My shower mixing valve was causing only cold water to flow. Another plumber wanted to replace the valve and old faucets for an estimate of $4000. Said he couldn't guarantee just fixing the valve would be sufficient. I then remembered Coastal who did an excellent job replacing my water heater. Called them after buying the replacement valve and they were able to rebuild the old valve without removing it or breaking into the wall, saving several hours of labor. Total cost was $350. Listen...I know it's not easy to locate a leak sometimes. Not all house plumbing is the same. I called them after a local long time Vistonian referred me. I also know everyone is super busy, but they came out as soon as they could. The first tech couldn't find it; he escalated it to another who upgraded some items I requested and still a leak. Then, he escalated to Kip. Kip came out, and I could tell he tried all the tricks and finally stopped the leak. Although more work needs to be done, the leak has stopped, and that was my #1 priority. We're planning on what needs to happen to work around the structure of my house to get cold water again to the Master BA sinks. That's not a big deal, in my opinion , not to have that water for now. I own a condo and my neighbor's garbage disposal broke, leaking from the bottom, and it was a good couple of weeks before they realized it. By that time, the shared wall between us had been soaked by waste water, the lower cabinets were molding, and we were in dire need of some repairs. Our neighbors, being renters, put us in touch with the owner, who basically tried to pawn off responsibility on everyone else, out of fear of telling his insurance holder that the hadn't done any maintenance work since he bought the place. It was that attitude that turned me towards our HOA and Coastal Plumbing. The latter is always at our complex, fixing some problem or another and the HOA brought them in to verify that the issue was between owners and not caused by any faulty pipes or leaking within the walls. I got a prompt call back from, a claim that they had done a thorough inspection next door, and they concluded that there was no leak within the shared wall and that all damage had been caused by waste water from the neighbor's garbage disposal. They were quick to get back to me, their explanation fit the narrative I had put forth, it was reassuring and professional. After that, I called a cleanup service and they got to work. With a three year old to think about and essentially sewage seeping through the wall, we grabbed a hotel for the week, giving the crew time to do their thing. But, after a few days of demolition, I got the call that nothing was drying like it should, there was a leak somewhere. Giving Coastal Plumbing another call, they came in on the weekend during overtime hours and let everyone know that there was, in fact, a leak within the wall. So, we have a failure to diagnose the original problem, but they were taking responsibility and told the HOA that it was no longer an issue between neighbors. Unfortunately, they also stated that they wouldn't go in and fix the leak until the mold was completely taken care of. The company doing cleanup, hearing this, went into overdrive to get the wall completely removed, all of the mold sanitized, and the water completely dried up. This was done over three days, and they had an inspection service come and certify that the mold was gone and it was safe for the plumbers to come back. They didn't ... for five days. Even though they knew of our issue and were waiting for the cleanup to be completed, even though they knew we were spending about $200 a night on hotels waiting for the repairs to be completed, even though they had come out before on a weekend, they didn't come back until the next Tuesday. Asking on the phone about the timetable, the cleanup crew confirmed that they left a message with the plumber, and the plumber did get back to me on Saturday, but the person that called stated they had no clue what was going on because they didn't have their notes. Then, two days with nothing, which basically meant that whoever called didn't care enough actually try and get those 'notes' and help or alleviate any of my concerns (more important to go back to their weekend because they have a comfortable home to sleep in, I guess). And finally, when they did get around to helping us, it took them about 15-20 minutes to finish. Why someone couldn't have done this on Thursday or Friday, saving time and money, I have no clue. Hell, I would have happily paid some of that money I had to give to a hotel to the plumbers just to come out ... but, no one cared. And to top it off, my wife caught the plumber as they were about to leave, finishing up with the paperwork, and she said the guy seemed put off having to answer her questions. When asking if they had contacted anyone now that the repair was finished, all she got was, "that's not my problem / job!" I wanted to ask the guy, if they were in the same position, forced out of their house, stuck in a cramped hotel room, eating out every night on a budget, desperately trying to get home, if they had wished someone would actually give a shit and help or if they wanted someone to be an asshole like they had been instead. To sum up this rambling rant, Coastal Plumbing failed to originally identify a problem they were brought in to locate, they wasted my time and money by not finding the leak earlier as well as not coming in to actually repair the leak in good/reasonable time, and the people don't feel like they care about a problem that they are being paid to, at the very least, pretend to care about. To cap it all off, both the cleanup crew and the guys replacing the drywall thought that the plumbing job was cheap and a simple patch as opposed to properly replacing the whole pipe. I have no knowledge of plumbing of my own, but other experts were shocked by both the effort and the extended length of time they took. Whether this is all on them or if the HOA was slowing things down is up for debate. All I know is that this has been a miserable three weeks and Coastal Plumbing was a massive part of that. read more

Back in January, I started smelling propane and wondered if I had a leak. I called Coastal Plumbing and spoke with David Berber and explained the problem. He was able to come out the next day to assess the situation. I had a leak at the propane tank and in the line. He fully explained what was needed to be done to repair and was able to start the work immediately. I appreciated his promptness since the propane is mainly used for heat. Daniel also assisted with the repairs. David and Daniel worked with the propane company to have repairs completed in time for the new propane tank to be placed. Propane Line Fixed, and great, competent speedy Service by Tyler! When I accidentally severed our propane line (I'd first turned off the tank to work in the area thankfully), we needed a repair ASAP - hopefully within 24 hours and to get it all right. Looked around my Encinitas hometown region and only saw a few places in my vicinity that could do such: repair yellow PVC plastic (PE) propane line such as with stab connector or fusion of line: I called Coastal Plumbing (or Hanna Plumbing seemed a good bet too) ... Shortly after calling Coastal a fellow came out to assess situation; he was here about briefly and saw what needed to be done. He arranged someone to come out right away with needed specialty parts; this would next be Tyler (if i recall his name correctly) who came with an 'apprentice' learning the job (which is a very good, ancient tradition that makes sense). That Apprentice also assisted Tyler which helped work to go smoothly (while Tyler oversaw all). To cut to the quick, Tyler replaced our broken line - and did a great job. What had been a vexing broken pipe problem was solved! He did it with aplomb, then checked all the Appliances in our home and all worked... Remarkably as well fiscally, Tyler did Not Charge me anything at all for the first individual who had come out to assess the situation: that was free. Tyler also did some extra work as well after the fix which was not Billed/ charged to me ' to go the extra mile' ... in sum he did great work, he was professional, thorough, very quick in responding and on-time, and had a great 'bedside manner' (like a good Doctor) so to speak at a stressful time when I was vexed by lack of propane gas to our home. My HOA called this company to come out after the plumber that my home warranty company thought the leak in my neighbor's garage was coming from a common pipe instead of one of my pipes from my condo above. The plumber they sent out did such a hack job on the drywall to try to find the source of the leak. The leak came from the corner of the garage and there are only pipes along the edges of the garage... But the plumber put a 7ft by 5ft hole in the ceiling from the edge all the way to middle of the garage! Plus 3 other smaller holes! I am fine with the 3 smaller holes... But a 7x5 foot hole to find a leak? Really? My estimates to fix the drywall are $1200 and $1500 to find a leak! Plus the $165 for the hour and a half of his time to add insult to injury! read more

My home warranty company referred Coastal Plumbing to us because our toilet wasn't flushing, the guy (not sure of his name) went into my garage to check the back flow. Then he couldn't get the lid off by unscrewing it so he broke it off, he snakes and "out came 10" of shit!" After his 4th visit he came back with his "boss" to assess the back flow cap that he broke. According to the 2 of them they couldn't find a cap to fit the back flow so they would have to rip the whole garage apart to replace the whole system. After going back and forth with the company and the guy, he came back one more time with papers in his hand and tried to get me to sign a release form so I "wouldn't sue his company." I said no I'm not going to sign the paper, he then tried to have me sign another paper stating that he did not brake the lid off of the back flow and the flap. I told him no and he said "oh you're trying to call me a liar?" I said take the papers and leave, I never heard back from the company. This same guy scratched the inside of my new toilet bowl, and the back flow hasn't been fixed. Even after the "boss" coming out to take a look at the issue I never heard back from him either. So basically we've been left hanging without a cover over the back flow, a scratched toilet and the same issue we had before the company came out. What kind of business sends an employee out to have the customer sign a "release so you don't sue my company" and a paper stating that " the company didn't break the cover? It's been over a month and I haven't heard anything from them since he tried to get me to sign the paperwork. I don't like giving bad reviews because I know that they can do damage to the business but I do want others to know how I was treated and how I have an unfinished job that's gone on for over a month and nothing from the company. He determined that the system electronics was shorted and not working correctly as well as a problem with the ice maker/water dispenser. I had a nasty situation with sewage erupting out of our condo's powder room toilet. I had to ask the unit above not to flush until I got help, because the effluent was coming right up through our toilet. Our condo association manager uses Coastal Plumbing and had them call me, which they did almost immediately. The dispatcher assured me the guys would be there within the hour and they were, so major points for arriving on time. They walked in, smiling, clean, polite.... asked me if I wanted them to wear covers on their shoes to protect the floor, even. I live in a tri-level townhouse in La Costa. My unit was leaking on the back wall of my garage so I contacted Coastal Pluming per a recommendation by my HOA manager. David came out and gave me a few options to find the leak and recommended that his supervisor Kip come out just to make sure he was doing all the right things. The next day both David and Kip showed up as scheduled and after about a 1/2 hour they decided cutting a couple of holes in the ceiling and wall in the garage was the best way to proceed. After Kip left David cut 3 holes and found the drain pipe that had a major break, after less than 3 hours after they arrived my problem was fixed and I couldn't be happier. These units have a history of pipe leaks and have a history of being expensive $1,000 to $2,000 thousand dollar. My total cost was $500 dollars. While attempting to change a cartridge in a shower faucet I broke the cartridge leaving part of the cartridge in the valve assembly. I called Coastal Plumbing and had a plumber at my home in about an hour. It wasn't easy, but the remains of the cartridge was removed, and the new one was installed. Coastal Plumbing exceeded my expectations, and took care of a problem that required the water being turned in my whole house. read more

Inflated billing. I've used Coastal Plumbing several times over the years, and have referred them as well. Recently I called them to address a leak from an unknown source near my washer. (My home is now a rental.) Coastal Plumbing was there quickly, gave a verbal estimate of $200-$300 to my renter, which I authorized. The final bill was almost $500. I expressed my concern over the cost and requested a detailed invoice from their office, which initiated an immediate goodwill $25 reduction. I got the detailed invoice, which showed 4 hours of labor. Per my calculations, the plumber was there 2.5 hours, which included the plumber's parts run to Home Depot. I called one of Coastal's managers and explained my issue, even stating I had a completion of work voicemail from his plumber time stamped 2:15...yet the invoice showed a 3:30 completion time. The manager gave me a $100 credit, but didn't seemed concerned about the false billing/ billing error. He was definitely more interested in my going away. I won't be using Coastal again. It's a shame...they've been in the up-and-up before this. read more

Coastal plumbing had done work here for our HOA concerning slab leaks in concrete which they simply replaced in they broke again due to the land movement that affects the area. An experienced plumber would suggest not below ground cold water feed but above ground to prevent the same problem happening again but they didn't. I called my normal plumber and they were unavailable to come out for an emergency leak in my shower in which the cartridge needed to be changed out so I called Coastal Plumbing... I should have waited for my plumber. They sent out Joesph and he was able to replace one cartridge without a problem in 10 minutes. The second cartridge was a little more difficult and after 45 minutes of messing with it, I told him to just replace the valve. He continued trying to get the old cartridge out for another 4 hours before he met with success, even after I told him to just replace the entire valve because it would be cheaper for me. When he was done, he said he would take an hour off my bill. He then volunteered that he couldn't fix the water pressure although he tried... There was nothing wrong with the water pressure. I'm not sure if I was being scammed or if the plumber they sent was really that incompetent... either way, I will not be calling or recommending Coastal Plumbing to anyone after this experience. read more

This is one of the worst experiences I've had with a plumber. They charged me twice for something that didn't solve the problem at all and then when I needed to do it again and asked for them to do it under warranty, they apparently "lost" the record for the last service. They lack expertise and seem to just charge arbitrarily for products and services that aren't needed. Furthermore they never call you back and don't work after hours or on weekends. I used Coastal plumbing 8 years ago for a new water heater . So when my heater broke on Saturday I called them again . Michelle was great she told me that the distribution center was closed but she would have someone come out Monday morning to replace it . Mark came out on Monday and he was terrific. He replaced the water heater than checker the water pressure and discovered that it was way to high and needed a new regulator. He showed my husband how to check it now and than . He was also nice enough to check our two sink stoppers that weren't working .
