Went in on 1/12 - had to have new battery - was offered a oil/filter change and I said go for it. 5 days in - it's leaking badly - and is now in my shop where I always go (they are closed Monday) - not good - see pics, new oil! Part 2 - it was a valve/gasket- mechanic said it was hard to miss as it's right on top. He is going to do some other things regarding... learned my lesson. read more

absolutely horrible. they diagnosed problem, fixed it but put wrong coils on for that particular truck, therefore had to take back. home for 3 hours, then truck making loud noises (fan was hitting medal, causing sparks). drove down street to take back and "check gauges" light appears and can barely turn the car. arrived at car station and spoke with manager - seemed like he didnt care, kept saying it was a coincidence (he mentioned the water pump) was busted and needed a new one. we went back and forth - i said i will never go back here - they seem dishonest-mentioned a negative review-no comment. he walked away and came back and said you need a water pump and we can fix but if something else goes wrong-we would blame them! he asked if i could call my husband so he can talk to him?? why - they have been dealing with me and he is unavailable anyways. ******************take car to norms for any repair********** read more

Do not take your car there! They are crooks! Our car had over-heated and the car was towed Coastline auto. They replace all the hoses and radiator, air filter, cabinet filter, oil change...etc. total repair cost $2200. We took it home and decided to check the air&cabinet filters. To our surprise the original filters were still in place- see attached filters. 2 days later we smell oil coming from the vents and decided to take a to the dealership. The dealership found the cylinder head warping and cracking. The radiator and all hoses, filters ....etc. The final bill $5500. We plan on pursuing legal action. read more

I discovered at 3:30 in the afternoon that I had a nail in my tire and it was nearly flat. I called Coastline and asked if they could see me/fix this that afternoon. They were great! Told me to bring it in and they would take care of it. I worked with Mike and he was friendly, professional and very nice, in spite of being very busy. They had my tire fixed/patched and I was back on my way in about 30 minutes. Price was GREAT (i.e. free) too!! I'll definitely be taking my car back there for future routine services. read more

It appears that this "car care" facility has gone the way of the stereotypical "rip-you-off" mechanics that we are all warned about. Back in the day when Brent Gustin managed this store, I trusted Coastline with all my vehicles and referred this shop to all my friends. I have been going to Coastline for better than 20 years. Now they treat me like a frail senior citizen with deep pockets to pay for unneeded service, not the Marine Corps-trained auto mechanic that I am. "Your tires are too old to be on the freeway," I was told today. "Look, here is the manufacture date, 1314, that's the 13th week of 2014. Tires should be replaced after five years." I purchased these tires from Coast line in 2017, by their records. That means the tires were already three years into their five year lifespan. If you visit Road & Track's webpage, https://www.roadandtrack.com/car-culture/buying-maintenance/a25577/how-to-make-your-tires-last-10-years/ , the article here says 6-10 years is a more accurate number. "These were good tires. They were very popular in the day." These are Goodyear Assurance tires. Visiting Goodyear's webpage, https://www.goodyear.com/en_US/support/tire-warranty/tread-life.html , this model tire is still being manufactured and sold and have a range of 60-85,000 miles (depending on the specific model). I have a total of 94k miles on my car. I probably had 50k on the original tires from Toyota when I bought the replacements. And this webpage even states, "In addition to the provisions of the limited warranty for covered warranty conditions, any new Goodyear replacement tire listed below is warranted against treadwear wear-out based on the following table for up to six (6) years or the mileage indicated, whichever occurs first..." Six years by the manufacturer's standards. "You see this crack between the tire and the tread? That's where air can leak out of your tire. Very unsafe." Really?!?!?!? These aren't retreads. I'm surprised they didn't push for a nitrogen fill. But I think my disbelief in their BS was showing on my face. When I brought up the fact that they sold me "old tires" with 2 years left on them, Martin Herrera, by "operator" said, "You didn't buy these tires from me. Who did you buy them from?" I pointed to the shop and told him I bought them from this store." Martin claimed, "I look at all the tires that come into our shop and if they are old, I send them back. Who sold you these tires?" Do you remember the last time you bought a pair of shoes? What was the name of the faceless clerk that sold them to you? Was it six years ago? And you can't remember the clerk's name? Shame on you for not filing away this tidbit of useless information. Maybe that's a bit extreme. How about when you last filled a prescription at your pharmacy. What was the name of the cashier that rang you up? No wait, not the last time you got your refill, instead the time six years ago that you visited this drug store. Shame on you for not wasting gray matter on this bit of trivia. And Isn't it interesting that Coastline is getting 1-star reviews for the last 18 months. I had been bringing my SUV for several years for oil changes and other things. When I took my car home the light came on in my SUV. I had my uncle look at it. He checked the whole engine compartment & told me the oil had indeed not been changed. I was very upset. This happened a while back but now filing some papers I decided to upload this review because I don't want someone's engine to get damaged. The staff has always been great, but please staff you need to check your shopworkers because someone is braking the law. I have been coming here since I was 16 years old. My father has been coming to Coastline since they were located near Ralph's. So my family has been coming to Coastline for over a decade. I was recently there, with my fiancés car. She was having issues with the engine and needed the car fixed in order to get it smogged. I explained the situation: She has been to multiple places which have said the same thing, a broken gas cap. Yet none of these places had told her that she can only get it replaced at a dealership. So I said I would take it in for her. I take it to Coastline like I would have with my car. And they said it was multiple solenoid valves that were stuck open. They printed paperwork for me explaining what the codes were and what needed to be done. No price on anything, just the information. He then tells me it would be about $1,500 for parts and labor using the sheet that was given to me. I said no problem, let me talk with my fiancé. We end up taking the car to a different place, where they smoke test it for half the price, and figured out the diagnostic and fixed the issue for $250. I saved over $1,000 getting the correct second opinion. I'll never be back. read more

No problem with purchasing tires. They are always very busy so be prepared to leave your car. BUT, in my many interactions with them over several years, they are very aggressive about recommending other work. Much not needed as confirmed by another trusted shop. This happened to me twice in the last 8 months. Get a second opinion before allowing them to do ANY mechanical work. This past week they recommended over $1,100.00 in repairs which was not needed as confirmed by another mechanic. They get you in for the low cost oil change, probably a loss leader, or tires, so they can upsell you on questionable mechanical repairs. Being kind on the questionable. read more

I tried to give them my business twice... I have a lug nut that was stripped which requires a wheel stud replacement. 1st time I called... the guy was like you need to have that towed here before I can even tell you how much. I told him that it's drivable and that I'll bring it by but he kept pushing for a tow so I was just like whatever I'll look elsewhere. Today I called and talked to someone else that started to help me out. They explained it could be "this much" or "this much" depending on how much labor is involved in taking off the wheel. I asked if they had time to do it today since I live around the corner I'm flexible. He said yea drop it off and I can do it by end of day. I asked too, will it speed it up if i pick up the parts from the dealership? (stud/lug nut) He was like thats fine, he'll just charge for labor. So i down the street and picked up the $5 worth of parts from and brought it there. At drop off I'm talking to the front counter guy whos asking around to figure out who had talked to me earlier. No one said they did. Takes my info anyway and starts to help me up until I said I had the parts already. "We don't install other peoples parts". I'm like...It's a $5 OE part, what else would you use? "We can't touch other peoples parts? I'm just so confused, Do you make bolts and lug nuts there? At this point, I tried. I had no appointment, but never the less the owner,Ben Brooks, was accommodating and SO friendly. When I went to pick up my car, he told me there would be no charge because the tire was just fine. I was so darn appreciative and insisted on paying him for his time, he refused with a smile and sent me on my way. I should have read the reviews before going here. The low cost oil change sign brought me here. Of course, that's just a gimmick. Oil change was $86 and not $24.99. What got me was they said I needed a new air filter and cabin filter. At other shops, those run a combined total of $40. They wanted $100. Keep in mind they were already installed. When I balked at the price, the guy at the counter abruptly took the charge off and said "we're not here to rob you". I get the feeling this happens a lot here. So, I paid, and was told to car would be pulled up. I walked outside and they were taking the new filters out and putting the old ones back in. Fine! Before I walked out the rude counter guy said "you can always take your car somewhere else"...damn right I will. First and last time at this place. read more

I went for routine car service and an oil change. While I was in the waiting room, one of the representatives advised me I needed a "brake job". I asked regarding what was needed for such a brake job and was told I needed brakes AND rotors. Since it would be the first time I needed brakes on a relatively new car, I asked why? Took my car here mistaking this location for the one in Huntington Beach. Though I did not have an appointment, they allowed me to leave the car over the weekend for repairs. I provided them with all items that were needing fixing in store and still called to request they replace the light bulbs in the break lights that were out. I was assured and provided documentation that a 12 Point Inspection took place. However, my break light is still out and given I don't drive with people known behind me, I was not aware this was not replaced until someone was kind enough to pull up to me to notify me. Being dismissed to "reassure" me something is done and providing false documentation stating something was done when it wasn't, I won't be bringing my car back. Make sure to get on their mailing list, so you can receive their postcard that has discounts on them. Although some car repairs or services can expectedly be costly, we have found them to be honest. Great service. Came here couple of times in the last year to get oil changes after purchasing a punchcard online. Ben has been taking care of my car ever since, he is nice, friendly and honest. He had brought to my attention several maintenance items and even after I told him I'm going to delay these maintenance for a later time he was still nice to me. I normally call in a Vance to get an appointment and the guys here are efficient and on time. It normally takes about an hour to do my oriole change and they're very good at being able to clear the maintenance light for me. The waiting room is spacious has a TV and a refrigerator with cold water is always helpful. The bathrooms are clean. read more

So I bought my tires from coastline five years ago. I got the not-so-cheap tires with many miles on the warranty, including road hazard. I still have 15,000 miles to go on the warranty. I had a nail in my tire; so I came to get it fixed and also to get the tires rotated. 1. they had no record of my tire transaction even though I had my receipt. 2. worker wanted me to leave the car until the next day because they were too busy. (I got there at 2:15) 3. he would not tell me whether or not he would rotate my tires for free, since they couldn't find the transaction in the computer, even though I had records, including from my credit card company. "I'm not saying I won't, and I'm not saying I will." REALLY? 4. He told me five years is too long to keep tires anyway and I should just buy new ones. (I researched this after I got home, and six years seems to be the consensus) why would I buy new tires from you if I can't even get a flat fixed or tires rotated without being without a car for a day? obviously they're so busy they don't need my repeat business. read more

I've been here a couple years ago for a patched tire which they did for free, they mentioned if I wanted to leave a tip it's appreciated but not required so I decided to come back for service. I brought my car here this morning and got it back same day , my steering wheel was shaking and I knew I had some alignment issues and prob needed new tires (haven't got my car serviced in a while or replaced tires) so I knew going into it I would have to spend quite a bit but ALOT less than I expected. Mike helped me he was super nice and didn't make me feel like I was being pressured or taken advantage of which is rare since I'm a women. A couple other places I called seemed like they tried to upsell or list a bunch of things that could be wrong. When I called here they pretty much said it sounds like a tire issue but could be more they won't know until they look. Once I was there I mentioned I hadn't got an oil change in a while and asked if that might be part of the problem he said I would know if it was cause my sensor would be on and if I want to they can do it or if I just wanna focus on what's wrong we can do that just let him know. In the end it was my 2 front tires needed replacing along with brake pads. Mike let me know my options between name brand and off brand tires and the differences in price. Everyone I spoke to was super nice I don't remember his name but he had a southern accent and I had spoken to him over the phone and my mom talked to him for a bit in person when picking up my car. My truck service engine light came on. Brought here because I usually have oil changed here. Autozone code reader said the engine is too lean. They said they will smoke test for vacuum leak. Kept the truck for 2 days and then said it needed $1600 in repairs. After getting it back and driving for awhile the service engine light comes on again. Autozone reader now says engine is too rich. Take it back and now they want $2500 to repair. Internet search of code says check and replace Mass Flow Sensor. Check it and it is not working. Replaced the MFS sensor myself for $90 in parts and 10 minutes time. Truck now works fine. No service light. This place either has incompetent mechanics or is a ripoff. Stay away. read more

I feel taken advantage of, sadly. I came in for a weird noise and was told I needed new calipers and some other things, for a total of around $800. I decided to get a second opinion from a different mechanic, and he tole me all I needed was new brake pads for around $145. That's quite a disparity. Coastline has always been very nice and has done great work for me in the past, but now I'm questioning if all that work they convinced me I needed was actually necessary. Poeple were nice and i really liked them UNTIL last time. I brought my car in for engine light and 2 hrs later they called me and said sth needs to be replace for 630$. Since I was leaveing to SD that day, I left without getting it done and still paid my diagnostic fee over 100$. When I got to SD afternoon and brough my car to another mechanic to fix(since coastline auto said it was soooo important), it turned out to be something else minor with only 120$to fix. Again I know ppl there are nice and look professional but they are not honest in my opinion unless you know exactly what it wrong with your car. I've taken my car here three times now and today was the last. This place had a good rating on yelp, looked like they were busy and the location was convenient. Today I walked away feeling completely ripped off and taken advantage of. First time I took my car in, they ran the diagnostic and convinced me to pay for a ton of extra work that was way overpriced and probably unnecessary. The second time I brought my car in because it had been trouble starting up for a while and I wanted it to be checked out. I left it there for the entire day on 3/22, and all they did was check the car's computer, which showed no logs of why the check engine light was coming on. This weekend my car died. Had to tow it there in the morning. They diagnosed that a starter was out, alternator was draining my battery based on their reading and a gasket (??!!). $1,000 later I have my car back. I feel all they do is blow smoke in their customer's face, overcharge and are incompetent. Why couldn't they figure out what was wrong with my car a month ago? Never going back there again, I'll need to sell one of my kidneys to pay for car repair at this awful place! read more

A few years back my car was nearing the mileage where a timing belt change is necessary. I called a shop our family used to go to and they were incredibly rude and not very informative. I decided to call coastline because it was nearby. The gentleman who answered the phone was helpful, sweet, and went above and beyond. He asked my vin and looked up what model I had to see if I had a timing belt or a chain (no belt necessary). I brought my car in and they got it done very quickly. The prices are reasonable. The staff is very sweet. I've always been very appreciative of their work. The thing that led me to come on Yelp to leave a five star review is watching one of their employees bring water to the waste management men who came to take their garbage. Good people. Great work.
