Please don't be fooled by this establishments overall ratings. I'll break it down by category. Note this was for dinner coming in around 7p after the Del Mar races finished. Food: 2.5 - We tried the Turkey Club and California Burrito. Both were just ok and nothing to write home about. Turkey club was supposed to have bacon but instead they substituted ham. I assume this is because they ran out of bacon?? Regardless it didn't have alot of flavor and I was forced to add mustard and mayo to make it edible. The California burrito was also just ok. It was loaded on French fries and very little meat. I thought it needed salsa but was told they don't have any and gave me Tabasco. Service: 0 star. When we came in, the place was nearly empty. We asked to sit together and we had to put our own tables together. Because we had a decent sized group (12) I did expect to have to wait for our food. It took almost 1hr after ordering! We didn't get our food until almost 815. Drink service was terrible. We were looking for our server on many occasions as she would disappear randomly and never checked in on us. Drinks were not refilled timely at all and at one point, 1 member of our party went up to get the pitcher of water and refilled our glasses. Had the waitress been on top of her game, our party easily would have had 2-3 drinks each. Instead most of us had 1 and if lucky got a 2nd. Very disappointed with their service. To top it off, Nicole (our server) had 0 personality. She auto added 20% tip and then tricked many of us into adding additional tip because she wouldn't provide the itemized receipt until after we paid. Very shoddy business here. Overall: Save yourself the headache. You may be tired after the races but do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. In fact, I'd even go to Dennys over this place. There are plenty of other local businesses to eat that are within 10m drive (Lyft / Uber) that offer much better food and service.

This is the restaurant inside the Hilton. I have eaten here before with a nice menu full of good nibbles but the menu now is 9 things. No kids menu at all. That being said we were able to get a plain Cheese flatbread for the littles that they liked. Special of the day was filet mignon. They were kind enough to approve all our substitutions but do not take temp requests! It comes one temp and pre sliced. I didn't eat it but my dinner mates ordered 4 of them and everyone cleaned their plates. I got the roasted chicken and it was good. Nice an juicy with good flavor though the skin was fatty and it crispy so I had to take it off, which did take some flavor away. It came with creamed corn- which was pretty much the reason I got it- and there was like a tablespoon schmeared all over so that was disappointing. You can sit inside or outside and there are TVs al over so it's good for hanging out and no pressure to leave your table, you keep on doing your thing. Server was nice, bartender was as well. Our server told us there was a new chef that day and they hoped to be reviving some of the old menu which would be great. The food was fine, actually good for a hotel but we needed the variety that they used to have. Also, they have Pepsi products and not coke which is blah to me.

Whoever said that hotel restaurants are boring has not been to coastalKITCHEN. My girlfriends and I stopped in for a late lunch on a Saturday in the off-track season and were pleasantly surprised. From the moment we stepped into the large, open hotel lobby we were impressed. The modern decor of the hotel is punctuated with pops of fuchsia color which was energizing and beautiful. We took a table outside with a view of the pool and started with dirty martinis that were strong and delicious. Moments later our appetizers of shisoto peppers and shrimp ceviche arrived with lovely plating. details such as grilled lemons and edible flowers added a touch of class. My girls split a cobb salad and I opted for a lobster roll with fries. My roll had a decent amount of lobster and soft fresh bread. The massive portion of french fries were hot and delicious even though I was the only one partaking in the decadent treat. Kudos to the kitchen for their unique plating, fresh ingredients and a diverse menu. I will certainly return to coastalKITCHEN when the Del Mar races are not running.

My good friend was super sweet to treat me to CoastalKITCHEN's wine dinner, which includes 4 courses with a dessert with a wine pairing for each step of the meal! Let's just say I had such a fun time and it was one of the coolest dining experiences I've had. The whole experience was extremely intimate and candle lit. There's even a host that explains the background of each and every wine who has a really inviting personality and after every course that comes out, the head chef Alex Emery comes out and describes the dish, which makes the meal more special. On a normal basis, you just kinda go to a restaurant and enjoy the food, but actually seeing the chef talk about their creations and to see how passionate they are about it, it definitely adds to the experience. My friend has had this head chef's meals in the past and has raved about it, but seriously after I experienced it myself, he really knows what he's doing and he puts so much attention into his preparation. Everything he made was so delectable, but what I thought was really cool was the dessert - pannacotta in which he incorporated milk + cereal as ingredients. It was SOOO good & it had this really soulful flavor.. if that makes sense. There were a lot of "Oooh Ahhhs" throughout the night, that's for sure. I believe this wine dinner costs roughly around $75/person, but I really do think it's worth it. Definitely a cute anniversary date idea or shoot.. if you simply just wanna treat yourself & be kind to yourself! I would be really happy to do the experience again :)

OPENING WEEK AT DEL MAR !!! What's better than a day at the races??? coastalKITCHEN is located in Hilton Hotel poolside and they are back what looked to be full dining capacity (they were working off soggy takeout breakfast sandwiches during the pandemic). Went with traditional Eggs Benedict but they have several Mexican influenced choices and traditional eggs your way with a protein. This is a spot many locals forget about but should consider more often. Very relaxed atmosphere and they completely redid the pool area landscaping and patio area.

This review is only based on my service with ordering drinks and food on the patio outside. The patio area is gorgeous and it's really nice and clean, with lots of places to sit and multiple fire pits. Wine was good and the whole restaurant was packed. Caesar salad wasn't good, the croutons weren't garlic brioche like described on menu and tasted like they came out of a bag that you could buy at a grocery store, minimal dressing and 2 baby tomatoes cut in half, with a few pieces of wilted lettuce in it. Service outside was disappointing. There was maybe 3 other people our waitress was helping and the inside eating area was packed. We ordered drinks and a salad. She brought out the margaritas and after trying them and realizing they were just cups full of margarita mix, we wanted to get a different drink. Someone else brought the salad to the table and she didn't come back to check on us at all. We had to get up and go ask her if we could order some wine instead and we were nice about the dislike for the drinks, I know it wasn't our servers fault. Someone else brought out the wine. We had to leave and she never came back to check on us at all. She had been serving everyone else outside though. We had to flag down the manager who was serving food to ask for our check, when she brought it over she left the margs on there and said they were cheaper than the wine, but I showed her the wine was cheaper. She fixed it for us. It looked like everyone else was enjoying the service and the food/drinks and maybe it was just an off night. Very convenient when you're staying at the restaurant and the other food we saw people order looked good.

Horrible customer service and food was worse! We stayed at Hilton and tried coastalKitchen for breakfast. The server was very rude. He was working by himself with many tables. It seemed like he didn't want more table so we made it to-go. Food quality was worse than the service. Carne Asada tasted like a fish! Two eggs were served with grilled Sandwich Ham!

Food was super delicious! Quite a surprise for a hotel lobby restaurant. I had the pork chop (medium) which was served with a side of bacon and caramelized onion (amazing!) and diced potatoes, and baked brussel sprouts. A very hearty meal. We had some issues with speed of service, but our waiter was very kind and courteous when tending to us. Also recommend the chocolate lava cake for desert, which comes with two scoops of vanilla ice cream on the side.

Avoid if you are hoping for good food. The place was empty, yet they seemed to have trouble staying on top of the 2 tables that had customers. Service was friendly but slow. The food is awful. The flatbread was on inedible bread. Clearly a pre-cooked base that should never have been served. The calamari was the worst I have ever had. Tasteless, oily, inedible breading. The olives small plate was strange... a huge bowl of uninspired olives. The Hibachi Salmon... was edible. But dry. The salads were OK. Picture having dinner in the lobby of a very average hotel chain. That's Coastal Kitchen. read more

In the restaurant is good but don't order room service! Same menu in the room for room service and down in the restaurant when staying at the Hilton. We ate in the restaurant and got fritto misto, buffalo wings, pork belly tacos, fish tacos, avocado tacos, and burgers. All was good. Next day we got room service and we got a pepperoni flatbread and lobster gnocchi and both were terrible!! Besides taste, when they brought up the flatbread they brought 2 on 1 plate on top of each other separated by a thin piece of tissue paper. The paper stuck to all of the gross cheese and we couldn't separate it so it was just saucey bread. Such a bizarre way to serve something. One positive thing about room service is it is very quick. we came to the bar on a saturday night deciding to get out of the house. it's down the street from home. the service wasn't that great, it took a while to get a server to us. we walked up to the bar instead and the bartender was great. great bar area, with fire places everywhere. very simple and nice ambience. the valet even held our car since we were only grabbing a quick bite. nice place, i'll be back. read more

Great service and good food! I loved the cucumber-lime-lemon non alcoholic drink they had, extremely refreshing! Portions are decent for the price. I liked the ambiance, patio has ample seating with sofas as well as tables. They also had live music until 10pm on Saturday, which we liked since it wasn't a loud band but soft guitar and vocals in the background. Would like to see more dinner options (specially vegetarian entrees) on the menu. I definitely recommend this place for a casual evening out with friends and family. read more

A shout out to Claudia and Lily who did a great job of serving us today with our drinks and food service. We had brunch pool side and it was very nice. You should check out this new brunch menu by the way! It is just another example of the service, good food and attention we always get from the staff. Thanks also to Rich, Dan, Micah and Lindsey for handling all the beverages and to Katilynn, Tara, Michelle, Paige, and Kim who do a great job attending to our food service needs on every visit. As frequent travelers to this hotel my wife and I appreciate all the improvement efforts Adam is making in the food and beverage area to make our stay even more enjoyable. Last but not least a big thanks to Business Travel Mgr Michelle, Stevi in Sales, Desmond and all the Front Desk Staff. You make it so easy to move in and out of our "home away from home" and feel welcome and like part of the family. This is not a hotel restaurant... This is a restaurant with a hotel attached. Wow. Love the changes to this place. I frequented this establishment often in years past, and the changes to the menus keep impressing me! Dan behind the bar is still as great and knowledgeable as ever. The cocktails were amazing. The whiskey sour was one of the best I've had. Love that they have large cubes too! And the food is incredible. The octopus with a romesco and chimichurri was perfect with the prosciutto. The bone marrow was phenomenal as well. Don't be put off by the location inside a Hilton. It stands out on it's own. read more

Our whole Lacrosse team was at the hotel for an overnight. We wanted to do a team dinner. Adam, the Food and Bev manager, with just a few days notice, went out of his way to accommodate 52 of us. He made our team dinner feel so special and intimate. He set us up outside, by the fire pit overlooking the pool. Our servers, Paige and Kaitlynn were so great, kind, professional, and so patient with us parents (who thought we were on vacation) and about 25 kids, 18 of them were boys! The food was served hot and prepared beautifully. We made some great toasts and fond memories that night, And placed 2nd in the lacrosse tourney! Thanks read more

This place was pretty good!! We came here after an event at the fairgrounds, and it was busy but not ridiculously packed. The nice thing is they have parking here for free for 2 hrs if you validate, so don't be afraid of high parking prices! Two of us had the crispy chicken. It was slightly expensive for what we got I think, but everything was yummy. I wouldn't say the hockey was crispy though, especially because they put the sauce over the chicken! Noooooo! Goodbye crispness! Our friend had the steak with lobster hash: that looked DECADENT. I think he liked it. I mean it's lobster and steak. For dessert, their items are pretty basic, stuff they probably have pre-frozen that they thaw out or bake. The red velvet cake can be skipped, not that great. Flourless cake was I think more molten lava cake than flourless with the ice cream: it was yummy, but I'd say a little expensive for what you get. The cookies and milk was good, nice cookies! Overall, I'd probably go back if I ever have an event there again! read more

Seared tuna dish is just plain disgusting, grossly under seasoned and the bak choy is bitter with absolutely zero seasoning! A good looking plate but that's it! The staff is really attentive and pleasant and they serve a mean bread pudding with ice cream!!! That dessert is def the reason I'll continue to eat with them, def not another tuba dish though. read more

Came here for restaurant week, did not realize that this was a restaurant inside a hotel. We were wondering if maybe this was a bad idea.... Overall, the food was pretty good. However, the service was incredibly slow. Appetizer, Entree and Dessert took 2 hours. Easily 30 min between courses. Also, incorrect labeling as "decadent chocolate cake served with vanilla ice cream" ended being a frozen chocolate ice cream cake served with more vanilla ice cream. Not sure why the staff was so slow - I was told that there were a lot of new waitstaff that night. We weren't the only ones who were impatient, we heard the table next to us complain loudly about how slow the service was. 3 stars. read more

I always stop in for drinks at the coastalkitchen' for drinks and food when I head to the track. The new food menu is amazing! The bartenders dan and Raz are the best in del mar! It's a hidden gem of del mar. The backyard has live music on the weekends and a great vibe! read more

Enjoyed a Mother's Day brunch here. When driving by, the exterior of the hotel was not too impressive; but, don't let that fool you. As soon as you step inside A+! We enjoyed a table on the patio, pool side and the grounds were very nice. The food choices were great. And our server, Claudia, was super attentive with a great personality. This place is a hidden treasure and our family will definitely make a return visit. read more

The seared ahi was very good. All of the food and even the free house wine with the yelp check in was good except the kale ceaser which had no kale. The location is near del Mar fairgrounds. The parking is validated for 2 hours free, after that it is 4 dollars. The flat bread with chicken was also good. read more

First rate hotel bar. Good selection of drinks. Some cool beers on tap, not the boring safe choices. Nice wine selection for a hotel, close to what you would see a restaurant. Had the wings and they were very good and different. Overall I think this is a pretty awesome place. read more

I have traveled to hundreds of hotels and have never had service at this level. Dan, Micah, Rich Lindsey, Katilynn, Kelsie, Tara and Kim are amazing. Their attention to detail and friendly demeanor are only surpassed by the delicious food. I highly recommended everything about this place. The best part is you don't have to be staying at the hotel to enjoy this gem... it's open to everyone. read more

I am a Del Mar Local and stayed here tonight for a little getaway. We are at the Coastal Diner and ordered 3 diff tacos which were not good the "soft" tortilla was hard and inedible? I asked for limes with our drinks and every piece was dry nothing could be squeezed out, no salsa or sauce very plain. I ordered the Poke Bowl and oh was it a disappointment So so salty, spicy, drenched in soy sauce just awful. I had to get rid of the taste and i was hungry so i was told the salad was good so i ordered the kale caeser with dressing on the side. Brought me a bowl full of romaine lettuce!!! The last straw was the cheesecake told it was healthy with greek yogurt but tasted far too rich? I cant believe a restaurant would serve such food. Very disappointing when you go away to relax and realize you were better off at home... read more

Came here for the La Jolla half marathon this weekend and was happy to be able to celebrate with the after party at the pool. Music was awesome and there were cool craft beer vendors. The staff was amazing and were super on top of everything. Shout out to the bartender Dan for making the day that much more fun! The fish taco and calamari appetizers were both really great! I LOVED the fish taco it had a little bit of kick which I love. Del-margarita was small but pretty good!! Probably one of the best hotel restaurants that I have eaten at in a while. Great vibe and friendly staff. I definitely will eat here again :). read more

My first time at this restaurant and I was pleasantly surprised. The ambience was quite inviting. I love the patio seating and best of all the service was "par excellence" . The waitress Katie-Lynne? Was very cordial, knows her stuff and appropriately friendly.The food was very delicious and I love the glass of wine on the house once you "Checked in" via Yelp ahead of time. A couple weeks ago I stayed at the Hilton in Del Mar and had a phenomenal experience. I was surprised to find a fun bar right in the lobby with a great food and impeccable service. The drinks were INCREDIBLE and Dan at the bar made my trip especially memorable. He's a master at introducing people and ensuring everybody at his bar is having fun. Make sure you try his margaritas! My wife and I were staying at the Hilton Del Mar for our upcoming wedding and we hung out at this restaurant a few times during our stay. Overall, it was quite average, but has potential to improve. We stopped in here before the Del Mar races and boy were we impressed! Dan, the bartender was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. He never steered us wrong and had excellent recommendations for the rest of our trip! We liked him so much, we came back for dinner the next time we were in the area. Stayed at the hotel, we ordered food and drinks. Staff was friendly but slow(which is understandable because it was crowded) our first round of food ended up coming out before our drinks. Its ok, the appetizers were good. We then ordered our meals. Got a hamburger that was raw in the middle and served cold and the waitress responded "we have had a few of those tonight" then took it back, never returned with another burger. Then we ordered sliders medium well to be sure it was cooked enough to eat. They came out with toppings that were requested to not be on them. Also was rare in the middle of the meat, so that food did not get touched anymore. When the bill came out, we were charged for the burger. We brought it to our waitress attention and was getting nowhere so requested the manager. When the manager came out she said "well you never asked us to remove it from the bill". Was very sad that there was no responsibility taken and food was coming out in that condition. read more

Hilton in Del Mar conveniently right across from the Del Mar race track. Newly renovated and new menu. Staff is really friendly, especially our bartender, Dan. He is an phenomenal mixologist and pours excellent cocktails with his own mix. His knowledge of the menu and seasonal drinks was extensive and his company was warm and welcoming. Other customers offered to drive Chase home since he was wasted. He told them to F off. I've never seen such unprofessionalism and sadly I know this is only one of many occurrences of Chase (THE MANAGER) getting embarrassingly drunk and aggressive (and driving himself home after). Bad, bad look and I won't be returning until he's fired. I urge the owner to speak to the other employees personally. @Tommy

This place is amazing, amazing service and amazing food I have the photos to prove it. The only disappointment about the photo is that the best bar tender in Del Mar is not in the picture. His name is Mikah, he is a legendary rugby god, and an amazing bartender, dan and rich are perfect bartenders and they offer the best service in Del Mar when mikah is unavailable, if your staying in the hotel, or just driving by, do yourself a favor and drop by. read more

I loved the food, the service, the waiters, waitresses, bartenders, and the atmosphere! I had Alexis, Felicia, and Richard wait on me! All so great, personable, hard working, and served us in a timely manner!! People of yelp- if you go here ask Rich to make you a drink and ask for Felicia and Alexis to be your waitresses!
