I wasn't expecting much, but I have to admit it was one of the best meals I've had in a while. From beginning to end, my husband and I kept saying , "this is really, realllyy good!" We had the tuna poke to start. My husband is usually very generous and lets me eat the last bite. Not this time. Nope. We both had the chimichurri flank steak with cilantro potatoes. Woah. Loved every bite. We ended with flourless cake and ice cream, the kids ended with cookie and ice cream. Woah. Have stayed here 3 times so far and I must say get the wings . At first I was a little sketchy about hotel wings but the bartender recommended them and as a wing guy I had to try . The flavor is bursting the wings are not bare they have plenty of meat and there not stingy about how many they give . We are staying at the Hilton Del Mar, and didn't feel like going out and driving to a restaurant for dinner. We thought we'd try the CoastalKITCHEN here at the hotel! What a pleasant surprise! My husband and I had excellent meals, cooked to perfection! They use fresh, local ingredients (and even have their own garden). Our waitress, Kim was exceptional and knew everything on the menu! Friendly staff, very clean and fresh interior, fun location in the heart of the new walking district in Dana Point. I'd give it a 5 star but they lack in GIRL FOOD. One fried Brie salad which was really tasty. Not enough healthy choices. Cocktails are creative and really good. I'd go more often if they had a better menu. Lunch menu was the same as dinner. We stayed at the Hilton over 4th of July weekend for a friends birthday this year and they were AMAZING! When I made the dinner reservation, I mentioned that it was my friends bday and they went above and beyond to make it super cute with a little vase of flowers and some candles. The food was DELICIOUS and the atmosphere was cute and quaint. It also didn't hurt that the drinks were also good and served by some nice eye candy ;) I would absolutely come back again! read more

Great Easter Brunch, service was fantastic and new remodel of hotel is really pretty

The server was super sweet, but everything else was just off. We had the short rib, which was really good but it was literally just one short rib. And my husband ordered the lobster gnocchi, which came out with raw lobster the first time. We sent it back and the lobster was still not cooked the second time and the gnocchi was over cooked. It all was fine, not horrible, but severely over priced for what was delivered. I also had the house cab, which tasted like a super sweet and cheap merlot. Also, the vibe is just super weird. I don't know if it was the lighting or what, but it was just uncomfortable. Like I said, it was completely horrible or anything, it was just way over priced for the food and service offered. I have high expectations for Del Mar restaurants because there are tons of restaurants within like 5mi that are AMAZING. read more

An amazing restaurant - we had an absolutely perfect rehearsal dinner here. First off, it was super easy to work with them. From our first trip, to the tasting, to the day of, every staff member was friendly and helpful. Adam Schink was the last manager would did the final planning with and he is an easy-going, professional and friendly person to work with. He and his staff were able to set up a private area outside for us that fit perfectly to our needs. They provided two servers for the entire evening to take care of our food and beverage service. They allowed us to bring in our own wine for a corkage fee and it was extremely helpful in keeping our costs down. It's a gorgeous space to dine outside as well. Finally, the food is fantastic. Their gourmet flat breads and Poke nachos are amazing! Everyone raved about our food that night. The entrees, like the short ribs and burger were just as good as expected. We will definitely be coming back when we're in town! read more

The Hilton is very pleasant and casual. It is an older property and we ate there with 8 family members for Easter Brunch. Luckily we got a nice seat outside in the sun. The food was fair but with a good chef to run the foods by, they would have seen some mistakes. Pork & roast beef had no flavor or was overcooked and dry (pork); desserts were yummy!! The Hilton is near our home so it was convenient to come to and the Brunch pricing was reasonable. Buffets are fun to try all the different choices. Was staying at the hotel and decided to dine in instead of going out. I sat in the bar area dining and wanted to work while eating lunch. After 10 minutes of watching waitstaff walk by me and while I listened to the bar tender carry on a lengthy conversation with another couple at the bar, I decided to look at the menu at the entrance of the restaurant, on the wall. I hoped this would give the staff the hint that I wanted to order, but that was not the case. After sitting down again and still not getting service I decided to approach the bar. The waitress/bar tender followed me back my table and took my order, Caesar Salad with Salmon. This was one of the worse salads I ever tasted. It was package, store-bought croutons and dressing. The salmon was pan-seared without ANY seasoning and a little overcooked. I unfortunately didn't notice that adding salmon to the salad made it $26. Shame on me for not paying attention. Anyway, I later watched another party get just a little better service. I will never eat her again. read more

I give no one a 5 star. This is a casual setting in the sports bar but you can go outside too. The food is very good and fresh ingredients. Eaten the salmon on flatbread, Caesar salad, and a couple of other dishes. The service is very good, friendly and helpful. Prices are quite reasonable and portions are up there. I meet with a lot of small groups for business and this is one of my favorite places.Parking is advertised at $22 but they validate so no fee. Think the $22 is to keep the fairgrounds goers from taking over their lots. Food is good, unique, fresh and they don't nickel and dime you for extras here and there. Oh yeah, almost forgot. Ask the guy bartender about his favorite scotch. He has Scotch that I have never heard about. The burnt peat moss, burnt barrels, the subtle flavors... I've been a scotch drinker most of my life and got a great lesson. (plus a bit of a tasting lesson also). read more

We made a reserv 12/30/14 for 4 adults and 2 kids. We were told by friends this restaurant had a well known chef and was really good. From the beginning the staff seemed confused. They wanted to put us in a private dining area . I asked if there wAs another restaurant because the lobby restaurAnt seemed super casual and not as described by our friends. The waitress seemed confused abt the restaurant (was there a second one???)and when we asked abt the chef she was unaware who he was ,or abt his reputation as a good chef. The service wAs very slow due to our server having the entire dining room. The appetizers were cold. The dinners were good but nothing special. Ashley wS nice And did the best she could but needs additional training. When asked for a Cup of coffee she brought it in a Paper cup saying the restAurant only has 3-4 mugs and they were all dirty. Our dinner was not cheap $230. considering we has 2 kids meals and 2 adult grilled cheese dinners Only 2 of us had drinks( 3 glasses of wine total). My friend and I were told that this hotel restaurant was good. We were told that the burgers were tasty and the best item on the menu. We both asked for medium-rare burgers with cheddar cheese. I got a side of fries and he got a side of ceasar salad. The first red flag was the waiter not coming back to check if our food was good. We both bit into the burger at the same time. It was very very burnt. The pickles were warm. How does one warm pickles. After that, we ordered some cookies and milk. The cookies came with a chocolate drizzle. But the milk never arrived. We tried to flag down the waiter, but he had nothing to do with us. My friend had to walk in to get milk. So, all in all, I would never consider coming back to Coastal Kitchen ever again read more

My family was celebrating my daughter's Doctoral Commencement last week and were treated to outstanding service on the beautiful patio by Tara. We had a party of nine and this amazing young lady was able to take care of all of us with a smile on her face! We never had to wait more than a minute for our orders! As soon as one of use would get served a fresh cocktail, another one of us would need a refill! She served us not only cocktails and appetizers, but managed to get all of our delicious dinners on the table at the same time! She worked her tail off to keep us all happy! We celebrated my 60th birthday with a fabulous family party in the private dining room of the coastalKitchen on July 9, 2016. The food was great and the staff went above and beyond to meet our every need and and request! This was our third family trip to the Del Mar Hilton in the past two years, we enjoy the large pool and beautiful courtyard and the proximity to Del Mar's lovely beaches. It is our go to destination for our family gatherings. We recommend the hotel and restaurant to everyone we know and hope to be back soon. read more

We are locals. Decided to dine at coastalKITCHEN to celebrate a birthday on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. The setting was perfect as we had three kids with us. They were able to explore outside without disturbing other guests. The food was great. Nice selection from appetizers all the way through to desert, carrying through their farm to fork concept. Ben, behind the bar at the Coastal Kitchen inside the Hilton Del Mar (across from the Del Mar Fairgrounds) is the most courteous, friendly, service-oriented barkeep we've ran across in years. He made me a Bloody Mary w/ bacon-infused vodka (infused on-site), and my wife a Bloody Mary w/ jalapeño-infused vodka and they were both fantastic. As good as both of those drinks were, they were nothing compared to Ben's creation - combining both of those drinks into one Bloody Mary sip of heaven. So, we highly, highly recommend Ben and his Bloody Mary w/ bacon-infused and jalapeño-infused vodka if you're looking for a relaxed atmosphere and great service. read more
