Coastal was just ok. We were a party of 8 and arrived shortly after they opened for lunch. Oddly, the hostess seated us outside in the blazing sun--even though the inside was mostly empty. We asked to move indoors because it was unbearable. Food-wise, my jumbo shrimp was good, and my husband enjoyed his burger. The restaurant is beautiful and open. Ate at the Coastal beach bar side last night. The line just to get on the wait list at the main restaurant was crazy. I don't know what happened to these crab claws, but some were hard as rocks and you couldn't bite into them. Some of them were ok but had surprisingly spicy breading which wasn't good to me. I couldn't really eat many, and left most of them on the plate. I had a better previous experience at the main restaurant so I'm sure the food would have been better there, if you don't mind waiting in line all night. read more

What a delightful experience! A friend and I enjoyed breakfast on the Gulf. Food was yum! But the stand-out was the small-town-friendly service. Desiree greeted us like we were the very people she hoped to see that day then handed us off to Keen who was even friendlier. I'm gluten-intolerant so Keen quickly grabbed a GF menu for me. I ended up ordering ala carte and was very satisfied. Brought my husband home a sweet roll bigger than his head. He's loving it! Just an all-around great experience. I've had grits all my life but never this good. Smooth and creamy with Gouda cheese and seasoning. My sister had the Breakfast Bake; eggs sausage and cheese in a pastry bowl with a side of potato. Came the the gumbo festival and it did not disappoint! Amazing turn out and amazingly talented gumbos to try! Every table was decorated and each gumbo had its own flair. Coastal OB has the perfect venue for hosting such a festival with the best view (Gulf of America), shaded outdoor bar, gift shop, bathrooms, stage with a band, and a turfed handicap accessible access for all to enjoy. I got the shrimp and grits they were very good. It was a first for me on the fried grits but I liked them. We got seared very quick. All of are servers were very nice. My only down side was there is a language barrier for some of the servers and proceed to put the tray of oysters on the complete wrong side of the table but it wasn't anything serious and there was another server who help right after to move it for us. The building was very clean and has a great view of the ocean even far back in the restaurant. They even helped with my grandpas birthday and gave him a great slice of key lime cheesecake. The atmosphere is hard to beat with its beachfront location and our server was friendly, attentive, and very fast. I appreciated that they offered an allergy menu, but as someone with a dairy allergy, the options were extremely limited. At many other restaurants especially in the area, dishes can be modified by removing a sauce or topping, but that didn't seem to be an option here, so I ended up with a salad and added shrimp. The food was good, but the portions felt a little smaller than expected for the price for the seafood entrees that others in our party got. Overall, the great service and beautiful beach setting made for an enjoyable experience but probably some better bang for your buck places in the area. read more

We chose to sit in the outside bar area as it was a little chilly with a breeze rolling in off the ocean tonight. The mood was nice with live music and lots of fun family conversations going on. We went here on our vacation to Gulf Shores for the first time. Orange Beach is a short drive and lots to see there. Taylor was our server and she did a very good job. We had popcorn shrimp, kids cheeseburgers, shrimp tacos, tuna poke nachos, Key lime cheesecake, pimento cheese appetizer, fried crab claws, and lots of good drinks. A perfect place to enjoy the view and beauty of Orange Beach! The drinks were tasty and food delicious. Have never had more delicious shrimp tacos and they were stuffed so full of shrimp I had to eat some of them with a fork in order to pick up the taco. Visited here in a Saturday morning prior to returning home to Georgia. We were sat next to the deck/window. We asked about opening it up so we could see, but was told we were unable to do so due to the party next to us requesting the blinds to be down. Our server appeared to be slightly irritable whenever we asked about anything. Instead of walking around the table to hand us things, she would either reach over us or pass them to someone else for them to hand us our food/drinks. My meal was good. I ordered the breakfast sandwich and it was good. The potatoes were nice and crispy and seasoned. The food overall was good, not great though. I'd be interested to return for either lunch or dinner when the menu is more expansive.
