I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt and go for 4 stars because one time when I got the burrito grande my stomach was definitely aching after I ate. I feel like El Jardin's burritos are a little fresher, maybe? I never feel too hot after eating the burritos there (I've had them 3 different times)...I really don't get them any more. The last time I went my husband and I sprung for their specials for the day...I think it was cilantro lime seafood tacos and some zesty chicken tacos...we ordered both of them and shared. Woah, they were absolutely delcious. We were so impressed! And I felt absolutely fine after eating that time. We love their salsa too! Great service, and good food for the money. Ate here when visiting Sonora last week. Delicious Mexican food in a strip mail location and the service was also excellent. We'd eaten here last year during a visit to Sonora and enjoyed it so much that we went back this year when in the area. We like that they don't use lard but still have very flavorful Mexican food. Young staff who all seem to be doing a great job (we're a couple in our 70's). read more

The food is always good. You can't beat the price! The chip and salsa are made fresh and I am a big fan of the green sauce. I will never eat here again. I ordered carnitas and the kid brought me chili colarado then tried to tell me it was carnitas, so I ordered chili verde and it was straight out of the can green sauce and some anemic white hunks of pork. Also FYI they only have wine margaritas, that should have been my first clue that it would suck! read more

I think the food here is very good, but if they are fairly busy, it is very noisy. It has been so noisy, it is almost impossible to have a conservation without shouting. Have found ourselves not going there very often because. of the noise. A Sonora local. read more

We stopped here in Oakdale on our way to Yosemite and got food that was so good that we stopped again a week later on our way out. The waitress remembered not only my face but what I had ordered the week before, all delivered with a radiant smile. My family enjoyed the first rate food (ambrosia to former Californians who can't get decent Mexican food where they live now) and great service. My husband's burrito was huge and apparently delicious, too, because it disappeared pretty fast. read more

We went last night for a birthday dinner and I was unimpressed. The salsa we were given was essentially tomato juice with an occasional fleck of cilantro. I also noticed that on one bowl you could see where it had previously been filled (leftovers?). Never seen salsa like that before. The water glass I received was dirty on the bottom and our waitress never offered to refill during the time we were there. The menu was also dirty with smears of food inside. All that aside, the basa a la plancha I ordered was fine, but very salty and had too much cheese. I've had this complaint in the past too. Tone it down on the garlic salt! read more

had lunch there with my wife and daughter, WOW the food was so good my daughter and I had the grilled chicken flour tacos and all I can say is I WANT MORE, they were so good the veggies were so fresh and the servers were right on top of a refill if we needed it my wife had the grilled chicken salad and loves it. we highly recommend eating here if yer hungry for some Mexican food read more

We've been here a couple of times but stopped going because everything was horrible. From the service to the food. We went again to give it another try but nothing had changed. We waited 25 minutes for drinks and an hour for our food. Our waitress proceeded to tell us after an hour that they had ran out of rice. I ordered the carnitas entrée. The meat was so dry and I told the waitress. She asked if I wanted more sauce, but I told her it wasn't the sauce, the meat was just over cooked. She didn't take it back or offer anything else. I didn't eat it and she asked if I wanted a box but I wasn't about to take the dry food home. Service was horrible. Did not come back to refill drinks for a while..plus the chips had a burnt taste to them and salsa was watery. Will not be going back. I would not recommend this place... read more

Went here last night for dinner as it is my 8 year olds favorite restaurant. Needless to say we will never return and will be sure to let everyone else know as well. We sat there for over an hour before we even got a chance to order water and have our orders taken. After another hour I had to ask our waitress when the rest of our food might be ready because my 6 year old was starving and she had brought one item to the table and then nothing else for over 15 minutes. When I asked her I got a snotty response and wouldn't look up from her cell phone just dismissed me with a hand gesture. Needless to say 2 1/2 hours after arriving we finally had all our food (2 dinners and 2 sides) but it was all ice cold! The waitress continued to give us dirty looks and attitude and then over charged us on our tag by $20.00 exactly! When I brought it to her attention she threw a pen across the counter and said "whatever just fix it" to the girl who was helping me. Talk about a horrible experience!!!!!!!!! Sadly we were not the only ones upset by our service that night and it's not like it was busy she had us and one other table that after almost an hour got up and walked out. read more

Cocina Michoacana - Mexican Near Me - Sonora, California

I used to love Michoacana... It was my favorite restaurant before it burnt down. After the new location resurrected I was happy for a bit, but then they started changing. The portions got smaller, the service became more spotty. Sometimes someone greets us as the front, sometimes someone just yells for us to sit "anywhere but the middle!", yes, that happened. This last time, I ordered to-go. When I picked up my order of 4 two item combo meals, I looked in the bag and saw only one 2-ounce salsa container and one bag of chips. I asked for more, as clearly there were 4 people eating this. They told me they now only include one salsa and one chip for all to-go orders, everything else is an additional charge. Now, if 4 of us ate there, we would clearly eat more than 1 tiny salsa and 8 chips, yet they penalize us for ordering to-go, which really should save them on labor costs.... Sure Cocina, I would love to pay $.50 per 8 chips on top of the $60 we already pay for the meals... I will never ever order out, or honestly in, from them again. read more

Used to be one of my favorite places to eat, not anymore. The dinner wait staff is terrible! Our last experience: Ordered side of Guac. they brought out a spoon full in a little cup you put a side of garlic or maybe jalapenos in. I mentioned how they didn't give us the correct amount, waitress agreed it was the wrong size and brought one more. Two people came in after us, and ordered after us. They got their food, ate, and got their bills before we even got our dinner. Waitress forgot about us I guess. Weren't given silverware, asked for it and some snotty waitress said yes and never brought it to us. I had to serve it to us. Waitress never once came back to ask how meal was, or if we needed anything. We had to track her down for our check so we could pay and leave. Food quality has got down, prices have gone up, and wait staff is a joke. Owners must not be spending time in their own establishment. Sad to say this restaurant used to be so good. Save your money and go to a taco wagon. read more

I went here two nights ago on the recommendation of a friend. The food was very good. But in the middle of our meal a fight erupted, one guy wailing on the other, blood going everywhere. We were the only patrons in there to see this. Right as they "finished" cleaning up the blood a couple came in and was seated. I'm not sure the place was thourouhly sanitized. The waitress gave a a kind wow that was wired not even an apology. The owner came and gave us our bill as 2 cop cars, an ambulance, and fire truck arrived. One of the paramedics was given a free order of foods he waitress as like " don't worry about it", but we weren't given even a discount for witnessing " dinner theatre" like I'd never seen before. Practically got blood all over us and not even a a lousy is count. I won't be back to this restaurant. read more

I must confess, I did not eat here. You know when you walk into a place and something tells you "You're wasting your money here"? That was this restaurant. My partner and I walked in around lunch time and were told to sit where we wanted. We were next to the counter and waited seven minutes for water and a waiter. That's fine, they were busy. When the waitress arrived to ask what we wanted to drink, I asked a question about an item on the menu. She promptly answered my question, and as I said "okay, we're ready to..." She walked away. She walked away as I was talking. I wasn't inaudible, the visitors at the next table heard me. Okay, I wanted to give her the benefit the of the doubt anyways. The same waitress comes back in a few minutes with water and complimentary chips and to take our order. I say we'll have the chips a la mexicana, and when I am in the middle of asking for sour cream on the side, she walks away again. Before I finished speaking. Without another word. We didn't touch the chips or water, we got up and left. With service like that, who needs to go out to eat? read more

I've been here about 10 times every time the food and service were great. Grilled fish tacos are my favorite. The breakfast is good too.

We were visiting in the area and had been on the road for awhile. A nice margarita and mexican food sounded like a way to finish the day. Downtown was crazy busy, so we decided on this restaurant. After going inside we found out they only serve beer and wine. Not wanting to fight crowds downtown, we decided to stay. The huge banner outside said "Fine Mexican Food"....remember this. The first red flag was the "salsa." Literally canned tomato sauce with a few cilantro leaves in it. Not kidding. Canned tomato sauce. I didn't heed the red flag and just order an appetizer. No, I decided to order the combo plate of chili relleno and pork tamale. Red sauce on the relleno and green on the tamal. My spouse ordered the tamale entree. I'm pretty generous with my reviews on restaurants. I worked restaurants for a long time and it is hard work. And I want to stress that the waitresses were super friendly accommodating. However, this is possibly the worst Mexican food I have ever put in my mouth. Tamales were freezer burnt possibly, dry, strange after taste in the pork and crumbly old tasting masa. The green sauce was (surprise!) straight out of a can and my chili relleno was flat, old tasting with that same red tomato sauce that was served with the chips earlier. The rice was over cooked and old. Since my spouse had ordered the tamale plate, she had unfortunately the same slop. There is no other word that I can use but lazy, tasteless slop for this $30 meal we were served. The cook should be fired and the owner should get out of the restaurant business for serving up that mess and then hanging a huge banner stating "Fine Mexican Food" out front. This is our FAVORITE mexican restaurant in Tuolumne County...I'm repetitive with my food...once I find something I love...I order it over and over and over again...I must say, my #6, Taqueria style with steak ALWAYS makes me happy and fully satisfied! The staff is friendly, love the old western atmosphere and decor. And I LOVE LOVE LOVE the consistency...no matter what day or time I come and order..it's always the same :) can't beat that! OMG! The abosolute worse mexican food I've ever tasted in my life. And NO margarita's here folks! but there is beer. I don't know where these people have been with the good reviews, probably never out of the mostly white area. (and I'm white) but even I can admit I shouldn't be cooking mexican food. And I can tell you that I can cook it better than what I ate. (or didn't eat, because I left all but two bites on my plate) And neither should these people! Biggest waste of $30 I've spent in a long time. Everything tasted like it was out of a can. I had the tamales dinner with rice and beans. My tamales tasted like they were freezer burnt! The salsa tasted like ketchup. These peps should not be doing mexican food! The sign even says "fine mexican food" ... what a joke! Felt sorry for the young "white" girls taking care of us. My suggestion: come down around Bakersfield and taste ya some good mexican food. We've been to a lot of Mexican resturants and I have to say this one needs to go away! read more

I'd give 5 stars for service! Wish I could give 5 stars for the food. My niece and I both ordered the Baja style fish tacos. They looked amazing when they arrived, unfortunately the fish was slimy and seemed slightly undercooked. Showed the waitress and she was very nice and helpful. I just said I would eat my rice and beans and take the tacos home and microwave. But did ask that they make new tacos for my niece. This time she ordered the taqueria style. The fish still came back the same way. She just decided to push through and eat one of them. Not sure if it's the kind of fish they use or if I'm just really picky, but I can't recommend the fish tacos. I brought home my fish taco and microwaved and the fish is still slimy feel. Decided to just throw it out. The rice and beans were good. Chips and salsa very tasty. The waitress did comp part of my meal and came back and asked if I was ok with that. I did feel it was fair. I would go back and try something else but will not order the fish tacos again. read more
