although it looks so busy, the process is pretty well organized. The truck shipped on a Tuesday and arrived there in Thursday. As mentioned, we packed the truck with a TV, crock pot, pots, containers, groceries, liquor...all arrived safe & sound! I think the cost is by weight and cost around $490, not too bad. read more

Then I get an email this week stating they can't send it because the dumbass who took the res didn't know YB was closed the next day. (Didn't state anywhere on the site they were closed for Thanksgiving and they would not accept reservation for day before.) Now their soonest isn't until Dec 7th.
